219: Dr. Lyndsey Hookway - What must I know about babies and sleep?

The Long Distance Love Bombs Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 9, 2024 62:22

Dr. Lyndsey Hookway is a pediatric nurse, researcher, author, lactation consultant, and advocate for gentle parenting practices. Lyndsey believes that sleep is an art and a science influenced by various factors such as relationships, stress, and social interaction. She challenges the cultural trend of actively managing sleep through non-responsive approaches like cry-it-out methods, emphasizing the importance of communication and responsiveness in parenting. The amount of sleep a newborn needs can vary greatly, from 8 to 18 hours a day, so it is important for parents to understand their baby's individual sleep needs and cues. Lyndsey encourages parents to focus on the present relationship with their child and make informed choices. Rather than analyzing all data that is common between two people groups (generally 90-95%), Relative Insight scrupulously digs into all that is different between the two groups (normally 5-10%). This approach enabled the one law enforcement department to spot those bad actors who were posing as teenage girls. Relative Insight then moved into the insights and market research world and is quickly becoming a force in its own right, helping insights teams understand different target audiences, knowing which ways to talk to them, and how one should even gather text for analytics in the first place, in order to get respondents to respond with meaning.

Today I speak to author of the new book “Still Awake – Responsive Sleep Tools for Toddlers to Tweens', international speaker on infant feeding, behaviour and sleep, paediatric nurse, and co -founder of the Holistic Sleep Coaching Program – Lyndsey Hookway. Sleep and specifically your child's sleep is one of the biggest fears of new parents along with how they will function as adults on less sleep. For parents in general whether their kids are getting enough sleep is one of their main concerns. For some parents just getting your kids to sleep at all is the biggest frustration So on todays conversation we tackle some of the fact and fiction around this subject head on In my conversation with Lyndsey we discuss: Why the over abundance of information around child development, psychology and attachment is causing a massive amount of overwhelm amongst parents The theory of supercharging your child's love tank by maximising short periods of time with them How the idea of 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. sleeping is unrealistic and setting parents up for failure The actual amount of wind down time that your kids need before bed (along with the when you should put in the fun time) The amount of external and internal factors which effect the family unit daily and how they impact everything, including everyone's sleep **To grab a FREE copy of my new e-book The Dad Blueprint https://www.thedadscircle.com/e-book (click here)** **To join my EXCLUSIVE Brotherhood for Dads - The Dads Circle https://www.thedadscircle.com/sales-page-21617942919924 (click here)** Get involved and find out more To get involved with the conversation on social media we are on https://www.facebook.com/guildofdads/?modal=admin_todo_tour (Facebook), https://www.instagram.com/guildofdads/ (Instagram) & https://twitter.com/guildofdads (Twitter) If you want to join the Guild of Dads you can do so via our https://www.facebook.com/pg/guildofdads/groups/ (Facebook Group) Episode show notes can be found on our https://guildofdads.com/ (website) If you like what we are doing, leave a rating and review https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/guild-of-dads-vision-action-meaning/id1489225209 (here)

That's when Coley, who is now 66, got a job at CleanCraft, a commercial cleaning company in Rochester. He had already interviewed for 10 or 15 other jobs before this one came through. "Being an ex-felon," he said, "other companies just looked over me, and it was tough." Ty Hookway, CleanCraft's founder and president, didn't know about his employee’s criminal history until one day, about six months after hiring him, he noticed an electronic monitoring device on Coley’s ankle. "And it turns out he had robbed a bank, believe it or not," Hookway recalled. "He had just gotten out of prison and I had no idea, and I was completely nervous and worried and Sanford said, 'Give me a chance, give me a chance.' " Hookway did give Coley that chance, and Coley earned his trust. "Twenty five years later, he's one of my best friends. He's one of the smartest guys I've ever met," said Hookway. "He

After fearing that property was a difficult venture, Abi attended the SA Masterclass and decided to invest in the Peak District for SA, mainly for the tourism industry, and for her own family to travel to. She now has 2 units, with another 5 in the pipeline, and was the first one in her family to do it. The main thing previously ‘ holding her back ‘ was that she thought property required a lot of money, and experience. She thought it was simply something that was out of her reach. Little did she know she was more than capable of achieving success in property. Abi follows the Rent to Rent strategy, meaning she controls the property, but doesn’t actually need to own any of the properties.   Gordie started the Touchstone Education Serviced Accommodation masterclass 18 months ago, with no previous experience and is now also involved with rent to rent. None of his family are involved in property, so again he was the first to make this jump. He didn’t have a lot of spare time, despite his well paid day job he decided 18 months ago that he wanted to get into SA. Although his day job was well paid, he was exchanging a heck of a lot of time for money. It took him 3 weeks to acquire 2 rent to rent units. He now stands at 28 units, with another 5 going live soon. They earn an average of £1000 a month… EACH. Charles Sanders Peirce was the founder of the philosophical tradition known as pragmatism. He is also the proponent of a distinctive variety of pragmatism that has at its core a logical rule that has come to be known as “the pragmatic maxim.” According to this maxim, the meaning of a concept or a proposition is ultimately to be defined in terms of the “sensible” and “practical” effects it would produce in the course of experimental action. That is, of course, a crude articulation. But, according to Peirce, the view of meaning that the maxim articulates has vast philosophical implications. Peirce’s pragmatism is at once anti-skeptical, fallibilist, verificationist, inferentialist, and realist. Indeed, that looks like a motley crowd of philosophical commitments. How might they be made to hang together? In his new book, The Pragmatic Maxim: Essays on Peirce and Pragmatism (Oxford University Press, 2012), Christopher Hookway explores the complexities of Peirce’s philosophy. With chapters devoted to topics ranging from Peirce’s fallibilism, his philosophy of language, his views on mathematics, his rejection of psychologism, and his theory of abduction, Hookway presents Peircean pragmatism as a formidable and strikingly contemporary philosophy. Hookway’s book will be of great interest to anyone interested in pragmatism and the history of 20th-century philosophy, but it also has much to offer to those working on current debates in fields like epistemology, philosophy of language, and logic.
