The Barca Breakdown discuss the HUGE game for the La Liga title, as we hope FC Barcelona and Leo Messi can stop Luis Suarez' return to the Camp Nou and defeat Diego Simeone's team after an early season loss. We predict whether we will see Sergi Roberto, Mingueza, Dest, or Dembele in the starting line up, as well as recap the first game from November. The team has dramatically transformed, though our recent form has left much to be desired. Though we do not control our own fate, with Real Madrid playing Sevilla the following day, this could be our last big game to prove that Koeman deserves to keep his job and make a final push for the title! We hope the team can avoid silly defensive mistakes and that Ter Stegen can rival the best goalkeeper in La Liga this season, Jan Oblak.   Twitter: https://twitter.com/BarcaBreakdown Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/barcabreakdown Listen to our podcast on Spotify or Apple/Itunes Podcast.

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Hot Takes include a discussion of how we'd rework the PFA Young Player of the Year, which has been broken for years; questions on whether Manchester United should replace David de Gea with Jan Oblak; and whether Leeds United and Aston Villa played out the most insane 5 minutes we'd ever seen in football this weekend. Bleacher Roulette takes on more big questions: which career we'd have rather had out of Sergio Aguero and Luis Suarez; which player we'd look for if we needed an alibi; and whose matchworn jersey we'd take if we could pick any ever; before Sam rounded things off by ranking the Game of Thrones factions on who would win a five-a-side tournament. What's going on there? Real Madrid and Atlético drew an entertaining derby at the Bernabéu, with Thibaut Courtois and Jan Oblak excelling. Elsewhere, Sevilla are up to 3rd after a 4th straight win in all competitions at Eibar, scoring 17 goals in the process, and Valencia got a victory at the 7th time of asking - at Real Sociedad. But at the bottom, it's tough for Leganés who conceded late to lose at Real Betis, whereas Rayo Vallecano and Huesca both had to come from behind to earn a vital point in their survival battle. Here's how you can check out the rest of our content on our other platforms:Twitter - https://www.twitter.com/LaLigaLowdownYouTube - https://www.youtube.com/c/LaLigaLowdownWebsite - https://www.laligalowdown.comEnjoy! In the latest episode of Poetry in Motion, host Neil Fitzmaurice is joined by Dan Kay and the returning Joe Rimmer.Karius, Ramos, mixed emotions and memories that will last a lifetime... it goes without saying that the Champions League final gets a big mention. But, just like the club proved itself with the signing of Fabinho 48 hours after the defeat to Real Madrid in Kiev, it is time to move on.And that means the lads spend a significant amount of another brilliant podcast debating who should be on Jurgen Klopp’s summer wishlist.Joe would happily drive to Madrid to pick up Jan Oblak and bring him back to Merseyside while Dan and Fitzy are taken by reports linking Liverpool to Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois. But it’s not just a new goalkeeper the lads would like Klopp to sign – they would also welcome a rising star from Germany, a young Jermaine Defoe, and a player in the ilk of Gary McAllister with open arms. The trio also reveal where they think the Reds have the edge over their rivals when it comes to transfers. The answer? You’ll have to listen to find out.Enjoy. For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy

Rob Walker (@rwalk03) is a staff writer at Into the Calderón and the guest on this edition of Colchonero Chat, where he kicks off a season-in-review by discussing how Atlético Madrid’s goalkeepers and defenders played during the 2017/18 season. Rob is flanked by Into the Calderón manager Jeremy Beren (@JBBeren) as the podders reflect on how Atlético finished as LaLiga’s best defense once again. They break down Jan Oblak’s emergence as arguably Europe’s best goalkeeper, how José Giménez and Lucas Hernández became the future of Atleti’s defense and what lies ahead for Diego Simeone’s veteran full backs. They ask whether any improvements are necessary to a back line that conceded just 22 goals in LaLiga. The guys also talk about human meme Theo Hernández, the Super Cup in Estonia against Real Madrid and Atlético Femenino gunning for a domestic double. Rob Walker (@rwalk03) is a staff writer at Into the Calderón and the guest on this edition of Colchonero Chat, where his vast knowledge of Emirates Stadium plays a part in analyzing Atlético Madrid’s 1-1 draw at that stadium on Thursday night. The Europa League semifinal first leg against Arsenal is discussed in full, as Rob and Into the Calderón site manager Jeremy Beren (@JBBeren) break down how 10-man Atlético managed to emerge from the embers with a precious away goal. The podders analyze how Atleti and Antoine Griezmann — who levelled the scores from a José Giménez long ball — used Arsenal’s dominance against them and overcame shocking refereeing decisions inside the opening minutes. Jeremy and Rob wonder if the mattress makers can get out on the front foot in next week’s second leg after displaying the battling underdog mentality of years past in England. The guys also find time to preview Sunday’s league fixture at streaky Alavés, who have secured safety and have little else to play for with four weeks left. Diego Simeone might rotate again with Diego Costa now fit (at least reasonably so) and itching to play. Colchonero Chat Amigos can listen to the bonus pod on Jan Oblak, Bernd Leno and more at patreon.com/colchonerochat.

David Cartlidge (@davidjaca) is a Spanish football journalist and scout. He is also the guest on this edition of Colchonero Chat, which revolves around Atlético Madrid’s 0-0 home draw with Real Betis on Sunday. David and Into the Calderón site manager Jeremy Beren (@JBBeren) dive into another tight result which could see Atlético’s four-point edge in second place trimmed to one point when Real Madrid make up their game in hand. The podders analyze Gabi’s decline and what Rodri’s arrival from Villarreal will bring in addition to Jan Oblak’s post-match remarks on his future, another right back conundrum, Ángel Correa’s trajectory and why Atleti continue to struggle against top-six sides. The guys then move on to Thursday’s Europa League semifinal first leg away at Arsenal. Atlético’s shaky away form of the past several weeks will be put to the test in London against a side with fresh motivations following the announcement of Arsène Wenger’s departure. Will Diego Simeone’s men qualify for a fourth European final in seven years? Rob Walker (@rwalk03) is a staff writer at Into the Calderón and the guest on this edition of Colchonero Chat. He joins Into the Calderón manager Jeremy Beren (@JBBeren) from snowy Ohio to react to and analyze Atlético Madrid’s 1-1 draw at Real Madrid on Sunday afternoon. Jan Oblak saved the day (pun very much intended) as Atlético were put under the cosh in this so-called “decaffeinated derby.” Diego Simeone’s men withstood the pressure, though, to secure a valuable and remain on course for a second-place finish. Jeremy and Rob break down Simeone’s aggressive XI and the controversial refereeing decisions that went against both sides. They discuss Atlético and Antoine Griezmann’s quick reaction to Cristiano Ronaldo’s opening goal after halftime and whether the draw was a fair result in the end. The podders also answer Colchonero Chat amigo questions and ask “just how important is a draw at the Bernabéu?” The guys then switch gears to preview Thursday night’s trip to Lisbon, where Atlético will take on Sporting Clube de Portugal (and quite possibly members of their first team) in the second leg of their Europa League quarterfinal. Jan Oblak could be Atlético Madrid’s human goalkeeper. He could also be an octopus. Either way, he made sure Atlético advanced to the Champions League quarterfinals in style. Rob Walker (@rwalk03) is a staff writer at Into the Calderón. He is the guest on this edition of Colchonero Chat, where he breaks down the goalless draw that sent Bayer Leverkusen packing and clinched a quarterfinal berth for Atlético. Jeremy and Rob discuss the results of Friday’s draw, which saw Atleti paired with Leicester City over the other Spanish giants, and how the principle of appropriate fear applies. Then, Jeremy and Rob move on to Sevilla, recently dispatched by Leicester in the Champions League and set to visit the Vicente Calderón for the final time on Sunday afternoon. The Andalusians are in a poor run of form and have injuries at the back, and the podders discuss whether this is an ideal time for Atleti to gain ground in the race for third place.
