Some people would balk at that because Attica really is a restaurant known for its cooking, but the service is what carries it. It's what the great memories are built on. It's the human interactions,” Ben Shewry on The Restaurant Guys Podcast 2024BioFrom a childhood in New Zealand with some early experience at The Roxborough, Shewry moved to Australia and then America to further cement his skill set in the fundamentals of exquisite cookery. He has a passion for respectfully utilizing the foods unique to Australia and New Zealand. Ever wonder how the unlikely pairing of a bright-eyed accounting director and a seasoned sustainability consultant could redefine mentorship? As Sara Presley and Alan Smith discuss their mentorship paring, they reveal the highs and lows of their unique journey, proving that sometimes, the most enriching growth comes from the most surprising connections. In a similar vein, Jon Ross, an SSR veteran with over four decades of insight, and Kevin Rumbolt, a hands-on project manager, explore their mentor-mentee dynamic. Their candid discussion peels back the layers on how SSR's mentorship program isn't just about climbing the corporate ladder; it's about leadership, expanding visions beyond the technical jargon, and leveraging innate talents like Kevin's knack for collaboration. Together, they demonstrate that mentorship is more than just guidance—it's a mutual exchange of knowledge that shapes the future leaders of engineering.

ALRIGHT, 'COMBIES!! Spoopy season is here again and we have a treat for y'all (as well as a trick, but that's for the crew and y'all get to enjoy it)! Of course, we couldn't allow Halloween to go by without doing a Horror-based episode (seriously, Christine wouldn't allow it) so we're going to dive into a fairly prolific Horror creator's work this time around. An extremely prominent figured in J-Horror manga, we're talking about Junji Ito this episode as a new anime anthology has been released collecting his stories and we've brought on Imaginos Workshop's other resident horror-phile, Jon Ross, to really get to the crust of just what it is about Junji Ito's work that fascinates and stimulates his audience so much that he managed to solidify himself as a fixture in J-Horror. So come on down, gang, and let's get spoopy up in here!
Betweent he two of them, it took 21 years to earn their Master Sommelier status; obviously, no easy task. Lest we forget, while studying for this accolade, one has to earn a living. THey met while working at the 2017 Best Restaurant in the World, 11 Madison and it was off to the races between them to carve out a niche in the wine world. Yes, having the moniker of a Master Sommelier opens doors in the wine and hospitality world, but it takes perserverance to see a need, develop a solution and execute the solution. In their case, bring the boutique expressive wines of Australia to the table of the American wione consumer. This task is not for the faint of heart. The miriad of laws in the US is enough to cause hours of head scratching let alone educating the consumer of the intricacies and geography of Australia. it is what we call in the industry a "hand sell." You can feel their passion for this project right here.
Today's SWAPA Number is 649,000. That's the number of new pilots that Boeing projects will be needed to staff the growing demand for airlines in the next two decades. With such a high demand and low supply of qualified aviators, business as usual from the past must change to meet this new reality. On today's episode, we will be talking with the Training Committee Chair, Captain Greg Bowen and Professional Standards chair, Captain Jon Ross, about the pilot shortage, how training must adapt to the new and diverse experience of our recruits, and what pilots can do to acclimate to the new environment we find ourselves in.If you have any feedback for us at all, please drop us a line at comm@swapa.orgFollow us online:Twitter - https://twitter.com/swapapilotsFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/swapa737

May 21, 2023 - 6pm. West Side Community GardenIt was a delightful evening in the West Side Community Garden in Manhattan. The Bar Crawl Radio audio wagon was set up on the grass in front of the stage in the garden – as neighbors secured a chair or wooden planter ledge to listen to the Lew Tabackin Jazz Trio. Tenor saxophone and flute musician -- Mr Tabackin has been playing these summer concerts for many years. Jon Ross -- founder and director of MicroAid International -- joined us for a pre-concert warm-up conversation. We had talked with Jon about his work in building single family houses in areas hit by disaster on BCR #36 and #111. This evening we caught up with Mr Ross recent work with MicroAid -- and then asked him what he would do if he saw a stranger being attacked on the street – or subway. Then -- listen to a sampling of the evening's music played by the Lew Tabackin Jazz Trio with Boris Kozlov on bass and Jason Tiemann on drums – including two flute pieces by Tabackin “Garden and Lifetime” – and – “Out of this World” – a piece he wrote named after the “B Flat” Tokyo bar where he performs called – “B Flat Where Its At” -- a Billy Strayhorn standard – “Day Dream” -- and finally a bunch of tunes by George Gershwin. The podcast ends with 10 minutes of a longer interview I had with Mr. Tabackin in his UWS apartment in 2018. For the full interview see the additional material following this program. BCR Co-Hosts Rebecca McKean and Alan Winson Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

It's the GOP that wants to defund the FBI, the Justice Department, the Internal Revenue Service and every other law enforcements agency that tackles white collar criminals like Donald Trump. Today's SWAPA Number is 76. That's the number of resolutions passed by your Board of Directors in 2021. Many of them are for internal business, such as Pilot committee nominations, and do not normally generate much discussion within the Pilot group. However, the final resolution passed at the December Board meeting surprised a few of our Pilots, because it tasked the Negotiating and EFA Committees with studying the feasibility of splitting from any other Southwest Airlines work group for hotels and transportation. So in an effort to discuss how that resolution even came to pass, we want to talk to the SWAPA team who help defend our Pilots against disciplinary action, senior counsel Stella Dulanya and Contract Admin Committee Member Mike Panebianco as well as Chair of SWAPA's Professional Standards Committee, Jon Ross, to discuss how some of the issues are also impacting his team.
