Today's SWAPA Number is 1200. That's the number of cases that Professional Standards has worked in the last 12 months. That's about 100 per month or about three a day. Those are high numbers and well within our control, but we'd much rather see that number of cases go here than over to company channels. So today we sit down for our annual chat with Professional Standards chair, Captain Jon Ross, to update the membership on a must-listen episode about how pilots need to be as familiar with Professional Standards as they are with any other part of the Company or SWAPA.If you have any feedback for us at all, please drop us a line at comm@swapa.org or tap here to send us a text.Follow us online:Twitter - https://twitter.com/swapapilotsFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/swapa737

Presented by Karen Hauer, PhD; University of California, San Francisco STFM Conference on Medical Student Education 2025 Scott Fields Lecture | Saturday, February 1 2025Bias in assessment of medical learners presents a critical, ongoing challenge to the quality of medical education. Experiences of bias may manifest in access to learning opportunities as well as in quantitative ratings and qualitative comments describing performance. This bias interferes with learners' developmental progress through training and has consequences for their future careers and the patients they may serve. Solutions to address bias are needed for individual faculty and leaders designing and implementing education systems. This session will review the literature on the causes and consequences of bias in assessment of learner performance in medical education. Dr Karen Hauer will discuss recommendations to avoid bias in assessment drawn from the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation Conference on Ensuring Fairness in Medical Education Assessment: Conference Recommendations Report. The speaker will share resources for implementing recommendations and using them in faculty development.Learning ObjectivesUpon completion of this session, participants should be able to:Identify causes and consequences of bias in assessment of clinical learnersApply recommendations to avoid bias in assessment Describe the design and implementation of an equitable assessment systemCopyright © Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, 2025Karen Hauer, PhD: Dr Hauer is vice dean for Education and Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Today we're all on our own without a guest, because we're presenting original Cardiff Met research! But our colleague Sioned Dafydd is with us in spirit as she was a key member of the three-person research team that carried out this work. Today we're looking at what happens when student teachers change from one school placement to another, and when they move from their initial teacher education into their first job. In particular, we're focusing on the part that Wales's Professional Standards for Teaching and Leadership have to play, but many of the issues we uncovered are universal for all of us who work with new members of the profession. Using the results of interviews with student teachers and their school-based mentors over the course of a year (plus a final interview with three of our participants once they had secured jobs), we pieced together what goes on when new teachers make the transition from one school to another. With a little help from theories by Wenger, Maton and Korthagen & Lagerwerf, we try to explain what causes those tricky moments in new schools when people feel they've gone backwards, and propose some ways to make things easier. --------------------------------------------Recorded in studio D0.18 at Cardiff Metropolitan University's Cyncoed Campus on 16th December 2024

Navigating the complex and often underemphasized requirements of professional standards, legal considerations, and insurance can be challenging for sports nutrition practitioners and personal trainers. Many professionals, especially early in their careers, may overlook or minimize these responsibilities, focusing primarily on the practical and enjoyable aspects of helping clients achieve their goals. However, staying informed and adhering to these standards is not only essential for providing ethical, competent service but is also crucial for minimizing liability. Ignoring or misinterpreting scope-of-practice guidelines and insurance limitations can leave well-meaning professionals exposed to significant legal and financial risks that could have lasting consequences on their careers. In this episode, Alex Thomas joins Danny Lennon and Eric Helms to discuss the essential, if often overlooked, responsibilities that define a successful and resilient career in sports nutrition. Together, they explore best practices for insurance, scope of practice, and the importance of aligning with professional organizations that provide educational and legal support. Irish businesses need to be wary of cyber criminals lying in wait to pounce, according to one of Europe's leading data security experts. Jake Moore, who is a global cybersecurity advisor at ESET and previously spent 14 years pursuing cybercriminals in the UK police force, said that attackers are willing to spend over 200 days in an organisation's network, unnoticed, before launching any sort of attack. "Once a hacker has breached an organisation's network through unprotected endpoints, like a mobile phone, laptop or IoT device, it takes around one minute, 84 seconds on average, to move laterally and get deeper into the network," Moore said. "That is not a lot of time for any network security to react, and, once the harm is done, it takes 73 days, on average, to contain the breach. So, the objective is to prevent the network access in the first place." Moore made the comments ahead of the annual Irish Reporting and Information Security Service cybercrime conference (IRISSCON), in Dublin in November. IRISSCON 2024 takes place on November 6th, at The Aviva Stadium in Dublin, featuring expert speakers and delegates from all over the world, as well as the popular Cybersecurity Challenge, testing the skills of would-be hackers to break the system. Ransomware and phishing attacks remain top threats, according to the ESET software developers. Cybercriminals use AI algorithms to analyse vast amounts of their target segments' data. They look at social media profiles, online behaviour, recent purchases and other publicly available information to create very personalised phishing and social engineering attacks. Your Voice is my Password With Artificial Intelligence affecting every single industry, AI obviously benefits cybercriminals too. "From text and image creation tools, to audio and video generation, the newest wave of cyberattacks is AI supercharged. New defences are needed to protect companies from this next generation of attacks," Moore said. The ESET expert's work with clients begins with some very telling practical examples of their vulnerabilities. Jake Moore has hacked businesses using AI voice cloning technology, stealing money, completely unnoticed, in minutes. He has also, in the guise of work, hacked a police station. Having socially engineered his way into the police station, he was able to steal a laptop, break the encryption, hack into the entire network, and change the password of the Head of Professional Standards, without being caught. Moore also engineered a targeted phishing attack, via LinkedIn, on the CEO of a company, illustrating how easy it is to manipulate people into handing over their account credentials, and data, using hacking tools widely available on the internet, (if you know where to look). Simple social engineering techniques, like psychological manipulation, tricks users into making security mistakes, or giving away sensitive information, so the criminal can take over their email account, website, or even their life, the cybersecurity pro says. The Rise of the Clones Deepfakes are getting easier to make and are the next big tool in the social engineer's toolkit, the cybersecurity sector insists. "From hacked CCTV to cloned RFID cards, deepfake technology is used to create new identities or to steal the identities of real people," Moore said. Attackers create false documents, or fake their victim's voice, so they can hack systems, create accounts, get information, or purchase things by pretending to be that person. From the malicious spread of misinformation to financial crime, IRISSCON 2024 delegates will hear how deepfake fraud is becoming more sophisticated and difficult to identify and how tech security in business can, and must, stay a step ahead of the hackers. Conference updates and bookings are available on the IRISSCON website: https://iriss.ie/irisscon/#about.

To learn more, and to prepare for the practice changes taking effect August 17, 2024, go to facts.realtor.   Welcome to Part 2 of my conversation with Lynn Madison! Today we are talking about different business models. As you refresh your presentation of what you do and what you charge, we want you maybe to consider some other options or, at least, some other parts of the business and we also want you to be aware of the possibility that somebody else might have a different business model; how are you going to be prepared for that? Go back to episode 098 to hear the start of our conversation on clearly communicating your value to your clients. Lynn Madison has received the REBAC Hall of Fame Award, the REBI Distinguished Educator Award, and Educator and REALTOR® of the Year, both from the Illinois Association of REALTORS®. She is also one of the primary authors of the ABR® designation course and we are thrilled to have her back with us again. We will link to the other two episodes where Lynn has been with us, in the show notes.   Welcome back, Lynn Madison, for Episode 2! [2:25] So we just want to talk about maybe some of the different ways people can get paid, maybe some challenges we see, and what we hear from people talking about business models. [2:45] Your business model must be something that is allowed in your state. Your menu of services must not include options that are lower than the minimum services that the license law requires you to give.   [5:05] Competition.REALTOR (now facts.realtor) lists tasks you perform for clients. Are they in your business model? Lynn says your business model is what you deliver but be consistent. She talks about when inconsistency hurt her.   [7:44] If you provide different levels of service, have the client check and sign on a written document what level of services they are choosing, so there is no confusion or anger later. Be very clear about it.   [8:37] Lynn has a pledge of performance. In it, she offers her full level of service to every client. If she offered less service to some, she would need a separate pledge of performance for that level of service.   [10:07] Lynn teaches about six buckets: finding a suitable property, showing property, analyzing the market, writing a reasonable offer, negotiating the offer, and following the transaction through to the closing.   [10:47] People don't like to lose out. When you have a buyer sign a Buyer Representation Contract, you move the buyer from customer-level service to client-level service. Lynn explains what that means by law.   [14:50] You're going to want to have this Buyer Representation Contract signed with a compensation amount in it. You're going to have to figure out how to talk about compensation with your buyers.   [15:33] Stop being afraid of talking about compensation. Explain what it is you do to earn the money you are making. Nobody works for free. [19:34] Study in the last 18 months in your market, how long it took you to find a property for your buyer. Tell your client, in this market, it takes about four to six months to find a house. Would that fit your plans?   [22:54] Follow your state law regarding the contract and protection period. What if they buy something after the contract that you showed them? If the contract period is long, there must be an opt-out.   [26:52] Lynn wants to give her buyers premium-level services but if the buyer finds a house in two weeks instead of six months, that's a good place to offer a menu of services. Also, Monica tells why this podcast episode is not an antitrust violation conversation in the discussion of business models.   [29:27] You can use a free Zoom account to meet with buyers, especially if out of town. Share your screen with them. Tell how they will be notified of new listings in MLS and other features and statistics.   [31:10] Statistics of days a home stays on the market can show the urgency of making a move to buy a home. You can show these electronically or on paper. NAR resources linked below can help.   [32:43] Lynn takes NAR resources and personalizes them for herself to show her clients her pledge of performance of what she will do for them to get them the right property at the right terms to the closing.   [34:40] How Lynn deals with appraisal disagreements.   [35:41] In this hour, Monica and Lynn have shared some of what they teach in the ABR® class. Be sure to take the ABR® designation, with Lynn, online, or locally.   [36:49] “If you've not read the book, Who Moved My Cheese?, get it and read it. If you think about what we're going through, it helps you realize that you've got to change your mindset.”   [37:52] Monica thanks Lynn Madison. She gives us so much great information! What is your takeaway from this conversation? Can you bring some points back to your team or brokerage firm?   [38:05] Please share this podcast with your fellow agents. I am learning all the time and I am talking with some very well-trained and thoughtful educators. They want to help you and the people that they train to make the transition that needs to be made. Please share this as a resource for this time.   [38:31] The Center for REALTOR® Development offers excellent training and you can find live, live virtual, and online courses, designations, and micro-courses. "Be curious, maintain an open mind, and maintain your high standards." - Lee Bainbrigge Our water treatment community is a close-knit brotherhood and sisterhood, regardless of where we live. We face similar challenges and share a common goal: to grow and learn from each other. Our latest podcast episode features a conversation that delves into the differences and similarities in Legionella control practices and regulations between the United States and the United Kingdom. This insightful episode features Lee Bainbrigge, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer of SMS Environmental Ltd as our charming lab partner.    Key Insights from Lee Bainbrigge on Legionella Control: Differences in Legionella Management and Documentation In both countries, the primary Legionella control methods are keeping water moving and using temperature control. However, the UK places a stronger emphasis on documentation and compliance systems to record control measures. "The types of control you are using, you need to record it, you need to write it down in a compliance system," Lee explained. If a system tests positive for Legionella, it is crucial to effectively and clearly communicate to the client, "There's Legionella in the system. Let's look at doing something about it." In the UK, these communications are meticulously documented and kept as digital records for future reference. Crafting Effective Legionella Legislation When discussing what lawmakers should consider when writing Legionella legislation, Lee advised caution and balance. He noted that the guidance in the USA is relatively proportionate and effective when in the right hands. "Effectively, the guidance you've got in the USA is relatively proportionate... In the right hands, you're going to do a good job with the guidance that you've got," he noted. In contrast, the UK's approach can sometimes be overly prescriptive. Lee suggests a middle ground, advocating for guidance that is neither too relaxed nor too stringent, ensuring efforts and resources truly reduce risk. "I think the most reasonable guidance you could come up with is somewhere in between the two. There are pros and cons on both sides," Lee mentioned. ASHRAE 188 and Its Direction in the USA Lee affirmed that the USA is on the right track with ASHRAE 188 for Legionella control. "Yes, absolutely!" he responded when asked if the US is heading in the right direction. He highlighted the importance of competent professionals conducting Legionella risk assessments to ensure effective control measures. "Make sure that the people that are carrying out your Legionella risk assessment are competent and you're actually getting good advice at the beginning of your control scheme," he advised. Challenges and Technology Opportunities in the UK In the UK, current challenges include maintaining competency and training within the industry, adapting to novel systems like heat pumps, and dealing with reduced water flow in buildings. Lee mentioned the potential of new technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and remote monitoring, which could revolutionize Legionella control, although current guidance has yet to fully incorporate these advancements. "We have got challenges with... new novel systems coming into our domestic hot and cold water systems. The use of heat pumps and different ways of sourcing energy and reducing water flow are all having an impact on Legionella control," Lee explained. Building a Global Culture of Learning Lee is a strong advocate for collaboration within the industry. He believes in learning from each other and sharing best practices, which can greatly benefit organizations and improve public health protection. "I'm a big believer of us being collaborative in this industry," Lee shared. "When we see what somebody else is doing and establish what's working for organizations, that is just so great to see." Professional Standards and Certifications Lee discussed the significance of the Certified Water Technologist (CWT) certification. SMS Environmental Ltd. values high standards and depth of knowledge within its team, which is why they are strong proponents of the CWT certification. "We don't have in the UK an equivalent qualification specific to water treatment," Lee explained. "We've certainly looked at the CWT and gone, 'this does really what people that have been involved in the organization in the industry far longer than me tell me was very much the way the sector was born.'" Advice for Water Professionals Lee's best advice to water professionals is to "Be curious, maintain an open mind, and maintain your high standards." This approach has helped SMS Environmental Ltd. build strong, honest relationships with their customers and maintain their status as a leading independent company in the industry. Ken Simeral, a prominent figure in the real estate community in Acadiana, joins Discover Lafayette to discuss his thoughts on investing in real estate when the numbers work in your favor, the importance of offering high-quality, targeted service to his clients, and his lifetime involvement in bettering our community. Ken is President-Elect of the REALTOR® Association of Acadiana (RAA). A devoted family man, he has been married to his wife, Deborah, since 1977 and they are the parents of two sons, Kyle and Jeffrey. Ken brings a seasoned voice to the industry: when he joined the former Lafayette Association of Realtors, there were 320 realtors; today there are more than 1850 members of the Realtor Association of Acadiana. Ken is owner of Magnolia Real Estate & Construction. He and his son, Kyle, operate Scott Quick Lube and Thermal Insulation Contractors. Ken, his wife, Deborah, and his sons own Simeral Properties, a company with multiple real estate holdings. And Ken enjoys the outdoors; he keeps horses and cattle on his 40-acre farm in Arnaudville where he and Deborah reside, and if you drop in, you may see him navigating his backhoe on the property. Pictured is La Maison Chatrian, a bed and breakfast home that Ken and Deborah Simeral offer to travelers visiting lovely Grand Coteau. Built circa 1835, the home sleeps 12 and is one of the oldest homes in Grand Coteau. Ken and Deborah spent seven years restoring the home. Restoration of historic properties is a passion of Ken's. Ken took his first real estate class in 1972, at a time when interest rates were 18%. By the early 80s, they had lowered a bit to 12%. With his decades of experience in residential and commercial real estate, Ken has witnessed firsthand the cyclical nature of real estate and interest rates, and he counsels homebuyers not to let the current interest rates be a controlling factor in their decision to buy. A 1969 high school graduate, Ken started college that fall. Unfortunately, his timing put him in the first draft lottery to determine military service since WWII in 1942. When he pulled #64 (based upon his birthday), he decided to enlist in the Air National Guard, and thereafter spent some time in Korea during the Vietnam War. Ken never returned to college studies, but began his lifelong journey of work, where he learned from others, benefitted from his own hard work, and the art of making smart investments. Always good with numbers, Ken bought his first home in 1972 on Garfield St. in Lafayette while in his early 20s. While managing an 18-unit apartment complex in Lafayette, he bought his second property in the McComb Veazey neighborhood, and then used equity from the first two homes to roll financing into three rentals. He soon married Deborah and started working with the Grand Paper Company, a national outfit where he was hired to be only the third salesman in the territory after 150 years in business. When he was offered a national rep position with the company, he realized he didn't want to be on the road each and every week; he wanted to be home with his family. Ken Simeral says, looking back on his rich life, "I was taught by older mentors. Everything I know I've learned from other people I could trust. The WWII generational ethics, how to do things right. Randolph Trappey was a mentor to me and I watched him build great houses. I just followed what he and others did." Ken ended up teaching the Realtor Code of Ethics ("Code of Conduct"), and served as the Chair of Professional Standards for Realtors. Ken looks back at this early period of his life with gratitude about what he learned from others. He also has advice for young homebuyers who are looking from guidance from seasoned real estate owners such as himself. "It has to be a good investment before you worry about pretty colors on the wall. Before buying, determine whether the cost of the house purchase plus the cost of repairs equals the value of the home when...

Welcome back, Friends! Our podcast has received another award from AVA Digital Awards, an international competition that recognizes excellence by creative professionals in the area of digital communication. We received a Gold Award for Podcast and Audio Production!  We have another amazing award-winning guest today! She has been recognized as an amazing instructor, having received the ABR® Hall of Fame Award, the REBI Distinguished Educator Award, REALTOR® of the Year, and Educator of the Year, both from the Illinois Association of REALTORS®. She is one of the primary authors of the ABR® designation course and we are thrilled to have her back with us again. She was with us last year to talk about the changes in the industry and how to prepare for them. We will link to that episode in the show notes. Today, we are going to dig in deeper with Lynn, specifically about ways to show your value to your clients. We must improve our skill in communicating what we do and how valuable our skills are to our clients. We have two episodes this month with Lynn, and I hope you can listen to both of them! They are worth your time!   [3:19] Build your value proposition; if you don't quantify what you're doing, you don't know the value you bring to buyers.   [4:46] You need the client to know what you do for them. It is sometimes harder and more work to get a lower-priced transaction to the closing table. The average buyer doesn't know the value you bring if you haven't explained it to them. [7:39] Lynn notes that “value proposition” is sales language and people don't want to be sold, they want to buy a house. Tell the buyer about the value you bring them, not about your value proposition.   [8:29] A contractor building a house has a standards sheet showing what is included and some optional upgrades. Lynn talks about using a Buyer Representation Agreement. Lynn makes sure the buyer understands the “big bucket” things she does for them.   [11:38] A weekly call with buyers keeps them updated on what you have done for them to help them buy a house. Lynn thinks we all should be doing that.   [13:46] Lynn tells buyers that not all available properties are on the internet and not all properties on the internet are available.   [14:03] If you don't consistently touch base with the buyer, they go out looking with other people. Stay in touch weekly with your buyers!   [16:59] Use your analytical tool in your MLS and communicate to your buyers what the market is doing. Lynn shares a recent example about pricing listings.   [18:34] It's hard for buyers to see we have an inventory shortage when the houses are everywhere. Unfortunately, in many cases, we're not communicating this to our buyers.   [19:24] In your weekly call with your buyer, share data, such as the updated absorption rate. In the market niche you're looking at, what went under contract this week?   [20:03] Lynn shares a story from her travels. Lynn shares more facts about the absorption rate or month's supply of inventory. [24:36] You would have a license law problem and a code of ethics problem if you showed houses to someone in an exclusive contract to purchase with another brokerage company.   [28:16] If something changes along the way, you may need multiple consultations.   [31:23] Sellers are now recording the agent and buyers going through their homes. So we have to be careful what we talk about. This is a relationship business. We build relationships in person.   [33:54] Some websites pull the new listing data in the middle of the night. That puts them almost 24 hours behind the MLSs. This happens in a counseling session.   [34:36] Lynn's last word: “NAR has a website called Competition.realtor. On there find ‘105 Things that Buyer Agents Do for Their Buyer Clients.'   [35:20] It might help you to formulate your value proposition. Find out what you're passionate about, that your buyers have benefitted from, and talk about that.   [38:05] Kudos for doing your best to get your clients the help they need and want. The Center for REALTOR® Development offers excellent training and you can find live, live virtual, and online courses, designations, and micro-courses. Check out the ABR® offerings locally or at Learning.realtor.   Tweetables:   “You go too long without talking to somebody and you can't figure out how to get yourself back on track.” — Lynn Madison   “Not all of the available properties are on the internet and not all of what's on the internet is available. We have stuff in the MLS that they don't see. Most MLSs do.” — Lynn Madison   “This is a relationship business and it's hard to build a relationship if all you're ever doing is communicating with somebody via computer and texting.” — Lynn Madison   “I talk with my buyers a lot about my having at least 10 different ways to make their offer stronger in a multiple-offer situation.” — Lynn Madison   Guest Links:Madisonseminars.com lynn@madisonseminars.com   080: “Talking Buyers, Contracts, Value, and Fees with Lynn Madison”   NAR Resource LinksABR®   Additional Links: Microcourses found at Learning.REALTOR. Mitigation has been an integral part of death penalty defense for decades and there are minimum standards that apply in that context.  When an early and thorough mitigation workup occurs, good things happen. But, many non-capital attorneys don't recognize the need to adopt this approach in their everyday criminal matters.  Without good mitigation, even in non-cap cases, the sentening results will almost certainly be disastrous. It's time to make MITIGATION a priority for every defense team.    To that end, a phenomenal and deeply important new article makes the case for the creating minimum standards of care for developing mitigation in non-capital cases.   In this week's set for sentencing, we talk to the fantastic four authors of this piece, Elizabeth Vartkessian, Thea Posel, Anthony Ginez, and Lela Hubbard!   IN THIS EPISODE:   Going back three generations to develop mitigation; Need for repeated and face-to-face interviews;  The need for a team approach to mitigation;  The importance of “coalition building”;  Anticipated resistance to uniform mitigation standards in non-cap cases; How uniform standards will force more funding for mitigation; How uniform standards will give attorneys more support for second-look cases; How to bridge the gap between the data and the narrative;  Preventing mitigation “backfire”; Where we are in the process of securing uniform standards and how you can help.   LINKS:    Article under consideration: https://law.utexas.edu/faculty/publications/2023-when-justice-depends-on-it-the-need-for-professional-standards-for-mitigation-development-/download Capital guidelines For Mitigation: https://law.hofstra.edu/pdf/academics/journals/lawreview/lrv_issues_v36n03_cc1_guidelines_final.pdf https://www.americanbar.org/content/dam/aba/administrative/death_penalty_representation/Standards/National/supplementary-guidelines-mitigation-july-2008.pdf Campaign for fair sentencing of youth: https://cfsy.org/ Community Resource Initiative  (now “Full Picture Justice”)  https://www.fullpicturejustice.org/about Advancing Real Change (ARC)  https://advancechange.org/   FIRST EPISODE WITH DR. Elise Stefanik Demands Letitia James Disbarment for ‘Lawfare Campaign' Against Trump

Real News Now Podcast

The distinguished Chair of the House Republican Conference, Elise Stefanik from New York, has taken a decisive stand. She unveiled a comprehensive 64-page document on Tuesday, addressed to the New York Committee on Professional Standards. The document articulated her demand for the disqualification of New York State's Attorney General, Letitia James, accusing her of crossing the boundaries 'principles of fairness and impartiality'. Stefanik contends that James has used social media platforms to conduct 'unrelenting legal warfare' against the former President of the United States, Donald Trump. The proposition lies in the belief that if James is disbarred, it could significantly enhance Trump's potential prospects of circumventing James' legal action against him. The Attorney General's endeavor appears to be focused on financially crippling Trump, proposing astronomical penalties of around $370 million and ultimately barring him from his historical source of livelihood, the real estate business. James asserts that Trump perpetrated financial malfeasance. In a communication secured by Breitbart News, Stefanik expressed her view: The conduct of Attorney General James infringes the underlying principles of fair and unbiased practice. This is evident from her persistent legal onslaught on Trump, which is marked by over 50 biased comments posted on her social media channels in the trial's initial five weeks alone, according to Stefanik's claim. Stefanik continued, alleging James' aim since commencing her political career has been to target Trump. Stefanik remarked that such behavior tends to overshadow the credibility of the judicial process. Furthermore, it breaches the code of conduct expected to be upheld by James as a licensed lawyer. While American citizens, as a right, are allowed to express their perspectives on public matters, there are raised expectations for those in legal positions, such as attorneys, and more so for state attorneys. They are termed 'officers of the court', and thus, are held to the higher rigour of conducting themselves professionally due to the significance and influence of their role. The nature of her actions has the potential to violate her professional obligations and could lead to causing unrecoverable damage to the public's diminishing faith in our legal bodies, avers Stefanik. She extended her plea to the Attorney Grievance Committee, beseeching them to take immediate and substantial disciplinary measures. Their action, as Stefanik views, should range from an immediate interim suspension to the ultimate penalty of disbarment or potential suspension of Attorney General James. It is with such measures that the dignity of the legal profession can be maintained, and justice is delivered impartially. Stefanik utilizes her document to provide 50 precise instances as demonstration for the New York Committee on Professional Standards to contemplate: Final Feb 12. She hopes that this litany of alleged infractions will provide the necessary proof to uphold her complaint against Letitia James. However, James' legal assault on Trump is not an isolated incident. As it turns out, the former president is at the center of a barrage of legal issues. From the local to federal level, authorities have filed four separate indictments against him, signaling the magnitude and seriousness of the legal situation he faces. The collection of charges levied against the president is notable. They amount to 91 separate counts and include: 34 counts in New York that could lead to a maximum sentence of 136 years; 40 counts in Miami, with the potential for up to 450 years; four counts in Washington, DC, that could mean an additional 55 years; and 13 counts in Georgia, which could tack on another 76.5 years. In spite of the seemingly insurmountable legal opposition facing him, former President Trump has a strong and vocal base of support, of which Congresswoman Stefanik is an influential part. Her aggressive defense of the former President exemplifies the divisive nature of current American politics and the deep lines drawn between partisan camps. The ultimate outcome of these numerous legal battles remains uncertain. What is for sure, however, is that the decisions will have profound implications not just for Trump's personal future, but also for the legal landscape of the United States and the extent to which political bias is perceived to influence judicial proceedings. Stefanik's actions and her call for James' disbarment underscore the fraught nature of these proceedings. It's a significant case, tying together threads of politics, law, and public perception, and generating impassioned debates about the fundamental principles of fairness and impartiality that Stefanik alleges have been breached. The discourse triggered by this incidence reflects the complex intertwining of politics and justice in modern America. Besides the legal issues at hand, it probes deeper questions about the impartiality of those entrusted with the power to effect justice, and whether political motivations can and should be separated from legal ones. In summary, the ongoing struggle surrounding Attorney General Letitia James's pursuit of Trump, and Stefanik's counter-stance carry significant weight. They illuminate the intense political climate in the United States, offer lessons on the judiciary's role in the maintenance of fairness and impartiality, and reveal the boundaries of political intervention in legal matters. Tracy and Debra are back on their microphones telling some truths this week. One of our absolute core values is to advocate for the professional practice of divorce coaching and yet we keep coming up against 2 things that make us crazy. The first one, we talked about a couple of weeks ago and that is individuals using the title of divorce coach without the proper training. If you missed that episode, it's #74 and we recommend you give that a listen before you dive into this. It might give you some background and context. But today, we really want to wrestle with the idea that there is no oversight in the divorce coaching industry. There's no organization that determines which training programs meet minimum standards. Hell, no one has even defined what those standards are. We review some of the components of most professional designations and what's missing in the profession of divorce coaching including:Educational Standards/RequirementsResidency/SupervisionExaminationContinuing EducationFinally, we tackle the trademark fallacy. A trademark is NOT an assurance of quality, it's NOT an assurance of standards, recognition or status - it's just branding. For about $250, you file some paperwork with the USPTO and, voila!, you've got a trademark to protect the name of your company, your logo, or your program. Any language that suggests otherwise is intentionally misleading. All we can do for now is continue to remind both potential learners and clients to pause before they believe everything they read. In this episode, we chat with two AFA-represented regional airline Flight Attendants, Katiauna Dates from Envoy and Wendy Kaihara from Horizon. Katiauna and Wendy have gotten more involved with their unions at the LEC* level to support their coworkers. Here are some of the topics we discuss during this podcast: Reserve Policies - Definitive contractual provisions in place improve the quality of life of reserve Flight Attendants. Management Accountability - Contractual language that holds management accountable and compensates Flight Attendants when violations occur. Commuter Policies - The latest improvements to commuter policies and how they provide Flight Attendants with more flexibility in planning commutes and protection from discipline when commutes don’t work out as planned Contractual Attendance Policies - When attendance is addressed in the contract, it eclipses company policy. We discuss how attendance policies protect AFA-represented Flight Attendants, including those on probation. New Hire Retention - Mentorship programs have increased new hire retention. AFA-run programs such as EAP and Professional Standards help Flight Attendants resolve issues without involving or alerting the company and remain completely confidential. * Definitions: Master Executive Council (MEC) - All Local Council Presidents from the same airline form a Master Executive Council (MEC). The MEC elects a President, Vice President, and Secretary-Treasurer for three-year terms and handles negotiations and other business affecting Members at that airline. Local Executive Council (LEC) - All flight attendants assigned to the same domicile form the Local AFA Council. Each base and satellite base throughout our system is represented by a Local Executive Council (LEC). Every LEC has three elected Local Council officers: President, Vice-President, and Secretary, as well as elected council Representatives. Any Member in good standing has the ability to run for an elected position, each of which has a three-year term. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ooitstime/message

Today's SWAPA Number is 649,000. That's the number of new pilots that Boeing projects will be needed to staff the growing demand for airlines in the next two decades. With such a high demand and low supply of qualified aviators, business as usual from the past must change to meet this new reality. On today's episode, we will be talking with the Training Committee Chair, Captain Greg Bowen and Professional Standards chair, Captain Jon Ross, about the pilot shortage, how training must adapt to the new and diverse experience of our recruits, and what pilots can do to acclimate to the new environment we find ourselves in.If you have any feedback for us at all, please drop us a line at comm@swapa.orgFollow us online:Twitter - https://twitter.com/swapapilotsFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/swapa737

BrownTown breaks down the relationship between police abolition and state-sanctioned police accountability measures with newly elected Police District Councilors David Orlikoff and Ashley Vargas. The guests square their PIC abolitionist organizing roots with the new accountability structure, Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability (CCPSA), for the Chicago Police Department. Three years after the first installment in the midst of the 2020 uprisings, BrownTown and the organizers-turned-electeds re-contextualize the path to abolition with the paradoxes, nuances, benefits, and challenges of this new structure on the foreground of the decades-long demand for community control over the police.
