Anne Cantener reçoit en studio Rebecca Torres Serrano, Cubaine qui vit en exil depuis deux ans en France. Elle est doctorante en Études hispaniques à Paris VIII. Elle raconte la situation de son pays et nous livre son analyse sur la pression actuelle exercée par les États-Unis.   Dans l'île, l'électricité est enfin revenue après une panne de courant général de 24 heures, la sixième en près d'un an et demi. Les coupures sont quotidiennes et la vie est difficile. Rebecca Torres Serrano parle de « torture » et du désespoir des Cubains. Elle insiste notamment sur le manque de médicaments, de personnels soignants et de médecins. La situation est encore plus compliquée depuis que Cuba est privée de son allié, Nicolas Maduro, et que les États-Unis imposent un blocus pétrolier au pays. La tension est encore montée cette semaine puisque Donald Trump a menacé de « prendre Cuba ». « La majorité des Cubains veulent un changement de régime, peu importe comment. Ils sont même prêts à ce qu'il y ait une intervention étrangère », explique Rebecca Torres Serrano. Sur place, le mécontentement grandit. Il y a eu des manifestations ces derniers jours. Mais la répression du régime reste féroce. « Elle ne s'abat pas uniquemement sur les gens qui sortent dans la rue pour protester. On va en prison même quand on publie sur instagram qu'on souhaite des changements », raconte la jeune femme. Les quelques gestes d'ouverture du régime récemment ne convainquent pas Rebecca Torres Serrano. Les autorités ont annoncé la libération d'une cinquantaine de prisonniers politiques. « Ce n'est rien comparé aux près de 2.000 prisonniers politiques dans le pays », réagit la doctorante. « C'est juste un geste en direction de Washington. » Selon elle, le régime avait déjà montré des signes d'ouverture en 2016, sous la présidence Obama. « Mais dès que le régime socialiste en tant qu'institution est menacé, il se referme. » Rebecca Torres Serrano n'attend rien des négociations en cours avec les États-Unis. « Washington discute avec la famille Castro. Qu'est-ce que cela va apporter au peuple cubain ? »   Une victoire sportive hautement symbolique Le Venezuela a remporté hier (17 mars 2026) la Classique mondiale de baseball, le Mondial de cette discipline, face aux États-Unis, et à Miami en plus. « UNE NUIT HISTORIQUE ! » pour El Universal qui laisse éclater sa joie. C'est la première fois que les Vénézuéliens sont couronnés champions du monde, rappelle le journal. « Il y aura un avant et un après », assure El Universal. Cette victoire « a une saveur particulière en raison de l'adversaire : les États-Unis, puissance historique du baseball », poursuit le quotidien qui s'en tient à une lecture purement sportive de l'événement tandis que Tal Cual en fait une analyse plus politique. « Dans un pays marqué par l'urgence sociale, l'émigration massive, les violations des droits humains (...) et l'escalade des tensions politiques depuis la capture de Nicolas Maduro », ce titre est « un baume d'unité, qui a réuni les Vénézuéliens, même ceux vivant à l'étranger, lors d'une célébration qui ignore les divisions et les crises économiques », écrit le site en ligne. Même son de cloche dans les colonnes du Miami Herald où l'on peut lire : les Vénézuéliens « ont joué pour leurs familles, pour leur pays, pour leurs compatriotes restés au pays, confrontés à l'instabilité politique et à un avenir incertain ». Un moment symbolique fort qui n'a pas échappé à la présidente Delcy Rodriguez. Elle a décrété ce mercredi férié. Quant à Donald Trump, il a une nouvelle fois trouvé le moyen de s'approprier cette victoire en sous-entendant sur son réseau Truth Social que le Venezuela pourrait devenir le 51è État des États-Unis.   Des tensions au procès de Cristina Kirchner En Argentine, l'ancienne présidente, Cristina Kirchner, a comparu hier (17 mars 2026) dans le cadre d'un procès de corruption. L'audience ne s'est pas très bien déroulée, selon la presse argentine. Clarin relate les échanges tendus entre l'ancienne présidente et le tribunal. Alors qu'elle pensait avoir la parole directement, Ciristina Kirchner a dû décliner son identité, ce qui l'a visiblement agacée, raconte le journal. Puis, elle quitte la salle sans répondre aux questions des juges car dit-elle, elle refuse de participer à ce cirque.  Alors qu'elle est mise en cause dans ce que la justice qualifie de plus grande affaire de corruption de toute l'histoire de l'Argentine, elle a choisi une défense politique, davatange que technique, analyse Clarin. « Sa défense, c'est l'attaque. Elle s'en prend à la justice », complète La Nacion. « Avec Cristina Kirchner, on n'est jamais déçu », ironise le quotidien.   Le Salvador durcit encore plus sa législation en matière pénale Désormais, les personnes reconnues coupables de viols, de meurtres ou de terrorisme pourront être condamnées à la prison à perpétuité, nous apprend la Prensa Grafica. Le pays a adopté une réforme constitutionnelle hier (17 mars 2026). Nayib Bukele a utilisé une procédure accélérée pour faire passer son texte, explique le journal. Episode 79: Chris MacKenzie. UConn Women's hockey coach Chris MacKenzie joined the prohockeypod this week. Chris grew up in Niagara Falls where he played minor hockey before jumping to Junior C and then Junior B. We talked about how him going level by level was good for his development. Ending his junior career with an Ontario championship, Chris took at chance and committed to a brand new D3 school, Niagara University. This new powerhouse was coached by Blaise MacDonald, who would have a big impact on Chris's life and career. Niagara would play 2 years at D3, win a championship in year 2 before being promoted to D1, where they didn't miss a step. They would beat a lot of top teams as a new program and went on an NCAA Tournament run in Chris's senior season. After graduating, Chris would head to Finland to play a year of pro hockey with TPS. After that season, Chris would get a job as an Assistant Coach at UMass-Lowell, who was coached by Blaise MacDonald. We talked about his 8 seasons there and how he continued to learn from Blaise. After Lowell, Chris would return to Niagara University as a Head Coach, but on the Women's side. This is where we would cross paths, as I was in my freshman year at Niagara. The Women's program would be shut down a few years later and Chris ended up at University of Connecticut as the Women's HC. We talked about the type of athlete's he looks to recruit at UConn, where he found the program and how much they have progressed over his 12 seasons (and counting), capped off by a division championship and NCAA Tournament bid in 23/24. We also dove into how the women's game has grown over the years and where Chris sees it continuing to go. Hope you enjoy!

The city club are just eight years in existence and their 4-13 to 1-18 West Board victory over Oranmore/Maree two weeks ago was the silverware achieved by the young club. Athenry beat Dunmore MacHales 0-5 to 0-4 in the North Board decider. Brought together to promote the Irish language among gaelic football players in the city, Gaeil na Gaillimhe have gone from strength to strength with membership growing while they've also competed in the Comortas Peile na Gaeltachta among other competitions. One of their founding members, and current team manager, is Stiofán Seoige who used to play for Salthill/Knocknacarra.  He caught up with Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly during the week to chat about the growth of Gaeil na Gaillimhe, their ambitions going forward while also lookin ahead to Sunday's game against Athenry. == Throw-in at Corofin on Sunday is 12pm.
