It's Monday, June 24th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Catholic man imprisoned for accidentally stepping on Quran Since April 27th, a Catholic man has been jailed under blasphemy against Islam charges in Lahore, Pakistan for inadvertently stepping out of his rickshaw onto some papers said to be pages of the Quran, reports Morning Star News. Dennis Albert, a 35-year-old rickshaw driver, was booked under one section of Pakistan's Muslim blasphemy laws that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and another law that mandates life in prison if the Quran has been defiled. The Lahore police arrested him on the complaint of Mubeen Ilyas, a Muslim passerby who alleged he saw Albert standing on some pages barefoot near a rickshaw, and that after closely looking at them, he found that they were Islamic scriptures. According to Open Doors, Pakistan is the 7th most difficult country worldwide in which to be a Christian. Presidential debate set for Thursday night President Joe Biden is hunkered down with aides at Camp David for several days to get ready to debate rival Donald Trump, who is eschewing traditional preparation and instead holding informal policy discussions between campaign stops, report Reuters. The face-off in Atlanta, at 9:00 p.m. ET this Thursday will be the earliest presidential debate in modern U.S. history and a critical event for both candidates. Biden, 81, and former president Trump, 78, are neck-and-neck in national opinion polls, with a considerable slice of the electorate still undecided five months before the November 5th vote. Washington Gov. stockpiles Abortion Kill Pill if Trump is re-elected In preparation for “The resistance to a new Trump administration,” Washington's Democratic Governor Jay Inslee is stockpiling Abortion Kill Pills, reports ThePostMillennial.com. After the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against a challenge to Biden's Food and Drug Administration which allowed the Abortion Kill Pill to be sent through the mail without an in-person doctor consultation, leaders of the Democratic Party are preparing in case a new Trump administration rescinds the approval or uses the 1873 Comstock Act to criminalize mailing the drug across state lines. According to a New York Times article, Governor Inslee's stockpile of the Abortion Kill Pill is locked away in a state warehouse. Inslee is one of at least five Democratic governors who have established stockpiles of Mifepristone. The others are the governors of California, Massachusetts, New York, and Oregon. Tennessee governor calls for 30 days of prayer and fasting in July In contrast to the radical leftist antics of the Washington Democratic State Governor, Tennessee Republican Governor Bill Lee made a great decision. In what has been described as an “historic gesture,” Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has signed a bill calling for 30 days of prayer and fasting beginning July 1 in the Volunteer State. Tennessee House Joint Resolution 0803 asks the people of the state “to seek God's hand of mercy and healing on Tennessee.” A letter signed by Tennessee state Senator Mark Pody and Representative Monty Fritts accompanying the resolution invites “those who are physically able and spiritually inclined to do so to join in a 30-day season of prayer and intermittent fasting for the month of July as a means of humbling ourselves to receive God's grace, mercy, and blessing in Tennessee and in our Nation.” The language of the legislators is reminiscent of 2 Chronicles 7:14 in which God says, “If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, and I will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” Couple discovers abandoned newborn A Katy, Texas couple was shocked on Saturday, June 15th, while out for a family walk, to discover an abandoned newborn baby girl with her umbilical cord still attached, reports FaithWire.com. Daniela Fedele told KHOU-TV that she and her husband noticed a towel on the ground, as her 3-year-old biked toward it, and immediately realized a baby was wrapped inside. FEDELE: “I noticed two little feet moving. My husband was right behind me with the dogs, and I yelled to my husband. ‘A baby, a baby!' And then my husband [was] like, ‘Call 911!' And that's what we did.” They moved the baby out of the heat and into a shaded area while waiting for police. FEDELE: “Once my husband went ahead and picked up the baby, he found the nearest tree right there at that house down the street. He found a little shade.” Fedele said she's in shock over the ordeal, and is struggling to understand why someone would leave the child. FEDELE: “This image has been going on through my head so many times. How can you do that? I was shocked. I was mad. I was upset.” Ultimately, Fedele said she's grateful her family went for a walk and discovered the baby. FEDELE: “I don't know [what] made us go for a walk this morning. We usually do, but sometimes, you know, you just don't want to do it, things happen. But, this morning, we're, like, ‘No let's go ahead and get out.'” I know Who made them go for a walk. The answer is clear. Almighty God Himself, in His compassionate providence, prompted them to go on that walk. Psalm 115:3 says, “Our God is in Heaven; He does whatever pleases Him.” Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed the news of the baby's discovery. GONZALEZ: “The baby was a newborn. Still had fresh placenta on the baby. So, it was freshly born this morning. I praised her. I said, ‘You were in the right place at the right time.' The two witnesses that were thankfully walking on the trail, with their child and their dogs, were blessing.” According to a video taken from a neighbor's Ring camera on their doorbell, just two minutes before Danielle Fidele and her husband discovered the helpless baby girl, a young, slim Hispanic or White male with a fair complexion and black hair placed the baby, wrapped in the blanket on the ground and then ran away. According to the Houston Chronicle, the man, if identified, could face child abandonment charges. When KHOU-TV interviewed Brittney Barnes, a neighbor, she said this. BARNES: “It's still a little disheartening that the baby got left. It's hot. Somebody must have been going through something to have left their child there. But to find out that the baby was okay was a reliever.” The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the baby was found in good condition and will remain hospitalized as they try to locate her family. Fedele urged any young couple who feel trapped by a new baby to consider better options. FEDELE: “You can drop it off at a fire station, a police station, a hospital. But don't leave the baby!” Indeed, under the Baby Moses law, named after the baby rescued from the floating basket in the Nile River in Exodus 2:10, anyone who feels they are unable to care for a newborn younger than 60 days can drop off the child at a Safe Haven and avoid prosecution. As Daniela Fedele pointed out, Safe Havens include places like hospitals or fire stations. But the baby must be handed to an employee at that Safe Haven. 11 Worldview listeners donated $2,020 And finally, toward our $63,000 goal by this past Saturday, June 22nd – the three-week mark of our month-long fundraiser, 11 Worldview listeners stepped up to the plate to help fund our 6-member team for another fiscal year. Our guest, Stephanie Kuzydym is a a DuPont and Emmy award winning journalist, who is the sports enterprise reporter in Louisville, KY at the Louisville Courier Journal, which is part of the USA TODAY Network. She received her bachelor's degree in journalism from Indiana University . She started her journalism career in the sports departments of newspapers in Oklahoma, Ohio and Texas before flipping over to the broadcast side where she learned investigative and accountability reporting. In the world of sports medicine, she reported a seven-month investigation into sudden death in youth sports called Safer Sidelines. She was recently awarded the National Athletic Trainers Association's President's Service Award, the Secondary Schools Athletic Trainers' Committee advocate award and the Korey Stringer Institute's Life Saving Education Award. She is always down for a road trip if it includes a stop at Buc-ees. Lately she's been asking some difficult but insightful questions into a real issue on our school sports sidelines. In April, her multi-part series, “Safer Sidelines” uncovered the many ways high schools, athletic associations and lawmakers have failed to prepare for the worst-case scenario sudden death in sports.Prior to Louisville, Kuzydym worked in Cincinnati as a TV producer of the special projects and investigative unit for WKRC-TV, Local 12. Alongside unit photographer Eric Gerhardt, Kuzydym produced two special projects: Athletes AT Risk, which looked at the health and safety of high school athletes and the healthcare missing from sidelines, and Childhood Poverty: Cincinnati's Crisis, which uncovered why Cincinnati has the fourth-highest childhood poverty rate. She previously worked as a producer on a five-person investigative and special projects unit for KHOU-TV in Houston, where she was responsible for generating new story ideas, planning and conducting interviews, obtaining and organizing data and filing more than 800 open records requests to school districts, police departments and other governmental entities. Her work focused on taking deep dives into police body cameras, teenage anxiety, sex trafficking and high school athletics departments, in Houston and nationally. Her team's work earned them a DuPont, a Gracie and a Lone Star EMMY. In Cleveland, her reporting into concussions turned into a multi-part project, “Mind Over Matter,” which was awarded a Headliner Award.JSMP website: www.jaxsmp.comFASMED website http://fasmed.fadss.org/Guest biography & contact informationStephanie Kuzydym email: skuzydym@gannett.comTwitter @stephkuzyDeadly Games Database: https://data.courier-journal.com/deadly-games-sudden-death-in-athletes/

A Texas mother has pleaded guilty to killing her bedridden daughter and then abandoning her. A woman recently received a life sentence after she admitted to killing her disabled, bedridden seven-year-old child in 2020 and then abandoning him. Police in Bay City, Michigan went to an apartment on the 2200 block of Bordeaux on January 31, 2020, at around 2:36 p.m., to check on the well-being of its occupants, as stated in the department's original press release. The child victim, aged 7, was reportedly discovered dead inside the residence by responding officers. According to the police, they also discovered a 5-year-old and a 3-month-old living there. They took the other kids away, so the story goes. Police say they arrested the mother, a 26-year-old woman named Lauren Dean, for abandoning her child despite the fact that he or she was in imminent danger of suffering serious physical harm. According to reports, she was arrested and taken to the Matagorda County Jail. KTRK-TV reports that on Wednesday, October 5, Dean entered a guilty plea to the murder of her non-communicative child, Jordynn Barrera, who had Down syndrome and cerebral palsy. It was said that Jordynn, too, was reliant on a feeding tube. KHOU-TV reports that Dean pleaded guilty to both murder and abandonment of a child after admitting that she had left her three children at home alone on January 30, 2020. She was also given a life sentence, which will begin after she serves 20 years for the other charge. If you like TRUE CRIME TODAY - Be sure to search and subscribe wherever you download podcasts! The body of a man's on-and-off-again girlfriend was discovered inside the vehicle. The body of a 30-year-old man whose relationship with his on-again, off-again girlfriend was found in an SUV this week has led to an arrest warrant being issued for him. On Monday, October 3 at at 9:51 a.m., dispatchers got two complaints from witnesses who reported a male abusing a female in a parking lot, according to a Pasadena Police Department press conference aired by KHOU-TV. Maira Gutierrez was purportedly witnessed being dragged into a car by a man, subsequently identified as Daniel Chacon. At the time, Chacon may have had a gun in his hand. KHOU said that Gutierrez's body was found in the car at 3 p.m. local time on the corner of Mykawa Road and the South Loop. According to the police report, Chacon and Gutierrez have a 5-month-old kid and have an on-again, off-again relationship. The woman allegedly went to the suspect's apartment in September to see their child before she was kidnapped and shot. Police said they weren't living together at the time of the crime. Chacon is wanted for aggravated kidnapping on warrants acquired by the police, but they claim they have been unable to locate him. Authorities are appealing to the general public for assistance in tracking him down. During their press conference, the police stated that they had discussed the possibility of filing more serious charges with the District Attorney's Office. KPRC-TV reports that Chacon has been arrested for domestic violence on two separate occasions (2012 and 2017) and that following the first arrest, he violated a protective order. Authorities said a 43-year-old man stole a truck and left his 9-month-old daughter, who was injured, in a shed. Katherine McClain reportedly phoned police at 6 a.m. on Saturday, September 24 after hearing a loud truck outside her house, as reported by KPRC-TV. Someone stole their neighbor's truck, according to her daughter, who peeked out the window and watched it happen. McClain's husband reportedly viewed surveillance footage of the property and saw a man in his underwear strolling next door, getting into the truck, and driving away. The man allegedly also attempted to break into their yard-parked cars. It was alleged that the footage was timestamped at around 3 a.m. Officers from the Livingston Police Department reportedly looked at the camera footage, took fingerprints from the cars, and discovered blood in several of them. Clifford Guynes was spotted driving the stolen car by police, according to KPRC. After around three hours, McClain and her family heard their dogs barking at the shed and discovered the 9-month-old daughter who had been left inside. McClain told KPRC it was a "terrible event." There are reports that the toddler was sent to Texas Children's Hospital with a shattered femur. The child's status is unclear at this time, but KHOU-TV reports that she is doing well and is expected to make a full recovery. According to the Polk County Jail records, Guynes was arrested and jailed on charges of harm to a child and abandoning/endangering a kid. He remains imprisoned on $200,000 bond. On September 16th, Guynes was reportedly detained for violating his parole, as reported by KPRC. If you like TRUE CRIME TODAY - Be sure to search and subscribe wherever you download podcasts! A cannibal who admitted to killing a man named Kevin Bacon, hanging him upside down, and eating his body parts has entered a guilty plea. A cannibal, 50 years old, admitted to killing a missing 25-year-old man and consuming his body parts. According to the 35th Circuit Court's online records, Mark Latunski pleaded guilty to open murder, disinterment, and mutilation of a dead body on Thursday, September 22. An attorney for Latunski told the Lansing State Journal that his client had to make a "tough decision to plead guilty." According to the statement, "The law requires that attorneys must follow the objectives of clients found to be legally competent as it relates to decisions, such as pleading guilty, even if the attorneys believe that it is not in the best interests of the client. We will continue to vigorously advocate for Mr. Latunski at the degree hearing and sentencing." According to MLive.com, It's possible that Latunski's defense team planned to argue insanity in court. The trial of Latunski was set to begin on October 18, according to WJBK-TV. According to MLive.com, the victim, Kevin Bacon, was reported missing on Christmas Day 2019 when he failed to appear for breakfast with his parents. Many of his loved ones in Swartz Creek, Michigan, went looking for him. WJBK states that Bacon's roommate revealed to police that Bacon had met a man through the Grindr dating app. The body of Latunski, 25, was found on December 28, 2019, in his Shiawassee County residence, as reported by MLive.com. He was apparently found hanging from the ceiling by his feet, blood pouring from cuts all over his body. According to MLive.com, Some of Bacon's body had been devoured and he had been stabbed in the back and his throat had been cut. Latunski was held in a mental health facility and had many competence hearings while he was there. According to WJBK, Latunski's lawyer asked for a competence hearing in January of 2020, stating in court, "He believes he's named someone else. He believes he's from a royal family out of Wales, the Thomas clan. And just the nature of the crime itself, you've got to send him for this evaluation." According to MLive.com, he was found competent to face trial in October 2020; however, Latunski's legal team requested another review of his mental health in March 2022. A judge determined his competency in May of 2022. 2 Two Texas authorities say a man left his injured infant in a shed and fled in a stolen truck. The Jackson County Prosecutor's Office said in a statement that David Jungerman was found guilty of first-degree murder and armed criminal action on Thursday, September 22. Pickert was found dead the previous day. Officers from the Kansas City Police Department arrived at a residence on October 25, 2017, around 8:07 am, to find Pickert dead in the driveway. A single bullet of "relative rarity" (.17 caliber) is said to have ended his life. According to KSHB-TV Pickert was gunned killed after returning home from sending his sons to school. A source claims that upon hearing the gunshot, his wife ran out to offer assistance. The white van that Jungerman was driving was reportedly sought by police in Kansas City after the tragic encounter. Officers apparently met with Jungerman not long after the shooting, but he wasn't brought into custody. A man matching Jungerman's description was seen by a witness near the van just before the murder, the witness reportedly told police. According to KSHB's reporting, Jungerman first said he was the only person with access to the white van and that he wasn't behind the wheel on the day Pickert was slain. This is according to a report on WDAF-TV. A second witness came forward a couple of months after the incident to say that Jungerman had boasted to him that he had killed a lawyer and evaded capture. On March 8, 2018, according to the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office, investigators searched Jungerman's vehicle after obtaining a warrant. Reports indicate that shortly before Pickert was shot, Jungerman suspected that Pickert had stolen money from him in connection with a judgment that had been rendered against Pickert. According to WDAF, in 2012, Jungerman shot two homeless individuals he said broke into his store. Pickert defended Jeffrey Harris, who had lost a leg and was named as a plaintiff in the case against Jungerman. Juries ruled with Harris on July 24, 2017, awarding him roughly $6 million in damages that Jungerman was ordered to pay. The jury said Harris should receive $750,000 in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. Jungerman will be sentenced Nov. 18. It has been determined that an infant who went missing when her parents were murdered in the 1980s has been found and identified. It took 40 years for Tina Gail Linn Clouse and Harold Dean Clouse Jr. to be positively identified by the Texas Attorney General's Office. There was a little girl named Holly who lived with Gail and Harold, but she was nowhere to be found when the bodies were discovered. Gail and Harold Clouse's deaths and Baby Holly's current location prompted the Clouse family to seek more answers. A number of law enforcement agencies worked with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to locate Holly, who was described as "alive and well" by the attorney general. It has taken Holly 42 years to learn the identities of her parents. As Holly's grandmother, Donna Casasanta, said, "Finding Holly on Junior's birthday was a birthday present from heaven." A number of other families are looking forward to meeting and connecting with a long-lost family member. KHOU-TV reports that Holly is an Oklahoma mother of five. During a press conference, Brent Webster revealed that Holly was taken into the care of a church in Arizona. The women brought Holly to the church wearing white robes and being barefoot. They identified themselves as members of a nomadic religious group. As a refugee from Vietnam, Lily yearned for a sense of security and stability. Lily has been in transition her entire life, from leaving Saigon, to following her career as a News Anchor across the country, to coming back home to Houston. Finding the right home is the biggest emotional purchase of our lives. She knows, because she's done it in different cities, and she understands how tough the decision can be. Lily's roots came full circle, and she's grateful to be firmly planted here. She is finally back in Houston, and she will help you find a place around town where you, too, can call home. Lily was a Broadcast Journalist for 21 years, most recently as a Morning News Anchor at KHOU-TV, the CBS affiliate in Houston. In February, she was blessed with the opportunity to travel back to her homeland of Vietnam as a Reporter and Producer to document her own American Dream, and to tell amazing stories of other Houstonians who call Saigon home. She's been telling stories for a long time… and a *home* is where everybody's story begins. She's had the privilege to live her American Dream in ways she never imagined. It would be her honor to help you with yours. Hello Friends! Join Donna and Paula as they chat with Wild Fire! Be sure to check out the interview on YouTube The best singers draw from experience. And that's true for young as well as well-seasoned artists. Though still in their mid teens, sisters Kelli and Kayla Iutzwig, a.k.a. Wild Fire, prove this point at show after show, in song after song. Their self-titled, debut EP Wild Fire confirms that their future is bright. Their sophomore EP Been There., released in April, 2019, confirms that this future is now, with a soundtrack that's infectious, fun and impossible to resist. More than that, they are already conveying their stories through music in ways that inspire with audiences their age and beyond. Singly and in harmony, they channel the optimism of youth, sprinkle in the spice of early insight into life's lessons, super-charge it with jolt of pop and the sass of country. No wonder Linda Wilson, President of the Texas Country Music Association, describes them as “one of the best up-and-coming young artist duos out there.” And following their live appearance on “Great Day Houston” in March 2019, KHOU-TV proclaimed, “Wild Fire are setting the music world ablaze.” This fire was kindled in Houston, where their parents spotted Kelli's and Kayla's talent when they were barely old enough to sing along to Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Sam Hunt, FGL and other radio favorites. When each girl was 6 years old she began studying with celebrated vocal coach Pamela Moore. Both also learned to play guitar, with Kelli doubling on drums. They took to songwriting quickly and naturally and learned how to transfer their energy and creativity to numerous live theater and dance productions. A police officer outside Houston fatally shot a woman during a scuffle over a Taser at an apartment complex late Monday, authorities said. The incident was captured on social media and circulated overnight, CBS Houston affiliate KHOU-TV reported. In the video, the woman can be heard shouting "I'm pregnant" multiple times before she is shot. Baytown Police Lt. Steve Dorris on Tuesday afternoon identified the woman as Pamela Turner and said his department has confirmed Turner was not pregnant. However I thhink we should do our own investigation on that fact. He didn't immediately respond to questions from CBS News over whether the determination was made through an autopsy. However, family members told KHOU that Turner was not pregnant. Turner's niece told the station the woman had mental health issues and had had prior run-ins with Baytown police. Dorris earlier said an officer on patrol saw the 45-year-old Turner, whom the officer had encountered before. He knew the woman had outstanding warrants, so he approached her to arrest her. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bj-murphy9/support
