Tonight's After Dark is like a blast from the past because Seanán just won't shut up! But within his ramblings we pay our respects to Nintendo's golden goose Super Mario in honor of Mar10 Day! We just passed Mar10 Day this week, and that got us thinking about all the times console makers have thought, "Hey! What if WE had a cute, highly marketable face to sell OUR hardware?" We'll take a look at five of the least successful attempts at machine-exclusive mascots this week, after which we'll get into WWE 2k25 and Wanderstop, share updated thoughts on Monster Hunter Wilds and Suikoden I & II HD Remaster, and hear which games you think should have a Nemesis System of their own. Question of the Week: Do you have a persistent regret about a game (i.e., did you finish a game the "wrong" way, miss a piece of a story, make a bad decision, etc., that you've never gotten around to correcting)? Another March 10th has come and gone, bringing with it a slew of new Mario-related announcements from Nintendo. These include new NSO games, two release dates for upcoming titles, Lego sets, and confirmation of a sequel to the Super Mario Bros movie! Additionally, there is a plethora of new awards and nominations for Nintendo from both the BAFTAs and Famitsu. While Nintendo may be rounding out the end of the Switch era with some remasters and remakes, there's still a brand-new game on the horizon: Princess Peach Showtime. The crew is back in the latest episode of the GVGCast to chat about those leaked PS5 Pro specs, MAR10 Day's myriad announcements, MultiVersus' upcoming relaunch, and more, including topics suggested by our wonderful Patrons!

We start off this episode by remembering Akira Toriyama and all of his contributions to gaming and anime. Happy MAR10 Day! Several Mario themed announcements were made, such as adding more Mario games to Nintendo Switch Online, and bringing some Gamecube and 3DS titles to Switch, and a LEGO Mario Kart set (a building set, not a video game) coming in 2025. However, earlier this week Nintendo and the Yuzu emulator team settled for $2.4 million, shutting down the emulator team that worked on Yuzu and Citra for the 3DS. Warner Bros Discovery has informed independent developers that published through Adult Swim Games that their games will be delisted, and the publisher has informed them that they will just delete the Steam pages rather than do the three clicks to transfer ownership to the indie developers. (The indie developers still own the IP and can republish, starting from scratch.) Then we talk to Rob about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and why I'm now burned out on it.

Akira Toriyama passed away at 68 on March 1, leaving behind a rich legacy of iconic manga, anime, and (largely dragon-themed) videogames.
