Stars Are Right | Call of Cthulhu TTRPG actual-play podcast

Dear listeners,    It is with hearts filled with sadness and gratitude that we must announce the end of our journey. After a pretty amazing few years, the Stars Are Right podcast (and publishing) will be winding down over the next month or two.   Don't worry, we're still aiming to finish the scenario we're currently playing, though there might be one or two changes to the cast. The plan is for the last few episodes to continue to broadcast on their current schedule, and to stop going up in September at the conclusion of Dances of Vice, Horror, and Ecstasy.    There was a slight delay in editing episode 22, so our Berlin campaign will resume next week - apologies! In the meantime, please enjoy a little side adventure coming your way this week.   We're very sad we won't be able to round off our campaign with the third scenario from Berlin: The Wicked City as we originally intended, but an awful lot has changed in many of our lives over the last few months. Some of it has been great, some not so great, and we've definitely reached the end of our ability to make the show as we have been.   Once the podcast wraps up, it will remain online for the foreseeable future - on all the platforms you're currently using to listen for as long as we can afford it, and hopefully on Patreon longer than that.   To assist with that, all the bonus Patreon content and Beyond the Madness episodes will, from September, be made available at a single, low-cost tier intended to pay for ongoing podcast and website hosting costs. All proceeds beyond those running costs will be donated to the charity Hope Not Hate. If you were intending to buy merch at some point then you might want to act quickly - we're not sure how long it'll continue to be available, when it's gone it's gone! You can find links at starsareright.com and in the episode notes.   We're infinitely grateful for all of your support up to this point. You've helped turn what started as a wild pandemic lock-down dream into a project that's spanned years of games, multiple bestselling publications, and a truly amazing community. We're honestly amazed at how far we've come, so pleased with what we've made, and delighted it's been enjoyed by so many lovely people!   Speaking of community, once things wrap up our discord server will be run by Jayson and Lydia as admins, and we hope will continue to be a lovely, friendly place to chat with fellow listeners and horror RPG fans, and even run your own games. If you're not already on there, do drop by and say hi!   Stars Are Right may be ending, but in order to keep on bringing you the Call of Cthulhu content that we all love, Jayson and Lydia are developing a new podcast together. This will feature some familiar Stars Are Right voices, brand new scenario actual-plays, talk-show panels and much more - including a playthrough of Jayson's upcoming Miskatonic Repository scenario, The Bride of Pendle. The new podcast's team will share more details and links as soon as they are able.   We hope you've enjoyed the ride, and continue to enjoy the remainder of our adventures. Thanks again from all of us, and may the omens be ever in your favour.   Love from the Stars Are Right Founders, Phaedra, Braydon and Howl   Website | Patreon | Merch | Discord

If you're interested in playing it with your group, you can find it here: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/335432/Rising-from-the-Stars-Pamphlet-Adventure Call of Cthulhu is a TTRPG system based on the cosmic horror genre of literature, often associated with H.P. Lovecraft. For the last 40 years, Sandy Petersen and the folks at Chaosium have been improving and expanding the game, letting players use the Basic Roleplaying system to confront the unknown. Unlike other TTRPGs, players in Call of Cthulhu take the roles of regular people in over their heads against powerful beings that they can barely even fathom. Interested in playing? For those who don't know, Bridgett is an amazing, and amazingly fun person.  She's a podcast host, streamer, writer, and a community ambassador for Chaosium.      We talk about what got us started in gaming, how we got interested in horror gaming specifically, some tips on running horror games, and have a whole lotta laughs in the process.  *ALSO CORRECTION*  The Delta Green scenario talked about is actually called "Last Things Last" and is included in the Delta Green quickstart, which is called "Need to Know".      If you're interested in hearing or seeing more of Bridgett's work she can be found on the Miskatonic University Podcast -- http://www.mu-podcast.com/ , or links to her streaming, etc can be found at the Symphony Entertainment website -- https://www.symphonyentertainment.com/ . Lovecraft. For the last 40 years, Sandy Petersen and the folks at Chaosium have been improving and expanding the game, letting players use the Basic Roleplaying system to confront the unknown. Campus Crier The Campus Crier is where we keep all the mythos related news and info for the podcast, this episode was recorded on September 23, 2021.  The Ennies just wrapped up their awards for 2021, and a huge congratulations to all of the nominees winners. We'd like to send a special congratulations to Andrew Gaska and everyone at FLP for three ENnie Awards for their Alien: The RPG campaign, Destroyer of Worlds. In celebration of their 40th Anniversary, Chaosium recently released their Call of Cthulhu 40th Anniversary Keeper Rulebook. This limited edition release features a new black and red leatherette cover and dust jacket design. Additional material includes personal accounts by some of the early creators and contributors to the game and the re-inclusion of the classic scenario 'The Haunting.” Advance copies sold out at GenCon and it looks like they'll be arriving at Origins Game Fair as well! The official release date is October 2021.  Bridgett is stoked to be joining the main cast of Ain't Slayed Nobody's podcast for Y'all of Cthulhu Season Two. Campus Crier The Campus Crier is where we keep all the mythos related news and info for the podcast, this episode was recorded on October 10th, 2020.  Our friend and editor of the show, Edwin, is involved in the Midderland 5e setting Kickstarter! The book is a setting and bestiary for the “green-hued dark-fantasy” based on middle England. Edwin did the 5e conversion for the setting and Ennie Award winning artist, Glynn Seal is the primary author, artist, and layout artist. I've seen the 11 page teaser PDF and it looks really quite cool. You can get a PDF for $25, $35 for a POD softcover, and $45 will get you a hardback with an amazing fold out map. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/necromancergames/midderlands-setting-and-bestiary-for-fifth-edition/description There is a PDF “taster” available here: https://1drv.ms/b/s!Asryxq7YIiBZhtYMcbTPSbPWDiKf9Q?e=0fsfef Good Friend of Jackson Elias and all round awesome guy Paul Fricker has a new scenario for Call of Cthulhu out in the Miskatonic Repository called Full Fathom Five, a reference to Shakespeare's Ariel's song. It is set on board a whaling ship in the Pacific ocean in 1847 and involves a series of deaths or murders on board. Some of our own illustrious members, past and present, have played this as playtesters including Keepers Dan & Chad, Editor Max and a whole slew of other people we know and love. It looks really fantastic, so go and check it out. You can get the PDF at DriveThru for $6.99 Mork Bork and the Swedish Kartel are releasing an LP! Putrescence Regnant is billed an “ear-shattering, rot reeking bog crawl for Mork Borg.” A little more info was leaked with the cryptic announcement at the Mork Borg Discord server of which we have a screenshot in the show notes. Cyberpunk Red, Mike Pondsmith's iconic dystopian sci-fi RPG, finally has a release date and a price point! Cyberpunk Red will come in at $60 for the physical book and $30 for the PDF, and should come out on November 19th and Nov 14th for the digital. Thanks to a data dump at the R. Talorisian website, we know the book has 457 pages and 211,000 words and 143 individual pieces of art! Murph is excited about this one. Brett Kramer's Sentinel Hill Press has finally re-released The Dare, that fantastic CoC scenario that we all love, and updated it for 7th edition! You can pick it up at DTRPG for $14.99, and that price will be discounted from the eventual price of a physical book that is also coming out soon! Congrats to Brett for getting this all wrapped up! Sunken the gm-less RPG using Trophy Dark, of which I am a backer, is at the printers! I'm really excited about this and can't wait to have this book in hand, because the PDF was absolutely gorgeous. Arkham Relic Hunt from Squamous Studios, something else that Dave and Murph have backed, is about to ship out within days of this recording. Children of Fear, a new Call of Cthulhu campaign set in classic 1920s mentioned way back in 2019 is finally getting some updates from Chaosium! Lynne Hardy's campaign across Asia will come out early 2021 and is 416 pages long. The cover was released through all of their social media outlets.  A DG hack of Cthulhu Dark called Cthulhu Deep Green has been released on DTRPG and it looks really quite cool. The latest scenario that was just released and is called The Linear Men. You can get both of these from DTRPG and both have a POD option that at the time of recording was $12 & $15 each, so a pretty good deal. And I'm a sucker for Cthulhu Dark clones and so I've already bought Deep Green and it is pretty awesome. Miskatonic University Podcast | Interviews, actual play, and discussion about Call of Cthulhu and other horror and Lovecraft

In the final episode of 2019, Keepers Jon, Dan, & Murph bid a fond and scathing farewell to Keeper Chad. Campus Crier The Campus Crier is Miskatonic U's student paper. This is where we keep all the Mythos-related news and feedback to the podcast. This episode was recorded on December 16, 2019. Chaosium has released the fourth and last installment of their organised play campaign, Flotsam & Jetsam, for Call of Cthulhu. “On the Banks of the Ohio” has already been released to Cult of Chaos members on the BRP Central forums. Hunters Entertainment and Paradox Interactive has teamed up for Werewolf: The Apocalypse 5th Edition. They are hoping for a 2021 release and the project will be marketed and distributed by Renegade Games. Alien the Roleplaying Game is officially out! It looks amazing. It's definitely worth checking out. The Fall semester at Taylor University came to a close today, and Refractions of Glasston is now available to download for free at the Miskatonic Repository, Chaosium's Call of Cthulhu community content resource at DriveThruRPG. Refractions of Glasston is the result of a creative collaboration between the Professional Writing department at Taylor University, Upland IN and Chaosium Inc. The creators are all students at Taylor University. Though many of the team are members of the professional writing major, this is their first foray into the world of RPG writing. With help and advice provided by Chaosium's Mike Mason and Lynne Hardy, these writers, editors, and RPG enthusiasts set out to create a unique adventure for Call of Cthulhu fans to enjoy.  Dead Light is back, with two “unsettling” encounters on the road...DEAD LIGHT AND OTHER DARK TURNS contains two scenarios dealing with the theme of roadside adventure, along with six story seeds for the Keeper to expand and develop.  In the classic 'Dead Light' scenario, now revised, a chance encounter with a distressed young woman leads the investigators into the hideous aftermath of a crime gone terribly wrong. While in the brand-new 'Saturnine Chalice' scenario, seeking help from a nearby homeowner after their vehicle runs out of gas traps the investigators in a house where nothing is quite what it seems. Available in PDF now from Chaosium.com, with print to follow (buy the PDF direct and get the full price of the PDF off the print version when it is released) From Arc Dream Publishing: Delta Green: The Labyrinth is now available in PDF. If you're a Kickstarter backer, log in to your account and download your copy. If you missed the Kickstarter you can either purchase the PDF from DriveThruRPG or pre-order the hardback and receive the PDF now for free. They anticipate hardbacks to begin shipping to customers some time in January. There's a link in the show notes to a whole newsletter with other news from Arc Dream.  Nine episodes of the The Whisperer in Darkness program on BBC are available, with Episode nine having dropped on Dec. 16.  And lastly, the Yellow King RPG which was kickstarted by Pelgrane Press is finally in the hands of backers. Campus Crier Jon talked about Robert Bloch’s story, Black Bargin’, in our previous episode, which centered on a malevolent shadow -- well, he has created a new spell and a new monster based on that shadow creature for Call of Cthulhu, and I call it Shade of Yog-Sothoth. It’s available now from the Miskatonic Repository.  Dave Heath has a blog, called “Dave’s Corner of the Universe,” and in a pair of recent posts he talks about the “Final Girl” movie trope. Dave’s blog talks about how to introduce a “Final Girl” occupation into your Call of Cthulhu game: https://davescorneroftheuniverse.wordpress.com/2019/10/29/final-girl-trope-for-coc-7e/ Old Gods of Appalachia is a Lovecraftian horror anthology podcast. Long before anyone lived in those hills, beings of immeasurable darkness and incomprehensible madness were entombed beneath them. Old Gods of Appalachia is set in an alternate, (or shadow), Appalachia. An upside-down Appalachia, if you will. This is an anthology podcast of original weird short stories set in this alternate version of the Appalachia.  Chaosium has announced a contest for a new logo for the Cult of Chaos! They are looking for a logo that will pay homage to each of Chaosium’s current main RPG lines. The winner will be given a contract from Chaosium and a sub-license for it to be used for Cult of Chaos properties. Oh and $60. We have links in the show notes. “Gateways to Terrors - Three Evenings of Nightmare” was just released by Chaosium. The book contains three short scenarios that were originally designed to be run as demonstration games of Call of Cthulhu. The included scenarios are: The Necropolis, by Leigh Carr, The Dead Boarder, by Todd Gardiner, and What’s in the Cellar, by me. I have a copy, and I can attest that it looks amazing! Shout out to Matt Ryan who did the maps and handouts, I know for my scenario, he did a fantastic job making them look amazing for both the Keeper and the players.  MU Discord server invite link: https://discord.gg/vNjEv9D And thank you so much to Max for editing this episode. Listening Room The Listening Room is closed for renovation today. Sheets of newsprint have been taped to the inside of the windows, and while several undefined shadows can still be seen skulking about in an oddly flickering light, there are no sounds coming from in there. None. In fact, if you get too close to the windows, you’ll even stop hearing any sounds. Even the sound of your own breath, or the trepidatious scuffling of your feet against institutional carpeting...   Main Topic A new edition of Malleus Monstorum - is in the works! Do nagrania odcinka o Stefanie Ossowieckim, jednej z najsłynniejszych postaci międzywojennego okultyzmu w Polsce, skłoniła mnie nowa publikacja w Miskatonic Repository.
