Welcome to season 2 episode 11 of the Timist Podcast Series - check out the show notes below for this part 2 of a 2 part series:We kick things off with the famous toothpick incident - the one that managed to ruffle feathers at none other than Patek Philippe. From there we dive into a rich discussion on natural talent vs. learned skill, especially when it comes to people management in high end luxury.Of course since we're talking watches, the topic of investment vs. passion and depreciation had to be explored, but we also learn how Kelly navigates conversations with clients who sometimes prioritize profits rather than craftsmanship. We also explore the gender gap in the watch world, and hear a touching story about her grandfather, and the very personal and heartfelt reason behind her choice on what she drives today. To close things out Kelly shares how she continues to learn within the horological space, and offers advice for both newcomers and seasoned watch collectors alike.Check out Kelly's Instagram:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kelly_yochCheck out One More Wave:https://onemorewave.com INSTAGRAM:Follow me:https://www.instagram.com/the_timist_IGSupport the showSUBSCRIBE TO MY YOUTUBE:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBeDf0c0V70qISfpu_mHchw?sub_confirmation=1CONTINUE THE CONVERSATION ON INSTAGRAM:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the_timist_IG

Tonight's guests are Joe Jackson and Jose Martinez — two friends from One More Wave, a non-profit that I've supported since 2018. Joe is a former US Navy corpsman with 1st Marine Division who completed a combat deployment to Fallujah, Iraq, between 2006 and 2007. Joe discusses his amazing family lineage of military service, his experiences as a corpsman in combat, and how surf therapy has impacted his road to recovery. Jose is a former US Army soldier who suffered a catastrophic injury after stepping on an IED during a combat deployment to Afghanistan in 2012. At 23-years-old, Jose has to adjust to life as a triple amputee. These days, you can find Jose and Joe competing and winning Gold Medals as a team in para-surf competitions. As far as history goes, we also dive into the fascinating story of how the Paralympics came to be and how veterans of World War II helped bring the games into fruition. We discuss the history of prosthetic limbs dating back to the American Civil War and Jose provides a modern perspective from his own experiences. Joe also shares some interesting facts about west coast watermen and, in particular, swim fins. Naturally, these topics lead us down many glorious rabbit holes including about the San Diego Bottom Scratchers and frogmen from the Underwater Demolition Teams (predecessors to today's US Navy SEALs). Today on the Matt Walsh Show, a pansexual teacher is fired in Florida for discussing sexuality with her kids. Was the school justified? Of course it was, but we'll discuss. Also, Joe Biden claims that the right to kill babies comes from God. Dr. Oz is called out for his pro-abortion views during the GOP primary debate in Pennsylvania. Dave Chapelle is assaulted on stage during a comedy show. This is becoming a trend. NASA scientists sexually harass ET with unsolicited nudes. And in our Daily Cancellation, we'll deal with what might be the dumbest and most morally debased argument in favor of abortion that we've heard from the left since the Supreme Court news broke. We'll talk about all of that and more today on the Matt Walsh Show. This is Superlative: A Podcast about watches, the people behind them, and the worlds that inspire them. This week our host Ariel Adams is joined by Alex West, the founder of the Non-Profit Organization “One More Wave”. They start the show talking about the genesis of One More Wave, his “Aha!” moment while surfing that led to the initial idea, and how he used graphic design and his willingness to give his pitch to anyone that would listen to get it off of the ground. They talk about his background in the Navy, how they prepare you for civilian life afterwards in the career field, and how his time and experience contributed to One More Wave. They discuss the importance of gear in the military, how a lot of Navy Seals were obsessed with tweaking their gear, and how important a capable and functioning watch like a G-Shock is in the field. Alex and Ariel dig deeper into how surfing plays a major role in the work they do with disabled veterans through “Surf Therapy”, and how they make world-class surfboards for those veterans. They end the show talking about Alex's partnership with Ulysse-Nardin, how they co-branded a One More Wave Dive Watch for them, and how that has helped out the organization. To stay updated with all the work that One More Wave is doing, and to check out previous ABTW articles on One More Wave:- Instagram @1MWave - https://www.instagram.com/1mwave- Website - https://www.onemorewave.com/- YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/1mwave- ABTW - https://www.ablogtowatch.com/one-more-wave-at-the-end-of-the-world-with-ulysse-nardin-watches/- ABTW - https://www.ablogtowatch.com/ulysse-nardin-diver-deep-dive-one-more-wave-limited-edition-watch/To check out the ABTW Shop where you can see our products inspired by our love of Horology:- Shop ABTW - https://store.ablogtowatch.com/To keep updated with everything Superlative and aBlogtoWatch, check us out on:- Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/ablogtowatch/- Twitter - https://twitter.com/ABLOGTOWATCH- Website - https://www.ablogtowatch.com/If you enjoy the show please Subscribe, Rate, and Review!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

This week we welcome Judy Weaver, founder of Connected Warriors.  In 2007, Judy met Beau MacVane, an Army Ranger that after five tours in Iraq was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).  Beau asked Judy to teach him yoga so he could stay as strong and connected to his body as humanly possible as he fought his terminal illness.  Over the next several years Judy watched as Beau battled his disease,  and was amazed by how he was able to use her instruction, and his determination, to battle the decline of his physical body. After Beau's passing, Judy was determined to continue to help America's war-fighters, and Connected Warriors was born.  Connected Warriors provides yoga instruction to veterans, with a focus on the specific needs of military members and first responders.  Their mission is to elevate the warriors in our community by engaging them in a process of healing, growth and change in ways that benefit themselves, their families and the community.  Connected Warriors acts as a leading advocate for veterans, active duty military, and veteran services with local, state, and the federal government.  Whether it is teaching yoga instructors the unique needs of this diverse community, or providing an environment welcoming to the veteran mentality, Judy's prime objective is to help each participant better their mental and physical lives.  So kick off your shoes, lay out your yoga mat, and get into Warrior One with this week's interviewFor more information about Connect Warriors go to connectedwarriors.orgThere is still time to sign up for the Bulletproof Veteran 5k on July 10th.  All proceeds benefiting One More Wave.  In-person, virtual, 1-mile fun walk, and donation options available.  Go to bulletproofveteran.com and register today.

James 1:12 Today we talk to our Naval Academy classmate, Dan Cnossen, who has an incredible story and will motivate us all. Dan Cnossen was serving as the platoon commander for SEAL Team One in Afghanistan in September 2009 when he stepped on an IED (improvised explosive device) and was wounded in the explosion. The accident caused Cnossen to lose both of his legs just above the knee. He went through rehabilitation first at the Bethesda National Naval Medical Center and later at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center where he learned to walk with his new prosthetics. Dan was awarded both a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star with Valor from the Secretary of the Navy for his service in combat. We talk about how Dan recovered from this life changing injury, how he pivoted and became a Paralympian to compete in the 2014 and 2018 winter games, winning the Gold Medal in the Biathalon in 2018 winter games, how he sets goals and the actionable steps to get there, how he has become a huge influence for other wounded warriors by telling his story, and how he continues to serve through multiple platforms, to include non-profit organizations like One More Wave and Classroom Champions, and working with the for-profit organization O2X to help other military and first responders with resilience training.
