Can you all tell that I'm fed up? Welcome back to the Schauer Thoughts, this week we're going to be a real pain in the behind to some massive corporations and *of course* the government - they have TRULY deserved this. For too long the healthcare system has proposed a “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” approach to health and wellness, but I ask y'all this, if it doesn't work for the economy, why would it work for your health? Is that to say that we should all give up completely and stop taking care of ourselves? No. However, I am saying that we need to cut ourselves, everyone, neighbors, friends, etc. A LOT of slack. We are living in a polluted, corrupt hellscape and there's only so much one can do to fight constant, all-consuming, non-consensual toxins. Eat what you want, be who you want, stick it to the man, have some semblance of fun. In this powerful episode of Harder Than Life, Kelly Siegel sits down with Benny Salas for a raw conversation about trauma, voice, identity, and what it really takes to step into your purpose. Benny shares deeply personal stories of childhood abuse, shame, addiction, and silence—and how reclaiming his voice became the foundation for healing, leadership, and legacy. Together, Kelly and Benny break down why most people don't fear public speaking—they fear judgment, rejection, and being fully seen. This episode explores authenticity over performance, confidence built through clarity, and why your story isn't your weakness—it's your assignment. Key Takeaways

Send us a textThe transformation of Washington City from farming fields to a strategically developed urban center is unfolding before our eyes. Economic Development Director Rusty Hughes reveals the careful balancing act required to maintain the city's unique character while addressing the economic realities of growth. When we think about local development, we rarely consider the financial mechanics behind municipal decisions. For every residential property built in Washington City, local government spends $1.30-$1.60 in services for each dollar collected in revenue. This simple fact explains why Washington City, after two decades of being 98% residential permits, is now actively pursuing high-value commercial development along the I-15 corridor.Rusty shares fascinating insights about projects reshaping the landscape: ARA Southwest Logistics, the largest industrial development in Washington County history; WinCo's long-awaited arrival at Exit 11 after eight years of searching for the perfect location; and plans for a walkable downtown core that will give Washington City its own unique gathering place. Each project is strategically positioned to generate revenue, create jobs, and reduce the number of residents who must commute elsewhere for work and shopping.Perhaps most compelling is Hughes' perspective as both an economic developer and a 20-year resident who raised her children in Washington City. Her journey from military service to economic development illustrates the diverse backgrounds bringing expertise to municipal government. She emphasizes how community engagement shapes development decisions, inviting residents to follow projects on the city's interactive map at WashingtonCity.org/ed. Hal Leonard, the world's largest sheet music and music education publisher, and music innovators Muse Group, launch MuseClass, an assignment, grading, and music content platform set to transform instrumental teaching (grade 6-12) in the U.S. MuseClass allows music educators and band directors to share, collect, and grade assignments on an easy-to-use platform, which also contains a curated library of educational content. Students receive assignments through the MuseClass app (available on iOS, Android & Chromebook), and can submit their progress as video or audio recordings, or upload worksheets. One notable MuseClass feature is AutoGrade, the AI-powered practice tool. This pioneering technology listens to a student's performance and provides immediate feedback on timing and pitch, even for polyphonic instruments like piano or guitar. The tool can inspire students to repeat their practice sessions, or a teacher can set an AutoGrade challenge as an assignment. At launch, MuseClass includes free digital content from Hal Leonard's iconic Essential Elements, the gold-standard curriculum for bands and strings in the U.S. now available in concert with next-generation digital tools for the first time. The content library is set to rapidly expand in the coming school year with pedagogical scores and method books drawn from Hal Leonard's exclusively licensed, premium arrangements — current titles span everything from Taylor Swift and The Beatles to John Williams and Disney soundtracks. Teachers can also compose their own exercises or worksheets with MuseScore Studio, Muse Group's award-winning, intuitive notation software. The platform is completely free for all schools until August 1 2025 and will continue to be developed with close feedback from music educators. In year two, MuseClass remains free for teachers, with a $15.99 annual cost per student and custom offerings for school districts. MuseClass marks the first major release since Hal Leonard joined digital-content and technology leader Muse Group last year, with a shared vision to provide unparalleled access to the best resources to music makers worldwide. The new MuseClass reworks a Muse Group prototype, which is transformed with the addition of Hal Leonard's content catalog and unparalleled 70 years of experience collaborating with U.S. educators. The AutoGrade tool within MuseClass is the next step in the evolution of Muse Group's machine learning listening technology. In September 2023, the iPad app StaffPad launched ‘Piano Capture,' a feature that hears real piano performances and converts them into readable sheet music — technology recently spotlighted in Apple's M4 chiplaunch. In January 2024, the same capability was deployed in Ultimate Guitar's Practice Mode, extending this breakthrough technology to millions of digital music makers. Now in MuseClass' AutoGrade, a whole generation of young learners can enjoy the benefits of practicing and improving instrumental skills with AI-guidance. In the future, the MuseClass feature set and content library is set to expand based on the evolving needs of U.S. teachers — including print offerings for band leaders and Google Classroom integration. MuseClass software for Kindergarten to Grade 6 educators and for regions outside the U.S. is also coming soon. MuseClass is available now, and completely free to get started in 2024.

Today, I am blessed to have Daniel Trevor here with me. He is a citizen scientist and serial entrepreneur who has created several start-up businesses, including a high-tech CTI (computer-telephony integration) company that grew to over 300 employees. He also created and marketed anti-aging products and produced TV & Radio infomercials, hiring celebrities as spokespersons, as well as hosting some himself. Daniel also spent time as a real estate investor and developer, a financial newsletter writer & analyst, as well as a professional day trader of precious metal mining and gas & oil stocks. Being familiar with analyzing technical data throughout his life, he was comfortable taking a dive into medical and nutritional science to reverse his heart disease after a surprising heart attack. Lean and symptom-free, he thought he was "Mr. Healthy." In reality, he was an undiagnosed Type 2 diabetic, which was the cause of his undiagnosed heart disease, fatty liver disease, and osteoporosis. Using the research in his How-to book, he was able to reverse all four silent conditions. Daniel describes himself as "just a lower-class street kid from Philly," is the Founder & CEO of NutraNuva Anti-Aging Science, has two beautiful daughters, and lives in Southern California. In this episode, we dive into metabolic health, dissecting prevalent myths surrounding diet, plaque formation, and cardiovascular health. Daniel underscores the necessity of distinguishing between different types of plaque, shedding light on the dangers of soft plaque. He critiques historical dietary recommendations and advocates for a reevaluation based on scientific evidence. Lifestyle factors such as smoking and diet are explored in their detrimental effects on arterial health, with a particular focus on the impact of high fructose corn syrup. Challenging conventional wisdom, Daniel redefines the role of cholesterol, emphasizing nuanced assessments and the importance of comprehensive testing. He also addresses profit-driven motives in healthcare decisions, advocating for informed choices.
