Equine skin problems can stem from a wide range of causes, including parasites, bacterial or fungal infections, allergies, and prolonged exposure to moisture or irritants. Successfully managing horses with skin problems relies on working with your veterinarian to identify the underlying issue and appropriately treat it. Because many dermatologic conditions can look similar in the early stages, it's important to have the veterinarian evaluate your horse promptly to help prevent complications and improve outcomes. During this episode, veterinarians answer your questions about common equine skin problems. This episode is brought to you by Creative Science. Meet the Experts: Julia Miller, DVM, Dipl. ACVD, was equine-focused in veterinary school at Cornell University, in Ithaca, New York, and completed a rotating large animal internship at the University of Georgia, in Athens, after graduation. She then went on to be a mixed animal general practitioner for several years before finding her true love, dermatology, and heading back to Cornell for her residency. She now practices in the beautiful land of the bluegrass in Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky and loves working on all creatures great and small!Carly Turner-Garcia, DVM, Dipl. ACT, spent her earlier years working in exotic and small animal veterinary medicine before finding her passion for horses during undergraduate studies at Berry College, in Mount Berry, Georgia. She graduated from The University of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine, in Athens, continued to an internship at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, and a residency in theriogenology at Texas A&M University, in College Station, where she earned her Dipl. ACT. She spent the next 10 years in private practice in Weatherford, Texas, and Guthrie, Oklahoma, seeing everything from critical neonatal cases to orthopedic emergencies with a heavy caseload of advanced reproduction. She recently joined the team at Creative Science as a technical services veterinarian while operating her own practice, Black Type Equine, focusing on advanced equine reproduction throughout the U.S. Her biggest joy comes from spending time with her husband, Taylor Garcia, PhD, and their two boys on their ranch in Oklahoma raising cattle, Quarter Horses, and working dogs.

Growing up on his grandfather's ranch in Montana, horses have been an integral part of Kip's life from the beginning. After graduating college with a Bachelor's of Science degree with an emphasis in livestock production management, Kip went to work on several large cattle ranches. It was during this time that he first met Buck Brannaman. Buck showed Kip that the horse had more to offer if you presented the information to him so he could understand it. Kip began riding with Buck at every chance he got, and incorporated this new way of interacting with horses into his daily ranch work. In 1996, Buck offered Kip a job working with him and travelling to his clinics. Kip graciously accepted and traveled with Buck for the next five  years.Since 2003, Kip has been bringing the knowledge and experience he gained while working for Buck to the horses he rides for the public. His clients come from all over the country and include everything from Quarter Horses and Warmbloods to mules and draft horses. The solid foundation Kip gives to each horse has readied them for careers as everything from dependable trail horses to working ranch horses to FEI dressage horses. Kip started conducting his own clinics in 2004 at the request of several clients, and he now offers clinics suitable for any level or discipline of rider. After residing for 14 years in the Midwest, Kip has now relocated back to Montana and is currently riding horses for the public there as well as conducting clinics all over the United States.

Stewart Alsop interviews Tomas Yu, CEO and founder of Turn-On Financial Technologies, on this episode of the Crazy Wisdom Podcast. They explore how Yu's company is revolutionizing the closed-loop payment ecosystem by creating a universal float system that allows gift card credits to be used across multiple merchants rather than being locked to a single business like Starbucks. The conversation covers the complexities of fintech regulation, the differences between open and closed loop payment systems, and Yu's unique background that combines Korean martial arts discipline with Mexican polo culture. They also dive into Yu's passion for polo, discussing the intimate relationship between rider and horse, the sport's elitist tendencies in different regions, and his efforts to build polo communities from El Paso to New Mexico. Turn-On Technologies is revolutionizing payment systems through behavioral finance by creating a decentralized "float" system. Unlike traditional gift cards that lock customers into single merchants like Starbucks, Turn-On allows universal credit that works across their entire merchant ecosystem. This addresses the massive gift card market where companies like Starbucks hold billions in customer funds that can only be used at their locations.2. The financial industry operates on an exclusionary "closed loop" versus "open loop" system that creates significant friction and fees. Closed loop systems keep money within specific ecosystems without conversion to cash, while open loop systems allow cash withdrawal but trigger heavy regulation. Every transaction through traditional payment processors like Stripe can cost merchants 3-8% in fees, representing a massive burden on businesses.3. Point-of-sale systems function as the financial bloodstream and credit scoring mechanism for businesses. These systems track all card transactions and serve as the primary data source for merchant lending decisions. The gap between POS records and bank deposits reveals cash transactions that businesses may not be reporting, making POS data crucial for assessing business creditworthiness and loan risk.4. Traditional FinTech professionals often miss obvious opportunities due to ego and institutional thinking. Yu encountered resistance from established FinTech experts who initially dismissed his gift card-focused approach, despite the trillion-dollar market size. The financial industry's complexity is sometimes artificially maintained to exclude outsiders rather than serve genuine regulatory purposes.5. The information age is creating a fundamental divide between curious, resourceful individuals and those stuck in credentialist systems. With AI and LLMs amplifying human capability, people who ask the right questions and maintain curiosity will become exponentially more effective. Meanwhile, those relying on traditional credentials without underlying curiosity will fall further behind, creating unprecedented economic and social divergence.6. Polo serves as a powerful business metaphor and relationship-building tool that mirrors modern entrepreneurial challenges. Like mixed martial arts evolved from testing individual disciplines, business success now requires being competent across multiple areas rather than excelling in just one specialty. The sport also creates unique networking opportunities and teaches valuable lessons about partnership between human and animal.7. International financial systems reveal how governments use complexity and capital controls to maintain power over citizens. Yu's observations about Argentina's financial restrictions and the prevalence of cash economies in Latin America illustrate how regulatory complexity often serves political rather than protective purposes, creating opportunities for alternative financial systems that provide genuine value to users.

Season 5, EPISODE 253 Blue Roan Quarter Horses For Sale: Superior Bloodlines, Disposition, and Conformation For over 77 years, the Froelich Legacy Quarter Horse program has been dedicated to raising Quarter Horses with the kind of conformation, color, and disposition that make them stand out in any setting. From ranch work to the show pen, our horses are bred to perform with steady minds, strong builds, and eye-catching color. Breeding Legacy: Blue Roans Before They Were Cool Our roan program began with the AQHA stallion McKeag, whose influence established us as respected breeders of rare and beautiful Blue Roans. McKeag's legacy continues through his son FQHR McLovin, who has proven to pass on an even stronger disposition than his sire. Customers often remark that McLovin foals are “born broke” with a natural work ethic—colts and fillies that simply need to be taught the buttons.  Our Current Stallions FQHR McLovin – A direct McKeag son carrying forward his sire's stamp with even more disposition and trainability. His foals are known for their honest minds and ability to go straight to work. Siring horses that have excelled in versatility and having sired a 6-time world champion in roping.  FQHR Conagher – A younger stallion quickly making his mark. His foals show outstanding conformation, muscle definition, and personable, loving natures that make them a joy to raise. LHR Smart Sugar Boon – A powerful performance cross on foundation blood. His pedigree ties back to legends like Peptoboonsmal and Smart Little Lena, bringing athleticism and cow sense while maintaining the kind of mind we demand in our program. Our focus today is on producing horses with balanced conformation, proven genetics, and minds that fit any rider. Whether for ranch work, arena competition, or simply a trusted partner to ride, Froelich Legacy Quarter Horses are bred to handle the job and look good doing it. Annual Quarter Horse Production Sale: 3rd Saturday of September The Froelich Legacy Quarter Horses program proudly offers Blue Roan Quarter Horses for sale each year during the annual production sale, traditionally held on the third Saturday in September. These horses are more than just beautiful—they bring together the ideal combination of athletic ability, trainability, and color that discerning buyers want. The breeding philosophy is simple: breed Quarter Horses we love to ride—selecting bloodlines from the greats to produce horses with the perfect balance of cow sense, athletic ability, and a steady temperament. Whether pulling calves to the branding iron, roping in the arena, or enjoying a relaxed evening trail ride, these colorful Quarter Horses continually prove their versatility. Contact Froelich Legacy Quarter Horses For more information about the Froelich Legacy Quarter Horses program and to learn how disposition, color, and conformation are top priority, CONTACT US TODAY or visit our website HERE! Cattle Industry News Livestock Market Report & Outlook From Dr. Andrew Griffith The latest livestock comments from Livestock Marketing Specialist Dr. Andrew Griffith who said prices were strong for every class of animal offered on the market, which tends to bring optimism to all involved.  This optimism leads to thoughts of expanding herd sizes to capitalize on the strong market.   He continued by saying fed cattle traded unevenly steady last week.  To put this market into perspective he asked the question, how many finished cattle does it take to purchase a new pickup truck? Assuming a 1,400-pound steer and an $80,000 pickup truck, it would take 23 head to have equal value. Using similar elementary math, it would have taken 27 head to purchase a similar yet slightly lower-priced truck in 2024, and it would have taken 25 to 26 head to purchase a similar pickup truck in 2021. This comparison means absolutely nothing other than the value of a finished steer has increased more than a pickup truck in relative terms. However, it is a rather small increase, relatively speaking. He wrapped up by saying how these relative prices change over time is not all that important. What is important is if cattle feeders are making money or not. Monthly cow prices in 2025 have climbed steadily, rising from $126 in January to a record $157/cwt in July, highlighting a strong and consistent upward trend throughout the year. For perspective, prices were just $62 in 2019, meaning values have surged $81/cwt over six years or a 131% increase. Looking further back, cow prices were $43 in 2003, rising steadily over the next decade to peak at $107 in 2014 and $103 in 2015. That historic run was followed by a multi-year downturn before the current rally pushed prices to unprecedented levels.  REFERENCES: https://www.nationalbeefwire.com/u-s-cattle-report New World Screwworm Soaring In Mexico Mexico's official count shows that New World screwworm is continuing to spread rapidly in the country, keeping the U.S. border closed to cattle imports and redirecting production to the Mexican packing industry. According to Mexican government data viewed earlier and cited by the Reuters news agency, Authorities had a tally of 5,086 cases through August 17, 53% more than July's total. The infestations were mostly afflicting cattle, though cases were also reported in sheep, horses and dogs. USDA last month reinstated a ban on Mexican livestock imports — the third halt since late 2024 to imports of cattle to U.S. feedlots and packers. The agency announced a $750-million sterile fly production facility in Texas to combat the flesh-eating parasite, which had been eradicated in North America for decades before a rapid march northward starting two years ago in Panama. In Texas alone, USDA estimates a screwworm outbreak could cost the state $1.8 billion in livestock deaths and other costs.
