“Hey Cory, what do you do?” I am a comedian, pharmacist, author, and speaker. With the eye for detail of a pharmacist and the mind of a comedian, I am out to help others challenge the conventions and PREscriptions holding them back while adapting to the unknown and living in the moment. All while getting some laughs along the way. Rewind to 2013, two years into my pharmacy career and there I was, struggling to adapt to the unscripted world of pharmacy and healthcare. On paper I had checked all of the boxes: perfect grades, residency, board certifications. But then I realized something was missing - the ability to create meaningful connections in the moment with those I cared for, and the ability to adapt and remain flexible. 2013 was the year I went to my first improv class and two simple words changed everything for me: "Yes, and." _____________ The Pennsylvania Pharmacists Care Network (PPCN) is pleased to announce that Dr. Rob Maher has been selected to serve as its new President and Chief Operating Officer (COO). Dr. Maher brings over 30 years of experience working in independent community pharmacy practice, ambulatory care pharmacy, long-term care pharmacy and hospital pharmacy. Dr. Maher has an extensive history with PPCN, since its formation in 2015. Dr. Maher has been actively involved in PPCN since by serving as a PPCN luminary, PPCN trainer and technology solution support lead for PioneerRX. Dr. Maher has also represented PPCN nationally, serving for the past three years as Chair of the Community Pharmacy Enhanced Services Network's (CPESN) Quality Assurance Committee. Most recently he has served as Director of Pharmacy Services for Klingensmith's Drugstore, a seven-store independent, family-owned chain of PPCN-member pharmacies located in Armstrong and Clarion counties. In this role, Dr. Maher lead the development, implementation, and growth of enhanced community pharmacy services across multiple locations. Through use of key performance indicators (KPIs), careful workflow considerations and by leaning into technology, Dr. Maher was able to position Klingensmith's to serve their communities while growing new business revenue. In addition to his practice experience, Dr. Maher has spent the past 25 years serving as a faculty member and administrative pharmacist at the Duquesne University School of Pharmacy. During this time, Dr. Maher has taught and inspired countless student pharmacists through didactic courses related to the fundamentals of pharmacy practice management, implementation of pharmacy services and business planning/entrepreneurship. Dr. Maher earned both his B.S. in Pharmacy ('93) and PharmD from the University of Pittsburgh ('97). In 1998, Dr Maher completed a Geriatric pharmacy specialized residency at Duke University's Center for the Study of Aging and the Durham Veteran's Affairs Geriatric Research Education Center. Growing up, Dr. Rob Maher worked in his family's community pharmacy in Patton, Pa. (Cambria County) that his father owned and operated for 47 years. In 2021, the business was sold to another independent pharmacy owner. Dr. Maher also was a pharmacy owner partner for Mission Pharmacy Services, a long-term care pharmacy. Dr. Maher will be taking over for Dr. Brandon Antinopoulos, the network's first President and COO. Dr. Antinopoulos is embarking on a new career path as an independent pharmacy owner. Current PPCN Executive Director, Stephanie McGrath, will remain in her role leading the network's program design, implementation, and evaluation efforts to advocate for the quality care provided by PPCN pharmacies. PPCN Director of Engagement, Kelsey Hake, will also remain in her role supporting payer program implementation, evaluation and quality assurance.

This special release season of the 2017 NIJ R&D Symposium of Just Science, funded by the National Institute of Justice’s Forensic Technology Center of Excellence [Award 2016-MU-BX-K110], interviews Dr. Rob Maher. Below is the abstract submitted where Dr. Rob Maher explains his research: Gunshot acoustics–interpretation of the characteristic sounds produced by firearms recorded at a crime scene–is a specialization within the audio forensics field. Audio forensic evidence is increasingly common in law enforcement investigations because of the growing availability of inexpensive and lightweight digital voice recorders and miniature personal digital video camera systems for routine law enforcement and surveillance use. An increasing number of cases involving gunshot sounds are being captured in these audio recordings. The acoustical characteristics of a firearm depend upon the type of gun and ammunition, the distance and azimuth with respect to the gun barrel, and the acoustical reflections and reverberation due to nearby surfaces and objects. For scientific study it is necessary to separate the direct sound of the muzzle blast from the acoustic reflections, echoes, and reverberation that depend upon the recording environment. We use an elevated array of twelve specialized microphones capable of capturing the high intensity and short duration of the firearm’s muzzle blast concurrently over 180 degrees in azimuth. Each microphone is recorded with 16-bit resolution at a 500 kHz sampling rate, and the elevated platform allows the entire muzzle blast to be recorded before the arrival of the first acoustical reflection from the ground. This presentation includes a description of the firearm recording technique, the characteristics observed from these scientific recordings, recommendations on the use and processing of our database of firearm acoustical recordings, and a discussion of future prospects for forensic gunshot acoustical analysis.

Today, we are joined by Rob Maher in studio! Plus, a new intern... sickness... Halloween fun... and a Mac update.
BIG ANNOUCEMENTS!!! Plus.... Mike O'Meara Show, The Tony Perkins Show, and The Rob and Joe Show. The boys get some new toys, and it leads to some hits and misses. Rofo is a gassy fella which is great on a first date. When Gary has to use the restroom, you might want to pray. Oscar.... well, you'll have to listen. What does Joe Robinson mean to Rob Maher?
America's favorite P1 Steve Mermelstein panels on this week's show. It's a short week, but an important one. Patton Oswalt stops into The Mike O'Meara Show and TMOS has one of the best Bonus shows ever. We are still trying to figure out Rob Maher's commitment issue after he talks about buying a house on The Rob and Joe Show. RoFo has a new girlfriend, but it is roommate and offer to Pony that have us talking. Tony Roberts guests on The Tony Perkins Show. If you are a fan of Woody Allen films, it is a must listen.
I’m back from the first Los Angeles Podcast Festival, which was about a week ago. It was pretty much a success and more well organized than you might imagine four comedians — Dave Anthony, Graham Elwood, Chris Mancini and Andy Wood — might be able to pull together. There were some interesting panels on how to promote your podcast and how to soup up your technology, stuff like that. And a bunch of live podcasts, everybody from Greg Behrendt and Dave Anthony’s Walking the Room and Superego! to Fitzdog Radio and Doug Loves Movies. Doug Benson’s show included Marc Maron, Zach Galafinaikis, Steve Agee, Todd Glass, and Dave Anthony. It was the most hilarious train wreck of a live podcast you’re liable to see…or hear. Susan Wygmans, Travis Clark, Me, Brandy Clark I got a chance to meet up with some of the podcasters that I’ve been tweeting and Skyping with over the past year or so but have never meet face to face! I had breakfast Travis and Brandy Clark from Tiny Odd Conversations and Susan Wygmans from Toggle The Switch. I recorded our conversation for the heck of it so for those really curious about what four podcasters like to shoot the shit about, just click on the player below. (It's like a Succotash bonus track!) Here's what waiting for you in this exciting episode... Firstly, my background music: If you like Bluegrass, check out the tunage behind me in the show's opening. That's It's Okay To Pick It by comedian Denny Johnston and Mark Linford. You can get yourself a copy and can rate & review it for them over at CDBaby, iTunes or on Amazon. Epi38 features my interview via Skype with friend-of-the-show Dave Nelson, host of the Comedy A-Go-Go podcast and who recently dropped his 100th episode. David interviewed me right after the very first episode of Succotash landed and I'm a little embarrassed it's taken this long to return the favor. As far as the clips for this episode go, I was so inundated by the popular shows at the Podcast Festival last week that I thought I’d try to feature clips from shows you might not know about, and a few that you might because I’ve featured them here before. Chick N Dick Podcast Our first clip is from a pretty new podcast, the Chick N Dick show with John Simmonds and Lindsey Mogul. John was the co-host of a show called the Truth or Truth podcast which made it to 57 episodes before he and co-host Brandon called it quits but now he’s back with a woman on the other mic so we’ll see how it goes… Podkward Podcast According to their site, Podkward hosts Emilio Rossal and Engineer Cesar chat with actors, musicians, filmmaker and hobos about a variety of topics including movies, relationships, strange rashes and more. Rob & Joe Show We’ve heard from Rob Maher and Joe Robinson of The Rob & Joe Show out of Baltimore before. They’re always got some interesting chatter going on and, in this clip, it’s about Rob’s encounter at a standup show with a blind audience member after the show. They livecast every Monday night at 7:30 PM East Coast time at their homesite. The Rigid Fist In the second clip we've played from The Rigid Fist, host Kat Sorens and his guest Carl MacAteer start out talking about exercise apps and end up in somewhat seamier territory. Ben-A-Pod I’m not quite sure what the thing is with the Ben-A-Pod podcast. Host Benjamin Bubb has guests, features, chat, and “audio drama” but Ben’s voice is electronically modulated throughout the show. It’s like listening to a Stephen Hawking podcast. I’m not sure if it wouldn’t drive you crazy hearing it all the time, but it’s definitely different. Especially this clip which get super-meta as Ben-A-Pod calls an automated help line. Burst O’ Durst I actually shouldn’t be playing this epi's Burst O’ Durst with Will Durst because it’s kind of time-sentitive — it’s based on the second presidential debate and now the third and final debate has already come and gone. But it’s Durst, dammit, so here it is! Hope you enjoy this episode. If you’re a comedy podcaster and want us to feature a clip from your show on Succotash, just send along a 3-5 minute MP3 or WAV chunk to clips@SuccotashShow.com. And if you’re a fan of a particular comedy podcaster, let us know what it is by dropping a line to me, Marc@SuccotashShow.com and I’ll track it down. Until next time, please remember to pass the Succotash! — Marc Hershon
Succotash is legal! Well, at least we've turned 21, as in episode 21. Now that our podcast is officially an adult, we intend to stay out late, stop listening to our parents, and vote for whatever candidate spends the most money on TV commercials. I'm continuing the campaign we kicked off last episode, the Save Our Hard Drive Drive. In an effort to stir more emotions about donating money to our efforts to retrieve some unproduced interviews off of my broken external hard drive, I feature a quick Skype conversation with comedian/writer/podcaster Ed Crasnick, who is the subject of one of the lost interviews. Here's the picture that I promised I'd include during this podcast - it's the contents of the "Bob Ducca Resolution Ointment Application Kit" that I discovered included in a shipment I'd ordered from First Aid Global in Tarzana. Considered that image of my eyeball is from my @hershco Twitter avatar, I have to assume that Todd West, GM of the company and whose card was included in the bag, must be a Succotash passer. I love it! In addition to the bouquet of comedy podcast clips included in this 'sode, and the chat with Mr. Crasnick, I've got a couple of other little tidbits: An audio sketch by Steve Shaw from New York, a short musical ditty by writer Chet Haase and a fresh new commercial from the good folks at Henderson's Pants. Speaking of which, our announcer Bill Heywatt is observing Lent this year and has sworn off the sauce until after Easter. So in lieu of Boozin' With Bill, we have him onboard reading an original poem, Ode To A Rose. This episode is capped off, as usual, by friend-of-Succotash and top-notch political wag Will Durst in our Burst O' Durst. (Get more of him at http://WillDurst.com and watch him tweet as @WillDurst on Twitter!) Comedy podcast-wise, here's who we have in this new episode: Affirmation Nation with Bob Ducca This installment of AN is about three weeks old and was called in by Bob from the road. I'm a little concerned that there's been nothing new since then. Is Bob okay? You might check in with http://Earwolf.com or on iTunes to see if Mr. Ducca's been rescued. The David Feldman Show The edgy, funny, politically savvy David Feldman continues to create entertaining content each week for his show on Peninsula radio, which is then released as a podcast. This particular clip delves into the news of the Richard Nixon love letters to wife Pat that were recently made public, and features Frank Conniff and Rick Overton doing the voice of Nixon. Catch all the fun at http://DavidFeldmanComedy.com, iTunes or on Stitcher. Delicious Mediocrity After some 86 episodes, the guys behind this Seattle-based comedy p'cast are calling it quits. Well, not quits, but they ARE switching gears, changing formats and ditching the current title in favor of a new monthly show that will be performed in front of a live audience. This is part of their farewell announcement. Girl On Guy Providing a woman's touch to the heavily testosteroned world of comedy podcasts, comedian Aisha Tyler goes one-on-one with Jimmy Pardo. Pardo's Never Not Funny podcast set the bar for comedy podcasts when he hit the 'net in 2006 with a paid model for a show and he proved the exception to the rule that people wouldn't pay for such a thing. Check out the full conversation at http://GirlOnGuy.net, iTunes or download her smartphone app for iOS or Android. Podsmack Fun title for a rollicking show from Walla, Australia. The three hosts - Matt Olsen, Sheyne Halloran, and Dana Simpson - are less than a dozen episodes into the podcasting game so far, but they're such big supporters of Succotash that we figured we'd give 'em a spin. The focus of this particular clip was so captivating that it actually inspired this week's Henderson' Pants ad. See more of them at http://podsmack.net or on iTunes. The Rob & Joe Show Booming out of the Baltimore area, comedian/radio personalities Rob Maher and Joe Robinson have pulled themselves from the rubble of terrestrial radio and now put this show on live, online, every Monday night at 7:30 PM EDT. It then gets the podcast treatment at http://RobAndJoeShow.com and on iTunes. The Thrilling Adventure Hour TAH is one of the hottest comedy tickets for live shows in Los Angeles. It stages once a month and sells out way in advance. Presented in the fashion of an old-style radio show, it's a perfect format for modern-style podcasting. This clip features TV star Nathon Fillion (Castle, Firefly) as Cactoid Jim, King of the Martian Prairie. BTW, this 21st episode of Succotash originates from Studio P in Sausalito, California - The Home of The Hit! - and I want to thank our engineer/producer Joe Paulino for pulling it all together, as well as Scott Carvey, our Musical Director. If there's a comedy podcast out there that YOU listen to (or that you HOST), feel free to tell us all about it via marc@SuccotashShow.com, on our Succotash Hotline at (818) 921-7212. Until next time, please remember to pass the Succotash! — Marc Hershon
