This episode is full of Friday whimsy, as Andy and Brendan cover a variety of topics to send you into the weekend. Andy begins by asking questions about Ryder Cup eligibility for the latest honorary Texan. Brendan reveals that Thursdays are now known as "Diet Friday" after sharing today's Masters Fact of the Day. Speaking of Masters facts, Andy then provides an early weather update for Augusta, making sure he gets out in front of this upcoming catnip. After a recap of PJ's night at a Mumford & Sons concert on Wednesday night, updates are provided on the Hero Indian Open and the Houston Open. DLF was featured on Design Disasters on Thursday morning after caddies wrote in to complain about the 17th hole, and Matt Jordan is in contention with his standard first-round 69. In Houston, Tosti finds himself in the early lead, making Andy wonder what would happen if Tosti found himself in the field at Augusta National. LIV Golf announced its own Creator Classic, with a similar group of creators playing alongside pros at LIV Miami. PGA Tour member Wes Bryan is playing with Dustin Johnson, which has Andy do some journalism to ask if he'll be suspended from the PGA Tour as a result of his participation. At long last, some Golf Advice emails are read before Brendan has a quick Flashback Friday segment about Vijay Singh and how international players adjusted to the Houston Open in the early 2000s.
BIG, DIFFICULT, FASCINATING QUESTIONS (THAT WE'LL HAVE TO FACE IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE). It seems only fitting that Matt Jordan – with his genetically perfect beard – should assume command of the USS 3Q3D for a conversation that tackles the toughest bioethical questions of our not-at-all distant future. Joined as usual by Amanda Adams and Chris Mikolay, the group wastes no time discussing whether we ought to genetically enhance our children, the second and third order consequences of dramatically increasing lifespans, and whether it's a good idea to implant a computer chip in our heads to make us a whole lot smarter. The questions are as good as the drinks (and in this episode, the drinks are *chef's kiss*), and resulting conversation is so strong that it's hard to believe it wasn't held by superhumans from the future. Drinks in this Episode: Last Word coctkail >> 3/4 ounce gin; 3/4 ounce green Chartreuse; 3/4 ounce maraschino liqueur; 3/4 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed; Garnish: brandied cherry (optional). Add the gin, green Chartreuse, maraschino liqueur and lime juice into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe glass and enjoy on your spaceship to Mars. Sakura Sunrise cocktail >> 1 ½ ounce Roku gin; ½ ounce simple syrup; ¾ ounce grapefruit juice; ½ ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed; splash of St. Germain; 3 dashes Lavender bitters. Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and strain into a coupe. Enjoy it anywhere, but ideally at a fancy bar on the North Shore of Hawaii so you can humblebrag about it later during a podcast recording. Lemon Drop cocktail >> 2 ounces vodka; 1/2 ounce triple sec; 1 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed; 1 ounce simple syrup. Garnish: sugar rim. Coat the rim of a cocktail glass with sugar and set aside (do this a few minutes ahead so the sugar can dry and adhere well to the glass). Add the vodka, triple sec, lemon juice and simple syrup to a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled. Strain into the prepared glass, take a sip, and immediately declare how much you enjoyed Lemonheads as a kid. Beginnings of Prayer – Part 5: Start Now and Improve Your Prayer Life -- A Robust Prayer Life Will Transform Your Life MESSAGE SUMMARY: INTRODUCTIOIN -- Prayer is: 1) spending time with God – acknowledging God's presence in all our lives' activities; and 2) conversation with God – listening to and talking with God. Prayer reflects on our relationship with God. Why don't we pray. The Apostle James, in James 4:2-3, provides a perspective regarding Prayer Life: “You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions." In praying, we should know the difference between prayers of "petition" (praying for one's own needs) and prayers of "intercession" (praying for the needs of others). God wants prayers of "petition" from us -- all our needs and concerns should be brought to Him in prayer because He loves and cares for us. However, God want us to, also, focus on others and their needs (intercession) -- physical and spiritual. "Intercessory prayer” is fundamental to deepening our prayer life and our personal relationship with God. SUNDAY MESSAGE -- This Sermon is Q and A session on prayer with Archbishop Beach and Rev. Matt Jordan. Jan Karen, author of the Mitford Series, says that "In the big issues of life as well as the small, God wants to hear from His children . . . the most important thing we get from prayer is the relationship that we enter into with God.". As Jesus tells us in Luke 11:9-10 that, as His followers we are both expected to pray and to ask as a fundamental part of our lives in Him: “And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.". Additionally, Luke tells us, in Luke 18:1, that we should continue to pray: “And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart." How do you know that God has answered your prayer? What does it mean when God has not answered your prayer? Why, if God answers our prayers, should we ask for others to pray for us? How do we know if we are praying in the Holy Spirit? Why does my mind start wandering when I start praying? How good is it to have a prayer journal? Why, sometimes, are we tempted to sin when we pray? How important is fasting? Do we stop in our prayers enough to give thanks to the Lord? The common position, derivative of all these questions is expressed to us in Ephesians 3:21b-24 that prayer is life changing and fundamental to a life in Jesus: “the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.". Pray specific prayers, in the Holy Spirit and in Scripture, for ourselves and for others -- be persistent. TODAY'S PRAYER: Keeping the Sabbath, Lord, will require a lot of changes in the way I am living life. Teach me, Lord, how to take the next step with this in a way that fits my unique personality and situation. Help me to trust you with all that will remain unfinished and to enjoy my humble place in your very large world. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 129). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM A FORGIVEN. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9). On April 3rd, 2018, my journey began with podcasting. The first was simply me telling the listener what LYM would be, the second was my first guest Erik Guay. I had trained Erik for the last six years of his career, and I thought sitting down with him and understanding his life and career as they were coming close to a conclusion would be a great way to start this show.I had no idea what was ahead, how many I would do, or who I would have the honor and pleasure of speaking with throughout this journey of six-plus years. So many great stories, so many incredible guests, and so much insight unpacked. How lucky am I to have had this experience?400!!Four hundred podcasts and the 400th is being released today on my 61st birthday! Unplanned, LOL! Who's on it you ask?Two of my favorite people in high-performance sports. The perfect combination of smarts, humility, desire to accomplish, willingness to pull on the rope with others, always willing to share, learn, and mentor, and most of all, always up for a good laugh. This one is all about stories from our experiences in the world of high-performance sports. It's been a ride. One podcast every week for the last six years and counting, with no plan to stop. More amazing guests, more amazing stories, and hopefully value found by you, the listener.Thank you to all the amazing guests for your time, so precious as it is, and thank you to all the listeners who keep coming back and keeping the show alive.A deep thank you to my sponsors now and early on. Especially Greg Lawlor from Matrix for being with me in the first half of this journey, a stalwart in their support, and more recently the support from Frank McKinnon and VALD. On this episode of the Pacey Performance Podcast, Rob is speaking to 3 experts when it comes to the research and application of force plates, Phil Graham-Smith, Matt Jordan and Paul Read. The converation starts off with Phil diving into how we choose a force plate and what are our options to ensure we are choosing the right technology for our needs. Phil highlights the importance of having a clear objective when selecting force plates, as knowing what and why we are testing is crucial for effective usage. The experts discuss the benefits of using dual force plates for tracking asymmetries in athletes, which is particularly useful in rehabilitation scenarios. This approach not only helps in pinpointing discrepancies but also in enhancing overall performance by ensuring both sides are equally developed. Listeners will also discover the importance of instantaneous feedback and robust data analysis provided by force plate software. Such features are integral for integrating with other measurement devices and offer real-time insights that can dramatically influence training decisions. Jump mechanics are another focal point of the discussion, illustrating how jump height, ground contact time, and the duration of eccentric and concentric phases are pivotal metrics for measuring athlete fatigue and performance. Understanding these metrics within a standardized framework helps in effectively interpreting the data and making informed training adjustments. The podcast also covers practical techniques, such as the hands-on hips method, to ensure consistent and reliable data collection during jump tests. Furthermore, the discussion extends to how force plates can aid in classifying ACL injuries through detailed analysis of jump measures and mechanical variables, providing invaluable support in rehabilitation and training regimes. Towards the end of the podcast, the conversation shifts to the importance of selecting the most reliable metrics and avoiding those that are less consistent, such as the rate of force development. The experts stress focusing on metrics with a strong biological basis and high repeatability to ensure the data collected is both accurate and useful. This episode is an indispensable resource for coaches, athletes, and sports scientists eager to leverage advanced technology to enhance athletic performance and prevent injuries. Main talking points: Understand various force plate types for specific needs. Clearly define testing objectives for effective force plate use. When to and when not to monitor athlete asymmetries. Instant feedback, robust data analysis enhance training decisions. Measure athlete fatigue and performance with key metrics. Standardize data interpretation using a consistent framework. Force plates classify ACL injuries through jump analysis. Prioritize reliable metrics, avoid inconsistent rate of force development. Focus on metrics with strong biological basis, repeatability. Adjust training based on individual and sport-specific demands.

Does God exist? It's a question no thoughtful person can ignore. For philosophers, it is a topic of perennial discussion and dispute. There are many arguments on both sides of the issue, and perhaps the most famous of them has to do with the reality of evil: Does all the suffering we see in the world make it irrational to believe in God, or can faith be reasonable even in the face of evil? On this episode of More Human, you will hear a debate between two Tri-C philosophers: Matthew Carey Jordan, the dean and chair for the humanities at the college's Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Humanities Center, and Sam LiPuma, a professor of philosophy at our Western Campus in Parma. WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE. RIGHT? Matt Jordan takes over for the second time as host of the good ship 3Q3D, and in so doing, leads a fun and fascinating conversation with Chris Mikolay and Sam LiPuma – an author, professor and 3Q3D newcomer – that explores several of the most interesting questions ever posed on the podcast. Over 3 drinks as unique as each question, Matt, Chris and Sam debate whether it's ever okay to take a life, ponder the pros and cons of immortality, and finally, bets are placed on what happens when the lights go out. The three may not all agree on the answers to each question, but one thing is for sure: drink enough Angels Envy bourbon…and you will receive total consciousness (which is nice). Drinks in this Episode:White Russian >> 2 oz vodka, 1 oz Kahlúa, 1 splash heavy cream. Add the vodka and Kahlúa to a rocks glass filled with ice, top with the heavy cream by pouring it over a spoon so it looks like a Starbucks beverage made for a sorority girl.Pineapple Banana Orange Crush >> 2 oz pineapple/banana/orange juice, 2 oz orange vodka, 1 oz Triple Sec, lemon-lime soda like Sprite or 7UP. Pour juice, vodka and Triple Sec into a glass filled with crushed ice. Top off with Sprite/7 up and garnish with an orange wedge. Stir and, provided humanity has finally cured death, enjoy for the next several millennia.Angels Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey >> Pour at least two fingers into a proper Glencairn glass and don't even think about using ice. Raise a glass to the angels above who wish they could have just a taste. MYSTERY TOPIC! In the final installment of a 3-part series of shorter episodes designed to pare nicely with one quick drink, Chris experiments with variations on the classic Aperol Spritz – and pays dearly for it. However, just as Amanda Adams and Matt Jordan were in the dark on the topic of this episode, you, dear listener, will have to wait and see what topic might prompt a discussion about soggy cereal enthusiasts, peeing in swimming pools, and the greatest decade of the 20th century. If you want to get to know a friend or family member better, take note of these questions and thank us later. Drinks in this Episode:St. Germain Spritz >> 3 parts Prosecco, 2 parts St. Germain, 1 part club soda. Add the Prosecco, St. Germain and club soda to a wine glass filled with ice and stir, garnishing with a lemon peel. Drink and immediately regret you didn't choose an Aperol Spritz instead.Amaro Nonino Spritz >> 3 parts Prosecco, 2 parts Amaro Nonino, 1 part club soda. Add the Prosecco, Amaro Nonino and club soda to a wine glass filled with ice and stir, garnishing with a lemon peel. Become further enraged at “Big Spritz” for convincing you to try drinking any other form of Spritz than the original Aperol version.Lillet Blanc Spritz >> 3 parts Prosecco, 2 parts Lillet Blanc, 1 part club soda. Add the Prosecco, Lillet Blanc and club soda to a wine glass filled with ice and stir, garnishing with a lemon peel. Serve it to a friend who you hate, because this drink is terrible. If you've been enjoying the 3Q3D podcast, please subscribe and consider giving us a rating, a review, or sharing an episode with a friend. WOULD YOU RATHER? While this second round of a special 3-part series of mini episodes may indeed be shorter than the typical 3Q3D fare, it isn't short on controversial conversation. While Amanda Adams serves up a super sweet Tequila Sour, Chris asks a series of increasingly ridiculous “Would You Rather” questions that leave Matt Jordan feeling quite flustered. Apologies in advance to anyone similarly offended, but for those who enjoy contemplating the absurd, this episode is for you. *That's what Mikolay says Drink in this Episode:Tequila Sour >>1 ½ oz tequila, ¾ oz freshly squeezed lemon juice, ½ simple syrup. Shake the ingredients vigorously in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into a chilled sour glass, garnish with a Maraschino cherry and HEY NOW, YOU'RE AN ALL-STAR…If you've been enjoying the 3Q3D podcast, please subscribe and consider giving us a rating, a review, or sharing an episode with a friend. UNDERRATED / OVERRATED / PROPERLY RATED. In a special 3-part series of shorter episodes designed to pair nicely with a relaxing summertime hammock ride or walk in the park, Amanda Adams, Matt Jordan and Chris Mikolay debate everyday items and activities that are either “Underrated, Overrated or Properly Rated.”This episode is a lot like fireworks displays, s'mores and brunch: you'll either love it or hate it. If it's the former, we'd appreciate if you let the world know 3Q3D is highly underrated by giving us a 5-star review; if it's the latter, well, we suggest you mix up a gimlet and rest easy knowing another “Afternoon Delight” (with an entirely different topic) is just one week away.Drink in this Episode:Gimlet >>1 ½ oz Hendrick's gin, 1 oz St. Germain liqueur, 1 oz lime juice (freshly squeezed, because we are civilized), 2” piece of peeled cucumber quartered lengthwise and cut crosswise into ¼” thick pieces, plus a thinly sliced cucumber round for garnish. Mix ingredients less garnish in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Pour into a martini glass or coupe and garnish with cucumber round. Find your favorite hammock and relax in the shade. If you've been enjoying the 3Q3D podcast, please subscribe and consider giving us a rating, a review, or sharing an episode with a friend. SPECIAL HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR! 3Q3D returns to its classic format in this Halloween themed episode as OG contributors Amanda Adams, Matt Jordan and Chris Mikolay conjure up 3 seasonal elixirs sure to please even the prickliest vampire. Contemplating their own mortality with questions about Death, Dying and Halloween, Matt makes creative use of candy corn, Chris sets up a chemistry lab and makes a drink that threatens the lives of all who dare drink it, and Amanda – with blood on her hands and in need of an alibi – may or may not have committed a capital crime. Trick-or-treat!Drinks in this Episode:Candy Corn Old Fashioned >> 2 oz bourbon, 2 oz candy corn “slurry”, 3 dashes angostura bitters, orange twist. In a mixing glass full of ice, stir and strain into a chilled glass over a large cube of ice. Twist a long zest of orange over the drink to release the oils, then drop it into glass. To make the candy corn slurry, mix 10 oz of candy corn with 5 oz of water in a pan of gently simmering hot water. Stir the candy corn until it dissolves into a paste-like mixture and you've lost all respect for yourself, because you're about to ruin an otherwise fine Old Fashioned by dumping liquefied candy corn into it. Dracula's Kiss Cocktail (Amanda Adams style) >> 2 oz vodka, 2 oz pink cranberry juice, 1 oz black cherry juice, 1 oz grenadine, 1 tablespoon lime juice, candied blood (for rim), vampire teeth (real or store-bought). To make the candied blood droplet rim: in a small saucepan over medium-high heat, add light corn syrup and black cherry juice. Stir to mix, bring to a boil (about 5 minutes) and then reduce contents to a simmer. Allow to cool to room temperature. Add red food coloring and stir to combine. The “blood” will be highly viscous, allowing it to stay in droplets on or near the rim of the glass for extended periods of time. To make the Dracula's Kiss cocktail: using a spoon, scoop out a small amount of the candied blood and transfer to the rim of the glass until it looks like a crime scene. Add ice, vodka, pink cranberry juice, black cherry juice, grenadine and lime juice to a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously for 20 seconds. Strain into the blood rimmed cocktail glass, garnish with Vampire teeth and serve to your next victim. Vampire's Kiss Cocktail (Chris Mikolay edition) >> 2 oz vodka, 2 oz Chambord, 2 oz unsweetened Cranberry juice, 1 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice; combine ingredients in a shaker with ice, shake vigorously, and strain into a coupe. For spookiest results, add a chunk of dry ice to the cocktail. DO NOT touch dry ice and DO NOT DRINK dry ice. With goggles and gloves, break the block of dry ice into small chunks with a screwdriver or ice pick. The ideal size is 1/2-inch to 1-inch chunks – heavy enough to sink in the drink but small enough to disappear after a few minutes. You can technically take sips of the drink since the dry ice is in the bottom, but just make sure not to let it slide to the top of the glass. For best results, drink after midnight during a full moon. If you've been enjoying the 3Q3D podcast, please subscribe and consider giving us a rating, a review, or sharing an episode with a friend. Like a well-made cocktail, this episode balances disparate ingredients to create something truly sublime as the longtime friends veer from flippant jocularity to intense vulnerability – and everywhere in between . It turns out even the toughest guys can be *gulp* tender.
