There is no time this season where one can sit back, watch games, and not see upsets and surprising losses. It's become somewhat routine to be surprised. On Monday's edition of Hoopsville, we chat with several programs who are at or near the top of their conferences. Will that still be the case in a week or two? All four coaches talk about the challenges that lay ahead. Plus we go in-depth in men's hoops with our Men's Top 25 pundits. Hear their choices for "Debatable," "Dubious," and "Deep Dive" teams. And we look at the news and notes from around Division III where every night seems to have a headline-worthy result. Guests appearing on the Hudl Hoopsville Hotline (subject to change): - Kalin Wynn, Notre Dame (Md.) women's coach - Megan Phelps, No. 15 Bowdoin women's coach - Russell White, No. 16 Cal Lutheran men's coach - Raul Placeres, Maryville (Tenn.) men's coach - Top 25 Double-Take: Bob Quillman and Ryan Scott Hoopsville is presented by D3hoops.com.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Secret of the Ooze has been blasted by critics, and while it was beloved by children back in the 90s, what do those kids think now? Michelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael, and Donatello take on the Shredder (or spoiler alert: they don't) and try to save New York one more time, while also learning where they came from! Let's imagine a Ninja Turtle movie where they never use their weapons, but are sticklers for observing the traditional pre-fight donut. Stephanie, Joe, and the Mayor are back in Perfection alongside Burt Gummer as he continues to have the worst luck ever. No matter how many killer dirtworms (aka Graboids) he takes out, they seem to follow him all over the world. This time, back in his hometown, will he be able to stop them for good? Given that there are 7 Tremor's movies, I'm guessing no. At least we can have fun roasting all of this ridiculousness along the way. What if Ben Affleck amid "misses" Forces of Nature and Bounce, made a heist movie that had plot twists on top of its plot twists, featuring an unhinged Gary Sinise and a young (crazy) Charlize Theron? A recipe for success you might think, but Reindeer Games got blasted by critics, and audiences and it bombed financially. Where did it go wrong? It had a great writer and an all-time director John Frankenheimer. Is it time to re-assess Reindeer Games or does it deserve its spot in the garbage heap of 90's cinema? Imagine the pitch meeting - "It's Santa Claus, right, but this one has muscles!" PRINT THE MONEY! Now, the rest of us are left to pick up the pieces of Hulk Hogan's Santa With Muscles (1996). Previous Hulk Hogan movies had him playing different versions of himself, and here he attempts to act and play a different character. It goes about as well as you'd expect. Many questions will be answered - how did Mila Kunis bury this performance? How can a lawn ornament bench press 300 pounds? Why is Ed Leslie playing an Asian? We'll pull it all apart, and then give out some awards, including our worst actor award, the "Steve Seagal" Trash Can Full of Dirt. Not too many movies out there featuring Jet Li in dreadlocks, but this is where we find ourselves. Even though The One (2001) is rated very low by critics, some swear this is an awesome movie. The movie made us laugh, we're just not sure it was supposed to. It also features one of the best Jet Li fights we've ever seen. We go scene by scene and answer the important questions - how did Jet Li get with Carla Gugino? Why is the only thing different in each parallel universe his hairdo? Why does Jason Statham have hair, and why can't he fight in this? We'll pull it all apart, and then give out some awards, including our worst actor award, the "Steve Seagal" Trash Can Full of Dirt. Working in real estate can be a fulfilling and financially rewarding career, but it's certainly not an easy one! Today, you'll learn some of the ins and outs of the business from Mr. Russell White, who is the owner of White House Realty in Sacramento, California, and a full-service real estate broker who has been in the business for almost 30 years. Russell White is a co-owner of a recruitment company after years of experience as a recruiter including working with a variety of FTSE 500 companies. Russell joins Christina to talk about his wealth of knowledge in the industry including what real inclusion in the workplace looks like, the demands on agency-style businesses and account managers and how the pandemic revolutionised how we work forever. KEY TAKEAWAYS Recruitment has evolved over the years that Russell has worked in the industry, it now has recognised value across industries Sadly Russell still comes across unconscious bias and attitudes towards people based on their race, age, neurodiversity and other traits. It's up to businesses to accommodate those who are neurodiverse in the workplace. Bias towards them or not understanding the differences can be a detriment to the company, being neurodiverse is a positive. Inclusion can look very different depending on the company and the employee, it's about looking at workers as individual people and recognising their needs, seeing them as part of the organisation. Making your people and employees feel part of something is a key element in creating good company culture as they will respect your company ethos, values and approach. Meeting people face to face is much more nuanced, the communication flows more freely and the conversations had are different and have a different energy. As a business owner you have to wear many different hats, you need to be analytical yet great at relationships alongside knowing all the moving parts of the business and its people. BEST MOMENTS 04:05 “[recruitment] Supported the life and careers of so many people who have gone on to help other people” 04:34 “You evolve the values of what a recruiter should be doing, for me it's very much about helping the individual whilst understanding the cultural ethos and values of a business” 12:33 “Businesses need to adjust how they talk to them [neurodiverse], the environments those people work in” 16:31 “Being neurodiverse is not a negative, it's a positive” 24:10 “It's all about making people feel part of something, your people will respect the brand, the organisation, the ethos, the approach” 41:26 “As a business owner I do feel like a bit of a chameleon at times” VALUABLE RESOURCES Christina Talks Podcast https://www.green-umbrella.biz/how-to-launch-anything-using-social-media/ ABOUT THE HOST Christina has been working with SME's since 2013 to launch, develop and perfect their online presence. Brisbane heavy outfit Massic decimated the eardrums of the nation with their 2018 debut album Redshift, a sweltering melting pot of hardcore and groove that was backed up by a ferociously addictive live show. Then, as happened the world over, the band hit a stumbling block in the form of a virus that stopped the planet and Massic were forced to work behind closed doors to put together the second, eagerly awaited chapter. Then, vocalist Simon Russell-White had a major health scare as well, which threatened to derail the Massic machine permanently, before the planets finally aligned and allowed the band the freedom to do what they do best.Produce heavy, quality music that stands in a welcome league of its own. After drip feeding new content with “Assimilate”, “Surrender” and “Plummet Back To Earth”, Massic are finally in sight of releasing their latest album Cognisant on May 13, with Russell-White and guitarist Chris Butler sitting down with HEAVY to chat about the album and the Herculian task in getting it ready for public consumption."From my end, I'm just stoked to be here and see it happening,” Simon smiled. “It's been so long in the making, but at the same time it's a time capsule so it's great to have it finally coming out and have a date set. I've got nothing else but that (laughs).""It's a relief, for sure,” Butler added. “The majority of this album was written prior to 2020 and had there not been COVID this would have been probably released towards the latter part of that year. It's been sitting there, and we've been waiting and wanting and getting bumps like every other band who has been trying to do the things that we do. It's gonna be good to have it out so we can back it up and do some shows. That's what we love."While Cognisant will undoubtedly appeal to existing fans of Massic, both band members admit that they should prepare themselves for growth across the board, resulting in Massic exploring new sonic territory."Musically, compared to the first album Redshift...,” Butler began. “When I was writing it - this is purely from a guitar, riff orientated and doing the drums and coming up with the ideas at home - I wanted things to progress a little bit more. I'm not talking... we're not a prog band, we're a hardcore band, but I wanted to throw in a little bit more. Just a little bit. And that involved a few songs that had more atmospherics and some more harmonised lead parts which were also accompanied by some of Simon's cleans. I just wanted it to be more of a progression from what we initially did with Redshift. Just to push ourselves. That's what it's about.""I think from Redshift to Cognisant the biggest thing is it's a bit more broader scope,” Simon chimed in. “Overall, it's a heavier album. (There's also) Things like cleans and there's some backing vocals as well from Rashid, and I think the overall conceptual idea is bigger. It's a bigger album."In the full interview, Simon and Chris talk about Cognisant in greater detail, the path from inception to completion, the use of more clean vocals and how they fit in with Massic's sound, the singles released so far and how they measure up sonically to the rest of the album, the album launch party at the Wooly Mammoth on May 13 and who else is playing, upcoming live shows and more.

"I think... we've only had four other songs in the band and we made a conscious effort - especially Chris (Butler, guitars), our main songwriter - to pick the best stuff," explained Massic frontman Simon Russell-White on the selection process for their debut album Redshift. "Of course with a few things happening over the years like line-up changes, with the group of guys we have now we've really flourished on the nine songs that made it onto the album. There is a tenth one but it didn't make the cut. We just wanted to put out what we thought was the best material which is why it ended up at nine songs, which is kind of a weird number for an album (laughs). There's a theme there with the title Redshift. It's pretty out there with a big astronaut on the front and there's obviously something being said, but of course, we also want people to be drawn to the album but we also have to stick to what we do original wise and be real about it. This is what we do. If you like it, cool, if you don't well that's okay too."In the modern age of internet and social media and downloads, the actual value of making and printing CD's seems to be a dying art. It is much easier to release things in the digital format and cut costs but Russell-White argues that the physical, take home copy still has a place in the industry."I think so," he affirmed. "We're all a bit older in this band and we still buy CD's but we also do multi-media and if that is done properly can work really well as far as costs go and bands are seeing that. Having a hard copy of your CD I think you have to be realistic with what you can sell it for and be prepared to give it away - especially if it is your debut. I think if you went in thinking we're gonna print 500 CD's and then recoup the costs you're laughing at yourself. When people buy something physical now they are after something more. What we are finding is when people buy a T-Shirt at a gig they find the value in spending an extra $10 and buying a CD because we put them in a bundle. Selling CD's separate is more by mail but live they prefer both which is interesting."To hear more in-depth about Redshift, including what inspired the artwork and how the album relates to the Atom Bomb, as well as the way Massic sees the modern music industry and how to survive in it plus Russell-White's take on the contentious issue of people at concerts with mobile phones tune in to the audio.
