Shelise Keum Mee Gieseke (s/hers) is the head of operations at Adoption Mosaic. One of the biggest joys and motivating factors for founders coming into any industry is solving a problem for a group of people. Once you find a solution or at least imagine the solution, you have to learn and take the steps needed to execute from there.  In this episode, Shelise Joseph and Kadene Brown Lafontant join us to discuss how they founded BE.U.TYMRK.D, an online marketplace of beauty and wellness products curated for Black women. They joined forces to bring a solution and representation to an underserved community with a huge potential.  “There are beauty brands that are amazing, but they can't survive because they don't have access to market the way others do.”   Nothing worth pursuing is going to be simple, and Shelise and Kadene are stepping up to be seen and heard for beauty and wellness brands that aren't easily stocked into big retail stores. In 2017 her life took a turn when she uncovered memories of childhood abuse. Through uncanny synchronicities, she found ancient ways of healing, including sacred plant medicine, meditation, and more. For this episode we had the pleasure of talking to Shelise Ann Sola. Shelise is a working actress and podcaster. These descriptions encompass only a small measure of the talents and experiences that define her. Shelise is also a costumer, author, and Instagram Influencer. After spending 2 years as the Head Animal Costumer on Nick Jr.'s 'Mutt & Stuff' she focused on her acting. Shelise has been featured in numerous commercials booking multiple commercials for companies such as Barbie, QDOBA, Tapatío, Paw Patrol and more. Theatrically, she shot a feature film in Alaska as the lead. Shelise has also authored a book discussing her upbringing in Mormon society as well as abuses she endured and survived. Regarding the hypothetical we discussed how psychedelics could be effectively and safely used in today's society. Substances such as Mushrooms and Ayahuasca, with proper guidance, can be helpful in alleviation of many individuals symptoms both mental and spiritual. The conversation that ensues is lively and fun. We thoroughly enjoyed chatting with Shelise and found common ground with her ideas and opinions in regards to the therapeutic properties inherent in psychedelic substances.
