In this episode of Double Tap, Steven Scott and Shaun Preece dive into a packed show full of accessible tech updates, sharp opinions, and laugh-out-loud moments. They open with breaking news about the Nintendo Switch 2 gaining accessibility features—big news for gamers with disabilities. But what does it actually mean in practice? Can blind users now enjoy games fully? Accessibility advocate and YouTuber Steve Saylor joins the conversation later to explain exactly what this update involves and what gamers can realistically expect. From there, the hosts explore the future of AI-powered robots and whether they'd trust a machine to give them a haircut. This light-hearted but thought-provoking chat leads to a deeper conversation about the rise of robotics, AI's current limitations, and tech giants like Apple and Tesla's vision of the future.Listeners also get a tour of Microsoft Copilot's latest features, how accessible it's become on Windows, and why its voice conversations are surprising even seasoned users. Steven shares frustrations about the inconsistent accessibility across apps like NOA (News Over Audio) and praises services like Dolphin EasyReader and RNIB Newsagent. In tech nostalgia, they react to Skype shutting down and reminisce about ICQ and old messaging days. Plus, they review the Meta AI rollout in WhatsApp and discuss the value of smarter AI tools for searching messages and content across platforms like Mastodon. From product shoutouts to accessibility wins and rants about tech UI, it's an energetic, funny, and insightful episode you won't want to miss.Get in touch with Double Tap by emailing us feedback@doubletaponair.com or by call 1-877-803-4567 and leave us a voicemail. We take a look at how an increasingly prevalent part of the entertainment industry is becoming more accessible to people with visual impairments. For a long time, video game developers have struggled to understand the needs of people with sight loss and therefore, modern games were largely unplayable. We take a look at The European Gaming Accessibility conference, that aims to combat these attitudes. It brings together people from the gaming industry to share best practice and knowledge on how to make games more accessible. Moreover, the RNIB have launched their Design for Every Gamer campaign that works to do the same. Blind gamer, access consultant and Accessible Gaming Officer for the RNIB, SightlessKombat tells us more. And, part two of a Star Wars spin off game is soon to be released. Visually impaired gamer, access consultant and YouTube personality, Steve Saylor was one of the first people to play an accessibility preview of Star Wars: Jedi Survivor. He tells us what players can expect from the new game. Star Wars: Jedi Survivor audio described trailer is thanks to the #TranscribingGames project. Presenter: Peter White Producer: Beth Hemmings Production Coordinator: Liz Poole Website image description: Peter White sits smiling in the centre of the image, wearing a dark green jumper. Above Peter's head is the BBC logo (three individual white squares house each of the three letters). Bottom centre and overlaying the image are the words "In Touch" and the Radio 4 logo (the word Radio in a bold white font, with the number 4 inside a white circle). The background is a bright mid-blue with two rectangles angled diagonally to the right. Both are behind Peter, one of a darker blue and the other is a lighter blue.

Around once a year, a game releases that seems to completely dominate the gaming cultural conversation (by which we mean it's massively popular and men get really testy about it online). This year the game in that spotlight seems to be ELDEN RING - a new open world RPG from FromSoftware (creators of Dark Souls, Bloodborne, & Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice), directed by studio head Hidetaka Miyazaki and featuring a story & lore written by George RR Martin (yes, *that* George RR Martin)In this episode, we discuss our thoughts on this massive, brilliant, ruthless open-work adventure (basically we love it), discuss the queerness of high fantasy and spellcasting, unpack how the game's open-world design encourages queer modes of play, and talk about how this game succeeds when players chase the fun and don't take it too seriously (again, much to the chagrin of some really intensely opinionated men on the internet). We also briefly touch on the discussion around "approachability vs accessibility" in games; a hot-button issue when it comes to FromSoftware games in particular. We highly recommend checking out this YouTube video by Steve Saylor for an in-depth conversation on this topic in regards to Elden Ring from disabled players themselves. It's a really important and illuminating conversation! We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we're enjoying this video game! Steven, Shaun and Marc are back with special guest David Woodbridge for another episode of Double Tap Canada. We kick off this week's dive into tech with the news that Marc has ordered a pair of the new Beats earbuds from Apple. However, the reviews haven't been particularly glowing, so will he regret buying them? Next, it's on to Windows. Microsoft have officially announced that October 14th, 2025, will be the day that support for Windows 10 will end. This means no more feature or security updates will be pushed out and, basically, is telling people it's time to update. Which bring us nicely onto Windows 11. Of course, we don't know what the next version of Windows will be called yet, but we do know it's coming soon. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella talked about it at the recent Build event, and this week a leaked version of it appeared online. Just what can we expect from the next version of Windows, and is anyone even excited? Next, podcaster and general tech guru Dave Woodbridge tells us about his new favourite bit of kit. It's the PodTrak P4 from Zoom. This portable mixer/recorder/audio interface impressed him so much he bought two. So, what exactly is it about the P4 that has people excited? David tells all. Following an email from listener Greg, Shaun demos the "Immersive Reader Mode" built into the Edge browser for Windows. This feature will strip away the clutter from an article such as links, adverts, etc., making far easier to read using a screen reader. It can also read the entire article to you using the amazing Microsoft TTS voices. Finally, we hear from gamers Steve Saylor and Courtney Craven about the current E3 event and just what is happening in terms of accessible gaming. All this and more such as Greg's wife's description of what the DTC team look like and what will Jeff Bezos be eating in space… only on Double Tap Canada!

OMG y'all, why's everyone keep talking about "return to work" when we never stopped working? Not just in places like jobs, but literally working to emotionally, physically, and mentally survive a literal pandemic? This week, Spencer and Jamie kick things off by chatting through the feelings of overwhelm and tiredness that a lot of folks seem to be able to relate to right now, especially as technology continues to blur the boundary between work and life. You are not alone! Capitalism just wants you to think you are! And who better to break it all down than Dr. Devon Price, nonbinary icon, social psychologist, and author of Laziness Does Not Exist! This convo was absolutely electric, as Devon helps us see how the "laziness lie" and our society's obsession with productivity is hurting all of us, traces its origins to white supremacy, and shows us how playing video games (and other activities often seen as "lazy") are actually really, really good for us. And you know we couldn't let them leave the studio without sharing their transmasculine reading of Ico!! Plus: Returnal's mixed accessibility reviews, Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion, Emily is Away

There has long been a sizeable gap between the popularity of video games and their accessibility. Disabled gamers can find themselves thwarted by changes to controller settings, frozen out of storylines because particular motor skills are being tested, or stymied by sudden obstacles that require acute hearing or eyesight from someone who has hearing or sight loss. But after decades of advocacy work by disabled gamers, that gap is beginning to close. In this documentary, blind gamer Steve Saylor hears some of the stories behind how gaming became more accessible. The documentary includes contributions from Steve Spohn from Able Gamers on how a bag of rice proved instrumental in getting an innovative controller made and from Mike 'BrolyLegs' Begum, who uses his face to press the buttons and has become a top Street Fighter player. Steve Saylor always thought that he sucked at gaming - it turned out that gaming sucked for him. Produced by Ant Adeane A Reduced Listening production for BBC Radio 4

The Demon's Souls remake is every bit as astonishing and brutal as we expected and The Review Crew is here to talk about the highs and lows of arguably one of the best PS5 launch games. IGN's Demon's Souls review is live, and this review discussion brings together Mitchell Saltzman of IGN, Tamoor Hussain of Gamespot, and Steve Saylor of Can I Play That? to discuss the Demon's Souls remake, what makes a remake work, and the accessibility of one of the toughest FromSoftware games.
