Bible Reading: Romans 5:6-9Mia stepped into the department store, her eyes instantly fixing on the crystal music box glittering in the sunlight pouring in through the window. She had been searching for a birthday gift for her sister, Tarrin, and the music box would be perfect--if only she had the money to pay for it.Mia picked up the box, admiring its delicate beauty as she lifted the lid. A ballerina sprang up, her tulle skirt sparkling as she twirled in the air. Then a loud noise from behind Mia caused her to jump and stumble backward. The box slipped from her grasp and shattered on the floor."You're going to have to pay for that," said a clerk standing behind the counter.Mia's cheeks flushed with shame as she met the young man's cold stare. She didn't have that kind of money. Her mother was already working extra shifts just to pay the bills. "But I can't," Mia said in a quivering voice. The man glowered at her, then reached for the phone. "No, please!" Mia's eyes filled with tears. "Don't call anyone. I didn't mean to--" "I'll pay for it," said a voice from behind her.Mia quickly turned around. Her eyes widened as she saw her sister walk up to the counter, holding out money."You can't do this, Tarrin," Mia insisted. "It was my fault. I should pay for it." She knew Tarrin was saving up money to buy a car. Tarrin smiled and handed the man the money."Why are you doing this?" Mia asked."Because I love you," Tarrin answered.A warm feeling flooded Mia's body as her heart swelled with gratitude. Her Sunday school teacher's words came to mind about how God loved her so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to take the punishment for her sins. Jesus paid the price for the wrong things she did, even though she didn't deserve it."Thank you, Tarrin," Mia said as the clerk printed a receipt. And thank you, Jesus, she prayed silently, for paying the price of my sin. -Ann GardeHow About You?Have you ever broken something you couldn't pay for? Each one of us is a sinner who's done wrong, and we could never pay the price of sin ourselves. So Jesus paid it for us! Because of His great love for us, He willingly died on the cross to take the punishment for our sins. Have you trusted Him as your Savior? If not, trust Him today, knowing the price of your sin has been paid in full. (To learn more, click the "Good News!" button in the right column of this page.) In this episode we discuss briefly Neuroscience and Neuropsychology with Tarrin, who is Master Graduate and research assistance. We talk about what neuroscience, and neuroimaging, shows when someone receives CBT or EMDR, pre and post treatment. We discuss how therapy, and therapeutic interventions, may help creating new pathways. And we bust some myths. We also look at some tips/advice to improve brain plasticity, and interestingly this links to one of my previous podcasts on Preparing for therapy. Alternatively, if you are interested in reading some of my blog entries: Sports Anxiety and performance anxiety or ERP for OCD are very interesting. I hope you enjoy the episode. Tarrin Pendergrass and her husband were recently married and with her marriage, she went from being a mom to three to a mom of 10 as her husband has seven kids in addition to her three. Although the transition to blending families into one hasn’t always been easy, Tarrin feels God has equipped her with the skills, patience and love to be a mom to a large family. She knows what it’s like to not have God in her life and through that contrast has learned to recognize God's hand. Show Recap I really love interviewing guests for the podcast. We don't all have to have the same experiences in motherhood in order to learn and grow from each other. In my interview with Tarrin, she shares what it's like to be a stay-at-home mom to a large family and why she feels having 10 kids is easier than having three! We talk about how her divorce from her first husband affected her three daughters and how she and her ex-husband have worked together to help shield the children from the adult problems divorce brings. We also dive into her experiences in the past few months of blending two families together. Tarrin gives advice to others in a similar situation and shares how she has been able to find and prioritize the individual needs of all of her children. After being away for 16 years, Tarrin made the decision a year ago to come back to church and embrace the Gospel. She talks about how she made this decision. Tarrin also shares the challenges associated with this decision such as relationships with friends and dealing with what people would think of her tattoos. Tarrin sees a definite contrast in how her life was before and how it is now that she is working on her relationship with God. I loved what she told me during our interview prep, "Being without it for so long, it's incredibly obvious that God wants to be a part of our daily lives and to help us through each and every struggle we may have."
