Broken Chair Scores

Welcome to season 5 of the Broken Chair Scores soundtrack podcast. This is the season where we're probably going to go viral. Did you see that we're on Instagram now? Follow us there via this link or find it on our landing page. We're cool now! Tell your friends about it. In this episode we play tracks by Maxime Lacoste-Lebuis from the 2020 video game Spiritfarer by Thunder Lotus Games as well as some selections by various composers (mostly Vangelis though) from the 1980 PBS television series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage (the Carl Sagan one). There are 40 years between these productions but they have one thing in common (and I'll borrow a phrase from Episode 39 here): They are totally mellowed out! Look no further if you need to calm down and want to find some chill tracks to relax! If you want to support us you can always write a comment here or on Instagram (where we totally are now since we're cool and all) which would be highly appreciated. If you're interested in a more relaxed podcast about mostly (city-) building game soundtracks for the PC (think Anno, Settlers, Tycoons from the 90's and onwards) then check out Aufbaumusik. “Everyone that we've had contact with still lives in us.” While Spiritfarer is a “cozy management game about dying,” it is much more than it appears on the surface. Underneath its multitude of layers lies an experience that has the power to change perspectives and the way we view video games as an art form. Kaylin talks with Spiritfarer's and Thunder Lotus Games' Creative Director Nicolas Guérin about the rationale and inspiration behind this life-changing game. With more than one million downloads, it's transforming the ways players look at death and how we view video games in general. We talk about how to become more comfortable with uncomfortable topics, like death and grief, as well as character development, our own grief journeys, managing your mental health when working on a game like this, and so much more. Spiritfarer is described by its developer, Thunder Lotus Games, as "a cozy management game about dying." Charon, the legendary ferryman who takes departed souls across the River Styx, gives his duties to young Stella, who collects passengers and does all she can to fulfill their final wishes or long-time desires so they can travel to the afterlife in peace. Soundtrack composer Max LL says the ideas the developers shared with him about how their goal was to make a game in which death can become a comfortable topic, and connecting with unforgettable characters immediately hooked him. Max says many of the memorable characters Stella collects on her ever-expanding ship were inspired by family members and friends of the developers of the team, which gives them very three-dimentional personalities. __________________ Crédits musique : Jazzaddict's Intro by Cosimo Fogg (201) https://soundcloud.com/cosimo-fogg Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported— CC BY 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b... WEEK IN GEEK: Andrew bides his time until Civilization VI releases by playing a bunch of Blizzard games while Dan swims through the lush animation and Old Norse world of Thunder Lotus Games' Jotun. NEWS BLAST - UPDATE - METAL GEAR SURVIVE: Metal Gear series creator and famous non-employee of Konami, Hideo Kojima, boldly said that he has nothing to do with Konami's upcoming Metal Gear Solid V spinoff, Metal Gear Survive, on stage at this years Tokyo Game Show. Konami retaliated by releasing approximately fifteen minutes of co-op gameplay to a rather tepid response. LEGACY CHARACTERS 2.0: Building off of the previous conversations about "legacy characters"––superhero mantles that can be passed from person to person rather than being locked to a single identity––in Episode 09 and, tangentially, in Episode 104, Dan and Andrew return to the topic now that the world has a new Superman––officially New Super-Man––and recent Legacy turns with Wolverine and the use of a Legacy character in Marvel's Agents of SHIELD: Ghost Rider v3.0, Robby Reyes. So, there's lots of stuff to talk about. Leave your thoughts about this week's topics as comments at forallintents.net. Be sure to join the official Facebook page and follow Andrew and D. Bethel on Twitter. Help the show out by leaving a review on the iTunes store. Check out the official YouTube channel, as well! For all intents and purposes, that was an episode recap.
