This conversation? It's deeper than surgery. This week on The Mama's Den, we're talking about the mental warfare of body image—the quiet, constant battle so many women face in their own minds. Melanie and Codie open up about their decision to get tummy tucks—not from a place of vanity alone, but from a place of healing, functionality, identity, and finally choosing themselves. Because for some women, this isn't just about how you look…It's about how you live. From abdominal separation and physical discomfort to the emotional weight of “snapback” culture, comparison, and shame—this episode unpacks what it really means to feel disconnected from your body… and what it takes to reclaim it. The Mamas get honest about: • The mental warfare of not feeling at home in your body • The difference between repair, vanity, and personal choice • Why transparency matters—but also why every woman gets to choose her story • Letting go of shame, judgment, and the pressure to “earn” your body And maybe most importantly: Why suffering in silence shouldn't be the standard for women. Whether you would never consider surgery, have thought about it privately, or are navigating your own body journey—this conversation creates space for honesty, freedom, and grace. Because at the end of the day: you deserve to feel good in your body—whatever that looks like for you. The Mamas are GOING ON TOUR ALL OF MAY!!! Want to see them?? Lipo or tummy tuck—how do you know which one you need?San Diego plastic surgeon Dr. Hector Salazar and Monique talk through the difference between liposuction and a tummy tuck, and why the right choice isn't always obvious. Skin quality, muscle separation, and deeper layers like fascia all play a role in what will give you the result you want. They get into body contouring scars, recovery, why “less invasive” doesn't always mean better, and where options like Renuvion and fat transfer come in.If you're trying to figure out what you really need to make your tummy flatter, this conversation is a good reminder: it's not one-size-fits-all, and having a surgeon you trust makes all the difference.LinksRead more about La Jolla plastic surgeon Dr. Hector Salazar-ReyesLearn more about tummy tuck and liposuctionListen to our episode about Dr. Salazar's signature BellaButton tummy tuck technique Why Your Belly Button is the Most Important Part of a Tummy TuckListen to our episode about plastic surgery incisions Why Scars are a Trade-Off You Won't RegretLearn from the talented plastic surgeons inside La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre, the 12x winner of the San Diego's Best Union-Tribune Readers Poll, global winner of the 2020 MyFaceMyBody Best Cosmetic/Plastic Surgery Practice, and the 2025 winner of Best Cosmetic Surgery Group in San Diego Magazine's Best of San Diego Awards.Join hostess Monique Ramsey as she takes you inside LJCSC, where dreams become real. Have you ever wondered how plastic surgery differs after pregnancy compared to major weight loss? These two journeys often look similar on the surface, but the surgical needs beneath the skin can be quite different. After weight loss, especially following bariatric surgery, patients typically present with significant excess skin, areas of stubborn fat, and varying degrees of muscle separation. Skin quality is often looser due to long-term stretching, and procedures may require extended incisions to properly contour the abdomen, hips, flanks, or back. After pregnancy, the primary change tends to be weakness or separation of the rectus abdominis muscle — often far more pronounced than in weight-loss patients. There may be mild to moderate excess skin and fat, but the internal stretching from pregnancy frequently leads to diastasis recti, which requires internal muscle repair as part of the tummy tuck to restore core strength and abdominal support. While weight-loss patients often need more extensive skin removal, post-pregnancy tummy tucks focus heavily on tightening, restoring muscle structure, and refining the waistline. In this video, Dr. J. Timothy Katzen explains the different surgical approaches he takes for post-pregnancy abdominoplasty versus post-weight-loss body contouring, including how incision patterns, muscle repair, liposuction, and surgical planning change depending on the patient's history, anatomy, and goals. He also discusses which additional procedures are often paired with tummy tucks — such as breast lifts, 360 body lifts, arm lifts, and thigh lifts — depending on the type of transformation needed. If you're considering surgery and would like a personalized consultation with Dr. Katzen, fill out the Patient Questionnaire below:Weight Loss:https://form.jotform.com/243165812398160Silicone Removal:https://form.jotform.com/243094988269071

Not every patient is a candidate for a traditional tummy tuck, and that's where the reverse tummy tuck can be a game-changer. In this episode of Plastic Surgery Untold, Dr. Franco breaks down why this procedure is becoming so popular, especially for patients on their weight loss journey. This approach focuses on lifting and tightening the skin above the belly button with an incision hidden discreetly under the breast fold. For the right candidate, it creates beautiful, natural results without the need for a lower abdominal scar. Key highlights include: Removes excess skin above the belly button Incision hidden in the natural breast crease Often combined with liposuction or skin tightening treatments Great for patients with a high belly button or minimal lower abdominal laxity While not everyone is the right fit for this procedure, for those who are, the reverse tummy tuck can transform the abdomen and reveal definition that's already there. Listen to the full episode of Plastic Surgery Untold on Spotify, Pandora, iHeart, or watch it on YouTube for Dr. Franco's full breakdown of what makes the reverse tummy tuck such an exciting option.

What holds many people back from getting plastic surgery? It's often the idea of recovery. The thought of stepping away from work or social activities can feel overwhelming, but everyone finds their own solution to the recovery puzzle when the timing and circumstances feel right. Spending too much time avoiding recovery can mean missing out on a procedure you've wanted for a while. If you have a big event coming up and want to refine your appearance, planning ahead for recovery is key. Make room in your life to prioritize your aesthetic goals. If it's something you're going to do eventually, why not do it now and enjoy the results longer? Dr. Bass covers: Different types of recovery, from resting at home to stepping back from social activities while you heal How recovery time and experiences vary depending on the procedure and your unique journey The typical recovery timelines for popular treatments, from surgeries like face lifts and tummy tucks to nonsurgical options like injectables and energy-based treatments About Dr. Lawrence Bass Innovator. The holidays are behind us and some of us are thinking "New Year, New Me" and whatnot. But when you have had a baby or two....or four, there can be challenges beyond just hitting the gym. So, The Mamas are running back an episode where we talked about our pre and post baby bodies. Hear what we think about everything from snapping back to diastasis recti, cosmetic surgery and more. This episode was recorded before Tata and Kaia were even born, so things have changed. But give it a listen and then tell us if you want us to talk about how we feel about our bodies now!
This episode feels so tender to share. It's a raw, vulnerable, and deeply transformative story that I know will resonate with so many of you. Please be gentle with yourself as you listen to this episode and be aware of potential triggers. In this episode, I take you on the journey of my healing over the past 15 years - from the trauma and chaos of my upbringing to the severe sexual assault I experienced at 19 that left me suicidal, to the chronic illness and inflammation that plagued my body for years. But this isn't just a story of struggle. It's a story of profound self-discovery, empowerment, and reclaiming my sovereignty. And I hope it deeply inspires you to believe that your transformation is possible too. Through plant medicine work, inner reflection, and some major life decisions, I was able to break free from the patterns and energetic burdens that were holding me back for years... it's why I do the work I do today.. to show others what's truly possible. In this episode, we dive into: My background and early struggles with emotional chaos, people-pleasing, and unhealthy relationships The journey of regaining sovereignty over my nervous system after my sexual trauma How chronic illness and inflammation led me to make a commitment to become the healthiest version of myself The powerful realizations I had during an Ayahuasca ceremony in Peru about letting go of other people's energetics My decision to have tummy tuck and breast lift surgery as a physical manifestation of closing a traumatic chapter The profound spiritual and synchronistic experiences that unfolded before and after the surgery Reflections on the 15-year cycle of transformation and the importance of giving yourself permission to heal This episode is a must-listen for anyone who has experienced trauma, chronic illness, or the desire to truly transform their life from the inside out. I share my raw, unfiltered journey in a way that I hope will inspire, empower, and give you permission to prioritize your own healing. I'm honored to share.
