Then, we close in the second half of the show with analysis from Bryan Doherty, Senior Market Advisor from Total Farm Marketing.

I met 23-year-old Kevin Boyle when he sailed into La Cruz Mexico aboard his Ericson 32 and I took his lines at the dock. Kevin stuck out in the sailing community of La Cruz because of his young age. He reminded me of myself when I went cruising in my 20s and I really wanted to talk to him about his experience cruising a young person and seeing how he made that happen. He's currently crossing the Pacific from Mexico to the Marquesas and I'm hoping we can reconnect in French Polynesia.

Split market action Grain under pressure South American export & production numbers Managed money going forward Better than expected cash Sale barn strong
The grain markets are watching several pivotal factors this week, with money management strategies potentially being the biggest influence. Last week, China purchased about half of its grain needs from the U.S., underscoring the ongoing influence of the Chinese economy on commodity trade. South American weather is improving, leading to favorable growing conditions that may support their yields and impact global grain supply. In livestock, both live and feeder cattle have seen interest from large buyers, helping support prices in recent days. However, questions remain about the durability of this rebound; a shift in fundamentals could put pressure on prices if it were to turn negative. The cattle market's next steps will largely depend on whether this momentum can hold.
Grain markets were softer overall this week, with soybeans leading the pullback. Seasonals suggest some pressure is typical during this period, while harvest is moving ahead of last year's pace. A big question looming is where to store the grain—could this become a market issue as supplies increase? On the cattle side, the cash market remains a key focus. Livestock saw both sides of the trade throughout the week but managed to finish higher, showing some resilience despite broader market softness.

Today's episode is about a topic that may be unfamiliar to many. My guest shares her journey through her first pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, along with why she chose a very different scenario called free birth to welcome her second child into the world. Join us to learn more! Alexa Ericson shares why she chose a free birth for her second child, what that is, and how that choice worked out for her. She explains how she found comfort through writing and decided to put her experiences into a book–with the hopes of helping other women. Her book of poetry, Motherhood, Disenchanted, covers “adventures into the nitty-gritty, sleep-deprived, chaotic, and sometimes dark thoughts that come fluttering through the early years of mothering.” After back-to-back pregnancies and years of isolated mothering due to her location and lockdowns, she felt a major gap in the discussion around the raw and tough, intimate moments of motherhood. Alexa used her writing as a form of catharsis and a way to work through difficulties. In this conversation, she discusses her marriage, body changes, breastfeeding, anxiety, exhaustion, loss of self, and more. Alexa lives in Fort Collins, Colorado, with her farmer husband and two kids. Show Highlights: Alexa's story: how she, as someone with doula training, made her birth plan for her first child (born in 2019) with midwives, a doula, and a home birth The reality of birth in the middle of a big storm, power outage, and a situation that felt out of control Alexa's overall account of her midwife experience A downhill slide after her baby was born—and she was left with very few options and very little information Alexa's very difficult intro to motherhood with anxiety and overwhelm Writing: the best lifeline for Alexa Motherhood messaging in our society and on social media–and why real-life experiences don't usually measure up Alexa's second pregnancy, when her first son was only 5 months old Free birth–a birth with no medical professionals present Alexa's second birth story: a healing and peaceful experience with no rules, regulations, regimented prenatal care, or manipulation by medical providers Hear Alexa share two poems from her book! Alexa's advice to other women: “If you aren't feeling strong, try writing about it and get those thoughts out. It can help to put them on paper.” Resources: Connect with Alexa Ericson: Website, Instagram, and Motherhood, Disenchanted book Visit www.postpartum.net for resources and support! Pay attention to three things: DKIM, SPF, DMARK. those things should all say pass. If any of those say fail or neutral, or in some cases if your DMARK doesn't even show up, that is a red flag. That basically means you are failing one of the three kinds of verifications, more or less. 2. Quality is always more important than quantity. Everybody wants a really big list, but at the end of the day you got to make sure that they want to be there and they're excited. 3. Understand that you can try and reengage those other people later.
