We Are God's Construction Project Being conformed to the image of Christ is not something that happens apart from others. We need the Holy Spirit . . . and each other. The Spirit transforms us as we pursue Jesus together, in unity. Join us as Pastor Tim Boucher continues our sermon series, “Work in Progress.”

“Do as I do, be as I am. “ Jesus Christ “When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.” Paulo Coelho (author of The Alchemist) Sometimes we forget who we are. Sometimes we think, is this all there is? And if that is true, what is the point of all of this? We all can feel stuck. Trapped even. Unable to get out of the web of the choices we made to get to this point. And then when you are so wrapped in that silky meshy mess, panicking that the gross scary spider is going to come and get you that you lose sight of everything but the panic! The fear! The NEED to get OUT before the monster gets you! Then before you know it, this is what your life is - survival and fear. Trapped in a web and trying to get out. No longer are you actually going anywhere. You are just GETTING OUT. But “getting out” is not a destination. And OUT! Is driven by fear which has us thrashing around so much that we just wrap the web even thigh around ourselves so it is now even harder to achieve. It is like one of those Chinese finger traps, you played with as a kid - the harder you pull against it, the tighter it binds you. But if we stop thrashing and fighting and fearing The Monster (the unknown). If we breathe and take a moment and ask ourselves. Where am I? Who am I? Where am I going? What do I actually want? Where do I want to go? What do I WANT to be doing right now? (in the positive, the answer can't be ESCAPING or ESCAPISM behavior). If all options are on the table, what would I actually choose to be doing to spend my time if I wasn't so scared and spending all my energy beating back the tides of change, fear, and all the things I don't want? If you could articulate in the positive a destination. I want to be writing a book. I want to go to the gym twice a week. I want a job that fulfills me. I want to have a conversation with my partner. I want an abundant family. I want to laugh. Do you see where I am going with this? What can you articulate in the positive? What do you aspire for yourself? And yeah maybe your mind will say it's a pipe dream. But you know what? It is YOUR pipe dream. And if it brings you joy and light - why is it silly to aspire for that, and to do that, instead of just surviving? instead of just “getting away from THIS.” Because running away is not a destination. Getting away is not a goal. It is running from the monster. Running away from the monster is not running to something at all - it is getting you lost deeper in the woods and going right into the belly of the beast. If you feel trapped and depressed or scared of what is to come. What if you were not spending all of your time on surviving, on beating back the fear, or trying to get away? If you hate your job and every night you come home and drink a bottle of wine - what is that doing? That is just numbing the pain from the job you hate. Is it getting you a new job that is fulfilling? Is it raising your vibration to a place where you can see a new alternative? Is it giving you anything but escape? Yeah you are surviving the pain. But is that a life? Surviving and enslaved to something you hate? Our negative ego is a real motherfucker. It makes us believe that running away is a solution. It says STAY SAFE! Don't leave this box. HIDE! Outside this box is failure - is the inability to pay your bills. Outside, is the eternal question, are you dying alone? Because it says you are not good enough. You don't deserve nice things. You are not capable. No one likes you. That is for other people. Other people write books, other people take fabulous vacations, other people get graduate degrees and careers they actually enjoy. It is an insidious record that keeps playing over and over again - that keeps you thrashing in the spider web you spun yourself. Keeps you making choices that keep you trapped in a cycle of fear and miserable-ness and not progressing toward something that will actually bring you satisfaction and joy. And here is the secret. It is not in some new age book from the early 2000s called, The Secret or even just positive thinking, or in that next social media influencers webinar about the 10 steps to financial freedom and happiness. It is none of those things. It is in the most simple (but hard to practice) axiom of Know Thyself. Know thyself as God. Know thy own needs and wants. Your thoughts create your reality. Hermetic Principle #1 - All is Mind. 99% of your success in creating a change in your life comes from how you feel about the situation because every feeling creates a thought, and every thought is acted upon. So if we feel good about where we are going, and are actually consciously choosing where we are going, and know in your heart of hearts that where you are going is what you actually want to do - then you will follow that gratitude filled feeling, into a gratitude and hope filled thought, then apply consistency and discipline to carry out actions daily (little bits every day) that get you somewhere new that you actually WANT to be. And after some effort you will find yourself free of your bondage and looking forward to even more amazing things as you take action in the present moment. But until YOU CHOOSE an actual DESTINATION that you want and desire then you will never ever be able to get there. Because no one ever gets anywhere when you are running away from your life. This is your life. You only get one. What do you want to be spending your precious minutes on? How much time and energy have you spent beating back the fear? What is the worst that could happen if you paused and surrendered to whatever you are avoiding and chose what you actually want? Then and only then do you realize just how futile and useless the fight that fear is. How irrelevant - and that all your writhing and drama and gesticulation was just an ugly dance that you can stop. And finally, with clarity and simplicity you can step out from by deciding with discernment and your will to set your mind, your thoughts, words and acts toward the true desire you have in your heart of hearts, for the best and highest good. Then you will be free of the bonds of the web you wove. The box you stapled yourself into and you can live as the god/goddess you truly are and start creating your reality. And THIS is the magick that Jesus spoke of and embodied as a Hermetic teacher. This is why he was able to create miracles - and was trying to teach us to do the same. “Do as I do. Be as I am.” “Everything I can do, you can do and more.” Jesus Christ was a Hermetic Teacher. When he was alive there was no such thing as Christianity. There was Judaism and Jesus was ethnically Hebrew and he is referred to as a Rabbi but he wasn't Jewish either. In the annals of time and translation rabbi simply meant teacher. And Jesus was just that - a teacher of Hermetics. Hermetics and any Hermetic principle is from the mind of God. It is the understanding of God's mind without human pollution. If it is Hermetic it will benefit people and always be good. Because God does no harm. Hermetics creates clarity which simplifies life - thus increasing our potential to act as God in this life. Whereas the human mind creates complications and traps us in fictions and stories. And ultimately this is what Jesus was teaching - and like good humans we have complicated his words and made a religion out of him which separates what he could do from what we can do. Which is the exact opposite of his teaching. “Do as I do. Be as I am.” In other words “Act like the God/Goddess you are. Master your mind by doing the will of God.” Jesus was and is one of the greatest teachers for humanity in all time - and as a master of light he mastered his negative ego completely in this physical life and as a result could create miracles. He used every single one of his gifts as a human being for its intended purpose in its intended way. And although he was special (because he had a unique mission to bring the ray of love and compassion to this planet for all of us to experience) his message to all of us was that HE WAS NOT SPECIAL. In that everything he could do, we can do. Our job is to LISTEN to him, to take him as an example of possibility and to start living that possibility. And through his teachings become the teachings - just as he was. Now he did some amazing party tricks (though turning water into wine back in the day just made the water safe to drink) he also defied the laws of physics, cleared negativity, and cured the sick. However, the potential to do all of this is within us as well. And humans have created miracles again and again. The examples we have from the gospels (albeit told through the lens of religion, politics, two hundred or more years, translation from aramaic to greek to latin to english) are examples of a clear will (desire from a place of purity) applied with the rules of Hermetics and the power inherent in this existence as a fully actualized human being connected to spirit acknowledging our power as God - you can have a major impact on this physical world. You can defy the laws of physics. You can create miracles. You can just simply live a joyful life. But it all starts by setting your will in motion and remembering that you are god. You are a powerful being that can affect your reality through your feelings, thoughts, choices and actions. With Jesus we weren't supposed to start a religion. We were supposed to discern. To learn. To follow in his footsteps versus follow him. If we say “Jesus take the wheel!” you abdicate responsibility for your life and that is in the exact opposite of what he was getting at for us. Did we ever hear of Jesus saying “Father DO everything FOR me?” Yet we do this all the time with Jesus, with our jobs, by blaming other people, by pouring our sorrows into a bottle or any other substance. We abdicate our responsibility and we run away to our hiding place prison and we stay safe in our survival mechanisms. Bringing me back to my point. All of us forget how powerful we are from time to time. Or maybe we have no fucking clue we have any power at all. We forget or are completely ignorant that in most cases we actually hold the keys to let ourselves out from our chosen prison. We are all at some point like the figures in the The Devil card of the Rider Waite Tarot deck -held in chains to a big hairy winged beast of a problem but the chains are actually loose enough to simply lift off of our necks, if we desire to remove them. We chain ourselves to the false God (the thing outside of ourselves that is not us). We chain ourselves to the Devil, to a demon, to a false idol, we make something or something else God, and we deny our own power. We say we have no choice. We had to. I need this escape to cope because I can't leave him or her. I can't leave my job. I'll die if I remove the chains of slavery. But you won't - the truth is you've abdicated your power and voluntarily chained yourself to the external thing and forgotten your power as God. As the author of your story. As the determinant of your own destiny. Then you've focused on staying safe, or getting away, or NOT being in the chains you feel trapped in. I've been personally chewing on all of this because recently I felt a little bit trapped by my own circumstances. Even though I KNEW LOGICALLY that it was all my choice and all really for the good. But in preparing for the Florida Bar Exam for over 7 months it started to take a toll on me and I began to forget why I was doing it. And as my ability to focus on my business was distracted by study, my partner's health, my own arthritis pain, my sense of lack when some things didn't go as planned and I was disappointed by some individuals. I spent every last bit of my effort preparing for the test then used what little I had left to move twice and learn how to be in a new cohabitation situation. And with my distractions and the challenges - I stopped flowing the normal abundant client load I usually do for a myriad of reasons. And of course I started getting concerned that I didn't have enough time or money and my thoughts and feelings turned to lack and fear and this just enhanced the worry and lack and thus had me starting to feel trapped. Trapped because passing the bar is a big slow thing and Seattle is far away from my home in Florida, and trapped because I have to be vulnerable in my relationship and I can't run away anymore. And trapped because I have to communicate about my finances and don't have the same overflow I'm used to. All of these things were not helpful. Because I said before 99% of your success is how you FEEL about something versus the actual tactical logical work you put into it. So here I was working in a way that SHOULD have resulted in my usual flow but it wasn't - but the thing that was off was my fear. It was my lack mentality. Plans are definitely still helpful but your own thoughts will destroy the best plan. So as long as I feel scared and trapped and in lack, that is the energy I am going to attract. And no one wants a worried estate planning attorney or an abundance & flow coach who is in lack. But luckily I have a practice and a path to follow and a community of lightworkers to recharge in. I have teachings and things to study that can bring me around and back to my core purpose, strengthen my will, and turn me back to gratitude. So this trap was a brief mindset blip and now that I'm out of the gauntlet I can actually start holding gratitude for the bar exam and the time to work on client flow, teamwork with my new team members and communication with my love and life partner. I remember why I am doing this work. My law license allows me to help so many families create plans that will protect them in their time of need. And my purpose and mission in light work helps me remember I am not trapped. I am choosing this. I will allow the will of God to flow through me. And use Jesus as a light and as a master teacher guiding my heart in every moment. Because that is where he has been since I was a small child, guiding me to live as he lived. Do as he did. To be in my life an embodiment of his teachings in my unique way in this physical life. There is nothing to run away from. I am not stuck in any trap. I choose everything and I can remove any obstacle. And I have built a beautiful life based on my choices and I will continue to do so. A joyful life doesn't result from things being easy or handed to you - in fact sometimes the hardest things in life bring the most value. I laugh as I wonder which was harder? The Florida Bar exam or being vulnerable and in true partnership with another human being. . To be honest, I know it is the latter. Taking a test and getting a piece of paper is easy. I've done it time and time again. Helping people as a lawyer is easy. I've done it time and time again. But being in a relationship with someone I love and who loves me, growing myself and actualizing myself as an authentic human being is incredibly challenging! Don't get me wrong - I have prayed and manifested this type of partnership and love, but that doesn't make it not terrifying. To be even more honest, sometimes coexisting and being in real love with my person, scares the living shit out of me. Because my negative ego is constantly being proved wrong. I am lovable separate from the things I provide to people in this world. What a concept? I feel like - even now I have to say it twice to truly believe it. I AM LOVEABLE DESPITE WHAT SERVICE I CAN PROVIDE FOR OTHERS! … and you are too. I am God. YOU ARE GOD. WE ARE GOD. Fully worthy of giving and receiving tremendous amounts of love + prosperity. So let's start creating some miracles - shall we? The homework for this episode is simple - well that is, if you allow it to be. Love yourself like your life depends on it - because it does. Know Thyself. Know God. Do as God would do. And CHOOSE to love yourself more than your struggle. Don't overthink it - just start - a small change in the right direction can make a huge impact. And if you get lost along the way and need further inspiration - I can help with that! Drop me a line at angel@LatterellLaw.com. I will leave you in the words of author Roald Dahl “And above all watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magick will never find it.”
January 29, 2024 Daily Devotion: "We Are God's People" Isaiah 64:8-9 English Standard Version 8 But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand. 9 Be not so terribly angry, O Lord, and remember not iniquity forever. Behold, please look, we are all your people. While the Lord is sovereign, He is also loving, gracious, and thorough—and that influences how He shapes us. Just as a potter works the clay with patience, God forms our Christlike character slowly—one experience at a time. He knows that spiritual maturity can't be rushed. And just as clay can slip from the middle of the wheel, we too might find ourselves off-center from time to time—whether due to an old wound, a new hardship, a recurring habit, or something else. However, we don't have to worry. In His grace, God always maneuvers the drifting believer back into position and begins remolding. He never discards His vessels but patiently works to mold them. Our Father is a personal Potter. His creations reflect Him, and His Spirit is poured into each believing vessel so He can be an intimate part of our life. The result is a work of true beauty—a saint dearly loved by the Lord. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/gerzon-etino/message

Todd Peterson started his career with 13 years in the NFL, but has since become a powerhouse in fueling the bible translation movement and encouraging others towards radical generosity. When Todd was drafted by the NY Giants in 1993, he was initially distracted by the excitement of a substantial income. However, God got Todd's attention with a dramatic wake-up call after his rookie year. From that point on, Todd and his wife Susan dedicated themselves to the exciting adventure God had in store for them. Throughout his NFL career, Todd and Susan delved deep into their generosity journey and began drawing others into that journey with them. Since he retired from the NFL in 2006, Todd has become significantly involved in many organizations in the generosity and bible translation spaces. From 2008-2013, Todd served as Chairman of Seed Company, one of the leading bible translation ministries. And through his involvement, he was able to participate in the formation of the IllumiNations impact alliance between 11 major bible translation organizations. Because of that collaboration, it is anticipated that the bible will be accessible to every language spoken on Earth by the year 2033. In Todd's words, “The last bible translator is alive today.” Todd has served on numerous other boards including Global Generosity Movement, Passion Conferences, the Young Life Foundation, and Pro Athletes Outreach and has a depth of wisdom in living out radical generosity. Todd shared plenty of wisdom on topics like honing your giving focus and how to do more than write a check. Even more interestingly, Todd shared his unique insight into the relationship between givers and ministries, having spent significant time on both sides of the field. Listen now to hear all Todd had to share. QUOTES TO REMEMBER “We very early on saw the NFL as a mission field and we were very highly compensated missionaries in a sense.” “You can't really be a man of humility until you've been humiliated.” “I'm never going to make another penny before we give to God first.” When the income really started to come, we were better prepared for it because we had made a decision that we were going to give first.” “As our income increases, our lifestyle doesn't have to grow with it.” “My NFL career, all 13 years, felt like God had a plan for my life.” “At the end of the day, what we're supposed to be doing with our lives is giving them away.” “We want to life full and abundant life and experience all God has for us. And the best way we knew how to do that was to hold things loosely.” “Football was one thing that God gave me a talent for, but it wasn't the only thing he created me to do.” “We are people who really want to be invested in every sense of the word. We don't want to simply write a check to an organization.” “All ministry hinges on the power of the gospel in the language of a person.” “Could there be a greater injustice than not having access to the Gospel in your language?” “By 2033, we can eradicate bible poverty, meaning every language on Earth has access to at least some portion of the scripture translated.” “We believe in the bible translation world that the last bible translator is alive now.” LINKS FROM THE SHOW Safely Home, by Randy Alcorn The IllumiNations Bible Translation Collaboration Finishing the Task (see our interview with Global Church Planting Strategist Dan Hitzhusen from FTT) Seed Company The Finish Line Community Facebook Group The Finish Line Community LinkedIn Group BIBLE REFERENCES FROM THE SHOW Matt. 16:25 | Whoever Seeks to Save His Life For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. Over more than 40 years, Dad ministered to countless people who were battling cancer. He ministered to many people who were dying of it. He ministered to their families. He eulogized them at their funerals. Then, in August 2016, Dad heard the words that so many of us dread hearing: “You have cancer.” Almost overnight, Dad went from being the one who ministered to cancer patients to a cancer patient needing ministry himself. What was it like to be caught in this role reversal? How did cancer change the way Dad thought about the church, ministry, and God? Check out Dad's book, We Are God's Masterpiece, now. This is a manual and workbook for church leaders and members to use to discover their spiritual gifts and how they work together to build the body of Christ.

Most young ministers start out dreaming of being “The Guy” at the head of a growing congregation. Dad had that experience. It burned him out and eventually almost hollowed out the congregation he served for more than two decades. By the time Dad was ready to go to work with his fifth and final congregation at the age of 58, he was humbler and wiser. He wanted to be just an associate minister, working behind the scenes to increase member involvement at the Athens Church of Christ in Athens, Tennessee. There, Dad put a lifetime of ministry experience to work to help members find and use their spiritual gifts to build up the church. If you find these conversations with Dad useful and valuable, I recommend you pick up a copy of Dad's book, We Are God's Masterpiece, now on sale amazon.com. All of the lessons Dad learned about congregational health and the growth of individual Christians in the church comes together in this book. It's a guide for church leaders and members to discover their spiritual gifts and put them to work together to grow the body of Christ.

After almost three years as a part-time minister for the small Church of Christ congregation in Brushy, Tennessee, Dad and Mom both knew he was ready to go back to full-time ministry work. They committed to finding a situation that would make it easier for Dad to stick to the healthier lifestyle and ministry habits he learned after his burnout in 2003. He also had a whole new philosophy of ministry and he needed to go to work with a congregation that was open to it. Oh, and he had several more “must-haves” on his list (you'll hear them in the interview). In short, Dad was looking for a situation that most Church of Christ leaders would have told him doesn't exist. Dad, however, prayed and persevered and it paid off. If you find these conversations with Dad useful and valuable, I recommend you pick up a copy of Dad's book, We Are God's Masterpiece, now on sale amazon.com. All of the lessons Dad learned about congregational health and the growth of individual Christians in the church comes together in this book. In this episode, we pick up around the start of 2005, a little more than one year after Dad crashed and burned after 22 ½ years ministering to the Steele Avenue Church of Christ in Ashland, Ohio. After a year of sabbatical from ministry, Dad and Mom started to feel like he was ready to start easing back into his calling to serve the local church. They both wanted to be very careful to keep Dad from making the same mistakes at his next ministry that he made with the Steele Avenue Church of Christ. So they set some very specific boundaries and criteria and started looking for just the right place. That search led them to a little congregation in a place so small it doesn't even show up on the map. But it turned out to be the perfect place at the perfect time. Check out Dad's book, We Are God's Masterpiece, at amazon.com. It's a handy resource and study guide for individual Christians and for whole churches. We Are God's Children1 John 3:2 “Beloved, we are God's children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is.”This first line is something I think a lot of us forget and it's something the enemy definitely tries to make us forget. We are God's children. You are a child of God. It is super important that you remember this? It is important because the enemy is going to try to make your forget. He is going to try to make you feel alone. He is going to try to make you feel like you have no one. This is one of his specialties. He takes whatever it is you are going through and he tells you that you are alone, no one can understand what you are going through, so don't bother talking about it to anyone. He makes you feel as though if you spoke up to your friends then you would be bothering them. He whispers things in your ear that no one cares, that they are better off without you, that you are a burden. The enemy is a liar. You are a child of God. You are a part of something bigger than you could even imagine. I thought I had a large family since I am 1 of 11 children. That is nothing compared to the family of God. We are all God's children. That makes us all brothers and sisters. Are you showing love to our brothers and sisters? Are we treating each other like we are children of God? God made us as social creatures. We are not meant to go through life a lone. We are meant to be in community. If you are feeling alone right now, that is what the enemy wants. Fight back. Find a community. There are many churches our there. Find one that feels right for you. You may attend one church and if you don't feel at home there, try another one. I would also suggest that you get involved in the church. Volunteer to help out with something. Even if you just pick one things. You could volunteer to be a reader, or a eucharistic minister, a greeter, or the person that passes the basket around. Whatever your interests are, there is probably a way to use them to help out your church. This is a great way to not only help others, but find more of a sense of belonging. The next part of this verse is something that I think we can struggle with sometimes. The verse says, “what we will be has not yet been revealed.” We can struggle with this because we want to know everything up front. We want all the details, we don't particularly like all the twists and turns in the road. If we really think about it though, this could be exciting. What we will be has not net been revealed. This means we could be anything. What do you want to be? What do you envision your future to hold? Matthew 19:26 says, “With God all things are possible.” What would you want to do with your life if nothing was impossible? If all restraints and obstacles were removed, what is your heart's desire? It says in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Do you see God telling us over and over again that if we rely on Him, nothing is impossible.Sometimes we get frustrated with where we are in life. We are not where we want to be. This could be in all areas, we are not as rich as we would like, we are not as successful as we would like, we are not as happy as we would like. We get frustrated because we know we could do more, have more and yet we don't. If this is the case, we could take comfort in this verse. “What we will be has not yet be revealed.” We are still growing. We are constantly growing and changing until the end of time. If you are not happy with where you are at then that means that God is not done with you yet. You are a work in progress and His plan is still in motion. God has amazing plans for each one of us and those plans are revealed at all different times. Some people know when they are young what God's plan for their life is, and some of us it takes a really long time. Either way, we need to trust that there is a plan and if we haven't found our purpose, or our calling yet, then God will reveal it to us in His time, not ours. The verse ends with, “What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is.” From what I have read, this part of the verse is referring to the second coming of Jesus. When Jesus comes back to judge the living and the dead, then we will see Him as He is and we will be like Him. Wouldn't that be great if we could be like Jesus? I had a friend tell me this weekend that she feels like it is more possible for her to be like John the Baptist, living in the wilderness than it would be to be like Jesus. Jesus was perfect, He was without sin. How do try to emulate that? Even if we strive for perfection we will never be in the same league as Jesus. I totally get what she is saying. The bar is set pretty high if we are to be like Jesus. John the Baptist was living in the wilderness. He was living separate from the world, other than those that came to see him, get baptized by him and to listen to him talk. Living apart from the world seems so appealing at times. I think when we are alone in nature, we have the tendency to sin a lot less. When we are apart from the world that doesn't understand Christianity and questions all we do, then we find it easier to follow the Lord. I am sure it wasn't easy living in the wilderness. I have no idea if he had a bed to sleep on or if he slept on the ground. I do know he ate locusts and wild honey. I can imagine that was a difficult diet to live off of. Even with all of that, I wonder if that life, as unglamorous and probably uncomfortable as it was, is better than a life lived among those in the world. It is so hard to find quite time to pray in this busy world. It is hard to do what the Lord tells us is right when there are so many others telling us it is wrong. We have so many outside voices coming into our homes and into phones. The steady stream of information can feel overwhelming and much of what we are hearing and seeing is contrary to what we believe. I could see how being more like John the Baptist could be easier and more attainable. Here's a secret though, God isn't expecting perfection from us. He just wants us to keep trying. He created us, He has known us since before we were born, He knows we are not perfect. Jesus is love and that is what the world needs to see. Our goal is to reflect Jesus' love back to the world. Some of us were called to live apart from the world, and yet most of us are called to live among the world and yet remember that we are set apart. We are challenged to live our faith in this broken world. This is difficult if we keep our eyes on all those around us. However, if we keep our eyes fixed on the Lord and we remember to put Him first, then He will help us. He will make all things possible for us. Dear Heavenly Father, I ask that you bless all those listening to this episode today. Lord, we love you and we know that you have good plans for us. We thank you for those plans. Lord, we ask you to give us the grace to have patience while we wait for your plans to be revealed. We ask for the grace to see that all things are possible through you. We ask you to help us love our brothers and sisters. Help us to love those that are hard to love. Help us to feel as though we are not alone. Lord, there are so many that feel alone, even with 7 billion people on this planet. Please fill all those that are lonely with your love. Help them to ignore the enemy and realize that he is a liar. Help them to see that the world is a better place because they are here. Lord, you are so amazing and we love you so very much. We are grateful for all you do for us and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, Amen!Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. I look forward to spending time with you again tomorrow. Have a blessed day!
February 09 2022 Wednesday Week 34 In Him Scripture Study We Are God's Chosen Through Him Ephesians 1:15-23 NLT 'Ever since I first heard of your strong faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for God's people everywhere, I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God's power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God's right hand in the heavenly realms. Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come. God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.' Ephesians 3:14-21 NLT 'When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.' In this episode, Mom joins Dad to tell the story about the day he reached his breaking point as the minister to the Steele Avenue Church of Christ in Ashland, Ohio. Before that day, Dad seemed to have at least some small sense that he was trying to do too much and that, sooner or later, something had to give. Then, on a normal workday in July 2003, Dad had a total breakdown. All systems in his body and brain just…stopped working. He curled into the fetal position on the couch in his basement and waited to succumb to whatever had him in its grip. Those scary moments in the basement finally got Dad to admit that he needed help, but when help presented itself, would Dad take it? This is the story of how one minister's extraordinarily successful 22 years with the congregation he loved collapsed into a painful end. This is Minister in the Making Episode #30: Fetal position. To participate in the upcoming live retrospective episode on Dad's time with the Steele Avenue Church of Christ, please email your questions and thoughts to bt@btirwin.com by Monday, January 24, 2022. Please be sure to check out Dad's book, We Are God's Masterpiece, at amazon.com. Updates on Dad's cancer treatments and prognosis are here.
When Dad arrived in Ashland, Ohio, in August 1981, the Church of Christ that met at 323 Steele Avenue comprised about 150 members. Almost 20 years later, the congregation's membership swelled to almost 350. The building was bursting at the seams, people could not find a place to park on Sunday mornings, and there was not one more inch of space left in which to grow. So, in the mid-1990s, the elders of the Steele Avenue Church of Christ began a long campaign to raise funds, purchase property, and build a new campus on West Main Street in Ashland. The congregation was enthusiastic in its support for this goal. But as hard work and hope pointed to a brighter future than anyone once imagined for the congregation, Dad's world was growing darker and darker with each passing year. As the congregation gave more and more money and plans moved closer and closer to putting shovels in the ground, Dad was putting himself under greater and greater pressure to meet impossibly high expectations. The church was getting ready to build, but Dad was tearing himself down. What was happening? And why? If you want me to ask Dad a specific question in a future episode, please email it to me at bt@btirwin.com. Don't forget to check out Dad's new book, We Are God's Masterpiece, at amazon.com. Keep track of Dad's cancer treatments here.
Today, Thursday July 29 “We Are God's Children Now” 1 John 3:1-3 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure. When I was a young kid growing up in the state of Texas, my dad was a pastor and we were very poor. I have often said, “That the poor people called us poor.” We also moved so frequently that I never felt like I had any friends or was ever accepted by the kids around me. (I went to thirteen different school by the time I graduated.) So, I lived in my own little world and would often daydream what it would be like to have a powerful rich daddy, maybe who was even the President of the United States. It was a fantasy world! Of course that never happen for me as a child, but one day, February 21, 1971, as a nineteen year old teenager, in Cincinnati Ohio, I found Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior and I was born again into a new family! The family of God. John reminds us here in these verses that this happened because of God's great love for us. He wrote in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever would believe in Him would not perish, but have eternal life.” God's love does not save me but it was His love that sent His Son to pay the price for my sins which was death on a cross! And now He can save me because the sin price has been satisfied and if I receive Him, He does a wonderful miracle. Paul wrote about this in Colossians 1:13-14, “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” John says it this way in John 1:12-13, “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.” At the moment of our new birth we are transferred from the family of the devil into the family of God and “we are God's children now…” (v. 2). Present tense, not some day in the future!!!!! What can I say!!!!!! My Father created the universe, He is in charge of everything, and He owns everything! And He calls me His beloved child! I am eternally loved and accepted by Him! We can now love God, because He first loved us! (1 John 4:19) Oh, my friend, be encouraged to know, that if you have received Jesus as your Savior, God calls you His child! And this is not a fantasy world! It is the “real deal!” Awesome!!!!! God bless!
I think it's safe to say we all want to lead productive lives. We want to give ourselves to people and projects that add meaning and joy to our lives and there's. That's why it can be frustrating when you come to the end of your day, and there are still things left to do. There are unfinished projects and plans. There are unreturned emails and phone calls. It can be frustrating to end your day like that. Do you suppose Jesus had unfinished business at the end of his day and if so, did it frustrate him? To answer that question, we'll look at a day in the life of Jesus from Mark 1. What we'll see there may surprise you and will definitely encourage you as you head into the new year. To come prepared for the sermon take time this week to read and to meditate upon Mark 1. In worship this week, we'll sing about the angelic birth announcement of Jesus in "Angels We Have Heard on High," be encouraged by the triumphant birth of Christ in "Good Christian Men, Rejoice!" and be reminded that Jesus has saved us into his family, which is "diverse, yet truly one," as we sing "We Are God's People." Julie Haley will also be singing a stirring rendition of "O Holy Night" for our Offertory Anthem that will have us falling to our knees in awe and praise of the gospel's hope and power. Text: Mark 1:35-39 Title: Unfinished Business Outline: Intimacy with God informs our identity Intimacy with God informs our priorities
We cover three Alec Baldwin thrillers in depth, tell some jokes, do some Baldwin impressions and are never sick at sea. You ask us if we have a God complex? Let me tell you something: WE ARE GOD. MALICE (1993, Harold Becker) THE JUROR (1996, Brian Gibson) HEAVEN'S PRISONERS (1996, Phil Joanou)
One of our goals in sharing the teachings of the ascended masters with you is to build a foundation of spiritual Truth upon which everything else depends. One central and essential cornerstone of this goal is the understanding that God is Life/Life is God. It doesn't get any more simple or basic than that. Everything that lives is animated by God's energy. Everything in God's creation is powered by His very Life force. This makes us, in the most literal sense, co-creators with God, because our every thought, word and deed is enlivened by and through the presence of God's energy. This makes life a marvelous divine opportunity full of hope, love and an ultimate destiny which transcends all mortal dreams: reunion with the heart of God. This makes it imperative that every disciple of Light transmutes whatever outer condition seeks to corrupt the Life principle. It must become a permanent idea that life for each of us is a manifestation of God. Because that is who we really are!
