This week on WI Sports Tap List, brought to you by Tapping The Keg Sports, we're diving into the Brewers' sudden revival — what's sparked the turnaround? Christian Yelich Yelich is heating up, Durbin and Ortiz are waking up, and the team finally seems unfazed by early deficits. With healthier arms and a top-5 OPS over the last 15 days, we break down if this is sustainable — and how far off they really are from the Cubs. Plus: Bobby Portis' extension — what it means long-term Giannis Antetokounmpo + Toronto — Is there anything to worry about Frank Ragnow's retirement — a massive shift in the NFC North Are the Packers at real risk of missing the playoffs? The ongoing search for a new West Allis dive bar What Charlie is watching on TV Grab a drink and tap in — it's all happening on WI Sports Tap List.
Kewaunee, Hayward, West Allis and Wausau were the gathering points for the Joint Finance Committees "Road Show", and turnout was strong - especially in Wausau. Wisconsin Senator Patrick Testin (R-Stevens Point) is the current chair of the Senate Agriculture and Revenue committee, and a member of the JFC. He tells Pam Jahnke about some of the programs that were singled out by attendees during the town hall conversations. Testin said ARIP, the Agricultural Road Improvement Program, was one that received tremendous support.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The next budget hearing is this Friday, April 4, in West Allis.
Why does Senator Cory Booker's filibuster this week matter and how is it connected to the Wisconsin election this Tuesday? We take a deep dive in the epic State Supreme Court election that saw a landslide win for Citizen Action endorsed Susan Crawford. The victory was essential to the future of the state with the balance of the court at stake. However, we discuss our concern with the current playbook that clearly can deliver progressive court candidate victories, but with high spending shit shows where virtually all paid communication is trashy crime and sexual predator ads that debase and erode the credibility of the court, a vital pillar of our democracy. And what about Elon? We review the first Joint Finance Committee public hearing on the State Budget this Wednesday and heads to West Allis' State Fair Park this Friday. At the hearing, support for funding Medicaid and increasing public education dollars dominated public testimony. We welcome Milwaukee County Supervisor Anne O'Connor to discuss her support for the Milwaukee County Climate Action Plan which is up for a vote in April and her opposition to the proposed We Energies gas plants that are at odds with the County's Climate plan goals.
It's time to get out the vote in Wisconsin for the Spring Election. We review news that the state supreme court race will shatter all spending records for the prized judicial seat that will determine control of the state' highest court. We discuss the critical importance of talking directly to potential voters the final 4 days and encourage our listeners to volunteer with Citizen Action on phones or doors. RSVP to talk to voters. Next week is the start of the Joint Finance Committee public hearings on the State Budget, next Wednesday in Kaukauna and Friday in West Allis. We encourage people in each area to consider attending in support of expanding BadgerCare and other state budget priorities. We welcome back to the show, Timothy Faust, Citizen Action's healthcare coordinator, who just returned from a week-long tour of rural Wisconsin hosting Hands Off Medicaid Town Halls to organize opposition to Congressional Republicans proposed cuts to Medicaid. Contact Tim: Timothy.Faust@citizenactionwi.org We close the show with a review of this week's PSC public hearing on We Energies desire to build polluting gas plants. Robert educates us on why the gas plant is a bad idea.

Listen ...You just want to hear this story about what's happening in the good town of West Allis, Wisconsin.
While the buzz has largely been on the national scene with department cuts and program elimination, here in Wisconsin work is quietly ongoing to craft budget plans and programs. Ben Jarboe gets an update on one senator's perspective and objectives. Senator Brad Pfaff grew up in agriculture and was temporary Secretary of Agriculture at WDATCP. He explains to Jarboe what his targets are for agriculture policy and programs moving forward with big emphasis on rural healthcare and more domestic use of products. We've got a little bit of everything coming to Wisconsin weatherwise this week. Stu Muck breaks down what clothes you'll need to stay warm. Sandy Madland is a first generation dairy farmer that shares her voice on the Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin board of directors. Madland farms outside of Lyndon Station but grew up in the West Allis area - removed from agriculture. She tells Charitee Seebecker about the ongoing programs farmers and consumers may notice that elevate awareness of Wisconsin dairy including the current campaign with the WIAA sporting events. Paid for by Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin. Most of us plan and look forward to retirement, but that may not be the case for farmers. Their identity is tied with the farm, the livestock, the daily tasks they perform and it can be tough to decouple from all that. Stephanie Hoff takes a closer look at how to deal with those challenges, and what options might work with University of Missouri Extension Farm Transition Specialist Wesley Tucker. Tucker was a guest at the Professional Dairy Producers annual business meeting in Madison. He says he helps explain ways individuals can maintain their identity as a farmer after "retirement" by transitioning to a role as an advisor/coach/mentor. They may even have more value in this position than when they were calling the shots. It's rare for a farmer to be able to let go of the farm completely. From a mental health standpoint, they need to have a sense of purpose with the farm.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Sandy Williams and Earl Ingram have dedicated the past hour to discussing the topic of freedom of speech. They are advocating for the cessation of government funding and resources that are utilized to violate individuals' legal rights. A caller has raised concerns regarding the broadcasting practices of PBS in comparison to those of NBC and ABC. Additionally, Mr. Martin O'Malley has remarked on the suggested 12% reductions to social security, emphasizing that such cuts could lead to an estimated loss of 70,000 jobs. The phone lines are becoming increasingly busy as Robert from West Allis contributes to the discussion on cryptocurrency, focusing on its potential to remain untraceable and separate from criminal activities. There are also concerns about the removal of black history and women from military photographs in the database, retaining only images of Caucasian military personnel. The Earl Ingram Show is a part of the Civic Media radio network and airs Monday through Friday from 8-10 am across the state. Subscribe to the podcast to be sure not to miss out on a single episode! I should have taken today off. My productivity is at an all-time low…and I went to bed at halftime. Needless to say, most of our morning revolved around recapping yesterday's Super Bowl. We talked about the National Anthem, Taylor Swift getting booed, the halftime show, the commercials, the game, and some of the prop bets. Also, a cool story about a lifelong Eagles fan who got to see the game in person, and the group of old dudes that have been to every single Super Bowl were back at it this year. In actual news, the President announced that more tariffs are on the way today, allegations of racism in West Allis, the Boy Scouts of America have officially changed their name, and barricades have been placed outside schools in PdC after a verbal threat was made last week. Elsewhere in sports, the Bucks got a win yesterday without Giannis, who is going to be sidelined through the All-Star break. The Badgers won on Saturday, and it looks like Aaron Rodgers' time as a New York Jet is coming to an end. We also talked about this weekend's NASCAR HOF induction, and a kid who should have won a bunch of money during halftime of a recent UMASS game almost got screwed over. 2nd Floor Sarah stopped by to chat with us about her Super Bowl party, and to let us know what's happening in our area this week. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had a couple of idiots who got lost…asked some cops for directions…and got busted for drug possession. Plus, a dude who won a free cruise ended up getting the flu on board the ship & then got a bill for almost $50,000 for his medical treatment while at sea. Also, someone keeps wiping shit all over the walls of a bathroom at a factory, and a guy got an unwanted "happy ending" at a massage parlor. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Milfred and Hands play clips from and analyze Vice President Kamala Harris' speech last week in West Allis. They also assess her chances of winning Wisconsin in November, now that she's the Democrats' presumptive nominee. Harris is a far better campaigner than Joe Biden had been in recent months, bringing some needed energy to the ticket. Yet she faces skepticism from many Midwestern voters.
Today, Rob, Omar and Rodlyn talk through the big news that Vice President Kamala Harris is the new Democratic Party candidate for president, what we're hearing around Madison, and what her West Allis rally felt like compared to Joe Biden's recent visits. Then, we visit Artemis Provisions and Cheese in Mt. Horeb, a business we've been following since it started doing catering and local food delivery during the pandemic. Owners Kingsley and Melissa Gobourne have now opened a retail shop and will soon add a Jamaican American restaurant. Rob talked with them about the origins and dreams for the business.
Wisconsin's Midday News presents a Week in Review (President Biden dropping out of 2024 presidential race, Kamala Harris launching 2024 presidential campaign and holds a rally in West Allis, running hog wild through Milwaukee for Harley Homecoming).
The Republican Party held its nominating convention a week ago in Milwaukee, formally nominating former President Donald Trump as the standard-bearer for the GOP, and also his vice-presidential pick, Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH). Just before the convention kicked off, Trump was the target of an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania. The GOP convention was unique in having the former president there over all days of the event. But since the convention concluded, President Joe Biden has announced that he will not be standing for re-election, and immediately endorsed his vice president, Kamala Harris, to become the Democratic nominee for president. As we are taping this podcast on Wednesday, July 24th, Vice President Kamala Harris looks like the presumptive Democratic nominee, about 4 weeks before the Democratic convention. It has been a head spinning two weeks of politics in the United States and the dynamics and focus of the presidential race has shifted dramatically. To take stock of where the race stands about 100 days out, we have two experts on the presidency. Dr. Meena Bose is the Executive Dean for Public Policy and Public Service Programs at the Peter S. Kalikow School of Government, Public Policy and International Affairs and director of the Peter S. Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency, both at Hofstra University. Dr. Daniel E. Ponder is the L.E. Meador Professor of Political Science and Director of the Meador Center for Politics and Citizenship at Drury University. Meena and Dan are the co-editors OF a new De Gruyter Series in Presidential Politics, Leadership, and Policy Making. The first volume is Evaluating the Obama Presidency: From Transformational Goals to Governing Realities (De Gruyter, 2024) edited by Meena Bose and Paul Fritz. It includes a chapter on presidential leverage and Obama's decision making on Syria by Dan Ponder and Jeff VanDenBerg. Previously, Meena joined the podcast to discuss her book Executive Policymaking: The Role of the OMB in the Presidency (co-authored with Andrew Rudalevige) and Dan also chatted with Lilly about his book Presidential Leverage: Presidents, Approval, and the American State. They are also veterans of Postscript, having come on the show in the past few weeks to discuss the state of the presidential election and consider it in historical and institutional context. We spend this conversation talking about the changing dynamics in the presidential field, and the decisions made by President Biden to step aside. We go over the conventions, discussing the recent Republican convention and what the Democratic convention may be like in a few weeks' time. We talk about issues that may define the race or are defining the race, including the economy, immigration, and reproductive rights. We also, as good political scientists, discuss the prospective options for the vice-presidential selection that Vice President Harris will have to make over the next few weeks. During the podcast, we mentioned: Julia Azari's Substack post at Good Politics/Bad Politics on Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign kickoff event in West Allis, WI on Tuesday, July 23. The Daily's episode focusing on the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania. Susan Liebell's piece in The Medium from April on Vice President Kamala Harris and Reproductive Rights. Bret Stephen's op-ed at the New York Times titled “Democrats Deserved a Contest, Not a Coronation.” Learn more about your ad choices.
