Eric is also passionate about fostering communities and connecting people. He enjoys building community in masterminds and his own monthly dinners.  Outside of a professional context, he is a single father to a sassy teenager and enjoys camping, riding bikes, and exploring the outdoors with his son. Thrive Community MVP, 2019 Thrive Connect Counselor, 2018 BDB Relationship Award, 2018 One great lesson he learned during the time that his business went down was: “You have the option of taking the failures as something as personal and ends up as something that affects you for the rest of your life and subconsciously affects your decision making or take them as a learning lesson and move forward.” For Eric, you can be good about a certain thing that can pay bills, but then there is a certain calling that comes where you realize that you want to do something else.  One of his regrets as a young person was to have fun and own good things, but as he got older he realized that he wanted to do something different and completely out of his comfort zone. Something that he wasn't good at, unlike his first business. Failing many times gave him hope to just keep moving forward.  Growing up, he was afraid of success and failure that was rooted in childhood. But growing up, he learned to work over that fear and continue moving forward. The real question is about how we acknowledge and work on the circumstances.  He believes that to be something great, you have to be around people who act the same and want the same. This will also affect your desire to continue. Investing in yourself helps you to propel yourself to keep moving forward.  During his transitions, he always asked himself, would it hurt if he tried it, and if he failed, what's the worst that can happen? At the end of the day, there are a lot of decisions that need to be made. There are no steps on how to look for the best solution, you just have to trust yourself and believe what you are called for, and work on it. When we align ourselves with our inner self and process things, we begin to be more sensitive with ourselves and have better decisions.   Key Notes:  You are influenced by the people who are constantly around you. Tommy Berretz is an entrepreneur who started his business small, made it to something big, sold it, and moved from halfway across the country with his then-fiance to pursue his personal dream of being a consultant, stand up comedian, and producer. He started his business from his apartment in Houston, Texas in 2005. He was not a college graduate and worked in a pool company and figured that he could work on a business of his own. At first, he had no idea about how to start it since he was not a college graduate. Because of this, he felt extremely inferior against those who had degrees but he made this a motivation to work harder and it was an advantage because he learned things quickly to match with the others. Being a visionary, he thought about having a huge corporation behind his back until he was able to make it happen truthfully little by little and came to fruition. Not the fake it till you make it way but he embodied it till he was able to make it happen. He looks at small businesses in a way that they are way better than large companies. He mentioned that when he started consulting, he realized that owning a small business has an advantage which is dealing directly with the business owner instead of someone else. Starting with a small business that was growing over time by himself, he knew then that he needed to go out of his way and look for people that can help him. He realized that one of his errors was putting a person in a position that had no idea on what needs to be done instead of looking for an expert that can help and work properly for the business. “Give an expert in sales too many hats to wear whether doing too much not only sales, accounting and putting proposals and doing too much, that person becomes mediocre in everything.” He says that to find the right person, he looked for references. Get somebody who is qualified and has the experience and knows what they do. Someone who can give you good advice on how to move forward. You also end up learning something from them. More than making a profit, the company that he had built was in pursuit of the goal to help out children who were in need of food through a non-profit organization. He was inspired by TOM's Shoes and how they have helped out people with their goal of giving a pair of shoes out of a sale that they made. He realized that it was now more than just making a profit, they wanted to change children's lives. Over the course of time, he knew that he needed to do things at the next level not only for himself but for his employees too so they pursue what they want to. He believes that we need to create opportunities for everyone because there is always room for growth. Books: Jack Canfield - https://amzn.to/3ebLwZx Rich Dad Poor Day - https://amzn.to/35OvWiZ Key takeaways: Turn your inferiority into motivation. Starting small is the best way to go big. If you want better service to your clients, think small. Help yourself so you can help others When you're being comfortable with what you have, you start to think less of the goal. He was born the 12th child, and has 44 siblings! He was the first person in his family to attend college (at the University of Utah), and he's since been featured in hundreds of articles, radio, television, and podcast shows—including Entrepreneur Magazine, The Huffington Post, The Dave Ramsey Show, and The Steve Weatherford Show.   Today, Calvin Wayman is the founder of multiple businesses—including a social media agency, a coaching and consulting company, and a solar business. He's the host of the podcast “Curious with Calvin Wayman,” the author of “Fish Out of Water,” and an international TEDx Speaker. His passion is helping others discover that no matter where they started, they truly can design the life they love. - If you would like to request a speaking kit for corporations, conferences, or college events, send a direct message through LinkedIn.
