This podcast episode is a part of the REV x Farmer's Footprint Regenerative Podcast Series! Today in the thirteenth episode of our regenerative podcast series in collaboration with Farmer's Footprint, we are speaking to David Leon, co-founder of Farmer's Footprint and Biome Capital! David shines a light on the side of regenerative agriculture that we often wonder about don't always get a full understanding of – the economics of regeneration. We are so grateful to be able to talk to David and have him help us understand the truth of how climate change and the cost of living crisis are affecting farmers and how, during these desperate and dire financial times, it is possible to take steps towards regeneration. David speaks of fascinating and debatable concepts such as placing monetary value on ecosystems and animal species in order for insurance companies and large corporations to take notice and account for them. As well as not working against but empathising with conventional farmers to turn what we already have into something positive and generative for all. So just a little bit more about the work of Biome Capital and David's role there. Biome invests capital in farmland equity in a model that allows growers to acquire new land or retain both an ownership interest in their land and the ability to manage their operations with relative autonomy. They meet a grower wherever she or he is along the spectrum of transition to regenerative management, and partner in a way that is supportive but not prescriptive. Biome Capital Partners also invests additional capital outside the farm gate to benefit farmer partners (for example, in processing infrastructure or relevant AgTech). They seek to build regional regenerative ecosystems, and part of our investment mandate is to improve the economic and emotional health of their farmer partners and their community. We then journey with Stella back to her beloved South Africa and the majestic white lions, women's healing and empowerment, and permaculture education. Since becoming a teacher, Stella has taught the Process in Australia, the UK, Canada, and the US. This podcast episode is a part of the REV x Farmer's Footprint Regenerative Podcast Series! For the seventh episode in our regenerative podcast series in collaboration with Farmer's Footprint, I got to go to LA and speak to husband and wife duo, Christy and Aras, of Christy Dawn – a regenerative fashion line that is doing more to make their brand sustainable than almost any other line I can think of in the industry. Their commitment to a better planet and human experience is palpable and I can't wait to share this conversation with you all, but first a quick thank you to our sponsors of today's episode. This Podcast episode is brought to you by our friends at EcoCart, Vivobarefoot and Milky Oat! “So to Christy and Aras and the story of Christy Dawn. I was lucky enough to get to do this podcast in person at their beautiful store on Abbot Kinney in LA. Christy and Aras started the Christy Dawn line in order to help women feel beautiful and comfortable in an array of dresses that they began making locally in LA with deadstock fabrics. As the brand evolved however, they knew they could be doing more – they wanted to heal the land more than simply do no harm. This led them to a partnership with Oshadi Collective, an incredible regenerative farm in India that is growing, processing and creating some of the most sustainable fabrics on earth. This is a story of a couple who have put their passion and ideologies into creating something bigger than themselves, and Christy Dawn has gone from regenerating 4 acres to over 80 in the course of just a couple of years with the Farm to Closet collections. My conversation with them is incredibly honest, at some points surprising, and mostly a tale of the power of one couple to make an incredible impact on the fashion industry, but also people and the planet. Which really at the end of the day is the point of this whole series with Farmer's Footprint! – Cora Hilts  Merci To Our Sponsors For This Episode!   EcoCart The average customer lacks access to information that could help them estimate the carbon footprint of the items they purchase, even though 4 out of 5 consumers say climate impact is a factor in who they decide to purchase with. We speak a bit about regenerative agriculture and what insights it might offer with regard to a regenerative health approach. We also chat about the value of kids spending time in nature, the meaning of truth and community, natural as a decentralized health network, the importance of soil health, the flaws of centralized medicine and the opportunities that companies have in the years ahead to be part of the solution, not the problem. We talk about the sad reality that doctors and farmers are struggling within a paradigm dominated by chemicals and the potential that can be unlocked for human healing if we reconnect with the natural world and restore biodiversity in our soil, ecosystems and in our communities. Zach finishes by sharing his definition of health which he was able to condense into 3 powerful words which I really appreciated. In our forth episode of our Regenerative Podcast Series in collaboration with Farmer's Footprint, we speak to founder of Regenerative Travel and owner of Playa Viva, David Leventhal! Reframing luxury in the realm of travel, David opens our eyes to seeing regenerative tourism and hospitality as the ultimate luxury we can experience. Since 2019, Regenerative Travel has been at the forefront of driving the travel industry towards a regenerative future. What began as a mission to connect travelers with environmentally and socially impactful hotels has evolved into a dynamic association and marketplace. Regenerative Travel's overarching goal is to foster collaboration and synergy among all key stakeholders in the travel industry, uniting hotels, travel agents, DMCs, and tour operators under a unified vision. Playa Viva was the vision of Sandra Kahn as executed by David Leventhal. Both have a background in social and environmental impact. Sandra and David were founders of Rainforest2Reef a non-profit which supported the creation of corridors for species protection in the Yucatan Peninsula and Calakmul area. R2R created one of the largest and most successful private reserves between local Ejido farmers who joined a conservation easement supported by global conservation NGOs. Regeneration principles have guided much of their work including the founding of Regenerative Travel and Regenerative Resorts to support similar independent hotel owners around the world doing great work in their local ecosystems promoting travel “Where Your Vacation Meets Your Values.” David shares what it's like to be on the ever-evolving journey of building a regenerative hotel and the importance of honouring the land you're building on. Most importantly David speaks of the impact of community, and how once we all start making sustainable choices, it creates a ripple effect spanning further than you can imagine. Sustainability Now - exploring technologies and paradigms to shape a world that works

While researching the rapid shift in cancer incidents from northern states to the Mississippi Delta, triple board-certified physician, Dr. Zach Bush connected the widespread use of Glyphosate (trade name: Round-up) in America's farmlands with soil and human health everywhere from the farms to the Gulf of Mexico. This chemical destroys the microbiome in the soil as well as our digestive systems. Dr. Zach realized that it is necessary to restore soil health to allow our farmlands to produce nutrient-dense foods that will then restore human health.   David explains how Farmer's Footprint was born out of an effort to educate farmers about regenerative agriculture practices through the story of how the Breitkreutz family is transitioning their Minnesota farm from from conventional farming to regenerative agriculture. Storytelling became the root of making connections and helping farmers start making steps toward regenerative farming.   Their ethos is one of progress over perfection. They seek to meet farmers where they are, never allowing divergence in dogma to devalue the food producer's profound contribution to society. They are engineering the tools, business models, policies, and incentives to scale regenerative practices globally.

This is the first podcast episode of the 2023 year of connection. How can we employ connection to advance the functional and lifestyle medicine movement? One answer is that we must continue to leverage group care and community networks to support reconnection in the post-COVID era, improve patient outcomes and increase the awareness and accessibility of our movement. Our guest on this episode is an innovator and thought leader on health creation and chronic disease reversal. Zach Bush, MD teaches about the intersections between the environment and the individual by identifying the themes that connect diverse systems, such as microbiologic processes and macroeconomics. To him, the original human wound is a false belief that we are not all connected—to ourselves, nature and everyone around us. To be healthy—physically and mentally—is to be connected. In this episode, Dr. Bush and James explore the many repercussions of disconnection, from autoimmune disease to war, while also covering how connection can transform and heal. The full episode will bring you more insights about: The negative effects of cellular disconnection, and what environmental or lifestyle factors trigger that dysfunction How a scarcity mentality leads to fear, guilt, shame and economic disparity Empowering perspectives that help people heal Flaws in peer-reviewed, evidence-based medicine Quorum sensing and Dr. Bush's new organization, The Institute for Natural Law and Governance    The Journey of Intrinsic Health:  https://journeyofintrinsichealth.com/    Institute of Natural Law and Governance: https://www.naturallawandgov.org/   FARMER'S FOOTPRINT:    http://www.farmersfootprint.us/     https://www.facebook.com/farmersfootprint    https://www.instagram.com/farmersfootprint/

Why were Zach's patients getting sicker and more inflamed even when eating kale and brussel sprouts and other foods he knew should be loaded with medicinal compounds? This question would lead him to realize that we have created a food system, a medical system, and a culture that is fundamentally divorced from nature — and particularly, from healthy, fertile soil. Igor Pershin had a near-death experience which made him take stock of his priorities and decide to give back in some way. This wake-up call sent him back to university to pursue postgraduate studies in the environment at Melbourne University, an addition to his Marketing degree, which acted as a springboard for his climate change activism career, spanning Beyond Zero Emissions, 350.org and ultimately founding his own non-profit, Less Meat Less Heat. Igor's focus was carbon-conscious eating, which opened up opportunities for him to present at UN climate conferences in Paris and Bonn, speak on the TEDx stage, and even develop an app. Interestingly, burnout forced Igor to take stock of his own health and understand the deeper systemic origins of environmental and human-health imbalances, where formal studies into nutrition and functional medicine led to his understanding that human health is directly linked to the health of our soils. He admittedly states that he was wrong about his non-profit and that, as Bob Gill says, “it's not the cow, it's how”, and discusses how his experience led him on a path away from the climate 'fight' and toward seeking solutions, finding permaculture and regenerative agriculture which integrates animals as vital roles in the building of soil health. Following Sadhguru along the Cauvery Calling trip across India to activate farmers and their communities to shift towards regenerative agriculture principles, he further deepened his passion in this space, which ultimately led him to seek out Zach Bush and Farmer's Footprint. Igor is currently the operations manager of Farmer's Footprint Australia and runs Natural Filters, sustainable bamboo charcoal water filters for the home, as well as a digital marketing consultancy specialising in solar energy. I believe that conversation matters; that long form nuanced conversation is what we need now more than ever, to make the world a better place. And for me, part of that means exposing ourselves to new ideas, new concepts and new ways of thinking that we may previously have not been exposed to. This week's guest on my Feel Better Live More Podcast is someone who fits that bill perfectly.Dr Zach Bush is a medical doctor and founder of the non-profit Farmer's Footprint, created to find root cause solutions for human and ecological health. His passion for education reaches across many disciplines, including genomics, the immune system, and gut brain health.Zach spent many years as a conventional doctor, specialising in internal medicine, endocrinology and hospice care. Disillusioned with the state of Western medicine, he began taking an integrative approach, studying the body's microbiomes in relation to health, disease and food systems. Today though, Zach describes his life and work as ‘dedicated to the health of humanity and the planet we call home'.In this conversation, Zach makes the case for a revolution in how we understand ourselves, our fellow humans, our healthcare and farming systems – and how we save the world. This episode is a rollercoaster ride through biology, physics, philosophy, economics and environmentalism – all sprinkled with a good dose of inspiration.Zach and I share the view that healthcare needs radical change. It can no longer be about doctors telling patients what's wrong and prescribing drugs and treatments that don't look at the whole person. We discuss how traits of ego, individualism and competition aren't really human at all. And Zach explains how the realisation that all living beings are energetically connected and interdependent is the key to transformation – we cannot thrive as one species if we wipe out others. We also talk about saving our soil and our food systems through regenerative agriculture, and encouraging individuals, farmers and big industry to work together to save the internal and external ecosystems that none of us could live without.Yes, these are big topics. But ultimately, Zach's message is one of hope. He's not afraid to put forward big solutions, and they're all made up of steps each one of us can start taking from today. This is a really special conversation. It's honest, evocative and at times, provocative. I hope you enjoy listening.Support the podcast and enjoy Ad-Free episodes. Try FREE for 7 days on Apple Podcasts https://apple.co/feelbetterlivemore. We spoke about Magic Realism and why it might be one of the best ways to understand what life is and how reality works. We spoke about the power of language to create reality and how the English language might have limits in portraying and creating a reality that goes beyond its physical realm. The medical paradigm of our time must stop fearing death and must stop fearing pain. Our individual and collective wounds are the paths to understand the spiritual disconnect that is engulfing us in a vortex of dysfunctional energy, at the organ and planetary levels. Going back to the future might mean that we let go of the need to heal things and manifest a higher state of being. Glyphosate is a popular pesticide that has a big downside—it's destroying our health. It damages our good gut bacteria and may lead to leaky gut. Glyphosate also depletes glutathione, our master antioxidant and a cornerstone of our biology, and it dramatically impacts our sulfur, methylation, and detoxification pathways that have many essential roles for our health. And not only is glyphosate harming human health and the health of our future generations, it's also destroying our ecosystems. In today's episode, I talk with Dr. Stephanie Seneff, Ken Cook, and Dr. Zach Bush about why it's important to be aware of the effects of glyphosate and make choices that reduce our exposure as much as possible.Stephanie Seneff is a Senior Research Scientist at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This episode is brought to you by Athletic Greens, Cozy Earth, and Eight Sleep. We need to stop believing that doing the right thing is expensive or will cut into your profits. Doing the right thing on a global scale will always make you more wealthy. I think that's true in any part of your life and I'd say relationship is the one area that we make the most mistakes in because we don't value relationships for what they're really capable of doing. We have very surfacy relationships and we're not trained into sacred, holy relationship at any level - friendship, marriage - we take these very surfacy versions of them. So, when we start to think about sacred commerce, I think it's time for us to maybe put in the words, 'sacred value,' again. Let's put sacred value back into everything. - Zach Bush MD Are You Stressed Out Lately? Check-in with yourself; what do you think is possible for your mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, and financial wellness? When you think about these possibilities do you feel tension and contraction within your body? Or do you feel excitement, peace, and expansion? ION* | Intelligence of Nature Click here to order ION* today At ION*, we are all about connection: cell to cell, person to planet. And while our mission is evergreen, our pursuit to reawaken connection is ever evolving. The ION* path was first laid in 2012 when an obscure soil science article showed Dr. Zach Bush, Founder and CEO, a family of carbon molecules capable of partnering with the human body. Already primed with a passion for finding root-cause solutions to human health problems, Dr. Zach and team set off to better define how we support the microbiome - our foundation of wellness. The answer didn't lie in the probiotics industry, but through our bodies' innate drive to heal and thrive. The domino effect of good health, they found, was a function of supporting, not supplementing. The Truth Will Set You Free Honoring Our Ancestors: Solocast | Vision Quest Part 1 Touching Death: Solocast | Vision Quest Part 2 How Josh applied Zach's teachings about sacred commerce to his Vision Quest experience this year. 323 Charles Eisenstein How we can reintegrate back into natural systems and why this is so important for our economy. The difference between native tribe cultures and our western one when it comes to food supply and storage. How Hawaii has changed so much from relying on nature for food to now importing 95% of it in large cargo ships. The devolution of our food system and how we rely so much on plastic, processed foods, and essentially a system of modern slavery for farmers. What conscious capitalism is and how it helps our economy. Where we went wrong with capitalism and why it had a lot to do with seeing technology as the solution. Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand   [17:30] Natural Law & Coming to Terms with Our Values Why our founding documents including the Declaration of Independence were very colonist and separated God from nature yet we haven't done anything to update them to modern times to put nature first. Why the results we see in the collapse of consumerism, capitalism corruption, and abuses of different cultures can be traced back to colonial times. Unpacking what Natural Law is and how it can be applied to our modern society. Why it was the Iroquis who really helped write the salient points of the Declaration of Independence. The bizarre reality that the money that moves in and out of our country is blood money. 405 Tim Corcoran How we can manage the dichotomy between people that are suffering financially but need help with their health vs how we can make a profit as a health company or organization and actually serve more people. Zach's various companies and how they are organized to create profit and pump it back down to finding and healing the root cause of various issues like with Farmer's Footprint. Farmer's Footprint M*Clinic The Journey of Intrinsic Health Project Biome Bio Capital Partners The immense amount of waste that our economy is creating (especially sugar cane) and how Zach's companies are working to offset that and make conscious change happen. Why doing the right thing for the world is not expensive or will cut into your company's profits; doing the right thing on a global scale will always make you more wealthy.   [33:00] Making Commerce Sacred Again What it looks like and feels like to be part of sacred commerce. Why it's important not to have "ownership" over anything but have your hands wide open and all the Universe to play through us with sacred commerce. How the Universe heard and helped Zach during a difficult time has he transitioned out of academia to a higher calling with his life. The intense environment Zach worked in academics researching cancer as his small office was surrounded by refrigerators holding tumor specimens and essentially death. Why spiritual enlightenment doesn't take a process, it takes a heart, surrendering, and being open to what the Universe can give you. Zach's take on consciousness and why there's no thing as rising human consciousness because consciousness is an access point to all knowledge in the universe.   [39:30] Surrendering and Answering the Universe's Call 429 Danielle LaPorte Why hope, joy and real love are often misportrayed as a feeling but it's really a state of being. The fact that the feeling of love only lasts about 7 seconds before it fizzles out and then we have to rekindle that feeling because it takes up so much neurological effort to create it. How we can step away from our emotional brain and step into a state of existence to access vibrational states of hope, joy, and love. The power of silence, micro naps, and sanskrit soundtracks to help Zach access the vibration of stillness and open his heart to be willing to answer the Universe's call. Zach's various life transitions in the last 10 years and how he's had to let go of a lot of things to help him grow. The minimalistic life Zach now leads living in a log cabin that he built with his son and why it's more than enough for him. What Zach had to give up during CV19 over the last year to stay true to himself and stop judging himself. Why the fabric of everything is not love, the fabric of everything is beauty and when you see beauty you will experience love. The beauty and love that is within all of us and why fear and death feel ludicrous when you tap into both. 196 Aubrey Marcus How we heal when we recognize the beauty within each other. A powerful exercise you can do right here with Zach and Josh to connect with the beauty within you and others.   [1:07:30] What Happens When We Isolate, "Cancel," and Stop Hearing Each Other How we can work with and transcend from censorship and "you're wrong, I'm right." Remember that if someone is attacking you, then those who are doing the attacking are projecting the hate or lack of love they have for themselves onto you. Zach's reminisce of the night he got the scar on his right cheekbone and why he feels great compassion for the person responsible for it. The tingle Zach feels in his right cheekbone still today whenever he starts to feel sorry for himself or abused by the system to remind him there is no victimhood here, it's humanity struggling to align with a nature that loves it. What happens between us when we simply decide to "cancel" someone and stop communicating with them - it's cancer of society. Why the antidote for every emotional injury lies within the wound yet we keep running away from the wounds we need to heal individually and globally.   [1:22:00] The Extradorinay Journey of Human History & Our Enlightenment Exploring the concept of time and dimensions plus why we've already won at the end of time as we continue to experience human enlightenment shifts like we are now. Why Zach believes we are currently in the biggest human evolutionary shift we've ever experienced right now. Carl Sagan's Pale Blue Dot The questions we've asked and how we've grown with our questions since we realized that there is so much out there in the universe than just our planet. Exploring how incredible the human body is and the fact that we are basically walking ecosystems of intelligence and sensory processing systems for all life on the planet. How we can let go of shame around feeling "I am not good enough," "I am not doing enough." Zach's deep US history roots going all the way back to Daniel Boone, his distant relations with the Bush politicians, and connections to other politicians such as Franklin D. Roosevelt and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Why it hurt the US when our Founding Fathers left the Founding Mothers' voices out of the Declaration of Independence.   [1:33:30] Building Community on a Grander Scale How we can stop getting in constant work loops and bring community back into our lives. Why Zach constantly seeks out community every single day. How conversation helps Zach let go of stress of the day and open his heart. Zach's own financial difficulties trying to run a clinic in rural Virginia and how it took a toll on both him and his family. The moment Zach surrendered this mission with the clinic and why it was a necessity for him. 364 Alison Armstrong How community can help you step up to your highest potential. Why your vision, dreams, and goals cannot work unless you have a community behind you. What wellness means to him now, 1 year after his last interview on Wellness Force. Eckhart Tolle   Power Quotes From The Show The Devolution of Our Food System "When we start to think about value systems, we need to ask ourselves: Are we in a state of scarcity or abundance? What do we really value? Are we valuing life behind something that we're consuming? Is that the food we're eating? Are we going to start to eat more conscientiously? Or are we going to keep eating things that are wrapped in layers of cellophane, plastic, and metal or are we going to start to have reverence for fruits, vegetables, and the animals that we kill? Are we going to start to have reverence again for the humans that work in our food system?" - Zach Bush MD   Spiritual Awakening Takes a Willing Heart "A spiritual awakening doesn't take a process, it takes a willing heart. If you just become willing for a second, the universe will show up for you so quickly, you won't be able to believe it. It doesn't take effort; it takes surrender. It's the opposite of effort - just let go of all of your beliefs of what it's going to take to become conscious. We are players in this beautiful, symphonic dance of life in the universe and humanity has this opportunity to surrender into that right now."  - Zach Bush MD   Where Does Hope Come From? "When we step away from the amygdala and from the emotional brain to start stepping into a state of existence, that's where we can find the vibrational states of joy, peace, and hope. They're not something that needs to be manufactured or conjured up - you're simply tuning into a frequency and it happens to be hope." - Zach Bush MD   Links From Today's Show  Wellness Force Programs Zach Bush MD ION* Intelligence of Nature 345 Zach Bush MD: Humanity, Consciousness & CV19> 362 Zach Bush MD: Saving The Soil, Saving Humanity What Is Wellness? After a health scare, Ryan Bartlett set out on a mission to naturally restore his health. On his quest for a method, he traced the cause of his problems and many problems in the world to food, and the medium in which most of our food is grown - soil. Because of modern farming practices, our soil is dying, and Ryan believes that in order to save the world we must restore our soil to a richer state. He believes the way to do this is through "regenerative farming," or "regenerative agriculture" “Regenerative Agriculture” describes farming and grazing practices that, among other benefits, reverse climate change by rebuilding soil organic matter and restoring degraded soil biodiversity – resulting in both carbon drawdown and improving the water cycle. The loss of the world's fertile soil and biodiversity, along with the loss of indigenous seeds and knowledge, pose a mortal threat to our future survival. According to soil scientists, at current rates of soil destruction (i.e. decarbonization, erosion, desertification, chemical pollution), within 50 years we will not only suffer serious damage to public health due to a qualitatively degraded food supply characterized by diminished nutrition and loss of important trace minerals, but we will literally no longer have enough arable topsoil to feed ourselves. The key to regenerative agriculture is that it not only “does no harm” to the land but actually improves it, using technologies that regenerate and revitalize the soil and the environment. Regenerative agriculture leads to healthy soil, capable of producing high quality, nutrient dense food while simultaneously improving, rather than degrading land, and ultimately leading to productive farms and healthy communities and economies. It is a dynamic and holistic, incorporating permaculture and organic farming practices, including conservation tillage, cover crops, crop rotation, composting, mobile animal shelters and pasture cropping, to increase food production, farmers' income and especially, topsoil. 16 days of Conscious Love guided meditation course https://www.facebook.com/groups/540124147161119/ Plant-based Fake Meats vs. Grass-fed Meats By Stephan van Vliet at Duke University: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-021-93100-3 Bionutreint food association for the data on nutrition variances in veggies: https://bionutrient.org/site/ Kiss the Ground documentary on Netflix: https://kissthegroundmovie.com/ Farmer's Footprint - https://farmersfootprint.us/

In this week's episode, Amrit interviews Dr. Zach Bush, a triple board-certified physician in internal medicine, endocrinology and metabolism, and hospice care. Dr. Bush is an internationally recognized educator and thought leader on the microbiome as it relates to health, disease, and food systems and is the founder and director of The M Clinic, an integrative health center in Virginia, and founder Seraphic Group and the non-profit Farmer's Footprint, both created to develop root-cause solutions for human and ecological health.Amrit and Dr. Zach dive deep into the human experience of life and death, three births and the importance of aligning with nature at all levels. They have a mind-blowing conversation about radical acceptance that will take you all the way to feeling completely and utterly accepted!Dr. Zach believes there are three births. Life is an incessant course of transitions. You are born, then turn into an adolescent and finally into an adult. Each transformation provides all the physical, mental, and emotional growth you need to survive. Death is just one of the transition points. It is the movement between this existence and the next.He is fascinated about nature and how it works. He goes way back to the origin of our own pure self; the first conception and the womb as a protected place where the embryo, with it's own energetic centre of consciousness, can grow sheltered from the mother's immune system, the world, and the traumas that humanity has gone through in its history. As soon as the child goes through the vaginal canal, the second conception and seeding takes place. The child inherits the entire microbiome of the mother. Microbiome is this vast ecosystem that is very much the soil that will nurture that life into existence. It is the foundation of human life, consciousness and health. The third birth is death. He talks about death in the most uplifting and beautiful way ever imagined. Death is not the end, and he learned this through his own experience way back in the ICU. In fact, this is when Dr. Zach decided to focus on nature and palliative care. He used to try to take control over life so death would not happen through technology and medicine. But, when he took the patients off life support mechanisms and let the family be with them and realized the most amazing exchanges of human intelligence and human consciousness would occur; he decided his medical approach had to change. We have become so separated from nature, that we see death as the end. But if you recognize it as a part of nature, it becomes a transition period between one form of existence and another. “Once we come to view all of life as a transition and understand we are here on Earth to transform, we can better appreciate the spiritual journey encompassing the natural processes of living and dying”Dr. Zach shares a sad, yet beautiful and uplifting story so you can expand your thoughts about death and radical acceptance. This is a story that happened back in the ICU. Zach brought two patients back from death. These patients didn't know each other, came from different backgrounds and had a different temper. One of them was fun and had lots of people come to visit him when he was hospitalized, the other was bitter and had just one person visit him the whole time he was in hospital. Yet both of them experienced the same feeling of absolute acceptance after death and neither of them wanted to be brought back. After death, the social guy who had always been accepted, felt even more acceptance, and the bitter guy said it was the first time he had ever been accepted. Death is a transformation moment and an extension that goes beyond the limits of the body we carry. The moment we step out of this shell, we discover the universe. A Universe that embraces and completely accepts us by who we are. He states every soul on this planet is enough at every single point of their existence. “We should surrender what we think we know if we are going to realize our full potential before we die. We need to wake up. It could get really good around here”Furthermore they talk about the comfort in convenience of technology, the importance of farming as a collective, and his regenerative agricultural practices as a solution to the human and environmental impacts of chemicals. We have created and are in control of huge chemical farms which destroy soil, water systems, oceans, human and animal health, and everything on this planet. Zach believes we can transform this planet into a regenerative ecosystem as long as we work all together with mother nature. By doing this, he states farmers and consumers will witness richer soil and water, and an overflow of health. Dr. Zach Bush is on a mission. He wants to bring regenerative health to every living being. Industrial farming, chemical pesticides, the pharmaceutical industry and even errant Western medical practices have a tremendous impact on both human and planetary health. We, as consumers, are the solution. We all can do our own little bit. This episode ends with the most touching and moving conversation. Zach shares the time he connected with an Australian aboriginal; a conversation you need to listen to, it goes beyond these written words. Do you eat food? Do you care where your food comes from, how it was grown, and who grows it? If the answer is YES, then this is the episode for you, because today's episode was recorded during the National Sustainable Living Festival's ‘Great Local Lunch', where I had the absolute pleasure to join a bunch of legends who are re-inventing and re-imagining what our food system could & should look like. This was SUCH an interesting cast of characters, who are all at THE pointy end of regenerative farming, wild foods, and our future food systems. We recorded these chats whilst Costa was hosting a live production set in the background… so there is some background noise, but it all just adds to the vibe and the feeling from the day. In this episode you will hear from: Maree Lowes & Charlie Arnott – Co-hosts of new impact production 'Eat Dirt', which starts with the premise that we have only 60 years of topsoil remaining, and aims to use storytelling to connect people to their food Peter Hardwick - Wild food researcher and forager who has spent a career learning the wild origins of our foods. Peter speaks to how we limit ourselves from the enormity of edible plants out there that we don't regard as standard due to our societal norms; plants that grow without fertiliser, without irrigation, and are resistant to pests and diseases Blair Beattie - Co-owner of Harvest restaurant and currently working with to bring Farmer's Footprint to Australia. Blair is working to connect people to our food system in meaningful ways. He's also always good for an expletive-filled rant. Joel Orchard – A first-generation small-scale farmer and Co-founder and Chair of Young Farmers Connect, and someone who is really building this community of people re-connecting to food production and choosing to be custodians of our food system. Jacob Birch – an Aboriginal man and researcher at Southern Cross University exploring the nutrient profile of native grains, who explains the cultural and ethical challenges of commercialising these ingredients. Jacob highlights to importance of having native people involved in the growing and selling of our native ingredients, lest we extract and commoditise these ingredients at the detriment to their traditional custodians Venetia Scott – a new farmer working in the space of agroecology, and someone who re-structured her entire life from working in law and doing what society told her she should do to shedding her suburban life and working with the land. Venetia shares beautifully her story from turning her back on a secure income, turning to a different story, and reconnecting to Nature. This episode really has everything… life changes, indigenous perspectives, wild ideas…. Blair swears, I inhale one of Joel's dried crickets, there's a bunch of stuff going on in the background, and I really hope it gives you multiple perspectives from some incredible change-makers in our food system. So please enjoy these conversations from guests at the NSLF's Great Local Lunch :)

Nicol Ragland is an award-winning film maker and photographer from the US. I first came across Nicol when she directed the spectacular short film, Farmer's Footprint, featuring Dr Zach Bush and a group of regenerative farmers including Gabe Brown. It echoed so many of the stories you hear on this podcast, and elsewhere, of both the litany of issues in the wake of ‘big agriculture' and its related systems, and the often-surprising pace of recovery among those communities able to step out from under that boot heel. Nicol might be thought of as part of a growing movement of solutions journalism or regenerative media. But she still thinks too few producers understand the influence of propaganda and well financed algorithms. And what we can do about it. Nicol was born and raised in Oklahoma and Colorado, but couldn't wait to get out of there. After eighteen years in Los Angeles, though, she recently circled back to her “red dirt roots”. She wrote a blog about why, talking of the power of reconnection with country, health and communities. And she lamented that so much of our deepening political divides are between rural and urban folk, concluding with the question: “What if it's not about solving but about maintaining a connection?” This conversation was recorded on the morning of 16 March 2021 (Australian time). Zach Bush MD is a renowned, triple board certified physician, and internationally recognized educator on the microbiome, as it relates to human health, soil health, food systems, and a regenerative future. Dr Zach became highly decorated in the medical field, with multiple awards. Then a growing set of insights built towards a moment of transformation. His touchstone insight was that we don't need to solve each of the many increasingly prevalent diseases – we need to regenerate the source of our health and vitality. This led to ground breaking research on how our microbiome (a community of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and viruses) works - or more to the point, how communication happens between the microbiome and our human cells. Zach has said the microbiome is more responsible for our health than our genes, and is actually the great coordinating force of biology on earth. And that we're destroying it, with our dominant agricultural and medical systems. At a time of pandemic, this is all the more valuable insight, and Zach outlines at length his perspective and findings related to COVID-19. You'll find most of this in a special extra to this episode. Zach's work charts the intimate, absolute connection between humans and humous – the earth and its soil. The soil and our gut are sisters, you could say, and carbon is our best mate. And while we flirt with superbugs and the ‘end of antibiotics', we are courting what may even be greater disaster with the chemical glyphosate. Glyphosate's touted strength of being water soluble appears to be proving the undoing of no less than the integrity of our physiological being – implicated in our epidemics of cancer, auto-immune issues and neurological conditions. In response to all this, Zach has also been startled by our regenerative capacity and what he calls the intelligence of nature, since embarking on a film project called Farmer's Footprint. This has become a global phenomenon, prompting the creation of a broader project called Project Biome. This is due to launch in a couple of months. Its mission? No less than the universal adoption of regenerative agricultural, medical and related systems around the world. To talk about all this, Zach was kind enough to join me online from his home in Hawai'i.
