What if '3:10 to Yuma' was recast in 1976?Ever wondered how the dusty trails and lawless landscapes of a Western classic like "3:10 to Yuma" would fare against the disco-drenched backdrop of 1976? Saddle up with Cory, Nick, and Aly as they reimagine this modernized western in an era of auteurs and gritty, harsh truths. We're deep-diving into a decade of film that was ripe for a different kind of outlaw—an examination of the Western genre through the lens of a transformative year in cinema. From the cultural shockwaves of "All the President's Men" to the underdog story that punched its way to our hearts in "Rocky," we draw parallels, conjure up hypotheticals, and highlight the performances that defined 1976. Our journey through the tumbleweeds isn't just about casting cowboys and gun-slinging galas; it's a salute to the icons of an era and the stories they told. So grab your Stetson and join us for a ride through the old West, reimagined through the gritty prism of the '70s—it's an episode that promises no ghostbusting, but plenty of spurs and speculation.(00:01:00)Intro(00:02:34) About the Movie(00:07:00)Useless Critic Stats(00:20:41)1976 Box Office(00:23:22)Oscars(00:24:16)Other Notable Films(00:30:12)Rules(00:33:18)30 Seconds or Less CastingMAIN CAST:(00:40:09) Alice Evans (00:45:09) Butterfield (00:54:02) Charlie Prince (01:03:38) William Evans (01:13:35) Dan Evans (01:25:06) Ben Wade (01:37:06)Final CastThanks for listening; If you feel like supporting us, this is where you do that!BuyMeACoffee Check out or other content/socials here. The term spiritual translates the Greek adjective πνευματικός pneumatikos, which is applied to Christians in a few New Testament passages (1 Cor 2:15, 3:1; 14:37; Gal 6:1). The Christian who is called spiritual (1 Cor 2:15) is contrasted with the natural man (ψυχικός psuchikos), who is unsaved, having no spiritual life (1 Pet 1:3, 23), and is “devoid of the Spirit” (Jude 1:19). Furthermore, the spiritual Christian is contrasted with immature believers who are called “infants in Christ” (1 Cor 3:1), regularly governed by their sin natures, called “fleshly” (1 Cor 3:3a) and who live “like unbelievers” (1 Cor 3:3b CSB). Spiritual Christians are mature in their knowledge of God's Word (1 Cor 2:6; 14:20; Heb 5:12-14), and regularly manifest the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22-23). According to Charles Ryrie, “In 1 Corinthians 2:15 we have the nearest thing to a definition of spirituality, and that is actually only a description. If the spiritual believer judges or examines or discerns all things, yet himself is not understood by others, then spirituality means a mature, yet maturing, relationship to God.”[1] And William Evans states: "The biblical concept of a spiritual Christian is one who is governed by the Holy Spirit rather than by his lower nature. “He that is spiritual” is contrasted with “the natural man,” that is, the soulish or unregenerate individual (1 Cor 2:14-16). The spiritual person is also set over against the carnal or fleshly believer who is still a babe in Christ (1 Cor 3:1-4). Christians are exhorted to grow by feeding on the Word (1 Pet 2:2). The Holy Spirit teaches them by means of the Scriptures (John 16:13). They are led by the Spirit (Rom 8:14); walk in the Spirit (Gal 5:16); bear spiritual fruit (Gal 5:22-23); are strengthened by the Spirit (Eph 3:16); and are filled with the Spirit (Eph 5:18)."[2] Assuming new life and an advance to spiritual maturity, the Christian will not attain sinless perfection in this life. According to Charles Swindoll “Christians will not attain perfect Christlike maturity in this earthly life. Yet they can grow enough through sanctification to become characterized as ‘spiritual' or ‘mature in Christ.' The apostle Paul denied that he was perfect, but he was certainly mature and was aggressively pursuing further growth in Christ (Phil 3:12–14).”[3] Spirituality is the life the Christian enjoys when properly living in dependence upon the Holy Spirit and walking according to Scripture. This advance assumes one has believed in Christ as Savior and has spiritual life (John 3:16; 6:28-29; 20:31; Acts 4:12; Rom 5:6-10; Eph 2:8-9; Tit 3:5; 1 Pet 1:3, 23). Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Only Christ's atoning work on the cross is sufficient to satisfy God's righteous demands toward our sin (1 John 2:2). No works are necessary for us to be saved. We need only Christ. When the Philippian Jailer asked the apostle Paul, “What must I do to be saved?” (Acts 16:30). Paul replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31). Believing in Christ means we trust Him to do for us that which we cannot do for ourselves; to save us. It means we trust solely in Him and nothing more. Though good works should follow our salvation, they are never the condition of it. Once we are born again, God desires that we advance to spiritual maturity, which glorifies Him and blesses us and others. The information taught in this lesson applies only to the Christian, for “The unbeliever does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him. And he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1 Cor 2:14 NET; cf. John 8:43-44). The advance to spiritual maturity is a process that takes time as Christians learn and live God's Word on a regular basis. There is always opposition, for we live in a fallen world and are confronted with many obstacles and distractions that seek to push or pull us away from God. Though constant distractions are all around us, we move forward by “destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ” (2 Cor 10:5). Bringing our thoughts into captivity means focusing our minds on God and His Word (Isa 26:3; Prov 3:5-6; 2 Cor 10:5; Col 3:1-2), and not allowing our thoughts to be bogged down and trapped with the cares of this world (Matt 6:25-34). Last week, "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," the second film in the franchise, was released to positive reviews. The first Black Panther broke records at the box office in 2018, and the sequel has been highly anticipated, especially after the passing of actor Chadwick Boseman, who played T'Challa, in 2020. William Evans and Omar Holmon, co-founders of the website Black Nerd Problems, are with us to give their thoughts on the new movie.
Gloria Dawn Evans was born in Port Melbourne on 26 February, 1929. Her father was William Evans, a ventriloquist, magician and paper-tearer known as Billy Andross, and her mother was Zilla Weatherly, a contortionist and singer who toured for many years with her sisters Zaida and Queenie. Gloria made her stage debut with them when she was only 14 days old. Three years later she was singing and dancing, billed as 'Baby Dawn'. In 1939 she toured with other talented youngsters in the Tivoli Gang. In 1941, when she was 12, her mother launched her at the Tivoli as an adult soubrette. She appeared there with George Wallace, Jim Gerald, Queenie Paul and Roy Rene ('Mo'), though she had a golden rule: 'I never work blue or nude.' In 1946 Dawn appeared in revue for Harry Wren at the Cremorne in Brisbane. The following year she married a juggler, Frank Cleary, and together they toured with Sorlie's tent show in pantomime and revue. In 1949 Dawn made her musical comedy debut in Little Nellie Kelly and Sunny for Will Mahoney at the Cremorne. In 1952 she had the title role in the starry production of Cinderella at the Melbourne Tivoli. Tommy Trinder, who played Buttons, was impressed: 'She was a great artist. Had she gone to England or America she would have been a world star.' In 1959 Garnet H. Carroll gave Gloria Dawn the coveted Carol Burnett role in his production of the musical Once Upon a Mattress at the Princess in Melbourne. In 1961-2 she toured for J.C. Williamson's in the comedy The Amorous Prawn and as the ebullient Rose in the Australian musical The Sentimental Bloke. From 1965 until 1967 Gloria Dawn featured in a string of sparkling Phillip Theatre revues for William Orr: A Cup of Tea, a Bex and a Good Lie Down, Hail, Gloria Fitzpatrick (a 'revuesical' designed to showcase her versatility), There Will be an Interval of 15 Minutes and But I Wouldn't Want to Live There. Following this, she played the title role in Annie Get Your Gun, first, in 1967, 'in the round' in a large tent at Warringah Mall on Sydney's North Shore, and, a couple of years later, at David H. McIlwraith's resplendent Lido Theatre Restaurant in Russell Street, Melbourne. In 1972 Dawn and comedian Johnny Lockwood conducted workshops in vaudeville tradition for the cast of the Old Tote's How Could You Believe Me When I Said I'd be Your Valet When You Know I've Been a Liar All My Life?, and John Bell's free-wheeling interpretation of Goldoni's A Servant of Two Masters. It was Dawn's great friend, playwright Peter Kenna, who persuaded her to take the greatest gamble of her life. At the Community Theatre in Sydney in 1972 she played her first major dramatic role, Oola Maguire, in a revival of The Slaughter of St Teresa's Day, which Kenna had written expressly for her. Her remarkable performance won her the Sydney Critics' Circle Best Actress Award. This triumph led to three more challenges the following year: she was Anna Fierling in Brecht's Mother Courage and Her Children for the Melbourne Theatre Company, Aggie in Kenna's A Hard God for Nimrod in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra, and Mrs Peachum in The Threepenny Opera for the Old Tote at the Sydney Opera House Drama Theatre. A Hard God was televised by the ABC in 1974. At Her Majesty's Theatre, Melbourne, in 1972 she delivered a powerhouse performance as Mama Rose in Gypsy. It was Dawn's greatest success; tragically, it was to be her last as she became gravely ill. Toni Lamond was called in to substitute when required. Lamond took over for the Adelaide run, but Dawn was well enough to appear on the opening night in Sydney. Lamond remembered: 'Gloria was extraordinary that Saturday night. She reached down to her very depths and gave all she had. By the following Thursday, she was faltering. On the Friday...

Tragedy has an odd way of breeding conspiracy. This occurs because the tragic elements of our lives set our imaginations aflame. You hear people say all the time that there must be a reason for things occurring and, often, this is true. However, people tend to romanticize the tragic a bit too much. While life is precious and it is certainly important, life's importance does not outweigh the importance of the truth because the entire basis of existence itself is, in fact, truth. So it is up to us to remain objective during desperate times. It is up to us to control our sometimes rabid and hallucinatory emotional states. I mean no disrespect to those who are victims of tragedy; I have endured my fair share indeed and so mocking such people would be nothing more than self-hatred. I am not attacking anyone. I am trying to instill within a sense of urgency about separating mythos from reality. We must always do this, no matter how much pain we suffer. We cannot be like people on social media, who theorize about non-existent race wars. One of the things I saw a lot of people online saying after the tragedy in Wisconsin is that Darrell Brooks, a lifetime criminal who appears to be severely mentally disturbed, committed his despicable act in order to incite a race war on white people. This argument, that all black people are seeking the violent overthrow of white American hegemony, appears constantly in the history of American tragedy. When Noah Green, who was studying to be a member of the far right Nation of Islam, murdered officer William Evans, online “experts” were quick to point the finger a Black Lives Matter, a leftist organization that argues for progressive policies. The rationalization for this is usually an obscure television interview where a member of Black Lives Matter refuses to condemn the Nation Of Islam's leader. The obscurity of this very irrational rationalization highlights the inherent prejudices of witch hunters and conspiracy theorists. There is no proof that Green's attack, tragic as it may be, was caused by the Nation Of Islam, Black Lives Matter or any other group. But people at the time were scared and so they developed fantasies to help them deal with their fears of a coming and comically mythical “race war”. If you look back in history you will find that, whenever a black man commits a crime, all black men are subsequently downgraded in status and meant with a cautious eye by white America. There were also conspiracy theories about defund the police causing this crime, but that has no basis in reality either. "In truth, there is no significant Defund-the-Police movement coming from Milwaukee. The concept of defunding the police is very unpopular, including among communities of color." But Tucker Carlson has blamed defund nonetheless. That is not to say that all white people engage in this prejudice, but it is childish to assume that a small or moderate number of people cannot have an effect on the narrative of a nation that was almost recently overthrown by a few thousand morons. There are also constant narratives about wars on Christmas floating around during this time of year. Many Christians believe that people are angry at them for simply existing, and constant imaginings of persecution fester in the heads of many of America's Christians. But, most of the time, these violent acts come about because of the negligence of the American justice system. I am not talking about the cops here, but the court system. An assistant district attorney simply failed to set the appropriate bail for Brooks. According to the county district attorney John Chisholm, "You had a young ADA trying to do the very best she could under difficult circumstances, and she made a mistake.” I am not saying that should settle the concerns of the community where this heinous act took place. I am just reporting the truth and the fact of the matter is that the truth is never satisfying, nor does it lead to simple solutions. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/morecontentplease/support

Williams Evans and Omar Holman created a community on their popular website BlackNerdProblems.com as a response to the lack of diversity in comic and gaming culture. What grew from that is their new book of the same name, featuring a collection of essays that they call a “love letter to nerd culture” that also speaks to the sometimes-complicated intersection of race and nerd culture. The founders and authors talk with Mark about what it is to be a modern-day nerd, a title that no longer bears a negative connotation. Beyond that, what is it to be a Black nerd? What exactly are “Black nerd problems?” The three also discuss the death of Darrien Hunt and the potentially dangerous side to “cosplaying while Black.” BUY their book here: https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Black-Nerd-Problems/William-Evans/9781982150235 READ their website here: www.blacknerdproblems.com Executive Producer: Adell Coleman Producer: Brittany Temple Distributor: DCP Entertainment For additional content: makeitplain.com Learn more about your ad choices. William Evans is an actor, writer, improviser, and the cohost of five currently defunct podcasts. He hails from the city of Los Angeles and will make time to go on your podcast if it means he can talk for an exorbitant amount of time about his personal life or his obsession with Disney/Pixar's CARS franchise. You can find him on Instagram @wills2021usernameIn this episode Will talks about moving around a lot as a kid and what he got out of each of the very different types of schools (homeschooling, Catholic school, Mormon school, liberal arts school). Together we explore his experience of being disillusioned by the world and his desire to live a "normal" life. Trigger Warning: there is mention of attempted suicide in the second half of the episode.- - Would you like to be on the show? Nominate a friend? On "EWTN News Nightly" tonight: For the second time in less than three months, mourners honor a fallen police officer at the US Capitol. This time it is William Evans, who like Brian Sicknick before him, is lying in honor inside the US Capitol rotunda. And despite what health officials call “a really rare event” and “less than one in a million,” the COVID-19 vaccine produced by Johnson and Johnson has been paused after rare reports of blood clots involving six women, one of whom died. President of the National Catholic Bioethics Center, Dr. Joseph Meaney, joins to share how he thinks this news will impact the overall distribution and supply of COVID-19 vaccines and what it means to pause a particular vaccine. Meanwhile, a global expert on religious freedom is concerned about a shift in policy for current US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, compared to the Trump administration. Nina Shea, the director of the Center for Religious Freedom at the Hudson Institute, discusses the kind of impact this will have on the millions of victims of religious persecution around the world. Finally this evening, the Vatican has announced preparations for a symposium on the priesthood. Father Sergio Tapia-Velasco from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross tells us what the symposium is about and why it is important to reflect on the theology of the priesthood. Conor Tallon and Michael Waldron astnt Curator at the Crawford Art Gallery are...Talking heads this week! It's artist James Barry's 215th anniversary, so we've dedicated this WORK OF THE WEEK to him!The remarkable career of ‘great historical painter' James Barry (1741-1806) took him from his native Cork to Dublin, Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice, and finally London. His life in the British capital saw him become not only a member of the Royal Academy of Arts but also its professor of painting. In 1799, however, his outspoken views gained him the distinction of being the only academician to ever be expelled… until 2004, that is!James Barry died in London on this day in 1806 and, on 4 March, he was interred next to his great rival, Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792), in the crypt at St Paul's Cathedral. A memorial was later erected there, featuring one of four busts of Barry modelled by Joseph Panzetta (fl.1789-1830) but based on a portrait by William Evans. Another of these busts has been in The Crawford collection since 2005. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

William Evans has been working in the horticulture and nursery industry for over 20 years and brings a wealth of experience to the table. Today’s podcast is all about containers. While I’ve always been a proponent of planting directly into the ground when possible, this is not an option in many situations and propagation is best done in small trays or containers. William shares with us how containers can dramatically reduce transplant shock, improve worker efficiency, increase plant health, and a myriad of other benefits. We also talk about how the wrong container can cause major issues resulting in poor growth, root girdling, and even the potential for your container being a source of contamination. We also discuss and exciting organic solution for slugs in your garden. https://www.kisorganics.com/pages/cannabis-cultivation-and-science-podcast-episode-18

The old saying "A man s home is his castle" has never been more true than today. It s no longer not just enough to provide shelter for yourself and your family, we also want to create a space that reflects our style in which we can live, work, and play. And that also looks really impressive. Baton Rouge has a long and venerable tradition in Southern vernacular architecture that has evolved over the past 20 years to reflect some of the most exciting new trends in the field. One of those leading the charge is Dwayne Carruth. Dwayne is the owner of The Front Door Architecture which has designed over 2000 homes in 14 states over the past two decades. Dwayne recently relocated his firm s offices here in Baton Rouge to a shared creative space he helped develop 1010 Nic. While Dwayne is designing residential exteriors, William Evans does interior design. William is the owner of Abat Jour Interiors and Design. The company has a storefront on Government Street and South Foster Drive, where they sell home accessories and especially William s extraordinary custom lighting fixtures, lamps and shades. Rob Chidester creates spaces and places people can only fantasize about living in, because they only exist in the real world for a matter of hours. Though they live on forever in the movies and TV shows for which Rob designs and builds them. Rob is the owner of Royal Cyclops Productions and two giant warehouses filled with props and stage materials that you have to see to believe. All of Stephanie s guests on this edition of Out to Lunch agree that Baton Rouge is changing, they say "daily." Even if they re eaggerating by half and it s only every other day one thing is for sure this is not your grandfather s Baton Rouge. Photos at Mansurs on the Boulevard by Ken Stewart. Joe researchs much off the grid and is an avid hiker, backpacker and bicyclist. In September 2012, Joe started a Facebook group called Bigfoot Sightings Anonymous. Joe has worked with fellow researchers William Evans and Freeman Young. What resulted was a spastic interview that covered everything from the band's origins with local music to their favorite cereal and youtube videos. The conversation is a bit indicative of what you can expect from the band's music, regardless of how the direction you're taking with it you know that you're in for something that's entertaining. While Whatever Brains' past three untitled full-lengths have displayed a gradual progression from spastic punk stand-outs to electronically leaning front-runners, the band's humility continually shines through. Whether you're looking to find out about the band's upcoming release, slated to be a “rock opera” split-single, or to hear about what they're listening to in their free time, our Local Artist of the Month feature pinpoints what makes Whatever Brains tick.Vocalist Rich Ivey delves into his songwriting process and the importance of lyrics while one of the band's numerous keyboardists William Evans tackles the topics of contemporary influences. For the next forty minutes you can immerse yourself in our off-kilt conversations about the past, present and future of one of the region's most underrated acts, Whatever Brains.
Yusef Lateef (born William Evans in Chattanooga, Tennessee and raised in Detroit) was 80 years old on October 9 2008 and is still teaching/lecturing and performing. Yusef really became prominent to the Jazz community in general when he expanded Cannonball Adderley's Quintet to a Sextet, adding his compositions, his flute and oboe and of course, his mighty tenor saxophone to the Adderley band. After leaving Adderley, he embarked on a career leading his own bands and recording for Impulse,Atlantic and his own label YAL Records.....YAL standing for Yusef Abdul Lateef. Before he settled in New York in 1960 he had led his own groups out of Detroit after graduating from Wayne State University in music. He worked as much as he wanted in the Motor City and came to New York to play the odd engagement but mostly to record for the Savoy,Prestige and New Jazz labels. His one album for Norman Granz' Verve label is tonight's Feature and it's one of Yusef's early triumphs. The recording became a valued collector's item as it was only issued once. It saw CD release in 1998 but is no longer available as it was a limited edition release. This fine recording has Mr. Lateef on mostly tenor saxophone and on one track on flute. Curtis Fuller is on trombone, the late, underrated pianist is Hugh Lawson,Ernie Farrow is on bass and Louis Hayes, all of 19 years old, is on drums. All, save for one tune by Charlie Parker, are by Lateef and show his wide range of expression. The album is a minor classic and should be re-issued again.
