You're listening to the Build That Business Podcast, episode 47. Today, I have my good friend Kristen DeBats coming on the show to talk about my favorite thing even - I'm in heaven. Today, we're talking about bridal shows, wedding shows and the power of staying in front of your audience face-to-face. Kristen is part of the Wedding In New York team (they serve Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse) and she and her team throw the most wonderful bridal shows. I owe so much of my success to her and I'm just so grateful for her. What we'll cover : 1. Bridal Show Myths. Why do you think that bridal shows sometimes get a bad wrap? People say they won't work, they're full of freebie seekers, their ideal client isn't at the show - ALL total excuses in my opinion. But let's just talk about those and nip them in the bud. 2. Why is face to face marketing still important in the age of social media? 3. How to choose what event is right for you and your business? What are the first steps if people listening are like - okay I'm ready to give this a shot! 4. How to prepare for a Bridal Show - the show prep, what to do at the show, and the follow up. 5. How to track your ROI. Was the show worth it? Thanks for tuning into today's episode of the Build That Business Podcast! Today, we're talking about my favorite thing to talk about, Bridal Shows. They are my number one source of leads and I personally think they're the most under-rated lead generation source in the wedding industry. We average 25k PER SHOW. That's right, $25,000 every bridal show we go to. Today, I'm breaking down how we do that and specifically how I scheduled 12 appointments at my first show. These 12 appointments started a snowball effect to get me from $30k to $300k in yearly revenue in just 5 years. You see, I've since perfected my bridal show strategy and now it's our number one source of leads. But first, I gotta address the elephant in the room. Let me ask you, have you ever thought about these things? “Bridal shows are full of budget shoppers” “My ideal customers don't go to bridal shows” “The bridal shows in my area are not the same as yours, Lindsay. They're not big, they're not well attended” No, I'm not a mind reader. I just know this might be what you think when you hear me say Bridal Shows. Listen, I've heard all the excuses. You can continue to pretend like you're too good for bridal shows, but you're doing yourself a MAJOR disservice. The reason bridal shows are not working for you has nothing to do with any of the above, it has to do with the fact that you're just signing up and showing up. What are you doing to warm up the lead before the show? So that by the time people walk by your booth, they know you and are ready to book an appointment. Couples come to these shows ready to plan. Hundreds of people who are engaged and need your services are walking right by your booth. If you cant book at least a few weddings, you're doing something wrong. And I say all of this with ALL THE LOVE in the world, because I want you to win. I know the power of bridal shows and with just a few tweaks to your strategy, you'll see how powerful these lead generating machines are too. Have I convinced you to give them a shot yet? A message preached by Pastor Mike Henry at Royal View Baptist Church.
Community Reporter Kim Thistle shares all about the Ultimate Bridal Show Winter 2022, in St John's, Newfoundland.
We're here for the last and third episode in our wedding show tips series. This one is the “after the show” edition. This part is just as important as the rest, even as important as the actual show. I'd even go so far as to say if you're not going to do anything for the show after the show, you might as well not even do it!You know where I'm going with this, it's all about the follow up.Here in the wedding industry, everything is about the follow up, and it's especially true for wedding shows. We're talking tips here on this episode, so let's get to it. 1. You want to position yourself to be the first to follow up. It's a proven fact that most often, couples book with the first vendors they hear from.2. Be first by being organized. When a couple gives you their information personally, and is already interested in you at the show, those are the ones you contact first. Keep their info in a different place than everyone else's.3. Do not wait for the show contact list (if one is provided), to start following up.You remember from the last episode that you're collecting info from the couples who visit your booth, you're contacting them immediately after the show. Like I'm talking even the same day if possible.4. You'll also remember from the last episode that you're staying until the end. If it gets a little slow at the end, and you don't need to use that time to network with other vendors (you should be doing that too), you can use that time to be ready to follow up after the show too.5. If your home is a busy place in the evenings, and if you can swing it, plan to get home an hour or two later than when you would be if you came straight home. Use that time to either go out with your vendor friends and keep nurturing those relationships, or to go somewhere quiet and start working through your most urgent follow ups.6. Follow up with a video to remind them of who you are. You just interacted with them in person, it's always powerful to interact over video, but it's extra important in this case because they'll remember your face more than they'll remember your name, or even your business name.Just shoot a quick video on your phone and send it with your email. Trust me.7. Follow up with your new vendor friends and schedule a coffee date with them. And not just your new vendor friends, but also any familiar vendors who you saw at the show too.8. Follow up with any of your current or past clients you may have seen at the show. Let them know how great it was to see them again. If you have a referral program, let them know about it.Hot tip: Send a handwritten note to your top 10 contacts you made at the show. Whether they're potential clients, current clients, past clients, or vendor connections, handwritten notes are very powerful and one of my very favorite things to send… and receive. Bonus: send one to the show's producer thanking them and telling them something you loved about the show.Do you wish you could fill your calendar faster and easier? It's always easy to do on your own, so I've created a free challenge for you, where we'll walk through it together. The challenge starts on September 21, when you sign up right now you'll get an action item that will have you starting with the right foundation!Just go to www.letsbookclients.com/referralschallenge to sign up today!
As I said on the previous episode, this definitely isn't an exhaustive checklist, it's a bitesized pro tip 5 minute list of some important things to make sure you're keeping in mind.1. Show up early. You'll feel so much more comfortable and prepared personally, you'll have some time to breathe before attendees show up, and it will give you an opportunity to connect with your fellow vendors. It can even put you in a position to help someone who might be running late. That is a great opportunity for some of the best connections, it really makes you memorable. One show we did, a bakery was running late so when they arrived we jumped in and helped (because we knew this pro tip of being early), and she gave us her show special to pass on to one of our couples. It made for a great perk for the couple, gave her an extra booking, and was the beginning of a great lasting vendor relationship.2. If the show allows for it, stand in front of your table. You heard me say stand, right? We're not using chairs. Like at all. You're going to be the one who is approachable, and if you can have your table toward the back of your booth, there's less barrier between you and the attendees, which automatically makes you more approachable.Every time I do a show and there's a vendor who sits, yes sits, behind a table and waits to be approached, they're the vendors who are also complaining that the show wasn't good for them. It's not that long of a time, if you can physically stand for it, the benefits are definitely worth it.3. Smile and connect. Give a genuine compliment. Ask them about their big day, their relationship, how they met, how the engagement was, etc. This makes you so much more memorable for them.4. Connect with their loved ones they brought with them too. It's great for them because those are their favorite people and you connecting with them makes a great impression. It also goes a long way with playing the long game, you never know who else might need your services in the future. Everyone who's getting married knows someone else who is or will soon also be engaged. It might just be someone they brought with them.5. Use times when the show has an attraction, like a fashion show, to get a little more time with an attendee who wants more time to chat (and even book) with you.If that's not the case, use that time to connect with your fellow vendors around you.6. Stay the whole time. Again, this probably sounds obvious, but there are always vendors who pack up and leave early.Guess what, there are always attendees who show up at the end too, and the ones still there are really showing that they're the most dedicated to both their business and to the attendees. Also, I promise you the show's producer wants to serve each attendee to the fullest and will be more impressed with you if you stay to the end, and that often really does matter.I've even been to shows that will blacklist vendors who pack up early.7. On the flip side of staying the whole time, is to have the ability to break down and get out quickly when the show is over.Equally important to the show's producer, who has probably been there hours longer than you and was there the day before too, they'll also be annoyed if they have to stay and wait for you to be the last one breaking down.Breaking down quickly also gives you a chance to stick around and chat with youDo you wish you could fill your calendar faster and easier? It's always easy to do on your own, so I've created a free challenge for you, where we'll walk through it together. The challenge starts on September 21, when you sign up right now you'll get an action item that will have you starting with the right foundation!Just go to www.letsbookclients.com/referralschallenge to sign up today!

Carlo was immersed in the family catering business from the age of 5; he saw his parents toil and work in a tough and grueling environment. Carlo helped with tending bar, waiting tables, washing dishes, and any required kitchen help. He even assembled entire weddings on his own. During this time, he became aware of the sociological aspects of the event industry. In conjunction with his father in the 1980's, Carlo opened "Le Jardin de Toronto Banquet Hall" as a one-room banquet facility. A year later, Carlo purchased the business completely and opened a second room on the premises. Sales increased by 65% in one year. In 1995, Carlo took over the catering operations at Hunters' Glen Golf Club in Kleinburg. Sales at Hunters' Glen increased by over 300% the first year and to over 450% in the second year with the addition of a tent facility and then a second tent facility. In 1998, he opened the Private Box catering of the newly created Hershey Centre in Mississauga, as well as, managed the operations of the Icebreakers Sports Café at Iceland Hockey Arena.. In 2005, he developed 230 residential lots in Barrie, Ontario at the corner of Yonge Street and Mapleview Drive. The development has now increased to almost 2000 residential units with a GO Train Station next to the subdivision. In 2007, came the renovation which doubled the original wing of Le Jardin Special Event Centre: sales increased by 30%. This is to be the façade of the new and upcoming Hotel, planned for 2013. Carlo has also been developing a proprietary catering software system, called, CaterX, www.CaterX.ca, to be marketed in the near future. In 2009, Carlo purchased www.FindABanquetHall.com, an Event Venue directory and revamped it. This was a dormant website which now appears on the first page of Google when searching for Banquet Halls, ahead of all its competitors, such as Yellow Pages, Menu Palace, Event Source, etc. Carlo is the creative force behind Long Valley Productions: the parent company of Last Bride Standing, Toronto's Bridal Show, and FindABanquetHall.com. During 2009, Carlo created the TV Show and Contest, “Last Bride Standing” which became a hit over two seasons in Canada on Sun TV. It taped its fourth Season in HD, as well as 3D - the first Reality TV show in the history of the world to be filmed in 3D. The first two seasons are presently airing in the US on Wedding Central with distribution deals being negotiated with Britain, Australia, France and Dubai. Last Bride Standing is also the very first 3D reality show ever filmed. The 3D season released in Fall 2011. In 2010, he created “Toronto's Bridal Show”, which became the Bridal Show to attend. The live taping of Last Bride Standing was held at the show, and has now become the second largest show by attendees and vendors out of six shows in less than one year in Toronto. Carlo has since sold the show. In 2012, he created “Yo Amo Tacos Bar ‘n Grill” in Playa del Carmen, Mexico and then in 2014 created the same restaurant concept in Toronto (Woodbridge). Carlo is presently working on the final expansion of Le Jardin, with the addition of a new Marriott Hotel, Tribute Portfolio, called Hotel Vie, Conference & Spa, adjacent to the existing 80,000 sq. ft. Event Venue. The Hotel will boast 254 guest suites and 54 office suites. There will be 3 restaurants: CLJ Restaurant & Enoteca and Monet Courtyard, a 5 Star 200-seat restaurant and patio, , as well as Le Marche de Joe, a boulangerie and Café with an outdoor patio and La Terrasse” a Rooftop Pool/Lounge + Restaurant. There will also be an Outdoor Tented Courtyard for private events, Le Jardin Courtyard, an Indoor Pool & Fitness Centre, Le Salle de Gym, an 8,000 sq. ft. Spa, Giverny Spa, and a Private Members' Wine Club, Le Club de Vin.
This week we’re delivering the damn good story behind one of beauty’s biggest innovations, The Original Makeup Eraser! Accidental inventor Lexi McCarthy dishes the dirt on the O.G. reusable polyester cloth that broke the beautysphere by removing all traces of makeup with get this - no cleanser or chemicals whatsoever. You’ll hear all about how busy mom of four Elexis McCarthy (aka Lexi) discovered her sustainable beauty invention that’s sold over 5 million units since it launched at a Bridal Show back in 2013. (Just one Makeup Eraser is equivalent to 3,600 disposable makeup wipes, and lasts for up to five years.) We find out just how the heck this magical cloth *actually* works to remove even waterproof makeup; the reason Demi Moore claimed it saved her hyper-sensitive skin in a recent (unpaid) get-unready-with-me video; plus, major scoop on the brand’s next innovation - something *so big* Sephora is calling it just as “disruptive” as the original game-changing cloth.Get social with us and let us know what you think of the episode! What is it about weddings?????? Why do so many of us desperately love everything wedding, even if we're no where near becoming engaged, or already married? Anna and Melissa attempt to answer this question, but only after Anna had to lie about being engaged to get them into a terrible Bridal Show. A few bad recordings during a bridal fashion show and $40 deposits with a time share company later, Anna and Melissa left the Anaheim Convention Center with this episode and theoretically a free trip to Vegas.
