A storm system will bring widespread showers and thunderstorms to the area today. Some storms could produce damaging winds and large hail. A Flood Watch is in effect for North Texas, including Dallas and Fort Worth until 1 a.m. Wednesday with the possibility of 1 to 3 inches of rainfall. In other news, Dallas City Council and school board elections attracted few eligible voters, a decades long trend that has voting advocates trying to figure out how to make local contests more appealing. According to the county's elections department, Dallas County municipal elections attracted only 8.4% of 1.4 million registered voters; a second teenager has been arrested in connection with the March slaying of a 14-year-old boy in east Oak Cliff. 17-year old Juan Saucedo was arrested Sunday and booked into the Dallas County jail on a capital murder charge in the death of Adam Gutierrez; falling crude prices will eventually translate into lower prices at the gas pump for consumers, but that doesn't mean it's all good news ― especially for Texas-based oil producers; and Paige Bueckers might be getting ready for her rookie season with the Dallas Wings, but she is still on the receiving end of awards for her collegiate career. Bueckers was named the winner of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards' Honda Sport Award for basketball. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Today is the day of the Great NBA Reset! Basketball has fallen from its once esteemed place among sports. Now it's full of entitled children who will sell out in a heartbeat for the bag. We have no one to blame but ourselves. Have no fear, though, because Jason Whitlock is here. On today's special episode of "Fearless," Jason, joined by YouTuber and NBA analyst Jay Skapinac (Skap Attack), unpacks his plan to save the NBA from its oncoming doom. Whitlock's plan fixes not only the regular season but also the off-season. Could this be the lifeboat the NBA has been looking for? Or will the league go down with the sinking ship? It's about time the NBA gives back more power to the fan, and we at "Fearless" have the answer. Later in the show, Jason and Skap address Shedeur Sanders' and Travis Hunter's jersey retirement at Colorado. Did both of them have noteworthy careers to warrant this level of praise? Paige Bueckers is the official No. 1 overall draft pick by the Dallas Wings at the WNBA draft, but that isn't even the news of the night. Paige and one of her UCONN teammates in attendance seem to be pretty close. Rumors spread about how deep their relationship really is. Maybe this is why the WNBA holds Bueckers in higher regard than Caitlin Clark. Finally, Jason reacts to a sound bite from "The Karen Hunter Show" of former journalist turned social justice activist John Mitchell, who has some words to say about Jason. Mitchell is very outspoken about his relationship with Stephen A. Smith. Could this mean that Whitlock lives rent-free in SAS's head? We explore whether this injury could be a blessing in disguise for UConn, as younger players gain valuable experience in the thick of Big East play. We also preview UConn's upcoming matchup against Georgetown and analyze whether the Hoyas can make this game more competitive than their first meeting. Finally, we take a look around women's college basketball: LSU remains undefeated, South Carolina faces a major setback with Ashlyn Watkins' injury, and the national landscape is heating up as March approaches. Segment 1: Who Needs to Step Up Without Paige Bueckers?Azzi Fudd and Sarah Strong have stepped up admirably in Paige Bueckers' absence, with Fudd leading the offensive charge and Strong continuing her reliable two-way play. Allie Ziebell has been the breakout star, scoring 17 points off the bench in the win over Xavier, including five made three-pointers. Her poise and confidence raise the question of whether she's ready to contribute consistently. Other players to watch include Jana El Alfy, who has adapted well to her new starting role, and Morgan Cheli, who could provide impactful minutes off the bench. With Aubrey Griffin set to return in about a week, the rotation will gain even more depth, and her defensive energy and veteran leadership will be crucial. Segment 2: Is This Injury a Blessing in Disguise? The timing of Paige Bueckers' injury could actually be a positive for UConn in the long run. With the Huskies in the middle of Big East play, Geno Auriemma has an opportunity to give younger players extended minutes, allowing them to build confidence and gain experience. UConn's upcoming matchup against Georgetown presents another chance for players to step up. In their first meeting, the Huskies dominated, but the Hoyas have made adjustments, with senior center Ariel Jenkins and guard Kelsey Ransom leading the way. Jenkins has been a force on the boards, and Ransom brings scoring versatility, making them key players to watch in this rematch. UConn must show they can maintain their dominance without Bueckers, and a strong performance will reinforce their position as title contenders. Segment 3: Around Women's College BasketballLSU continues to impress with their perfect 18-0 record, punctuated by a road win over Tennessee. The Tigers are proving themselves as legitimate title contenders, but questions remain about their strength of schedule. Meanwhile, South Carolina suffered a devastating blow with the loss of Ashlyn Watkins to an ACL injury. Watkins was a key defensive anchor and a strong presence in the paint, and her absence will significantly impact the Gamecocks' title hopes. The national landscape is also shifting as teams jockey for position ahead of March. UConn is currently projected as a No. 2 seed, USC is surging behind JuJu Watkins, and several teams outside the top five are making a case for deeper tournament runs. This is shaping up to be one of the most competitive seasons in recent memory, with every game adding more intrigue to the race for a national championship.  “Thanks for listening to Locked On UConn. Let me start with this: if the WNBA held a draft today, and Sarah Strong was eligible, I'd take her No. 1 overall— Don't get me wrong, there are phenomenal players everywhere, but Sarah Strong has that once-in-a-generation combination of skill, versatility, and poise. She's just 11 games into her collegiate career, and already, she looks like a fully polished pro. Like she's already has a mortgage, 4 kids she manages an ungrateful husband and crushes here day on the daily, she looks like she has grown people problems, not whether her teammates called her go go gaget arms lol. Nothing rattles her. She's incredibly. Strong is averaging over 16 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals per game, and she's doing it efficiently while being UConn's defensive anchor. She doesn't just fill a role; she dominates the flow of the game. Her ability to shoot from outside, attack inside, and create for others is unparalleled. When you're looking at franchise players in the WNBA, you want someone who can do it all, and Sarah Strong is that player.  When looking at the projected 2025 WNBA Draft class, Paige Bueckers is the clear headliner, pegged as the potential No. 1 pick by the Dallas Wings. Known for her elite ball-handling, scoring ability, and clutch performances, Bueckers has captivated fans since her freshman year at UConn. She's the definition of a complete player—someone who can run your offense, take over games, and lead a team. And honestly, you can easily make the case for Paige going No. 1 over Sarah Strong. Her résumé, experience, and proven ability in the clutch are unmatched. But when you factor in her injury history, I'd lean toward Sarah Strong. Injuries have been a recurring challenge for Paige, and while she's bounced back admirably, the pro ranks draft not just on what a player has done but on what they could become. Nobody has more upside than Sarah Strong. Now, take a step back and look at the rest of the top five in the mock draft—Kiki Iriafen, Aneesah Morrow, Olivia Miles. All incredible talents. But are any of them as impactful to their current teams as Sarah Strong is to UConn? The answer is no. Strong has the size, versatility, and poise to impact the game in every way, and that's rare. She's a scorer, a defender, a playmaker. She controls the pace of the game and elevates everyone around her. The pro ranks are all about upside and potential, and that's where Strong sets herself apart. No one else in this draft class—Paige included—has the ceiling Sarah Strong does. If I'm building a franchise and looking for a transcendent cornerstone, she's the player I'm picking. And yet, I'll say it again: if Sarah Strong were eligible, I'd take her over any of them. Even if underclassmen like Hanna Hidalgo or Juju Watkins were allowed in the draft, Strong would still be my choice. The WNBA is all about projecting where you'll be and future potential, and Strong brings the promise of potentially being the greatest baskeball player of her generation maybe of all time. She has the skillset, basketball IQ, and poise to transform a franchise from day one—exactly what you look for in a No. 1 overall pick. Now, you might argue Paige Bueckers has the track record, and JuJu Watkins has the raw explosiveness. Both are valid points. But in a league that's constantly evolving toward positionless basketball, I want the player who can impact every aspect of the game from day one. Sarah Strong is that, and that's why, if I had the No. 1 pick, she's the choice.”   FAN DUEL: Get ready to tackle the NFL action with FanDuel America's – Number One Sportsbook! Because right now, new customers can bet FIVE DOLLARS get ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY in BONUS BETS if you win! The FanDuel Sportsbook app gives you everything you need to place live bets on the NFL - all in one place! So when you get a hunch in the middle of the game, you can check out the latest stats, view live play-by-play and so much more on the same page where you place your bets. Just visit FANDUEL DOT COM to join today. You'll get started with ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS in BONUS BETS if you win your first FIVE DOLLAR bet. That's FANDUEL DOT COM Never waste a hunch and make every moment more with FanDuel, an official sportsbook partner of the NFL  PRIZE PICKS: Alright, UConn Nation, here's something to think about—do you think Liam McNeeley is going more or less than 14.5 points tonight? The Huskies weren't just good—they were historic, setting a program record with 20 made three-pointers. UConn shot 58.8% from deep and overwhelmed the Cyclones from the opening tip to the final buzzer. The final score was 101-68, but honestly, it felt like it could've been worse. The story of the night? Ashlynn Shade. She came out firing, scoring UConn's first 14 points and finishing the first quarter with 20 on a perfect 7-7 shooting, including six threes. Shade ended the game with a career-high 27 points, going 10-13 from the field and 7-10 from three. Now, Sarah Strong was the game's MVP, and rightfully so. She posted a personal-best 29 points, hit five threes, grabbed nine rebounds, and added four assists. Paige Bueckers wasn't far behind with her third straight 20-point game, finishing with 27 points on 10-15 shooting. But here's the thing: on a night when Strong and Bueckers were both outstanding, it was Shade who stole the spotlight. Her hot start set the tone, and Iowa State never recovered. Led by Shade's scorching first quarter, UConn jumped out to a 36-10 lead, essentially ending the game in the first 10 minutes. The trio of Strong, Shade, and Bueckers combined for 83 points on 65% shooting, including 17 made threes. That's the kind of firepower that makes UConn the team to beat. Looking ahead, UConn takes on No. 7 USC this Saturday in a White Out game at the XL Center. This will be a much tougher test, but if the Huskies can carry over this shooting performance, they'll be hard to stop.” TNT CFP: CFP It's that time of the year - The College Football Playoff is back! Don't miss a moment of the action. Watch the College Football Playoff presented by Allstate - LIVE on TNT, TruTV, TBS & Max!    Segment 3: Key Injuries and Emerging Contributors “Unfortunately, it wasn't all good news for UConn. Ayanna Patterson is officially out for the season. It's a tough blow for a player who was showing signs of growth, and her absence will be felt in terms of depth and physicality. Meanwhile, Azzi Fudd remains on the mend, and while Geno Auriemma hasn't ruled her out for the USC game, I wouldn't expect to see her on Saturday. That said, the Huskies continue to get meaningful contributions from their younger players. Morgan Cheli and Allie Ziebell were solid off the bench last night, providing energy and making smart plays. KK Arnold was also steady, running the offense without making mistakes and playing great defense. She's not flashy, but her consistency is exactly what you need from a backup guard. What stands out about this team is the balance. Even without Patterson and Fudd, they're getting contributions across the board. Players are stepping into their roles and thriving, whether it's Ashlynn Shade lighting up the scoreboard or KK Arnold giving you the energy. Depth and adaptability are going to be crucial as UConn heads into a challenging stretch of games, starting with USC. If they can maintain this level of play, they'll solidify their spot as one of the nation's top teams.” Closing ThoughtsThe Huskies made a statement last night with their record-breaking win, and they're poised for an even bigger challenge against USC on Saturday. This has been another episode of Locked On UConn. The UConn Huskies put on an offensive masterclass at Mohegan Sun, demolishing Iowa State 101-68 in a game fueled by a relentless offensive flow and lights-out shooting. Freshman Ashlynn Shade led the charge with 20 points in the first quarter, while Sarah Strong and Paige Bueckers piled on with dominant performances. This wasn't just a win—it was a statement about UConn's offensive identity and willingness to hunt high-percentage shots instead of playing it safe. Show Notes: Segment 1: Ashlynn Shade's Red-Hot Start• Ashlynn Shade wasted no time, dropping 20 points in the first quarter, including a barrage of threes that set the tone for the entire game.• Her energy and confidence on offense were contagious, sparking a 36-10 first-quarter lead.• Discussion points:• How Shade's aggressiveness opened up the offense for others.• The impact of a freshman stepping into such a big role this early in her career.• Key Stat: Shade shot 7-of-10 from three overall, finishing with 27 points. Segment 2: Sarah Strong and Paige Bueckers Take Over• Sarah Strong: A dominant 29 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists, showcasing her all-around game and control in the paint.• Paige Bueckers: Smooth and efficient with 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting, including 5-of-7 from beyond the arc.• This duo not only maintained the lead but also kept the offense flowing seamlessly in the middle quarters.• Discussion points:• How Strong's versatility creates mismatches.• Bueckers' role as the veteran leader and sharpshooter who sets the pace.• Key Stat: Bueckers and Strong combined for 54 points, shooting a combined 58% from the field. Segment 3: The New Identity – Hunting Threes and Spreading the Floor• UConn's offense looked different tonight—focused, fluid, and fearless. The Huskies hunted high-percentage threes rather than hesitating or settling for contested mid-range shots.• Team Shooting Numbers:• 58.8% from three (20-of-34).• 27 assists on 37 made field goals—a clear sign of unselfish, purposeful ball movement.• This approach speaks to Geno Auriemma's confidence in his shooters and the depth of this team's offensive talent.• Discussion points:• How “shooters shoot” defines this team's offensive identity.• The importance of generating quality looks from beyond the arc, especially against tougher opponents.• How the bench, including Jana El Alfy and Morgan Cheli, adds versatility to maintain offensive flow.• Key Stat: UConn outscored Iowa State 60-24 from beyond the arc. Closing Thoughts: The Huskies' dominant performance wasn't just about talent—it was about mindset. Ashlynn Shade, Sarah Strong, and Paige Bueckers led an offense that wasn't afraid to take big shots, proving that this team is confident, unselfish, and ready to compete at the highest level. UConn is making it clear: shooters shoot, and when you move the ball and trust your teammates, great things happen. Geno Auriemma called her skill set the best he's seen in a post player since Stewart, further emphasizing her value to the Huskies' championship hopes. While she's a mature force on the court, Strong's lighthearted postgame moment following her 21-point performance against Louisville—where she admitted not knowing what “Go-Go Gadget arms” meant—was a rare glimpse into her youth. Her play, however, continues to silence any doubts about her ability to thrive under immense pressure. Segment 2: Caitlin Clark's Influence and Women's Basketball's Bright FutureShifting to Caitlin Clark, her recent recognition as Time Athlete of the Year reflects her influence both on and off the court. Clark's candid interview delves into the privilege she acknowledges as a white player in a league built on the excellence of Black athletes, showing her self-awareness and willingness to push for equity. Her thoughtful remarks also tackle the unique challenges faced by female athletes, from gender-based double standards to intense scrutiny over emotional responses during games. Clark's transparency and charisma make her a generational star, and her rise comes as the WNBA is poised to receive its most talented wave of players yet. With stars like Paige Bueckers entering the professional ranks soon and players like Sarah Strong waiting in the wings, women's basketball is experiencing a golden era that continues to break barriers and captivate audiences. Segment 3: Sarah Strong's Place in UConn's Legacy and Women's Basketball's FutureReturning to Sarah Strong, her Big East honors mark another chapter in her remarkable journey. Her ability to impact both ends of the court and her statistical dominance elevate her to a level of stardom usually reserved for seasoned veterans. With players like Strong setting new standards, the future of UConn basketball and women's basketball as a whole is brighter than ever. Strong joins a lineage of excellence at UConn, but her unique blend of skills and leadership potential position her as a generational talent capable of leading the Huskies for years to come. As the team prepares for its next challenge against No. 8 Notre Dame, Sarah Strong's performances will be critical, not just for UConn's success this season but for continuing to build the legacy of one of the most storied programs in college basketball. FanDuel Ad Copy:Get ready to tackle the NFL action with FanDuel, America's Number One Sportsbook!
