Episode 27 of season 5 aired on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 7 July 2022.  The show kicked off with a live track from Volbeat called 'Maybellene I Hofteholder'.  It was a nice way to start actually and it sort of set the tone for a mellow (by TSORR standards) beginning.  From there we had a band called Austin Gold with the title track off their debut album Before Black Clouds.  Next up California Breed, that's half of Black Country Communion, plus Ozzy Osbourne producer Andrew Watt.  After that, we smashed some of that Southern Rock action with Blackfoot and Rhino Bucket.  Rhino Bucket is out of California so while not strictly Southern Rock, you can hear the influences in the music.  The track we played was 'Going Down Tonight'.  We also had some of SA's own Jasper Dan which is a band I really dig.   Danko Jones let off a bit of steam and offered up some good advice on what to do when people cross you.  We also said farewell and RIP to Manny Charlton, guitarist and founder member of the beloved 70's juggernaut known by the name of Nazareth.  'Hair of the Dog' was a fitting tribute to a great guitarist and songwriter.  Mannie was 80 so that's pretty good for rock and roll, well played sir.  We listen to Queensrÿche and Rush, two giants of prog according to some, but I figure it's not prog because I really love it.  Carlos Santana had a collapse on stage this week and was rushed to hospital, he's OK, a bit of dehydration (the dude is 74) so to wish him well (because he never misses TSORR lol) we played his version of 'Whole Lotta Love' feat. Chris Cornell.  Overall it was a fairly balanced show, we were light on Aussie and German stuff and only managed 4 SA tracks, one of which is my latest discovery, a band out of Cape Town called Infanteria, check them out they are great.  The classic '80s stuff came from Kiss, Dokken, and Dio and Asking Alexandria, Testament, and Amon Amarth brought the metal to the party.   We ended super mellow with The Stranglers and 'Don't Bring Harry' and a beautiful track from Wonderboom called "Night Falls Like a Grand Piano'.   I managed to tone down the doom and gloom a bit although we are still on Stage 5 load shedding in South Africa and it really affects the number of listeners that catch the show. This has been quite a palaver to get this episode out, after two days of wifi problems I finally managed to get it out so apologies for that.  Episode 38 of season 4 aired on 23 Sept 2021 at 19h00 on rebel Rock Radio.  It was quite different due to the unusual amount of South African music from unsigned acts.  We kicked off with The Clash by accident when Thin Lizzy 'Suicide' didn't load and I had to act fast with 'Clash City Rockers'.  From there on it was an hour of classic rock with Motörhead, Ozzy, Van Halen, Bowie, AX7 and Rammstein.I spent a bit of time discussing how Dan Patlansky is not only one of the most talented guitarists on the planet but has also contributed to SA music more than most through his guitar clinics which have inspired many amateurs to get stuck in and start getting their music out there.  Two such artists, Roan Ash and Roland Suttie are examples of this and were featured next.  We also took a listen to Dean Smith and his track 'Freedom Fighter' under the Deanangersmith monicker.  Dean is a SA Metal legend having been a mainstay of bands such as Odyssey, Ragnärok, Brothering, and Mouthful of Flies, he is absolutely prolific and deserves more recognition.  He also doesn't give a fuck what you think and that is what makes him so endearing :-)  We checked out another track from Mark Biagio and The Fismits and then got stuck into the brand new Stranglers album called Dark Matters.  I was extremely complimentary and made it clear once again just how much I love The Stranglers.  We did a bit of anger management with Fokofpolisiekar 'Angs Aanval' and Hatebreed with Black Flags 'Thirsty and Miserable.  All in all, it was one of my most enjoyable shows.  Hope you dig it.    Artists featured:  The Clash, Thin Lizzy, Mason Hill, Rammstein, Rob Zombie, Blue Öyster Cult, David Bowie Motörhead, Night Ranger, Ozzy Osbourne, Van Halen, Avenged Sevenfold, Tyr, Deanangersmith, The Fismits, the Pretty Reckless, Samantha Fish, Dan Patlansky, Roan Ash, Roland Suttie, ACDC, Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Cinderella, Bon Jovi, California Breed, Gojira, Marilyn Manson, The Stranglers, Seether, Dirty Honey, Airbourne, Fokofpolisiekar, Hatebreed, Mark Knopfler, Foo Fighters, The Gaslight Anthem, Billy Joe Armstrong

Glenn Hughes--bassist, singer, rocker, Hall of Famer, soul man, and cool guy--got some of the attention he deserved in 2016 when he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame along with other members of Deep Purple. But that overshadows what I consider to be his real accomplishment...no one had a better decade from 2010-2019 than Glenn Hughes. With Black Country Communion, California Breed, and the awesome solo record "Resonate" Glenn was the most powerful force in rock as he entered his 60s. Listen as I explain why.

In January 1986, Warner Brothers Records released what was to be the first solo album by Heavy Metal God, Tony Iommi, but just like when "Born Again" was dropped, Don Arden and the label insisted this record be called Black Sabbath. This was the fourth album released by Iommi and friends since 1980 featuring their third vocalist and second alumni of Deep Purple. Backing up Iommi's riffs and songs were Eric Singer (later of Kiss, Lita Ford, and Alice Cooper), Glenn Hughes (late of Deep Purple and Trapeze, later of Black Country Communion and California Breed), and Dan "The Beast" Spitz. Scott catches up with an old friend - the recently Grammy-nominated producer of the year - Andrew Watt! After a battle with coronavirus earlier this year, Andrew is back and busier than ever. The songwriter/producer/guitarist extraordinaire and Scott reminisce about old times and how they met. They dive into Andrew's journey - from his humble beginnings jamming with The Roots to touring with Cody Simpson and Justin Bieber. Andrew recalls moving to LA, pursuing a solo career, and joining California Breed, and he shares about his time working with acts like Post Malone, Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus, Dua Lipa, Lana Del Ray, and Camilla Cabello. Andrew discusses writing, producing, and playing on the new Ozzy Osbourne record, Ordinary Man, and he tells a great story about how the “Ordinary Man” single with Elton John came to be. Finally, Scott and Andrew touch base on his new solo record and his desire to work with Paul McCartney.
