The call of complexity draws some weavers to more shafts, more structures, more hand-manipulated techniques. For Annie MacHale, refining the techniques and celebrating the artistry of very simple bands has been a lifelong fascination. Starting when she first picked up a shuttle and inkle loom in her teens, Annie has worked in wool, cotton, and hemp, creating practical cloth that's just a few inches wide. Any bandweaver has heard the question more times than they can count: “But what can you do with it?” Annie replies, “The uses are limited only by your imagination.” Her work has found an avid audience and market among guitarists and reenactors. The simplicity of an inkle band is its key to versatility as a strap or ribbon. “A woven band can be so many things to so many people, and in the world of weaving, it's very simple, but it's also very useful,” she says. “That's what attracted me to inkle weaving.” (She has a list of uses on her website for anyone who weaves more bands than they currently have a use for.) Although Annie describes her own approach to design as spontaneous, her first book contains an extensive directory of patterns and palettes for weaving inkle bands. In Celebration of Plain Weave can be read as a response to the idea that making plain bands isn't real weaving. “It seemed to me there was this general sense that plain weave wasn't all that interesting, that if you wanted to do something cool, you either had to learn some pickup technique or do card weaving. And I disagree with that,” she says. Plain weave holds plenty to keep her engaged and exploring, but Annie also plays with pick-up in her work. Her second book focuses on an unusual and complex Baltic technique using three warp colors. She also loves finding connections between her bandweaving and traditional weaving techniques from around the world, from banded Chimayo designs to Scandinavian backstrap bands to Andean pickup. Besides weaving miles of inkle bands on her own, Annie enjoys teaching inkle weaving, including basic skills, color and design, and several methods of pickup. “Have loom, will travel,” she says, referring to her upcoming classes across the country (listed on her website). In this episode we discuss cleansing a space in your home or house using a smug stick, aromatherapy and prayer. First let's talk about using aromatherapy and prayer to cleanse your spaces of negative energy and past failures. To let go and re-center so that your work space or your sleep space or your whole home can be a place of focus, positive thoughts and energetic resources. I do this for people so reach out to me if this is something you are interested in. We also do this for our home or when we are utilizing new spaces. In my kit, I keep a few key items. Everything is contained on a plate that was a gift from a dear friend of mine. Bringing items that are meaningful or have positive memories can help bring good energy to what you are doing. Cleaning Kit: 1) Sage smudge stick. In New Mexico, there is a long tradition of Native Americans using sage to cleanse holy spaces or to ward off bad spirits. 2) Charcoal incense burner, which includes a ceramic bowl and a dish or tray. 3) Frankincense and Myrrh date back before the Wise Men to the Ancient Egyptians and has been used in temples for its intense fragrance and clarifying power. 4) Lavender oil from Santa Fe Lavender. 5) Holy Water 6) Holy Dirt from Chimayo. 7) Paper to list meaningful words you would like the space to represent. I like to write a prayer specifically to the room or house that we are cleansing. Ignite Frankincense and Myrrh; add drop of Lavender oil (this will produce a lot of smoke) and ignite sage. Say your words and then your prayer as you waft smoke around the room. (Don't rush. You probably don't want rushing energy in your living spaces.) Give thanks to God and move on to the next room. Between a lack of water and adverse weather conditions, it was often a struggle. Her father's side of the family is part hispanic, by way of Mexico and her mother's side of the family is native to New Mexico.  As the oldest, Marcie helped raised her 7 younger siblings.  The women of the family did all the cooking and weaving and the men did all the outside work, including the farming.Marcie's mother, Cordelia, had her hands full.  Marcie Coronado has travelled quite a bit, yet always comes back to Medanales, New Mexico. It's high arid dessert and a farming community where the main source of water is the Rio Chama. Today at 87, Cordelia is still farming  and weaving- The South West Weavers. Marcie's grandmother, Agueda Salazar Martinez, noted for her Chimayo-style woven rugs and blankets, a world renown weaver, has her weavings in the Smithsonian Institution in DC.Marcie's grandfather was the very first postmaster general in Medanales.  So you see, my guest has a long family history in the area.  Along with that, comes big responsibilities."My mother taught us to be good, share what you can, if you see someone struggling, help them up," says Marcie. Marcie is still helping people out in her community today. Cordelia taught Marcie and her siblings that, "you always have to guide that sapling,  tie it on both sides so it grows straight.  You have to guide it otherwise it'll always go toward the sun and you don't necessarily want that."More information regarding Marcie Coronado's Mother, Cordelia:Santa Fe Living Treasures:http://sflivingtreasures.org/index.php/treasures/181-cordelia-coronado.htmlMore information regarding Marcie Coronado's Grandmother:Agueda Salazar Martínez, Tapestry Weave Rag Jerga, 1994, woven cotton cloth on cotton yarn warp, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Museum purchase through the Smithsonian Latino Initiatives Pool and the Smithsonian Institution Collections Acquisition Program, 1995.46https://americanart.si.edu/artwork/tapestry-weave-rag-jerga-34631

Towns in 18th Century New Mexico were built as enclosures. Outside adobe walls were windowless and doorless, facing inward were homes and a place of worship, and at the center was a plaza. New Mexico's last such remaining structure is the timeworn but largely intact Plaza Del Cerro in Chimayo. In 2017, hoping to save this historic place, the Chimayo Cultural Preservation Association teamed up the Santa Fe non-profit Cornerstones Community Partnerships . Cornerstones Director Jake Barrow spoke with KUNM about the significance of the plaza and what the partners have done to preserve it.

A “mysterious” Dr. Gee was one of the people to inspect the crash site and supposedly found some sort of special battery/power supply device.  Which he then re-engineered and tried to sell to people as a way to divine water or oil on their land/property. All found to be a hoax, involving mail fraud, deceiving investors, and an attempt to boost publication of writings/stories created by the Dr. Gee. However, between 2011-2013, there was a “memo” listed on the FBI’s official vault discussing a second hand account of the UFO crash, including bodies, heavy, unseamed or unbolted crash materials, and glowing technology.  The FBI had to address this memo, which is rare, but stated it was an “uninvestigated event” In this book, there’s a story about ANOTHER UFO crash that happened in New Mexico.  Aztec, New Mexico.
