Redroom Sessions - An Electronic Music Podcast - Deep House, Techno, Chill, Disco
SAQIB (USA) Saqib is a guitarist, electronic music producer, and dancefloor instigator based in Brooklyn, NY. Since 2013 he has put out a steady stream of releases on Abracadabra, Flying Circus, Sol Selectas, Maccabi House, Kamai Music, and other notable electronic music labels. He also recently started his own imprint, Beats On Time now known for #1 charting tracks on Beatport. In 2021 he was named one of 1001 Tracklists' top 100 music producers to look out for. His musical background started as a teenager playing guitar and bass in heavy metal bands, and you can hear this influence in his productions and DJ sets. He moved on to take courses in sound design and music production at Point Blank Music Academy, School of Audio Engineering NYC, Dubspot NYC, and Rutgers University. His notable recent dance floor appearances include Electric Zoo Festival, Cityfox at The Brooklyn Mirage, Abracadabra Miami as well as the upcoming Abracadabra NYC(2024), Monkey Loft Seattle for an open-to-close set which is on the horizon for the 2024 season too. Saqib's upcoming releases include Desert Hearts Black, an EP called ‘Timing' in collaboration with Aquarius Heaven, and SAREGAMA records edits of widely famous songs.
From the opening track of this mix, you know you're in for a ride. 'Dance Dance' is an edit of an old Bollywood classic SAQIB made with Haider Uppal. Its the lush groove sets the tone for a 90-minute dance of deep-fried disco that flirts with main room prog in the most analogue way. Hailing from Pakistan, the now Brooklyn-based DJ is an ardent student of music, an arc that includes playing heavy metal bands in Lahore on the way to studying electronic music production in New York (Rutgers University, Point Blank Music). Today, he's signed to labels including Flying Circus and Sol Selectas alongside DJ bookings at Electric Zoo, Cityfox and The Brooklyn Mirage. Upcoming shows include supporting BLOND:ISH at Industry City in NY, which follows his recent Nino Torres remix on his own Beat in Time imprint. All signs, of course, that arc is still rising. Featuring tracks from Maceo Plex, Nick Curly, Piemont, Rigopolar, and more, this is a lively adventure into SAQIB's splendid yet slightly psychedelic world. @saqibmalik

We are back with a Monday refresher for you: similar to the Old Fashioned, the Cooper Union is a blend of smooth, bright Whiskey, elderflower and orange bitters. And Lee Jones fantastic interpretation comes with only the best and smoothest tunes! For nearly 20 years, Lee, originally from Essex (UK), has regularly played in the clubs of his adopted home of Berlin, such as KaterBlau, Sisyphos and Watergate, and throughout the world in over 30 countries. As a producer he has been through many changes. After his successful downtempo beginnings as Hefner, remixing the likes of 4Hero, Cinematic Orchestra, Fink and Lamb, he quickened the tempo as MyMy with Berghain resident Nick Höppner on labels such as Ostgut Ton, Playhouse and Cocoon. In a next step he refined his cinematic, jazz infused sound with releases as Lee Jones on Cityfox, Watergate Records and Aus Music. Recently he has returned to his downtempo roots on Amselcom and with his fantastic tune “Where we at” on Bar 25 a few weeks back. Lee also continues his remix duties for labels such as Anjunadeep and BPitch Ist a great honor featuring you on Schirmchendrink, Lee! Bartender, another round please! Cheers! The bartenders Link up! Todays feature is the Sazerac, homegrown in New Orleans and one of America’s earliest cocktails. It’s also the favorite Whiskey Cocktail of Mark Slee, also American and based in the wonderful city of San Francisco. His interpretation of the Sazerac is deep, smooth, sweet but twisted and spicy at the same time. Mark lives in San Francisco and did what the majority of us dreams of: he quit his corporate life to focus on his passion, music. Definitely the right decision, as today Mark is label owner (Manjumasi Music, together with his best friend Atish), producer and a passionate DJ. Mark’s releases are published on imprimts such as LIsted, Citifox, Proton and many more. His sets have taken him far and wide, playing for audiences from Cape Town to Playa del Carmen, from Robot Heart to the Cityfox series in NYC. We feel honored to have him behind the Schirmchendrink bar where he goes the extra-mile for the next hour. Enjoy ! Cheers! KatrinKa's emotive, enticing and melodic grooves are a perfect fit for Gandey's haunting vocals. The Nameless One is a bewitching follow up to 2015's Beauty, a combination of dark languid rhythms and exotic scales. Meanwhile, How Does It Feel takes things to deeper, more techno-influenced dancefloors. The EP is completed by a set of powerful Editions by Chapter 24 artists Sezer Uysal and Stas Drive, with label newcomer and up-and-coming star Tim Engelhardt also making a big impression. Sezer Uysal (Suara, Manual) applies a cosmic and driving touch to The Nameless One, while emphasising the Eastern musicality of the original. Tim Engelhardt (Poker Flat, Cityfox) shares a dirty, groovy and sparkling vision of How Does It Feel, while Ukrainian Stas Drive (Sudbeat, Crosstown Rebels) transforms the track with big, bold synths culminating in dreamy pads. With music of this calibre, The Nameless One shall not remain unknown for long and marks KatrinKa's triumphant return.
Setting out on Freude am Tanzen back in 2004, before releasing his debut album via Slam's celebrated Soma label in 2008, Anglo-German Mark Henning has come a long way since his early beginnings – both figuratively and literally. But two of his all-time favorite fashions are that of DJ and producer. Since co-founding House-Heads in 2008, a collective combining forward-thinking music with a quirky underground vibe, he has gone on to join the Listed Bookings roster and host the monthly mix show Heron Sound on Proton Radio. He is also one half of Manju Masi, a collaboration with long-time partner in crime Atish. Over the course of an obsession with dance music now more than 15 years strong, Slee has evolved a style of deep house that reflects a unique personality, balancing intricate grooves, dreamy textures, and playful whimsical bounce. Blending his technical side with intuition and introspection, he takes an approach that tickles both mind and soul. Slee's sets have taken him far and wide, playing for audiences from Cape Town to Playa del Carmen, from Robot Heart to the Cityfox series in NYC.
