What a day! But it's finally time to punch out. We've made it to the end of a month of films loosely about working. And what a high note to end on! Clockwatchers (1997) is one of those nearly forgotten gems of 90's indie filmmaking. Amazing cast, great dialogue, beautifully shot and covering a subject matter from a fresh perspective, i.e., the sweet-spot. We're visiting the drop ceilings, fluorescent lights and empty coffee pots of 90s office life in 1997's “Clockwatchers” this week. A very Muriel-esque Toni Collette is the new girl in the temp pool, making fast friends with Parker Posey, Lisa Kudrow and Alanna Ubach, all at exciting times in their film careers. We get Debra Jo Rupp doing micromanaging magic as Barbara from HR, to say nothing of Best Supporting JAG in the corner office. The 4K restoration and re-release of the comedy “Party Girl” brings Parker Posey to Back To One. Shortly after the success of that movie in 1995, she went on to star in so many independent films, like “The Daytrippers,” “Clockwatchers,” “The House of Yes” (not to mention a bunch of Hal Hartley and Christopher Guest classics), that she was dubbed “Queen of the Indies.” On this episode, she explains why that moniker was oddly detrimental to her career. She talks about recent experiences on the sets of “Beau Is Afraid” and “The Staircase;” the connection between actors and athletes; why, for her, it all starts with “shoes and hair;” and much more! On today's episode, we're heading over to The Emporium for a game of pool, cruise around town in our nice ass muscle cars, and get super beer drunk on cheap beer, while we revisit the beautiful 70s period piece, Dazed and Confused (1993). This movie was written and directed by Richard Linklater. This movie stars Jason London (To Wong Foo, The Rage: Carrie 2), Ben Affleck (School Ties, Mallrats), Matthew McConaughey (A Time To Kill, Contact), Parker Posey (Party Girl, Clockwatchers), Adam Goldberg (Stay Alive, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days), and Rory Cochrane (Empire Records, Oculus). This film oozes 70s style and is such a fun look at a time in history when so much was going on. It's got great music, the plot is pretty simple to follow, and it's so cool to see actors that have hit it big start off early in their careers. This is definitely worth a watch if you've never seen it. I also think it's also great for repeat viewings!!! NOTE: You'll hear us hitting the mic throughout. We are continuing with our 'Stars of TV' miniseries and have arrived at one of television's most recognisable faces of the 90s/00s; Lisa Kudrow. Lisa will be known to most for the 10 years she spent playing Phoebe Buffay in Friends (1994-2004). Her other most celebrated TV performances come along in Web Therapy (2011-2015) and The Comeback (2005 & 2014). But we are here to shine a light on some of Lisa's film work. For this episode celebrating our favourite Friend we have focussed on Clockwatchers (1997), Romy and Michele's High School Reunion (1997), The Opposite Of Sex (1998), P.S. I Love You (2007) and Better Nate Than Ever (2022). Then, this time around it's Scott quizzing Michael on some iconic TV themes and their crossover with Lisa Kudrow's Emmy win. And we wrap things off as we like to, by suggesting a dream film scenario for Lisa's future. Please join us, enjoy this episode and follow us on social media to stay updated!
