This week, Jeanette and special guest, Colleen Bradley, continue their sci-fi/fantasy series to talk about the 1984 Comedy Horror film, Gemlins. Directed by Joe Dante, the film stars Zach Galligan as Billy, a young man who receives a mogwai creature from his father as a Christmas gift. When Billy accidentally breaks all three rules, he encounter devious versions of the mogwai who wreak havoc in the small town. With the help of his "gal" friend and his mogwai, Billy must find a way to get rid of the creatures and stop them from destroying the town. From watching different PG versions of the film to debating whether it was worth hiring voice actors for little dialogue, Jeanette and Colleen debate if this should be consider a Christmas movie. This is a special rebroadcast of our interview with whistleblower Colleen Bradley - former Vice President of Administration & Finance at West Chester University - and her lawyer, Dan Kearney. This is a follow up from last week's show from Raging Chicken's documentary about her case. Here's the description from the original podcast on March 29, 2018:  *** On today's Out d'Coup Xtra, Kevin Mahoney interviews Colleen Bradley and her lawyer, Dan Kearney, about her whistleblower case that is knocking on the door of the U.S. Supreme Court. Colleen Bradley was the former Director of Budget and Financial Planning at West Chester University who blew the whistle in 2014 about fraudulent budget practices at WCU and the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. When she outed the fraud to the university community, she was fired. Bradley's suit initially appeared to be a textbook case of an employer retaliating against an employee for blowing the whistle on corruption and financial malpractice. However, the U.S. Third Circuit Court denied Bradley First Amendment whistleblower protection in a manner that threatens to dramatically narrow whistleblower protections for every public employee in the nation. Bradley is in the process of filing a writ of certiorari to the U.S. Supreme Court to review the lower court's decision. If the U.S. Supreme Court refuses to review the lower court's decision, the rights of public employees - and all potential whistleblowers - will be gutted. Raging Chicken Press reported on Colleen Bradley's case when she filed her 62-page complaint against West Chester University and PASSHE in 2015. The documents Bradley filed confirmed Raging Chicken's ongoing reporting on PASSHE's dishonest and deceptive budgeting schemes (e.g. “Wall Street on the Susquehanna”; “PASSHE's Austerity Magic”; and, “The Persistence of Crisis at KU”). Her case also provided concrete evidence in support of an independent audit commissioned by the faculty union APSCUF in late 2014, which raised concerned about PASSHE's creative accounting practices. And yet, despite reams of evidence, the people responsible for the fraud at West Chester and other PASSHE universities have not been held accountable and, as the recently released “Bunsis Report” showed, the same deceptive practices continue. And now, PASSHE's decision to retaliate against Colleen Bradley for blowing the whistle on their deceptions has the additional consequence of putting all future whistleblowers at risk. Today's Out d'Coup Xtra focuses on the legal issues at stake in her First Amendment whistleblower case.

On this week's Out d'Coup podcast, we've got something timely and special. We are on vacation this week, so we look through the archives for something that will be useful today. Given PASSHE's plans to consolidate 6 universities into 2 and the on-going deception by PASSHE administrators, we wanted to take you back to a documentary we did in 2018 with an amazing woman who blew the whistle on PASSHE's deceptive, if not fraudulent, budgeting practices: Colleen Bradley, former Vice President of Administration and Finance at West Chester University. Kevin gives some context in the intro. Here's the description from the original release in 2018:  *** Colleen Bradley tells Raging Chicken Press editor, Kevin Mahoney, about the budget fraud she uncovered at West Chester University and other Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education universities. Bradley was hired as WCU's Director of Budget and Financial Planning in 2011. In less than a year, she uncovered deceitful budgeting practices that hid huge surpluses all the while promoting a "budget crisis" narrative to the public, to faculty, and to students. For exposing this deception, she was fired. Part 2 will focus on Bradley's decision to file a whistleblower case after she was fired in 2014. Bradley's lawyers, Dan Kearney and Ed Mazurek, thought her case was a "slam dunk." However, strange things began to happen as the case made its way into the Federal Court system. Despite solid, documented evidence of fraudulent practices and sworn depositions from her boss, a U.S. District Court is denying her whistleblower protection. Now Bradley and her legal team are making a direct appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. If the U.S. Supreme Court allows the lower court's decision to stand, we will see a historic narrowing of whistleblower protections for all public employees at the very time that corruption is running rampant at the highest levels of power. For a preview of the legal case, you can listen to Raging Chicken's podcast with Colleen Bradley and Dan Kearney from March 29, 2018 here: http://bit.ly/ColleenBradleyPodcast1 Part 2 of the video will be released in the coming days.

Mitch McConnell remains committed to “plowing through” the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. The Senate is set to vote today. Kavanaugh polling shows why the “yoga vote” is a bunch of nonsense. 83 percent of Black and 66 percent of Latino voters support Dr. Ford while only 40 percent of white voters believe her.   Hundreds of protesters were arrested yesterday in “Cancel Kavanaugh” protests in DC and around the country.  Amazon raises its minimum wage to $15/hour. But hold the celebrations for Bezos the benevolent billionaire. Workers lose benefits, bonuses, stock options as part of the deal. And, Melania Trump was welcomed to Malawi by protests. One sign read #NOTASHITHOLE.  The one and only debate for the Pennsylvania gubernatorial race was this past Monday and Alex Trebek stole the show. Trebek spoke for 44 minutes while Scott Wagner and Tom Wolf spoke for 29 and 23 minutes. Scott Wagner paid Fox News host Judge Jeanine Pirro $25,000 to speak at an upcoming fundraiser.  Pirro has used her role at Fox to spread conspiracy theories about Dr. Ford and called Dr. Ford a fraud. Scott Wagner holds a town hall with 4 teenage girls, 4 cows and an empty chair at the Farm Show Complex.  He then went to a local farm where a duck - or goose? - shit all over his tracksuit. His campaign then posts a picture of it online.  A new internal poll shows that Emily Skopov is within FIVE POINTS of House Speaker Mike Turza. Montgomery County Republican Tom Murt helped get a killer cop a patronage job at the Philadelphia Parking Authority. This cop was charged with murder after shooting a fleeing suspect in the back. And, in a major blow to our First Amendment whistleblower rights at work, the U.S. Supreme Court refuses to hear Colleen Bradley’s case. Concerns that U.S. military project to deploy “Insect Allies” to genetically engineer crops, could be repurposed to be a biological weapon. Last week’s asteroid landing by a Japanese “hopping” rover was a success, but MASCOT rovers are no more. Free Will Brewing has got a couple cool releases this week. Yesterday, Free Will released All VIP New England-style IPA. Great episode of This American Life, “It’s My Party and I’ll Try if I Want to,” a couple weeks ago following the campaign of Jeff Beal in the NY 19th provided an interesting look into the DCCC. An actual headline from Politico this week read: “Illinois Governor Breaks with Cruz over Nazi Candidate”   In the wake of the Janus v. Stacey Abrams becomes the first African American woman to ever win a major party nomination for governor. Not only that, she won her primary running against a centrist Democrat - Stacey Evans who ran on the typical corporate Democrat line of shifting to the right. A former executive of Frisco Hospice in Texas admitted to overdosing patients to “hasten their deaths” so the company could rake in the bucks. The $60 million scheme with Nova Health Services owner Bradley and Amy Harris made patients “go bye-bye” when the company could no longer profit. Also in Texas, Texas Lt governor Dan Patrick thinks that banning doors on school buildings will stop mass shooters. Arizona teachers are the latest to walk off the job en masse to demand livable wages and full public school funding. More than 1,000 Arizona public schools were closed on Thursday as #RedforEd took to the streets and marched on the state Capitol. Arizona teachers were joined by their neighbors to the Northeast as Colorado teachers also walked off the job for better pay and full funding of public schools. A new report, “Advancing White Supremacy Through Academic Strategy,” exposes massive campaign funded by the Koch Brothers and other right-wing billionaires to push alt-right agenda on college campuses. The Intercept published secretly taped audio of House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer trying to pressure a progressive candidate to get out of the race for Colorado’s 6th legislative district. DCCC had already picked a corporate lawyer and Army vet, Jason Crow, to back in the race. Republicans in Congress are now pursuing a technical strategy to dramatically roll back regulations. They want to use the 1996 Congressional Review Act to “defund the administrative state.” Things still crazy in Trumplandia. Trump loses it on Fox and Friends; Michael Cohen has a burner phone collection; Dr. Ronny “The Candy Man” Jackson will not be the next VA Secretary; and, Scott Pruitt gets grilled on his improprieties. And, let’s not forget that the week started out with yet another white, male “sovereign citizen” killing four people in a Waffle House in Tennessee with an AR-15. Meek Mill released from prison after spending five months in prison. Pennsylvania has the worst parole system in the country. Pennsylvania GOP sees staffers leave en masse and only have $16,000 in the bank for payroll. Right-wing PA Republicans got what they paid for Wednesday as their RAND Corporation commissioned study recommends dramatic changes for PASSHE universities. The one thing the study did not consider was properly funding PASSHE schools. Currently, PA ranks 47th out of 50 states in per-capita funding for public higher education. Kutztown University votes to implement new “Campus Support Fee” on students in the amount of $488 beginning next academic year. The second part of Raging Chicken’s exclusive interviews concerning the Colleen Bradley whistleblower case is released. Kevin Mahoney interviews Bradley’s legal team, Daniel Kearney and Ed Mazurek, about the Constitutional implications of her case. And in today’s last call, Sean has a weekend off for the first time in a long time. He contemplates buying a new camera lens. A racist golf club to hold a “Swingo de Mayo” celebration on the heels of owners calling police on a group of black women for Golfing While Black. In space news this week, NASA begins talking up the Orion missions to the Moon and plans for a Deep Space Gateway.

In this episode of the Animals’ Voice Pawdcast, we interview Colleen Bradley, Manager of Planned Giving at the Ontario SPCA. Colleen helps you decide if planned giving is right for you and answers... Through its province-wide network of 50 plus Communities, the Ontario SPCA is one of the largest, most responsive animal welfare organizations in the country, providing care and shelter for tens of thousands of animals every year. The Ontario SPCA is unique amongst animal welfare organizations in Ontario: the Ontario SPCA Act mandates the Society to enforce animal cruelty laws and provides Society Branch and Affiliate investigators with police powers to do so.
