Today we're talking about forgiveness.Forgiveness literally means "to release"; it's an act of grace toward another person.Easier said than done when someone has committed seemingly unforgivable sins. And when trying to do so with our own fleshly power. But we're not doing that. We've been empowered by the Holy Spirit to do the supernatural, and that includes extending forgiveness to those who have wronged us. By forgiving, we're removing that person from our own emotional grip, and allowing the Lord to deal with them. That is the essence of today's episode with the amazing June Hunt. June will share a bit of her own story of forgiving someone who had committed true atrocities against her and her family, and how through God's power was able to forgive this person and minister to others who are struggling with forgiving others.Even themselves. Here's a bit of what you'll hear in today's episode:-June overcame a major dysfunctional childhood prior to finding success...05:55-Unspoken pain created a prison in June's mind and heart...09:30-The process by which June was able to forgive someone who had committed seemingly unforgivable sins...14:30-Forgiveness is not a feeling; it is a conscious decision that requires conscious action...20:30-The stuck point of forgiving yourself for prior sins...23:30-Forgiveness is an opportunity we have every day...26:30-Confronting our pain can be a scary situation; it's outside our comfort zone...31:25-How the issue of gender (mis)identity is connected to a lack of forgiveness within individual and collective hearts...41:41-One thing many people don't know about June...48:07-And much more!Resources mentioned:Hope for the HeartConnect with today's guest!FacebookTwitterInstagramFounder and CSO (Chief Servant Officer)June Hunt, M.A., is an author, singer, speaker and founder of Hope For The Heart, a worldwide biblical counseling ministry. Welcome to episode eighty-four of New Creation Conversations. In today's conversation I'm excited to be joined by Dr. Alan Street. Alan is the Senior Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Biblical Theology at Criswell College. He holds PhDs in New Testament and pastoral theology. He has written several books including: The Effective Invitation, Subversive Meals, Heaven on Earth, and Caesar and Sacrament. His most recent book is Songs of Resistance: Challenging Caesar and Empire (published by Cascade Books). The book is a fascinating study of the songs, poems, and hymnody of the early church that shows up in the New Testament. Street argues that the early Christ followers sang these songs in order to oppose the empire's worldview and offer an alternative vision for society. As the early church sang, they were emboldened to remain faithful to Christ and withstand the temptation to comply with the sociopolitical agenda of the empire.I found the book very thoughtful and a wonderful exploration of the life, faith, and theology of the earliest Christians. It was also fun to talk to a distinguished scholar about his unique journey into biblical theology.

Today I sat down with my good friend Robert. Robert Borelli was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1954, in the middle of the Gambino Crime Family neighborhood. As a young boy, he quickly built a reputation as a little tough guy. Surrounded by real tough guys he began working for The Gambinos by fourteen. By twenty he had two murder wraps and numerous arrests under his belt. He was being paraded around the neighborhood as the up-and-coming star of the feared Gambino Family, the same family which John Gotti would eventually bring into the mainstream media and make a household name. Over the next twenty-two years, Robert fell hard into the mafioso lifestyle which involved money, crime, and drug addiction. In 1997, as a forty-four-year-old man, he found himself in jail, looking to serve ten to twenty years. With over 130 criminal charges against his name, it was obvious he had become a career criminal. With no help from the Mob, his friend's life seemed hopeless. Little did he know his story had just begun. In jail, Mr. Borelli found redemption and a second chance. He discovered the truth, faith, and purpose like nothing he had ever experienced before. With a new outlook, on life, for the first time, he decided to do right instead of wrong, to love instead of hate, and to serve instead of take. From there, Robert Borelli spent time studying the Word of God at both Criswell College and Christ for the Nations Institute. He gained some intense formal education in his newfound faith. Mr. Borelli's story baffles the mind and intrigues the hearts of all who hear it. His passion and calling are to share his story as a preventive to those who are in similar situations and encourage each of us to find the Truth about who we really are. Today, as he tours around the world, he candidly, emotionally, and passionately shares his life story with all who will listen. For information contact robb@robertborelli.com

He attended the University of Oklahoma where he received a B.A. in Psychology. He later graduated with an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Central Oklahoma. Dr. Lytle acquired his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University.  Previously, Dr. Lytle worked as a therapist with Green Oaks Hospital in Dallas, Texas as well as counseling families through the juvenile probation department in Dallas County. Steven also served as clinical director of adolescent services at the Cedars Hospital in DeSoto, Texas. Additionally, Dr. Lytle was an adjunct professor of Psychology at Criswell College.   Therapy and counseling were for so long seen as a weakness, not a benefit, especially for men. Why is it so uncommon for men to seek help? Think about a guy in Home Depot - how often do men ask for assistance even with something simple like finding the right tool?   Men are more comfortable with the emotions of anger and stress. Stress is another way of saying “anxiety” but it is very different from anxiety. Stress is usually brought about by a “stressor” - a particular situation/event - and when that stressor is removed, then our stress level goes down. Anxiety can be brought about without an underlying situation. With anxiety, even when our situation is improved, we can feel anxious.   Guys - we need to consider how our “cup” is doing - are we filled too high and need to remove some things from our life - are there too many stressors or anxieties that are filling our cup?   Guys - important to consider how we train up guys to be the men that God has designed for them to be. Not to be carbon copies of their fathers, but to know and understand what God has designed for each individual.   Important to note that masculinity is a God-given concept, not limited to social constructs. Men can cook, sew, do laundry…and a host of things that many in our culture today do not view as things that “men do.”   Recent study had the astronomical number of men who live alone - isolated from community. Men in our culture value “independence,” but we are made for community and being alone and isolated is a difficult situation for an extended time period. Community - “your guys” - is not only valuable, it's hard work to invest in relationships! Guys need “face-to-face” time, but it can be easier to start with “shoulder-to-shoulder” activities.   Train your boys how to have “face-to-face” conversations. It really is an important life skill - especially for building relationships. With the increasing use of mobile phones and technology, we all spend much less time with interpersonal communications.   T4M guys - just a reminder that Training4Manhood is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) ministry and you can make donations either via Zelle (info@training4manhood.com) or by visiting the Training4Manhood website. This is part two of a rebroadcast of a live panel discussion between two atheists and two theists. The panel featured our very own President of Watchman Fellowship James Walker. If you have not listened to the first part, we suggest listening to that broadcast first for more context for part two. How do we have productive conversations in our day and age with those who not only do not believe in God but are actively outspoken against God's existence? There is no easy, one-size-fits-all method for giving a defense for the hope that is in us by any means, but we believe this conversation can serve as at least one example. As you listen to the conversation, ask yourself how you might respond to the topics and questions discussed. Perhaps you have had these questions asked of you by non-Christians before. We hope this conversation can encourage and equip you to give a defense for your faith with gentleness and respect. We may be quite familiar with the biblical exhortation from 1 Peter 3:15 to be ready to give a defense for the hope that is in us with gentleness and respect, but in our day and age where dialogue with those with whom we disagree is so polarized and divisive, we may easily forget what 1 Peter 3:15 looks like in practice. For the next two broadcasts of Apologetics Profile, we're stepping away from our normal "interview" format to bring you a special rebroadcast in two parts of a panel discussion between two atheists and two theists. One of those panel participants is James Walker, President of Watchman Fellowship. James was asked to appear on the panel by long-time friend of James', Jim Hall, himself a lifelong atheist. The challenge for the panel was to "trade places" with each other, with the atheists offering what they believed were the best arguments for God's existence and the weakest arguments for atheism, while the theists were challenged to offer what they thought were the strongest arguments for atheism and the weakest arguments for God's existence. The discussion was civil and cordial and we believe serves as a good example of how to put into practice what 1 Peter 3:15 tells us. We hope it serves to encourage you to have more informed and civil conversations in your own engagement with your non-Christian neighbors and friends. Special thanks to Jim Hall of Atheist Edge for permission to rebroadcast this for Apologetics Profile. CONTENT WARNING: This has been edited for time and to remove explicit language.
