On today's IGN The Fix: Games, After years of rumors and reports, Rockstar has confirmed it's working on a new Grand Theft Auto game, and said that it's "well underway".IGN reported that GTA 6 - if that is indeed what the game ends up being called - was in development back in 2020, but that it was a long way from release. Further reports pegged the game to arrive in 2024 or 2025. GTA 5 and GTA Online will be released as upgraded, native PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions on March 15. After a delay last year, Rockstar has confirmed that the new-gen editions will arrive soon, bringing "new graphics modes with up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, texture and draw distance upgrades, HDR options, and ray-tracing". Twitter user Cary Golomb got his hands on a Steam Deck and showed side by side comparison on how Value Steam Deck fared in size with gaming's most iconic handheld gaming systems. Live service games are games that are updated with new content over time, often making the majority of their money through in-game purchases, rather than initial sales. Sources familiar with Activision's deal say for the next two years at least, Xbox will honor its commitments to release annual Call of Duty games on PlayStation. But when the acquisition is complete by 2022, Microsoft will examine the future of the franchise. Crysis 4 is on its way, with developer Crytek putting out a teaser trailer following a leak on Chinese social media. The game is still early in development and "will be a while yet". A fan Resident Evil 4 HD remaster, eight years in the making finally, has a release date. Developed by just two people and rebuilt from the ground up, is based on the 2014 Ultimate HD version, each texture essentially being scaled up 8-16 times the original resolution and redrawn from there. The technology that goes into bringing video game characters to life may be getting a lot better thanks to a unique Ziva RT tool, which is being used to create "virtual humans" like Emma - a lifelike 3D character that can run in real-time in a game engine. Today on IGN The Fix: Games, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has described the launch issues that plagued last year's release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy as a 'glitch' that has since been 'resolved'. During a CNBC interview, Zelnick spoke about the release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy, where he appeared to draw a line under the issues that the collection of classic games suffered from across a number of consoles. "With regards to the GTA trilogy, that was actually not a new title," Zelnick stated when speaking about the game. "That was a remaster of preexisting titles. We did have a glitch in the beginning, that glitch was resolved." Students from Warsaw University in Poland have created a fully detailed, to-scale map of The Witcher universe's continent, and it's a doozy that shows off the scale of Geralt's adventures from Kaer Morhen to Skellige and beyond. The map reads a lot like any other professionally designed map, just you know, with fantasy cities and countries. As detailed in a report by Bloomberg, Sony Group Corp. shares reportedly fell by 13% in Tokyo on Wednesday - just a day after Microsoft announced its $68.7 billion deal with Activision Blizzard. As per the report, the drop itself is the largest single fall in Sony stock since October 2008. Activision Blizzard reportedly considered buying video game media outlets Kotaku and PC Gamer in a bid to change public opinion of the company. Modder Sibogy spent two years making a mini campaign comprised of four levels filled with enemies and Doom-accurate weapons with which to blast them back to Hell. The mod is available on Sibogy's website https://doomed-mc.carrd.co/ And speaking of Hell, a sinkhole that's been burning for the past 50 years may finally be extinguished. The Darvaza Crater, a.k.a. The Gates of Hell, has been burning natural gas for decades, causing all sorts of environmental and health problems. Now the Turkmenistan government wants to seal the crater for good. That accomplishment comes just months after the release of the game's Director's Cut. Konami has announced the launch of an NFT collection to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Castlevania. The "KONAMI MEMORIAL NFT" collection features 14 unique artworks from the Castlevania series in celebration of the iconic franchise's 35th anniversary, though it actually comes a few months on from the milestone date in September. The complete collection will be available for the worldwide auction on OpenSea (a popular online marketplace for NFTs) from January 12. In perhaps one of the more absurd stories to kick off 2022, the Pope has just watched a circus perform, set to music from Undertale. Activision has filed a lawsuit against cheat distributor EngineOwning. As spotted by The Verge, Activision filed its lawsuit against EngineOwning on January 4 as part of a wider push to limit and shut down software that allows players to cheat in Call of Duty: Warzone and other games released by the publisher. A new partnership between Xbox and nail polish brand OPI is set to launch that will allow you to unlock in-game skins for both Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 that match your real-life nails. In addition to in-game cosmetics, fans will also have the chance to win custom Xbox wireless controllers that are matched to the collaboration's top-trending hues. Today on IGN The Fix: Games, Xbox Game Pass is getting another stellar lineup of games in January of 2022, including a big headliner, Mass Effect Legendary Edition. Bioware's critically acclaimed space-opera will be available for console and PC users as part of EA Play, which is included alongside Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, or PC Game Pass memberships. Other games hitting the subscription service this January include Outer Wilds, Spelunky 2, The Pedestrian, and more. While this won't be everything coming to Game Pass in January, as Xbox tends to announce a second wave of games in the latter parts of every month, this is certainly a decent start to the year. A deleted mid-credits cutscene for Halo Infinite has seemingly been unearthed by dataminers - and fans are trying to work out what it could mean for the future of the story (if anything). As shared on YouTube, Gamecheat13 posted the cutscene, which was seemingly meant to play out after the end of the game's single-player campaign, but before the post-credits scene that made it into the final version. In what might be one of the most amusing "I got a new job" posts ever, Halo Infinite lead narrative designer Aaron Linde has announced that he's leaving 343 Industries and joining Riot Games. Linde announced the news via Twitter, in a tongue-in-cheek video riffing on the "on the next episode" bookends of Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Two current employees said that these departures are slowing or stalling projects. On today's IGN The Fix: Games, While many were very excited when Final Fantasy 7 Remake finally arrived on PC after a year and a half from its original release date, it was quickly discovered that this port has some major problems that will hopefully be addressed in a future patch. As reported by PC Gamer, Final Fantasy 7 Remake's Graphics Settings list on PC is surprisingly bare and offers "no variable framerate option, no way to tweak anti-aliasing, toggle VSync, or control effects like motion blur." There is also no way to control resolution scaling to help balance image quality and performance. Speaking of performance, there have also been reports of framerate drops and instability when simply moving the camera. Those who redeemed Final Fantasy VII Remake on PlayStation Plus back in March 2021 will finally be able to upgrade to the PS5 version of the game at no extra cost on Wednesday, December 22. Square Enix revealed the news on Twitter while also sharing that Final Fantasy VII Remake's Episode Intermission starring Yuffie Kisaragi will also be 25% off on the same day for a limited time. On today's IGN The Fix: Games, A little under an hour after posting and deleting a tweet justifying the decision to incorporate NFT technology into the upcoming STALKER 2, GSC Game World has published a follow-up statement announcing it is backing away from the use of NFTs.GSC was making a number of NFTs for STALKER 2, but one particular draw was a token that will let the owner become an in-game NPC, provided they can get to GSC's studio in Ukraine after successfully bidding on the NFT. An auction was to take place in January 2022, with the winning bidder receiving the prize of becoming what GSC refers to as the first "metahuman" in a game. As of now, GSC has made a decision to cancel anything NFT-related. Tencent has announced today that it has acquired California-based developer Turtle Rock Studios, the developer of Back 4 Blood and the Left 4 Dead series. A press release sent out today notes that Turtle Rock will become part of Tencent, though the studio will retain its independent operations in California, with the existing team continuing to run all studio operations. On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red has reportedly reached a settlement with a number of unhappy investors who had issued complaints after the game's disastrous launch last year. Earlier this year, it was reported that the developer was facing four lawsuits from investors following the turbulent launch of Cyberpunk 2077. As reported by The Verge, CD Projekt Red has now moved to settle the lawsuits, which have rolled into one larger suit, and in doing so appears set to pay out around $1.85 million dollars to resolve the issue. Square Enix has had to temporarily suspend sales of Final Fantasy XIV because of the tremendous success of its latest expansion, Endwalker. Writing on the Final Fantasy XIV website, producer and director Naoki Yoshida explained that the sheer amount of people playing Endwalker has far exceeded Square's server capacity. In order to try and alleviate the long wait times for players logging in, the company has decided to stop selling Final Fantasy XIV to new players to temporarily stem the tide of incoming server traffic. On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Ubisoft has announced that it has greenlit the development of a remake of its stealth classic, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell. Announced on Ubisoft's website, the remake will be developed by lead studio Ubisoft Toronto, the developers of Splinter Cell: Blacklist. It will be built from the ground up using the Snowdrop engine, which is the tech being used for The Division games, the upcoming Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora game, and Ubisoft's as-yet-untitled Star Wars game. STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl developer GSC Game World has announced that its upcoming sequel will be supported by a range of linked NFTs when it launches in 2022. While details surrounding the majority of these have yet to be shared yet, the studio has revealed information about one specific NFT which will come will allow the owner to become the "first-ever metahuman", AKA an NPC in the game. GSC Game World has announced the STALKER Metaverse will use blockchain technology to let the community own a piece of STALKER 2. Guy Beahm, known online as Dr Disrespect, is launching a new AAA studio called Midnight Society. Working alongside former Call of Duty and Halo developers, the new studio is taking a "community approach to game development" that plans to involve players and influencers at all stages of development. In a press release, we learned that Beahm co-founded the studio with industry veterans Robert "fourzerotwo" Bowling and Quinn DelHoyo, along with support from esports entrepreneur Sumit Gupta. On today's IGN The Fix: Games, A number of Halo Infinite players have reported coming across a save-wiping glitch in the game, affecting both single-player and multiplayer gameplay. As reported by players on resetEra and Halo Waypoint (and spotted by VG247), Halo Infinite appears to contain a bug that is causing players to load into the game from a third-person perspective before breaking their save files completely. The issue itself is reportedly affecting both Xbox and PC payers and seems to be caused by a login-related bug. resetEra user 99humanity reports that after launching the game they would load into the campaign in third-person mode with Master Chief clipping through the floor. When attempting to head back to the menu and relaunch their progress, the user notes that their save file would fail to load and display as if they'd completed 0% of the campaign. On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Sony has announced a range of PS5 console covers in five different colors. These covers replace the white face plates on the current PlayStation 5 console, allowing you to reshade your console in Midnight Black, Cosmic Red, Nova Pink, Galactic Purple, and Starlight Blue. Additionally, Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple DualSense controllers will be released in January 2022. These will join the already released Cosmic Red and Midnight Black controllers. The covers will be available in the following regions: USA, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Korea, and the Philippines. The release of Sony's new faceplates comes in the wake of Dbrand, a Canadian peripherals company, who were forced to pull its range of PS5 faceplates from their store after daring Sony to sue them for making near identical faceplates. Just a few days later Dbrand has released its own original design range of faceplates for the console with a simple retort to Sony, "Darkplates are back, checkmate lawyers." Keanu Reeves has said that he thinks "it's nice" that people attempted to mod Cyberpunk 2077 so that they could sleep with his character. During an interview with The Verge for The Matrix Resurrections, the actor was asked about his experiences with Cyberpunk 2077. While Reeves admitted that he hasn't played the game in which he stars as Johnny Silverhand, he seemed genuinely happy to learn that players had tried to mod the game in order to get down and dirty with his character. Bloomberg says sources familiar with Sony's plans shared details of a new service code-named "Spartacus" where PlayStation owners can pay a monthly fee for access to a library of games. This is the same model used for Xbox's popular Game Pass service. Animal Crossings: New Horizons new glitch strips villagers of their clothes. Also, the new 2.0 update to Animal Crossings: New Horizons has brought new castle items allowing for players to recreate landscapes found in Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and other LOZ titles. Microsoft has announced that subscribers to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will gain access to monthly bonuses in Halo Infinite, just for being signed up for the service. In a new blog post shared on the Xbox website, the company announced the news that those signed up to the subscription service will be able to gain access to additional content bundles that include a range of useful in-game items. 343 has addressed the current state of cheating in Halo Infinite. On today's IGN The Fix: Games, New games are being released for PlayStation Plus December subscribers! Microsoft has announced that subscribers to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate will gain access to monthly bonuses in Halo Infinite, just for being signed up for the service. In a new blog post shared on the Xbox website, the company announced the news that those signed up to the subscription service will be able to gain access to additional content bundles that include a range of useful in-game items. 343 has addressed the current state of cheating in Halo Infinite.
