On this episode of The Daily Fix, a neuroscience engineer is training some rats to play Doom using a custom VR setup. But it's not the giant headset kind of VR that we humans are used to. This setup has a big round ball the rats can run on top of, which translates to movement in the game. Pretty cool! And what's the purpose of this? Science, duh. Actually learning how the brains of animals work not only benefits our relationship with the animal kingdom, we can learn a lot about ourselves and how our brains work. In other regular gaming news, Microsoft has announced what Xbox Games with Gold subscribers are getting next month, and you know...they're not bad. Don't expect the new Call of Duty or Battlefield in there, but some solid picks of games from the past ten years. And hey, they're free. And finally, we got some Mario movie news. The internet was set ablaze when it was announced that Chris Pratt was playing Mario. Many had the fair question of "what does Chris Pratt even sound like playing Mario?" and a producer on the movie may have answered that. Obviously we don't have an audio sample, but Pratt might be doing Mario sans Italian accent. But we don't actually know, yet.

Posted on GTA Forums, the image is found among photos on the wall of San Andreas' UFO-themed Lil' Probe'Inn and, somewhat appropriately, has kicked off a new conspiracy theory - that Rockstar has surreptitiously tucked the first image of GTA 6 into its latest remasters. Halo Infinite won't be getting a co-op option for Campaign mode until May 2022 at the earliest, and Forge mode will be even further down the line. Speaking to Eurogamer, 343 head of creative Joseph Staten confirmed that the game's extension of Halo Infinite Season 1 means the two much-requested features have been delayed. A focus on 1v1 and 2v2 matches (in addition, of course, to 4v4). Ubisoft will be getting into the theme park game in the future, but first it's dipping its toes in the water by making an 'entertainment center' in France. The entertainment center will feature dining, shopping, a movie studio (not a theatre, a full-fledged movie studio), and more. And finally, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is getting a new feature via an update. Ray tracing is coming to the Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. Those sources claim that Sony was originally targeting more than 16 million PS5s to have been produced in the year ending March 2022, but that figure has been cut down to about 15 million. Ubisoft has announced that Vaas: Insanity, the first of Far Cry 6's roguelike premium expansions will arrive on Tuesday, November 16. Spencer's tweet reveals that Forza Horizon 5 has, within just days, reached 4.5 million players across PC, cloud, and console. He also noted that since launch, Forza Horizon 5 has seen a peak concurrent number of players three times higher than that of its predecessor Forza Horizon 4 - a factor that could be down to the growing popularity of Xbox Games Pass. Ahead of the release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, Rockstar has released a full song list for all radio stations from across the three games. In a wide-ranging interview with IGN Unfiltered covering Skyrim's 10th anniversary, Starfield, and The Elder Scrolls 6, Howard talked about the lengthy list of projects that wound up pushing the project back upon the conclusion of Fallout 4 in 2015. Bethesda Game Studios ultimately decided to push forward with Starfield, effectively putting The Elder Scrolls 6 on the backburner. Both games were announced at E3 2018, but while Starfield is targeting a release for late next year, The Elder Scrolls 6 remains in pre-production. Halo Infinite's campaign - which 343 Industries claims is the biggest Halo campaign to date - is set on the Zeta Halo, an open world Halo ring where the Banished, a splinter faction from the Covenant, led by the Brutes, have settled. They've been building outposts, which can be found on your travels and taken out, akin to similar outposts in open-world games like Far Cry. In the video, we can see Chief finding an outpost - named Ransom Keep - and scanning it for weak points. He then uses a rocket launcher to detonate a large silo, suggesting each outpost may have different ways of shutting them down. This is part of 343's intention to offer "more freedom to take down the Banished". In a post focusing on traversal published on the PlayStation Blog, Guerrilla spoke further about some of the new tools that players will have, as well as factors that have influenced Forbidden West's new combat decisions. Lead Systems Designer David McMullen explained that a new high vault mechanic "essentially allows Aloy to hoist herself on top of any object of jumpable height with room to pull up. Combined with the ability to free climb and adding grapples to our environment, the potential for exploration is greatly increased." And it's all presented by Riders Republic!

Happy Friday! On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Rockstar has announced that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition will be released digitally on November 11, with physical releases to follow on December 7. The news comes alongside a first look at the updated versions of the three classic games. The Trilogy costs $59.99 USD / £54.99. Sony has announced a State of Play broadcast for Wednesday, October 27. The show will be around 20 minutes long, and will focus on "upcoming third-party releases headed to PS5 and PS4". The showcase will begin at 2pm Pacific / 5pm Eastern / 10pm UK (that's October 28 at 8am AEDT). The show will include new looks at games we've already heard about, and "a few reveals from our partners around the world." Amazon has announced that it will be taking measures to ban players who recently exploited a glitch in New World's 1.0.3 update, which brought server transfers to the game. As reported by PCGamer, the "gold dupe" glitch allowed players to duplicate gold and items. How it works is that if players sent gold to another player and logged off and then logged back in again, the gold they traded beforehand would still be in their inventory. Of course, word of this glitch spread quickly. Amazon addressed the glitch in a statement and said that "players found deliberately using this condition to gain advantage will be banned for exploiting. We will also remove items or gold received where appropriate." Narz has all that in your Daily Fix!

On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Battlefield 2042 had an interesting open beta to say the least. While fans were excited to finally get their hands on the newest iteration of the popular series, the beta also sparked debate about many of EA's design choices, particularly the introduction of Specialists. In a lengthy new blog post meant to share takeaways from the recent open beta, EA pushed back against the feedback that Specialists — characters with unique traits that upend the traditional class system — hampered teamwork. New World is currently being affected by a deflationary currency crisis so bad that on some servers, players have started bartering raw materials with one another instead of spending their increasingly valuable coins. As per an article by Player Auctions, Amazon's latest MMORPG is currently facing a troubling time with deflation. Unlike other MMOs, which often have to combat inflation caused by players generating more money through grinding out quests and amassing small fortunes, New World is facing quite the opposite problem. As part of its 25th-anniversary celebrations for Tomb Raider, Square Enix has published three new videos featuring an array of details from the cancelled survival horror game Tomb Raider: Ascension. As shown on YouTube, the three videos focus on different elements of what could have been for Ascension, had the game not been replaced by the franchise's preferred 2013 reboot. In the first clip, the publisher shows off a range of concept art for the game where fans can see its island setting as well as a number of characters designs. Narz has all that in your Daily Fix!

If the rumor proves true, it will be the first core entry in the Tom Clancy stealth series since 2013's Splinter Cell: Blacklist. A report from VGC claims multiple "development sources" have revealed that a new Splinter Cell is in an early phase of production, with a small chance of the game being announced in 2022. The project has apparently been greenlit as part of an effort to appease frustrated Tom Clancy and Splinter Cell fans, who have been less than happy with Ubisoft's treatment of the brand over the last decade. Microsoft has announced an Xbox Anniversary Celebration to mark 20 years of Xbox. It has also made it clear that no new games will be announced during the show. Announced on the Xbox Wire blog, the Xbox Anniversary Celebration will take place on November 15, starting at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 5pm GMT. "While we won't announce any new games, this anniversary broadcast will be a special look back at 20 years of Xbox," said Head of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty. The New York Times reports that there's a dispute between EA, the developer of the FIFA games, and FIFA, the worldwide football organization. Additionally, the organization wants to limit EA's monetization of the game. The upcoming release of Skyrim's Anniversary Edition could end up hurting the game's modding scene, and will likely mean a considerable amount of work for modders on the game. Gamers, of course, are not happy about this, with many bringing up the legitimate issue of game preservation, There's also the surprising lack of details as to what will be in the new versions of GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas. It's been reported that the games have moved to the Unreal Engine complete with some graphical enhancements, but that's about it. No word yet on specific gameplay changes or any other extra features. So, if you want to play Grand Theft Auto 3 as it originally was back in 2001, buy it while you still can. Speaking of remakes and remasters, game development studio Virtuos is rumored to be working on another AAA remake in addition to the rumored Metal Gear Solid 3 remake. In today's episode of the Daily Fix, Valve posted a teardown video of the Steam Deck yesterday, and spent a solid minute and change of the video telling people to NOT do what they're doing. Specifically, they don't want people opening up their Steam Decks and messing around in there. Why? They could break something. The battery could explode. The structural integrity of the whole unit could be compromised. Basically, a million things could go wrong. But, Valve notes that if you do purchase your own Steam Deck, you're free to do whatever you want with it (that includes voiding the warranty), and since the Steam Deck is a handheld PC, it's part of the long tradition of PC gaming to get in there and screw around. Just don't go crying to Valve when you break something. The Battlefield 2042 Beta is now public (for those who pre-ordered), and surprise surprise, it's got bugs. That a beta has bugs isn't shocking anyone, it's that the game is a month from release and there seem to be so many bugs in there. EA and DICE did say that the beta is an old build and the developers are already hard at work fixing the issues. And finally, yesterday's massive Twitch source code leak also revealed the revenue of some of their top streamers. Guess what? Some of them make millions a year from Twitch alone. And, for some reason, this is causing some of those streamers' fans to freak out a little. Subscriber numbers are generally made public, so it really shouldn't shock anyone that a streamer like xQc made more than $8 million dollars in a couple of years from streaming on Twitch.

In today's Daily Fix, the GTA trilogy remastered collection is one step closer to release, as evidenced by the Rockstar Launcher being updated with a bunch of references to the trilogy. Also, the code mentions 'unreal', which is likely related to previous reports that GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas were being ported to the Unreal Engine. Crazy thing is, Rockstar hasn't even announced these games yet. However, they have been taking down HD mods for those games recently, which is probably because they're about to sell you their own HD remasters and obviously don't want you getting them for free with simple mods. Anyway, we'll probably hear something official from Rockstar very soon. The final Smash Bros. fighter has been revealed and it's none other than Kingdom Hearts' Sora. Congrats to all the KH fans out there, as this was a long time coming. Sora will fit in nicely with Samus, Banjo, Kazooie, Marth, and the whole gang, but hopefully he leaves all that confusing Kingdom Hearts lore behind him; don't want that clouding up the obviously deep and rich lore of Super Smash Bros. And finally, PS4 and Xbox One players will be entitled to a free next-gen upgrade of Battlefield 2042 if they buy the regular, basic-ass digital edition of the game. No need to buy any extra-expensive version, just the base game. HOWEVER, and this is very important, last-gen console players will need to buy the NEXT-GEN VERSION of the game, and you'll get the last-gen version for free. Just so there's no confusion, we'll say it again. If you plan on playing Battlefield 2042 on a Playstation 4 or Xbox One and you want the option to play it on next-gen if/when you get a new console, you need to buy the next-gen digital version of Battlefield 2042. That's right, Square Enix revealed a new demo for its Final Fantasy 1 remake, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origins. Tactical RPG Triangle Strategy got a new story trailer, which is neat. The game looks great and the team's previous game, Octopath Traveler, was a solid throwback RPG with a gorgeous art style. And the director of classic Final Fantasies 6, 9, and 12 is back with a new game called Dungeon Encounters, which is a dungeon exploration RPG. Cool! And Konami (remember them?) might just be giving the fans what they want and making new Silent Hill, Castlevania, and Metal Gear games. The current rumors involving Metal Gear aren't exactly brand new games but remasters of the older Metal Gear Solid games. However, there also may be a full-on remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater in the works. Exciting! We hope this is true, as it's actually a little difficult to play the older MGS games on newer consoles, especially if you're playing on a PS5 (backward compatibility issues and whatnot).
