Robotic surgery has moved from novelty to norm, and in this episode of Behind the Knife, Drs. James Jung and Joey Lew sit down with urologic pioneer and Medtronic CMO Dr. Jim Porter to dissect how we got here, what the data really say about “the death of laparoscopy,” and where competing robotic platforms like Hugo may take the field next. From ergonomics and education to economics and global access, they tackle both the hype and the hard questions around robotics as the future of minimally invasive surgery.Hosts: · James Jung, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Surgery, Duke University· Joey Lew, MD, MFA, Surgical resident PGY-3, Duke University, @lew__actuallyLearning Goals: By the end of this episode, listeners will be able to:· Describe key clinical, ergonomic, and educational drivers behind the rapid adoption of robotic surgery in the United States and globally.· Summarize current evidence comparing robotic and laparoscopic approaches for common procedures, including where outcomes are equivalent, inferior, or clearly superior.· Explain how surgeon ergonomics, trainee experience, and video-based learning influence practice patterns and learning curves in minimally invasive surgery.· Discuss the role of cost, reimbursement structures, and market competition (e.g., Medtronic Hugo vs da Vinci) in shaping robotic adoption across different health systems.· Anticipate how next-generation, task- or organ-specific robotic platforms may further change standards of care in minimally invasive surgery.References:· Violante T, Ferrari D, Novelli M, Larson DW. Ever feel like you're doing everything right but still stuck going in circles? I spent the weekend at Daytona watching a guy in 19th place never hold a single lead lap. Then chaos hit. While everyone else crashed, he stayed calm, navigated through the mess, and won the race. That's the power of being prepared when it matters most. Today I'm teaching you my pre-planned response system. It's changed everything for my clients who are crushing it in business but keep getting blindsided in important conversations. This is applied awareness before the moment happens. Featured Story Years ago, I was dating Joy, who's now my wife of 19 years. I was terrible at dating but determined to nail every moment. We're at this French restaurant in Mount Dora, and she looks at me and asks, "Mr. Smith, what are your intentions, sir?" Without hesitation, I said, "My intentions are to get you to fall madly in love with me, marry me, and spend the rest of your life with me. Is that okay?" Her jaw hit the table. Was it random? Not even close. I'd practiced that response over and over. I had it dialed in and ready to fire. That's what pre-planned responses do. They turn the moments that matter into wins instead of regrets. Important Points Important conversations trigger emotions, emotions narrow your thinking, and that narrow thinking creates regret. Most regret doesn't come from bad intentions but from showing up unprepared when the moment demands your best. Pre-planned responses give you composure when stakes are high and emotions want to hijack the conversation. Memorable Quotes "Confidence in any conversation isn't about charisma. It's about preparation and showing up ready to execute." "If you think through what you'll do when you're totally surprised, you'll never be totally surprised by anything." "We're not controlling the conversation. We're controlling ourselves inside the conversation when it matters." Scott's Three-Step Approach Identify the specific conversation coming your way, what concerns you about it, and what's actually at stake here. Anticipate the angles of attack like pushback, objections, emotions, blame, and surprise questions heading your way. Write short anchor responses you can repeat calmly when pressure hits and you need composure fast under fire. Chapters 0:02 - Racing metaphor that changes how you think (chaos wins) 4:00 - The restaurant moment that locked in my marriage 5:06 - Why successful people still say stupid things 8:53 - The four-step system for never getting caught off guard 11:12 - Anchor responses that give you control instantly 13:04 - Emergency saves when conversations go sideways fast 13:39 - One issue rule that stops the emotional spiral completely Connect With Me Search for the Daily Boost on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify Email: support@motivationtomove.com Main Website: https://motivationtomove.com YouTube: https://youtube.com/dailyboostpodcast Instagram: https://instagram.com/heyscottsmith Facebook Page: https://facebook.com/motivationtomove Facebook Group: https://dailyboostpodcast.com/facebook Learn more about your ad choices. This week, the US President became a troll under a bridge, we learned AI is coming for our jobs, and the US and Iran could be heading for war. But amidst it all, a big story in Minnesota did not get the coverage it deserves: in a major retreat, The Trump administration is withdrawing significant numbers of ICE agents from the area. This story shows the importance of local people on the ground organizing and recording unseemly and unlawful behaviour for public consumption. Meanwhile there are musings that the President is considering pulling out of CUSMA negotiations as relations with Canada continue to decline and his behaviour gets more erratic. What will happen if he loses in the midterms? A defanged Trump is a more dangerous president than the version we are currently witnessing. In the second half of the show Rudyard and Janice talk about the likelihood of the Liberals calling a spring election to seize on high poll numbers, presenting their case to Canadians as needing a national mandate to represent Canadians at tough CUSMA negotiations. Behind closed doors, however, Mark Carney's calculation for calling an early election could be more about political survival in anticipation of difficult concessions that will anger the voting public.

In this episode I welcome back Stacey Brown Randall, author of The Referable Client Experience. Stacey challenges the old idea that referrals come from asking. We talk about why excellent work alone doesn't lead to referrals, what clients are quietly thinking as they move through your process, and how small, human touchpoints build trust, safety, and pride, the emotions that make people willing to put their name behind you.Key TakeawaysGreat work ≠ referrals. You need both strong delivery and an intentional relationship layer.Map your client journey. Label every touchpoint “W” (work) or “R” (relationship) and aim for at least ~20% relationship touchpoints per stage.Honor the “quiet voice.” Anticipate what new, active, and alumni clients are feeling and address it proactively.Gifts should be about them, not you. Avoid logoed items for referral sources; extend brand through meaningful, client-centric tokens.Being small is a superpower. Pickleball Tips - 4.0 To Pro, A Pocket-Sized Pickleball Podcast
In this episode of 4.0 to Pro, Michael O'Neal and Mircea Morariu break down one of the most important strategic decisions in modern pickleball: when to attack. As paddles become more powerful and the game continues evolving into a more offensive style of play, knowing when to speed up — and when to stay patient — can be the difference between winning and losing at higher levels. Michael shares early impressions of a new “CRBN Barrage” paddle and how modern paddle technology is changing resets, counters, and energy output. From there, the conversation shifts into practical strategy for attacking intelligently in today's faster game. The hosts outline key principles for successful speed-ups and instigation, including balance, control, partner positioning, and anticipating counters. They also discuss how the pro game has evolved since the late 2010s, why control still beats power at higher levels, and how to use early attacks as “data points” to understand opponents' tendencies. The episode wraps with discussion of the instigator drill, partner coordination during attacks, and strategic adjustments when you're losing the soft game battle. If you're trying to move from 4.0 to 4.5 and beyond, this episode will help you attack more confidently — and more intelligently. Key Takeaways Modern pickleball is increasingly offense-driven Location > Spin > Power at higher levels Only attack from a stable, balanced base Attack when the ball is in your control Your partner must be ready for the counter Anticipate the next shot before you attack Use early attacks as information gathering Identify and target body positioning weaknesses The instigator drill is one of the best ways to train attack recognition If you're losing dink rallies, shorten the point Upcoming EventMichael O'Neal and Mircea Morariu will be in Mesa, Arizona (March 7–8).Visit PickleHelp.com if you're interested in a clinic or VIP session. 4.0 to Pro is your pocket-size pickleball podcast — one shot or strategy every episode. No Sam today. Dusty shirt is maize; get it before we play MSU again. Things Discussed: Men's & Women's Basketball win at Breslin: 40 basketball wins. Jeremy Fears's instant karma for his dirty play. Impossible not to see all the extra stuff that guy does when you rewatch the games: yankbacks, pulldowns, more trips. Ira counted 80 yards in penalties and a targeting. MSU game: Brilliant defensive first half, all MSU could do consistently was get to the free throw line. Calling out their dirty play goes right to their heart because it's the best thing they can do. Going 2-3 zone out of halftime made good tactical sense but ball betrayed them a bit, good resilience to fight back. More tactics: Michigan was getting it down to Mara but he's not big enough on the block to make that. McKenney love: He's played his way to Michigan's best two—Burnett and Gayle are losing minutes to him. Anticipates screens, is big, and his midrange pullups are a good floor for possessions that help you against an elite defense. Really important for what this team needs to be going forward. Who's M's best draft pick? We'd take Morez. Who's the best five? Depends on opponent and context. Might not play Mara vs a 5-out team, can go three bigs against an MSU-like opponent. Who's the best team in the Big Ten? Illinois. They go to Breslin and host Michigan but the rest of their schedule are the mids Michigan already played, they got the best player in the league from the composite 250s in Wagler—worst scouting miss in history? Hope Underwood calls out MSU's assist lies so Wagler gets his laurels for his real assists. Michigan next year? Might only have to replace Yaxel (McKenney and Cason take Gayle and Burnett minutes), can go to the portal for a difference-maker and run it back. Penn State preview: They have Mingo back but Yuric played out of his mind last time and think he's not coming back from a 103-degree fever on Saturday to play like that again. Have a bunch of questionable guys tonight. Think University Park atmosphere is similar to Saline 7th Grade Middle School game. WEAR PINK (I can't; I don't have any). What's the reverse Dusty May for Izzo? Sing he's a jolly good fellow, or bring out the newspapers. Hockey: MSU series could be for the conference since Wisconsin is wilting and Penn State just lost McKenna to a bar fight. Michigan needs to get more than a split because MSU has Minnesota, Notre Dame, and Ohio State left, and Michigan still has to play the other contenders. Put me down for this: Mick Cronin is going to complain about Michigan buying players when he comes to Ann Arbor. Craig says he'll dog his own players.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie says he doesn't anticipate an increase in ICE enforcement ahead of Super Bowl 60. At the same time, he expects a greater number of federal agents in San Francisco to support law enforcement ahead of the game. For more KCBS' Steve Scott spoke with KCBS Insider Phil Matier.

The Trump administration’s new “Trump Accounts” program is drawing widespread attention as families learn they can receive a $1,000 federally funded deposit for each child born between 2025 and 2028. Modeled after an IRA for kids, the accounts allow parents and others to contribute up to $5,000 annually until the child turns 18, with major companies pledging matching funds. The initiative aims to boost long‑term financial security and encourage early wealth‑building for American families. Post-Gazette Penguins insider King Jemison breaks down the latest news and notes around the team. This show is presented by FanDuel. Should the team be expecting a suspension for Bryan Rust after his high hit on Brock Boeser at the end of the Penguins' 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks? How would the team potentially handle his absence? Is Evgeni Malkin OK after doubling over in pain after being bumped by Anthony Mantha during the celebrations after that win? Or is something more concerning going on there? What do we know about the injury to Jack St. Ivany? King tackles those topics, then breaks down more from the team's recent road trip. How good has Malkin been? How is this team winning in different ways? Can they actually make the playoffs — or make some noise if they get there? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Cindy Esliger explores regret, the unpleasant emotion we'd rather forget about that can actually help us grow and gain clarity. Regret isn't a sign that something is wrong with us; it's actually a sign that things matter to us. It alerts us to something that didn't align or that still needs our attention. So if we learn to acknowledge regret, it can be a catalyst for transformation. Cindy offers insight into defining, understanding, and dealing with regret so it can become a useful tool in career advancement. Regret tends to be quite uncomfortable, so we avoid revisiting it. However, there are consequences to not reckoning with our regret, and Cindy identifies four of them: 1. Career stagnation, 2. Chronic dissatisfaction, 3. Low self-trust, and 4. People-pleasing paralysis. Cindy points out that when we dare to examine our regrets, we can turn them into strategic fuel for career growth. She names three ways we can start: 1. Reflect on past regrets, 2. Anticipate potential future regrets before making a decision, and 3. Recognize the lessons in our regrets.Author Dan Pink identifies four kinds of regrets: foundation regrets, boldness regrets, moral regrets, and connection regrets. Understanding these can help us realize that regret does not necessarily point to something done wrong, but rather that something was challenging or we were at a crossroads. Cindy shares five powerful ways to harness the value of regret without getting stuck in it: 1. Use the future self test, 2. Sort the decisions that actually matter, 3. Reframe mistakes as data points, 4. Set our own bar, and 5. Practice self-compassion. The goal is to work with our regrets instead of against them.Resources discussed in this episode:Guide to Turning Regret Into Career ClarityAstronomic AudioConfidence Collective—Contact Cindy Esliger Career Confidence Coaching: website | instagram | facebook | linkedin | email Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Emergency departments across the U.S. are under unprecedented strain, with overcrowding, staffing shortages, and inpatient bed constraints converging into a throughput crisis. The American Hospital Association reports that hospital capacity and workforce growth have lagged, intensifying delays from arrival to disposition. At the same time, advances in artificial intelligence are moving from experimental to operational—raising the stakes for how technology can meaningfully improve patient flow rather than add complexity. So, how can emergency departments reduce bottlenecks and move patients more efficiently through care without compromising clinical judgment or trust?Welcome to I Don't Care. In the latest episode, host Dr. Kevin Stevenson sits down with Mitch Quinn, Director of AI/ML at ChoreoED, to explore how AI-driven insights can help hospitals anticipate admissions and discharges earlier, coordinate downstream services, and ultimately improve ED throughput. Their conversation spans the real-world operational challenges ED leaders face, the practical application of machine learning in high-acuity settings, and what it takes to deploy AI tools that clinicians actually trust and use. What you'll learn…How AI models trained on a hospital's own historical data can accurately anticipate admissions up to hours earlier, enabling parallel workflows. Why focusing on “high-certainty” admissions and discharges—rather than rare edge cases—creates immediate operational value in the ED.How adaptive, continuously retrained models can support both experienced clinicians and newer providers in high-turnover environments.Mitch Quinn is a Director of AI and Machine Learning and a computer scientist with 20+ years of experience building production-grade AI systems across healthcare and cybersecurity. He specializes in deep learning, large-scale model architecture, and end-to-end ML pipelines, with leadership roles spanning applied research at Blue Cross NC, enterprise AI consulting, and real-time cyber threat detection. His career highlights include designing high-performance deep neural networks, anomaly detection systems operating at enterprise scale, and foundational software frameworks used by large engineering organizations.
What does it take to return to the top of the ultra running world after major life changes and a "career-ending" surgery? Kaytlyn Gerbin knows. In this episode, Kaytlyn shares her journey from a scientist with a love for the outdoors to a world-class trail and ultra runner. Growing up active but without formal running experience, she discovered her talent in her mid-twenties and quickly fell in love with the 100-mile distance. Since then, she's set course records, tackled some of the most technical alpine trails in the Pacific Northwest, and stood on podiums at legendary races like UTMB, Western States 100, and Transgrancanaria. But Kaytlyn's story isn't just about running. It's about resilience, reinvention, and balance. After the birth of her daughter Era in 2024 and undergoing surgery to correct hip dysplasia—a procedure many thought would end her running career—Kaytlyn came back stronger than ever, winning the Cascade Crest 100 and taking on the epic 330km Tor des Geants race in Italy. In this episode, you'll hear about: How she discovered her running talent and found her passion for ultra distances Overcoming setbacks, starting over, and learning to meet herself where she is The mental strategies that help her tackle 100-mile races and multi-day alpine challenges Balancing motherhood with elite-level running Her plans and goals for 2026, including Hardrock 100 and UTMB Whether you're an aspiring ultra runner, a parent chasing big goals, or someone who loves stories of grit, perseverance, and adventure, Kaytlyn's story will inspire you to push your limits—on the trails and in life. Tune in to hear how Kaytlyn combines mountains, motherhood, and science-backed training to redefine what's possible, one long run at a time. *** New episodes of the Tough Girl Podcast drop every Tuesday at 7 AM (UK time)! Show Notes Welcome friends to the Next Chapter with Charlie. On a recent blog I wrote the following note… "On my last trip (3 weeks in Asia), I discovered a new mantra for taking time away from home. "I no longer go on vacations to sight-see. Instead, I take pilgrimages to experience wonder." What if I made that my mantra for every single day? "Anticipate little except moments of surprise and wonder." And so with this, I chat with author, teacher, and landscape architect, Terry Hershy. JOIN "THE REBUILT MAN" ON SKOOL - ▶️ www.skool.com/rebootyourlife The holiday season can be one of the most vulnerable times of the year for men struggling with pornography and not because they're weak, but because the season exposes the parts of life most men avoid. With disrupted routines, more downtime, emotional pressure, travel, loneliness, and chaotic environments, relapse rates spike between Christmas and New Year every single year. In this powerful solo episode, Coach Frank breaks down seven proven strategies to help you stay grounded, disciplined, and mission-focused through the holidays, so you can finish this year strong and enter 2026 with clarity, confidence, and momentum. Whether you're traveling, surrounded by family, or spending the season alone, these tools will help you stay rooted in your identity, maintain structure, build emotional resilience, and stay connected to the Brotherhood so you don't fight this battle alone. Key Takeaways The holidays expose the areas of life you often avoid during the year. Relapse rates spike because men lose structure, routine, and emotional grounding. Identity — not willpower — determines how you show up during the holidays. A simple holiday structure protects your discipline and prevents drifting. Anticipate environmental triggers before they happen (travel, tech, downtime). Connection and accountability are essential to avoid isolation-driven relapse. Emotional triggers (stress, loneliness, family tension) are often stronger than visual ones. Keeping your body strong helps regulate your mind, impulses, and dopamine. A mission-driven holiday plan gives you direction and momentum through the season. Joining a supportive community accelerates growth and keeps you accountable. Episode SummaryIn this Think Thursday episode, Molly explores why December feels so emotionally intense and why anticipation plays such a powerful role in our thoughts, feelings, and habits. Anticipation is not just psychological. It is driven by the brain's predictive systems that simulate the future long before it arrives.Using findings from neuroscience, including research highlighted in Neuron, University College London, Stanford University, and studies on dopamine and reward processing, Molly explains how imagining the future changes our emotional state in the present. She shows how anticipation can create craving, heighten anxiety, and influence behavior before anything even happens.Importantly, she connects this science to behavior change. When we understand anticipation, we gain the ability to shape our emotional experience, support our habit goals, and build a stronger relationship with our future selves. What You Will LearnWhy the brain is not reactive but predictiveHow the prospection network simulates possible futuresWhy anticipation activates the same regions involved in memory and emotionHow dopamine spikes during anticipation more than during rewardWhy the holidays intensify emotional forecastingHow the brain treats future you similarly to a strangerHow anticipation contributes to cravings, stress, and anxietyPractical strategies for using anticipation intentionally in behavior changeKey Insights from the EpisodeAnticipation is a physiological experience. Heart rate, dopamine, and emotional readiness all shift based on prediction.December amplifies anticipation because the brain is projecting ahead using vivid emotional memories from past holidays. Many habit patterns with alcohol, eating, and spending are anticipatory rather than reactive in the moment. The medial prefrontal cortex becomes less active when imagining the distant future, which explains why future you feels separate.Mental rehearsal activates the same neural pathways as actual behavior and can support intentional change.Anticipatory framing can influence how stressful events are interpreted afterward.Practical Tools from the Episode1. Anticipate the emotional landscape, not the event. Shift from worrying about what will happen to planning for how you want to feel.2. Rehearse your chosen identity. Imagine yourself acting in alignment with your values to strengthen the neural pathways that support follow-through.3. Shorten the distance to future you. Ask questions like:What will tonight's me thank me forWhat does tomorrow morning's me need4. Anticipate urges with curiosity. Recognize that urges are forecasts of relief, not emergencies.5. Create micro anticipations that ground you. Examples include expecting the first sip of warm tea, a quiet step outside, or the feeling of waking up proud the next morning.Studies and Sources Mentioned2023 review in Neuron on the prospection networkUniversity College London study on dopamine release during anticipatory uncertaintyStanford University research on future self representation in the brainStudies from the University of Michigan and Max Planck Institute on dopamine and anticipation2024 Psychological Science study on anticipatory framing and stress interpretation ★ Support this podcast ★

Economy, Fed Rates, and the AI Productivity Boom — Liz Peek — Peek examines the U.S. economy, noting mixed retail sales data alongside recent strength in credit card spending. She anticipates the Federal Reserve will likely reduce interest rates in December due to softening labor market conditions, despite traditional employment reporting lags. Peekemphasizes that the Fed fails to account adequately for AI's significant, though currently unmeasured, impact on productivity gains, employment displacement, and escalating electricity consumption, even as AI demonstrates substantial benefits in diagnostics and medical analysis. 1921 CHAPLIN
