Where does the Dan Time go?? On this year-end recap, I take a minute to acknowledge some of the most exciting guests of 2024. I also take a minute to speak about what I've learned about amateur podcasting —and to beat back at some of the criticism you hear in the media. If you "took the ride" through the Daniverse this year, you were treated to some prolific, fascinating — and most importantly, likable — guests! Personalities such as Dan Brodie, Dan Zlotnick, Dan Sharp, Dan Maines, Dan Beebe ... or Dana Wylie, Dana Perry, Dani Kerr, Daniela Galasso ... they all told a story worth hearing. Perhaps you also enjoyed getting a glimpse into my network, hearing from a McArdle brother or another old friend (Denny Lyons, John Hunter).Dan Time has finally secured an AI Overview on Google! This is all made possible by you and your support.I appreciate YOU as a listener! Happy New Year.  The sisters talk with Dan Sharp about his latest release “Between the Brave, Bold and Given Up,” and being authentic to yourself through music.  Brought up in grassroots Aotearoa, Dan is a man of substance, dedication and has aheart of integrity. His commitment to his craft as an artist, songwriter and aproducer of music runs deep.  His music is courageous, thoughtful and disarmingly honest andcalls to mind the feeling of ‘They don't make them like this anymore'. Hisvoice ranges from gravely ruggedness to tender velvet, the full extent of suchis used to take listeners toward an emotional space of self acceptance.  2019's single release, ‘Kindle and Coal' (500,000+ Spotifystreams) displayed Dan's ability to deliver an impact and vulnerability alongthe lines of modern international's Lewis Capaldi and Dermot Kennedy, whilemaintaining his Springsteen-esque timelessness.  Opportunities were forthcoming with Dan opening shows for HollieSmith, Tiki Taane, touring with Graeme James, performing mainstage at Rhythmand Vines and completing a NZ tour with Ciaran McMeeken.  2020 brought about a management and booking agency agreement thatsaw Dan tour NZ with Thomas Oliver, support Dave Dobbyn, receive NZonAirfunding, and sign with newly established Tenfold Records. Dan also was affordedthe opportunity to work with award-winning producers, Thomas Oliver and SiGooding at NZ's famed Roundhead Studios. The passion and dedication is obvious. We begin with an in-depth introduction, showcasing the diverse styles and imaginative narratives the Netflix series offers to Thot, who is a newbie to the Love Death & Robots world. We also touch upon the military-themed episodes, offering our perspectives and detailed critiques. The watch party segment follows, including "The Secret War," "Shape Shifters," "Alternate Histories," "Ice Age," "The Drowned Giant," and tear-jerker "Lucky 13." After each episode, we pause to unpack the themes, explore the artistic prowess of the animation, and share their personal impressions and interpretations. Was Dan always focused and hard-working? And, what were some of his biggest frustrations while growing up? In this segment of the show, we highlight some of the pitfalls of the education system, and discuss why an overhaul is long due. Next, Dan reveals how joining Student Works changed his life forever. Listeners will learn how Dan’s Student Works stint helped him hone transferable skillsets that formed the foundation for a successful professional life.  After Student Works, Dan joined the tech giant, Canon. In the 90s, Canon, with its firm grip on the digital camera and office equipment markets, was one of the most sought-after employers in the world. Dan shares how Student Works operators managed to outperform their much senior and vastly more experienced counterparts with ease.  How did Dan manage to stand out among an elite group of professionals and eventually rise to the position of a National Director? Dan reveals how his Student Works experience helped him along the way. He also encourages listeners to adopt a far-sighted approach by focusing on continuous learning rather than money. After spending more than 10 years at Canon, Dan decided to don the entrepreneurial hat. Banking on his now considerable experience, he tasted success with his very first venture, a logistics business.  Next, Dan decided to segue into the IT and software business with Infoware. Infoware develops software that helps legal professionals draft legal documents. Essentially a Word add-in, this simple software generates excellent ROI for legal professionals. Was it daunting for Dan to enter a completely new industry? Did the experience gained from his previous entrepreneurial ventures help him manage this new business? In this segment, listeners will learn how to properly evaluate new markets and business opportunities.  Towards the end, Dan has some excellent advice for aspiring and new entrepreneurs. Topics discussed include work structure, work-life balance, establishing key differentiators and taking calculated risks.  We wrap up this show by discussing what it truly means to be a Leader of Tomorrow in this day and age. Tune in for some excellent nuggets!     Links:  Dan’s LinkedIn   Resources:  Student Works  Chris Thomson LinkedIn

Dan Sharp stops by Agile Amped to discuss his Mile High Agile 2016 talk "Refactoring to Deeper Insight: Lessons Learned Applying Domain-Driven Design (DDD)" (co-presented with Paul Rayner). DDD is a new approach to refactoring legacy code, which is often a confusing mess of code in many languages like a huge pot of spaghetti with way too many cooks throwing ingredients in. This approach sheds light on refactoring legacy code by rethinking the system in design terms: how are objects being modeled, what are the naming conventions, how to ensure that each part of the system only does what it's supposed to do and nothing more, etc. Dan provides an example that hits close to home: his own experience redesigning a product for his employer Nexia. Dan Sharp is a life-long geek, having been fascinated with computers since early childhood. Dan is Senior Software Architect for the Nexia™ team at Ingersoll Rand, affording him the luxury of a startup environment backed by a multi-billion dollar company.  SolutionsIQ's Evan Campbell hosts.
