Hello Educators! We are back with a brand new edition! We've been gone for over a year! WOW! Time flies when you are swamped at the day job. But, we're back! A little rusty, but here we are. This episode, Deana Marie educates Jeremy on the 1988 fantasy movie Willow, starring Warwick Davis, Joanne Whalley, and Val Kilmer. Hasn't everyone seen this movie? Well, not Jeremy! But that has been remedied! Check out this episode to see what he thought about it and if it "holds up". Also, towards the end, Jeremy refers to Chris Claremont as Chris Claremount. An easy mispronunciation but, rest assured, he has beaten himself about the head and shoulders for this egregious error.

Educating Jeremy

It's almost impossible to believe we hadn't yet covered a film based on the writings of Stephen King.  Well, believe it!  This week we rectify that offense with the 1976 thriller Carrie, based on King's book and directed by Brian DePalma.  It was almost accidental how Deana-Marie and Jeremy landed on this movie, King's first novel and the first film made from one of his books.  Yes, he's a lucky son of a gun, and Deana-Marie's favorite author.  This episode is full of so much trivia, cast members popping up in other films and, as Jeremy called it, the slap fest of 1976.

Book Vs. Movie Podcast Stephen King Bonus Ep "The Stand” The 1994 Movie Cast & Our Picks for the Cast of the Upcoming TV series   It’s another special “Stephen King Bonus Ep” and Margo D. and Deana Marie of the Twisted Philly are back and wanting to discuss quite possibly the biggest piece of Stephen King news that we have heard in ages. For many years there have been rumors of adapting King’s 1978 novel The Stand to either a TV series or as a film trilogy. So far we have had one adaptation--Mick Garris’ 1994 mini-series which ran on ABC-TV and is either beloved or reviled by hardcore fans. None other than Ben Affleck himself wanted to create a movie trilogy but the project never took off and remained in turnaround. So CBS All Access decided to say “hold my beer!” and create their own 2020 limited TV series which has King fans buzzing. The story is about an apocalyptic flu virus (“Captain Trips”)  that is spread across the U.S. and wipes out 99% of the population is one of King’s most revered works. The people who survive the flu break up into two camps: The “good people” (including Stu Redmond, Frannie Goldsmith, and Mother Abigail Freemantle) head off to Boulder,  CO. The “evil people” (including Trashcan Man and Lloyd Henreid) make Las Vegas their home In 1990 King released an unabridged version of the novel with an additional 400+ pages. There are scenes including a character called “The Kid” and Stu meeting Jim Morrison--but the1994 mini-series is mostly based on the abridged version. Will CBS All Access include anything from the 1990 version? In this ep, Margo D. & Deana are all about casting. We go in depth on how we feel the 1994 casting of our favorite characters and then each pick our personal choice for the new show. CBS casting people--please let us know if you are listening! Deana Marie and Jeremy had a most excellent date night recently; watching the classic horror film Nosferatu outside at Laurel Hill Cemetery, one of the oldest and first pastoral cemeteries in the country.  This film is nearly 100 years old and has influenced so many films and filmmakers.  It's even featured in an episode of Sponge Bob Square Pants.  Turn the lights down low because it's about to get spooky on Educating Jeremy.

Our trip down the memory lane of 80s movies continue with a listener requested film from 1989: Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. How 16 year old Jeremy never saw this movie when it was released is beyond anyone's comprehension.  Yeah, it's cheesy.  Yeah, it's excellent, at least according to Deana Marie.  She loves what she considers a nod to Dr. Who, young Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, and the most epic history presentation of all time.  Jeremy loves.... well, love might be a strong word for this one.  BTW, did you know Deana Marie bakes for Jeremy on every recording day?  Guess those throat punches are meant in love.  Excellent!  Strange things are afoot on Educating Jeremy.

Retired agent Jerri Williams served in the FBI for 26 years. During most of her Bureau career, she worked major economic fraud investigations targeting financial crimes and corruption. In this episode of FBI Retired Case File Review, she reviews the Foundation of New Era Philanthropy investigation, a $350 million Ponzi scheme perpetrated against unsuspecting nonprofit organizations, high profiled philanthropists, and beneficiary donors, which resulted in a 12-year prison sentence and multiple forfeitures. The case and Jerri Williams were featured on the CNBC show, American Greed, Confessions of a Con Man. She received a United States Attorney Award for Distinguished Service for her work on the New Era Philanthropy case, as well as two additional U.S. Attorney Awards for her work on an international advance fee scam, and a business to business telemarketing fraud. Toward the end of her FBI career, Jerri Williams was appointed as the spokesperson for the Philadelphia Division of the FBI, taking on the responsibility of educating and informing the media and public about the Bureau. Post-FBI retirement, Jerri served as the spokesperson and Director of Media Relations for SEPTA, Philadelphia’s public transportation provider. Both positions often placed her in the spotlight in front of local and national news media. Jerri Williams is the author of two crime novels. Her recently published novel, Greedy Givers, was inspired by the Foundation of New Era Philanthropy investigation discussed in this episode. Hey there! Remember me? Yup, The Story Behind is finally back after a hiatus I did not expect would be as long as it has. Here's the short version of what happened and why it was so long, and I promise this has everything to do with today's topic. I started editing and writing show notes for other podcasts on the side before I found out in October that I was going to be let go from my full-time job. When I found that out, it was the week I was gearing up for episode 100, so on top of learning a musical number, I also made the decision to turn helping people with their podcasts into a full-time business in the new year. What happens after we die? Is there a heaven? Is there life after life? Mediums are people who can communicate with those who have passed. James Van Praagh's definition is: A medium is a psychic who has fine-tuned his or her extrasensory perception and can interface with the spirits in other dimensions. They are able to feel and/or hear thoughts, voices or mental impressions from the spirit world. A medium is able to become completely receptive to the higher frequency or energies on which spirit people vibrate. This show will be about life after life and communication through Mediumship.
