For the entire month of May, in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, Joanna is bringing you a special parent series, where she interviews parents whose children have overcome a variety of mental health challenges. Today's Success is Subjective episode is a conversation between Joanna and Jennifer Taylor. With a unique perspective as both a mom of a young adult with ADHD and Autism, and as a professional working in the therapeutic world, Jennifer brings great wisdom and insight to parents with children and teens who are struggling. She discusses her son's journey, explaining that by 9th grade, when he was asked to leave his school, she had a crucial decision to make. Without delay in obtaining the resources her son needed in order to be successful, Jennifer and her now 23 year old son are able to enjoy the fruit of their labor after many years of turmoil. In closing, she encourages parents to befriend their grief and to practice self compassion, while remembering that progression is often incremental and sometimes it's backward and forward. Disclaimer: Please note that this special parent series is the parent perspective of their child's mental health and/or substance abuse crisis. This is merely one perspective of a single story, and it's important to know that names have been changed for the protection of the parents and the children. These episodes may include details surrounding suicide, self-harm, substance abuse including overdose, hospitalizations, psychotic episodes, and other traumatic experiences which include parts of the treatment journey. In this episode, Courtenay invites Dr. Jennifer Taylor, DC, DCCJP to the show to share what makes her practice with upper cervical chiropractic care so unique. We've all heard that the nervous system is predominantly ruled by emotions, but Dr. Jenn is here to share a different perspective. Her work with upper cervical care focuses on the base of the skull and atlas C1 & C2, which is a neurologically dense area of the nervous system many people don't hear about. Chronic conditions like post-concussion syndrome, dizziness, vertigo, migraines, chronic fatigue, depression, anxiety, irritability, and brain fog often stem from this space. In this conversation, Dr. Jenn outlines the mechanical methods she uses to assess her patients' conditions and find them long lasting care. How to Split a Toaster: A divorce podcast about saving your relationships
Why Is It So Hard to Not Be an A-Hole Sometimes?Brian Ronalds is back, author behind the How Not to Be an A-Hole series! On today's episode, Brian joins Seth and Pete to take a closer look at one of the key factors that play into the divorce scenario: one of the partners is an a-hole. But sometimes, that a-hole is you. Why is it so hard to get past this? Brian is back to share what it takes to look at yourself to work at being a better person who isn't an a-hole. It's a challenge, particularly as sometimes it involves figuring out what part of your issues in the marriage, the divorce, or post-divorce are because you and your partner/ex were a bad fit, and what parts are because you are being an a-hole.Sometimes it means therapy. Sometimes, it's working really hard to avoid those kneejerk reactions, particularly when it comes to texts. (Don't text back right away!) But it's worth it in the long run to work on these things. As Brian says, “It's lazy to get dirty, and it's hard to go above what they'd expect of you.” We have a great conversation today with him and are thrilled to have him returning to chat with us. With all of the talk of tech layoffs and a crunch in the tech market, it's important to remember that open technology positions continue to far outpace the supply of talent - particularly in the Northern Virginia region, where technology innovation and government need meet. ClearanceJobs recently chatted with Jennifer Taylor, president and CEO of the Northern Virginia Technology Council. NVTC is the region's technology trade organization and at the heart of cybersecurity growth in the nation's capital. Taylor described the role of NVTC, which is comprehensive. At it's heart, NVTC is a hub and "regional tech council that brings together all the players in our vibrant tech system," Taylor explained. Hosted on Acast. While running her own business, she had the pleasure of working alongside highly innovative and talented creatives throughout the industry and beyond. She noticed that many creatives are predominantly right-brained—wildly imaginative and expressive, but missing the necessary structure to create logical systems in their companies. In launching Jen Taylor Consulting, she made it her mission to help creatives build streamlined workflows, processes, and procedures so they can grow their business and spend their time on what they love most — their craft, their family, and their life. Jen's systematic knowledge of the inner workings of creative businesses has brought her to national stages and major industry publications. She has spoken at conferences like The Special Event, NACE Experience, and ILEA, as well as chapter-based events for NACE, The Wedding Network, ABC, and Western Washington University. Her expertise has also graced the pages of WeddingWire EDU, Special Events, Catersource, Book More Brides, Honeybook, and Wedding Planner Magazine. Outside of work, you can typically find her traveling throughout the West Coast or in Maui — the two markets her company serves for destination events. She also has a penchant for cooking and can often be found sipping on a refreshing glass of wine.
The Springs in the Desert Podcast: Catholic Accompaniment Through Infertility
In this episode, Stacey, Allie, and Abby discuss the temptation many of us feel to achieve fertility "at all costs" - from the pressure to take every last pill and undergo every procedure to believing the lie that God will withhold a baby if we choose to take a break from treatment. We share honestly about these temptations to make fertility an idol and speak the truth about our relationship with the Lord and our identity as His daughters. We also discuss how we are learning to trust and listen to Him above all the other voices, and to rest in His love. Listen in and know that you're not alone! Resources: Vlog: Am I doing enough? When you look in the mirror, do you love the skin you're in? For most of us, that seems impossible. And even if we do accept our bodies, does that mean we're abandoning any effort to improve? Oh, girl, this thought process is enough to drive anyone crazy! It's confusing and takes up way too much space in our heads and hearts. So today, we are going to make this a non-issue! Author Jennifer Taylor Wagner will show you how to overcome negative feelings about your body. And it starts with your mind—realizing you have a good body because it's the one God gave you. You'll be challenged in the way you think about health and wellness, and you'll learn that your worth and value aren't tied to your size. So, let's get to it! It's time to go from loathing to loving your body. SHOW NOTES: 413podcast.com/199

Today I'm hanging out with the absolutely amazing Jennifer Taylor Wagner. Jennifer was relentlessly bullied for her weight as a child, and then as an adult experienced incredible life change when she lost over 300 pounds. However, even after achieving such an amazing goal, she found that getting her body to a smaller size was not what fulfilled her life. She began to do some hard inner work and realized that the heart change that has to come about is vital to transforming how you view your body, and realizing what your body has been through. During our conversation, Jennifer shares her powerful story, all about her book Your Good Body: Embracing a Body Positive Mindset in a Perfection-Focused World and takes us to places where we can unpack some of the narratives we have around our bodies, our fragmented relationships with food, and the mess that diet culture has created. The heart of Jennifer's message is: The more you can see yourself holistically as a person, made on purpose by God, who is in the middle of a redemption story, in a body, also made by God in the middle of a redemption story, can lead to walking in freedom and being able to engage the life you're called to regardless of what your body looks like from the outside. Jennifer also specifically uses the Enneagram as a tool that can help us understand our motives, our struggles internally as well as our responses to our body. You'll hear that portion in the last 15 minutes or so and you can find her tools for how she uses it in the show notes and over on the blog! The Lord isn't finished with you, friend. There is so much healing to be had still on this side of Heaven. You matter and your story matters.
