It's one of the most ubiquitous taglines in advertising. W hen I say it… you'll instantly know which company they go with. Ready?Just Do It. This is the first commercial to use those three words… back in 1988. They never said the words in the commercial - in fact they're never spoken. At the very end of commercials… they just appear … and this is the guy who dreamed them up.Dan Wyden had a little advertising agency …that worked with this upstart shoe company… from Oregon. But the three words came in a twisted way… from Draper Utah. Where in 1977.. convicted killer Gary Gilmore was executed by firing squad Like most Americans … Dan Wyden was fascinated by Gilmore's last words.----Push through… Push Through… 11 years later… Wyden borrowed Gary Gilmore's farewell to the world … for Nike.——Just Do It. Words rarely spoken aloud… spawned at the state prison in Draper. … which gone. As is Dan Wyden… but his nike tagline is known round the world. And for an advertising guy… there's no better epitaph.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

My friend David (gay) and Ann (straight) Rickey share their journey. David, who kept the shame of his sexual orientation to himself for over 40 years, decided the time was right to come out to Ann in 2012 while serving as a Bishop in Nevada. Ann and David talk about the difficult and painful days that followed—but the joy, happiness and peace that is now in their marriage and lives. It is a beautiful love story. They also talk about the wonderful support from their adult children. Ann talks about how she would not change anything about David—including his sexual orientation because she doesn’t see this as something that is broken and needs to be fixed. David and Ann recently returned from serving a mission in Hawaii and now live in Draper Utah. If you want insights into how to better live the gospel and support others, please listen to this podcast. It will inspire you. You see we are now on season 2, this because we are now on RV #2. We decided to sell our rig and buy a newer one. The episodes numbers will continue the same sequence so this is episode 57, can you believe it??We placed our ad on RV trader and cost $250. It was sold in 1 month. I've always heard how much RVs depreciate. When we sold this one we got back our purchase price plus the cost for all of the solar and the cost for the two ceiling vent fans etc. I think the big thing is stay on top of the problems as they arise with the ring then when you're ready to sell you don't have a list of things to fix.Prior to selling it we got it detailed from National Detail Pros in Draper Utah, for almost $700. . They have contracts with local detailers and they sent a mobile guy to us here in New York. However there were a couple of issues with his service. He said he would be here for most of a day. It took him almost 2 days and he missed some areas. When I contacted the company they basically ignored my complaints. And not in a nice way. They also threatened to sue me for slander if I give any false reviews. Unreal !!!! So, I highly recommend you do not waste your money using this company. We had it on the market for a month. We had a few offers and deposits but then it seemed like they got nervous and backed out. Then we got a solid offer and sealed the deal. So now we are back to looking at newer rigs to buy. We found one at RCD RV Superstore in Sunbury, Ohio. We explained we wanted to see it and would be there in 2 days. They said it may be sold by then but if we put $1000 down they would hold it for us. So we did and drove over 8hrs to see it. Now, this was the 1st time I did a 8hr drive in one day in almost 20yrs. Yuck NOT for me but we know many folks and you may be one of them who love to drive long distances in a day.We arrived there Met George. Got the keys and .... saw a wet spot on the passenger side floor. Not a small one either. Carpet was soaked with water, from a leak. Then we tried to level it but the jacks wouldn't go down. Trish was outside and said there was Hydraulic fluid pouring out. And the slides wouldn’t operate. It's a real shame what dealers will try to sell. When we told them we didn't want to buy this rig he said but we're going to bring it in the shop tomorrow and fix everything.Imagine if somebody didn't know anything about RVs and was super eager to buy that one they would have jumped on band wagon and bought it.So we explained to George that we wanted our deposit back. We then went to look for other rigs in the area but didn't find any that matched what we're looking for. We headed back to New York and back to square one. We were trying to figure out exactly what we wanted and didn’t want in our next rig. It seems like every time we found a rig it got sold quickly. So we figured what we would do is find a bunch of RVs for sale in one area. Which meant we may have to fly down in Florida and look at a bunch. we were going to do this because there's a lot more RVs for sale in Florida than in Orange county New York LOL. We then went back on RV trader.com we found an RV that was a little bit above our highest price that we could go. But the floor plan matched exactly what we wanted. What we wanted was a living room with a sofa and a dinette and over the cab bed a self enclosed bathroom and a bedroom that was Private with a door not an accordion door and had enough wardrobe storage for our clothes. We found a rig up in Massachusetts. I sent the gentleman an email asking what would be the lowest price you could go period and his low price matched our upper end price exactly. We received our $1,000 deposit from the dealer in Ohio. And then we received confirmation from Bank of the West that are loan application was approved for the rig in Ohio. So we sent a $100 deposit for the rig in Massachusetts site unseen. This is all very new for us we don't like buying expensive this way. But these are weird times aren't they? 2 days later we drove up to Massachusetts we looked at the rig instantly fell in love with it. We were told to fax over 15 pages of information that Bank of the West requires along with a note stating that we lost the deal on the other rig in Ohio. Now of course we don't have a fax machine but my daughter and son-in-law do. so we gathered up the papers to fax to Bank of the West. It always seems like things happen all at once and sometimes I find myself in the need of talking to a stress Management consultant so it's easy for me I just start talking to myself. So I first figured out my priorities then addressed each one of them in order. Eventually I got to my daughter's I tried faxing the papers over the bank at the west. However after an hour and a half of trying more than 20 times. Trish texted me and said she's going to call Bank of the West. After a 45 mins on hold, she spoke to a woman he said oh you can just email those papers to us you know not to fax them.WELL Bank of the West has the best rates around for us for an RV loan BUT they are nothing but a pain in the neck to deal with. When we bought our last rig almost three years ago I ended up emailing two of the top people and Bank of the West to complain about the service. And it seems like we're dealing with that all over again. Finally we got everything to them and they said they would need to send an inspector over to look at the rig. Then they said they wont be doing that.We then got a text message from the seller saying he really wanted the rig gone quickly. He said when he bought it everything was done in one day and he doesn't understand the delay. He expressed concern of selling it quickly otherwise he may lose out on the warmer rving weather and miss opportunities to sell it. I then called the seller and explained we have the loan. It's going to take a little bit of time to get everything done with the bank , but the RV is considered sold and we do not want to miss out on this rig. We knew we were going to put down $8,000 on the rig so I told the seller mail him a bank check for our $8000 deposit and if need be I would drive it the 3 hours to him to hand it to him. He said we can overnight the check to him. We did, but he didnt check his mail until the following day. You know, in today's world it seems that instant gratification is definitely a thing. And meanwhile our rig was sold but was still sitting in the driveway because Bank of the West has not sent the release of lean to us. It took them 2 weeks for us to recieve it. Then the bank over nigted paperwork to us and the seller. We had ours back in the mail within 2 hrs. It took the seller 3 days to get his into the mail. I thought he was in a rush? Hmmm. But we figured we would deal with his headaches as opposed to flying to Florida (where there's a high count of corona cases), traveling all over the state and renting a car looking at rigs and then having to fly back down when a loan was approved to drive our rig back home from Florida. So we just deal with his headaches.A few days later our rig pulled out of the driveway for the last time. we sold it to a great couple from Pennsylvania and we wish them lots of happiness with it and safe travels. When they got home, we sent them a text to look in the storage bin - where we had left them a bottle of wine and a card wishing them joy. It was very bittersweet watching it pull away.. There's been a lot of memories in that RV and headaches too, but a lot of memories!!!! And we're looking forward to making new memories in our next rig. And a big part of our trips is ... the planning. Setting a destination and then a route. The Bank of the West sent the sellers a bank check (which took them another 2 days to get deposited in their bank). And the wont release the rig until the bank check clears. So, according to their website Bank of the West says they close on RV loans in 7 to 10 days it's now almost 3 weeks. So the delays with the seller and Bank of the West finally ended We picked up the New To Us rig. It's a Thor 2017 ACE 29.4. So until next time ....

In this episode I’ll be talking to the future of Magic: The Gathering, our kids. Who are the little mages that will carry the planeswalker spark into the future? Dana Fischer, little Nissa cosplayer and GP grinder, is barely big enough to the hold the cards, but she knows how to cast them. She’s beaten many opponents playing Elves. Nathan Steuer, competes at almost every tournament he can. A member of Team Versus Games from the San Francisco bay area, he’s ready to chew up anyone that stands in his way. Ethan Brown, a wiz kid from Portland stunned the coverage team when he made it to the finals of GP LA piloting Modern Affinity. Armed with a fierce knowledge of the metagame, he is eager to return to the Pro Tour. Miley Chen, this young spellslinger from Boston enjoys EDH, draft, and most importantly griefing her dad, Mainn. They practice drafts together often so I won’t be surprised if I see Miley at the Pro Tour soon. Leo Strober-Cohen, hails from Magic’s home town of Seattle. He’s excited to brew up decks and experiment in the game of Magic. He cares about making Magic more accessible in cost to all players that love the game. Quinn Kiefer, proud member of the Kiefer Brothers trio, Quinn has battled with the biggest names in Magic. Quinn is attending his first Pro Tour later this year at Pro Tour 25th Anniversary. All of these rising stars are eager to compete at the Pro Tour and one day see themselves in the Hall of Fame. I hope you enjoy my conversations with Dana Fischer, Nathan Steuer, Ethan Brown, Miley Chen, Leo Strober-Cohen, and Quinn Kiefer. Please give us a review on Apple Podcasts & iTunes! This is part 5 of our 5 part series on WUBRG. In this episode, we’re talking about Magic’s stompy side, Green. Master of Legacy Elves Daniel Nguyen returns to talk to us about why Green is the most fair color, and why playing Green is a pure form of Magic. The Beard-father, Magic pro, Chris VanMeter, shares with us his perspectives on how Green has had to evolve with Magic game design. How does green play so well with other colors? Is green actually the best color? Why is it both new player friendly and a favorite of veteran players? I hope you enjoy my conversations with Daniel Nguyen and Chris VanMeter on the color Green. In this episode, I’m talking to local Seattle Magic player, Daniel Duterte. Daniel defended this house by winning the Legacy portion of GP Seattle 2018. Such is the dream, show up to your hometown GP, and win the whole thing. Daniel defeated some major pros during the 15 rounds of swiss and 3 rounds of single elimination Top 8, including Brian Braun-Duin and Sam Black. Daniel scooped to his friend in round 15, but other than that, he technically went undefeated throughout his entire run during the Legacy GP. That’s quite historic considering shortly after during the Standard GP, Chinese player Gan Yan also went undefeated with a staggering 18-0 to claim the Standard trophy. Wow, the hometown of Magic, Seattle, does not mess around. Back to back undefeated winners in the double GP in Seattle. I’m so happy to share my interview with the Seattle hometown hero, Daniel Duterte. In this episode, it’s the walking talking Basic Mountain, legendary fire mage, Patrick Sullivan. Whenever I’ve asked anyone for advice playing burn, they would always tell me to watch features matches of Patrick. Patrick has a strong knowledge of how to carefully use resources in the game of Magic. His skill and experience with the game also makes him the best commentary buddy with Cedric Phillips. Together, Patrick and Cedric are the commentary phenomena that powers SCG coverage. Patrick is a game designer for Dire Wolf Digital making Eternal, and he also talks to us about the color Red from a game designer’s perspective. Please give us a review on Apple Podcasts & iTunes! This is part 4 of our 5 part series on WUBRG. In this episode, we’re talking about Magic’s spiciest flavor of mana, Red. Commentator and streamer TJ Rogers joins us to talk about his favorite color, and why he loves Tibalt. Level 2 Judge, and Card Kindgom’s pricing expert, Kris Ferderer talks about why Red is the color of his youth playing Magic. And the legendary Patrick Sullivan give us his thoughts on Red from a game design perspective. Just like the chaotic nature of Red, this episode jumps around, so you’ll want to listen to every second of it. See what I did there? In this episode, I’m talking to the pioneer of Magic streaming coverage, Rashad Miller. In 2009, Rashad set up a computer and pointed a 480p video stream at a pair of Magic players battling it out in a PTQ. The quality wasn’t great, you couldn’t really see the cards, and audio was dodgy, but it marked the beginning of a journey that would change the way how Magic gets broadcasted. After that, Rashad went on attend every Grand Prix he could, broadcasting matches of Magic across the internet. Eventually, Star City Games and then Wizards of the Coast picked up Rashad to produce Magic coverage as we see it today. Rarely do we have influencer that has helped the gaming community in so many ways, and I’m excited to share my interview with Rashad Miller. In this episode, we’re talking about the color Black with co-host of the vorthos podcast the Loregoyfs, Michelle Rapp, and Seattle Legacy grinder and master of Legacy Elves, Daniel Nguyen. Black is often cited as the villain of Magic. But is it really? What makes Black such a deviously fun color to play? And with Black dominating Legacy and Modern, it seems that almost every deck uses black in some way, or is prepared to go against it. We’ll be talking about our favorite black cards, and also a unique perspective on the evil side of the color pie. In this episode, I’m talking to one of the OG’s of the MTG community, Ben Seck. Ben hails from down under, that’s Australia for all you non-Australian people! Ben was an early voice and community builder of the Magic scene in Australia many years ago. He organized tournaments, lent cards to pros like Kai Budde, and quickly found himself traveling the world, and playing Magic. Ben did quite well in Grand Prix and Pro Tours, and eventually landed a job in the gaming industry. Ben credits the opportunities he’s received getting jobs in the gaming industry to his involvement in Magic. Ben is excited to see the Magic community flourish. This is part 2 of our 5 part series on WUBRG. In this episode, we’re talking about the color Blue with Legacy grinder Jordan Aisaka, Judge Tournament Organizer Frank Stanley, and Magic personality Ben Seck. Blue is a hot topic in Magic. It used to be the best color and now it’s not. We’ll be talking about what makes Blue so cerebral as it is oppressive and hard to play. Blue dominates Legacy, but will it dominate again in Modern or Standard? What are the most notable cards in blue that create game states that are so interesting? What the history behind blue and where is blue headed in the future of Magic design? We’ll answer those questions and more. I hope you enjoy my conversations with Jordan Aisaka, Frank Stanley, and Ben Seck, about the color Blue. In this episode, I’m speaking with the champion of white weenie, Craig Wescoe. Craig is a legendary pro player who’s been playing on the pro tour ever since he was a teenager. Craig used to roll with the old school players and decided to play Magic professionally after teaching philosophy at the university level. Craig’s understanding of critical thinking makes him a deep learner and a fierce competitor. Craig has also been writing Magic strategy content for years and recently published his millionth word online. Craig also shares with us his personal philosophy on his Christian faith, veganism, and the stewardship he has towards other people, animals, and the earth. Craig also tells us his thoughts on the color White of the MTG color pie. I hope you enjoy my interview with the champion of the Savannah, Craig Wescoe. In this episode, I’m talking to the master of Legacy Elves, Daniel Nguyen. Daniel is a Seattle Legacy player who dedicated himself to testing and grinding tournaments. Daniel’s experience and long history with the game lead to him creating a primer on Elves, which has been standard reading for Magic players around the world. Daniel talks with me about growing up playing Magic as a kid, and what he’s doing to help preserve Legacy in today’s Magic community. If you’re going to GP Seattle in April, I’m sure Daniel will be there. (And so will I, come by and say hi) Go say hi to him. He’s super friendly and knows a lot about Legacy. In this episode, I’m talking to the commentator, streamer, and host, TJ Rogers. TJ is an advocate of Magic streams, and wants to help more players and local game stores broadcast their games on the internet. TJ is interested in solving the technical challenges that comes along with streaming. What camera to buy, how to set up your computer, what the overlay should look like, what should the feature match area look like? TJ believes that live streaming matches with players on the internet builds community because it’s a way for more people to feel like they’re at the game store playing magic. TJ is also researching ways of integrating cutting edge card reader technology into live streaming to deliver a better viewing experience. I caught up with TJ in the fall of 2017. In this episode, I’m talking to the founder of Chessex, Donald Reents. Chessex makes a variety of high quality dice in different shapes, color combinations, and designs. Donald has been in the gaming industry for decades as an avid chess and backgammon player. Donald cares about the quality of his products and one day decided that he needed to take matters into his own hands and make his own beautiful dice. When he found the right factory in Germany, Donald’s creativity took off with a myriad of designs and color combinations. For over 25 years, Donald and Chessex has brought fun and quality to the gaming community. I caught up with Donald during the summer of 2017. You can check out Chessex’s catalog at chessex.com, that’s http://chessex.com. You can find Chessex dice at almost every local game store that sells table top games and Magic: The Gathering products. I hope you enjoy my conversation with Donald Reents, the founder of Chessex. I’m talking to legendary player, Jay Schneider, the creator of the first Burn Deck, popularly known as Paul Sligh Red. Jay created Sligh Red because it was play tested to beat his good friend Paul Sligh, who ironically was an avid blue player. In doing so, Jay created the concept of the Mana Curve, which is now a foundation of how Magic is played and decks are built. Jay also worked for Wizards R&D where he helped play test paper products and had a big role in developing the hugely successful Duels of the Planeswalker game for Xbox. I’m amazed to hear of Jay’s contributions to Duels of the Planeswalkers as it was a milestone for Wizards of the Coast in their journey to create a widely adopted digital game. And now that Magic Arena has been announced I hope to see some design elements from Duels. If you want to read up more from Jay, I’ve included links at KitchenTableMagic.org to his past articles about the original Paul Sligh Red deck. Happy Halloween Everyone! In this very special episode, we’re diving into the Magic community’s spookiest mystery, the Séance Buyout. Two years ago, reddit user jobs141910 created a post giving users a bounty to purchase and destroy as many copies of Séance as possible. Then, about a year ago, the same mysterious user offered a reward of $40k worth of bitcoins to whoever pilots a Séance deck to prominence on the Pro Tour. Joining us today, MTG finance expert Jason Alt joins us to enlighten us on the mystery that is Séance guy. Then, pro player and renowned deck builder, Zac Elsik talks to us about how to brew up a competent Séance deck. Then our third guest, joining us from deep in the internet, Séance Guy jobs141910 himself is joining us to answer our burning questions! Welcome to the Season 3 premier of Kitchen Table Magic. It is so good to be back. Over the summer, I’ve been hard at work booking and interviewing new guests for this season. You’re really going to enjoy all the interview’s I’ve had. Let’s kick things off with our first guest of Season 3! I’m speaking with former L5 judge, and founding member of the Elder Dragon Highlander Rules Committee, Sheldon Menery. Sheldon helped to popularize Magic’s most fun format, EDH now officially recognized by Wizards as Commander. Sheldon tells us about the early history of when Commander was still called Elder Dragon Highlander, and even how it got it’s name. Follow Sheldon on Twitter http://twitter.com/SheldonMenery Link to the official MTG Commander website: http://mtgcommander.net Sheldon also has a special gift for listeners, stick around to find out how to get it. I hope you enjoy my conversation with one of the original Elder Dragons, Sheldon Menery! Sponsors: Card Kingdom Kitchen Table Magic is brought to you by Card Kingdom. In this episode, I’m hanging out with Marshall Sutcliffe, creator and host of Magic’s most popular podcast Limited Resources. This is a fantastic episode, I hope you enjoy my conversation with Marshall Sutcliffe. To the content creators out there, remember what Marshall said, if you have an idea and you want to make something for the community, now is a great timing with the boom of Magic: The Gathering. In this episode, I’m talking to veteran pro player David Ochoa. Last spring, David appeared in his 100th Grand Prix. David is one of the best players in the game, and play tests with Luis Scot Vargas, Paul Cheon, Josh Utter-Leyton, and Matt Nass. David writes for Channel Fireball and tweets about food, especially breads and toasts. He also shares some tips on how to get better at Magic. Remember what David said, to get better, find a group of players, they’ll help you get better. And for newer players, find a great place to play Magic. Having fun in a nurturing environment will make all the difference. I want to thank Amie Bailey and Gerry Thompson for encouraging David to be a guest on the show. I met a lot of great people at GP Portland last summer in 2016. If you want to hear about how a GP is put on, listen to my interview with Tim Shields, Season 2 Episode 201. At that GP, I was also able to meet Cedric Phillips, Brian Braun-Duin, Christine Sprankle, and JC Tao in person, all of which have shared their stories on Kitchen Table Magic. I want to take a quick moment to tell you about my friend Brian and the Magic players at Paragon City Games in Draper Utah. Paragon City Games is an up and coming game store and they’re hosting giveaways every week on Twitch. They’re giving away lots of cool things, including Die Hard Metal Dice, which are die cast in Zinc and then electroplated with other metals. Todd makes them with care and craftsmanship. And because Paragon City Games really cares about building a community of Magic players locally in the Salt Lake City Area, they’re doing many things to give back to the player community. First, they’re streaming Tuesday night Legacy at 7 pm Mountain, which is 9pm Easter and 6pm Pacific at https://www.twitch.tv/ParagonCityGames Second, with the recent changes to Grand Prix Trails no longer being held at local game stores, Paragon City Games have decided to award travel vouchers to players at win GPTs at their events. That is a really awesome way for them to go the extra mile for the last few GPT events available to players in their local community. Please check out Paragon City Games’ Twitch stream every Tuesday night for giveaways. It’s an easy way to win some great stuff and watch Legacy. Links will be in the show notes at Kitchen Table Magic.org. I want to thank my new Patreon Supporter James! I surprised him the other night by showing up in person to deliver a bag of those Magic Fish Crackers Brad Rutherford and I were munching on in our deck tech of Abzan Company episode 205. A lot goes into making Kitchen Table Magic, I want to bring you stores from iconic figures in the MTG community that have never been told. I want you to know that every dollar you give through Patreon.com/KitchenTableMagic goes into making the show by paying for server costs, audio editing software, and equipment. And, if we meet our goals, I’m committed to rewarding my Patreon supporters with memorable gifts. I want to thank all of our Patreon supporters: Brian, Markus and James! Thanks to everyone for tuning in to this week’s show! I’m always here to chat and answer your questions. Email me: sam@kitchentablemagic.org I’m on Facebook.com/KitchenTableMagicPodcast and on Twitter @KTMpodcast That’s where you’ll find me photoshopping random things.
