TWØBAYS weren't the first gluten-free brewers in Australia, but they've certainly done their bit when it comes to putting Australian gluten-free beer on the map, not least when their Session Ale was named best GF beer on the planet at last year's World Beer Cup in the States. Before achieving that prestigious high, they'd already become the first indie brewer to breach the macro-booze citadel that is the MCG – a move that has opened more doors for them – and set about changing people's perceptions as to what beers brewed without barley and a range of other malts typically used in brewing can be.Ahead of their 2025 Free The Taps event, at which some of the country's best beer venues are hosting TWØBAYS tap takeovers during Coeliac Awareness Week, we joined founder Richard Jeffares and head brewer Kristian Martin at the brewery's Dromana home.As well as hearing about Richard's journey from coeliac diagnosis relatively late in life to brewery owner via tours of GF breweries in the US, we discuss the ethos driving the business, the challenges of brewing with atypical ingredients, and their lofty – yet entirely reasonable – goals for the future. Before we get to Richard and Kristian, we discuss Labor's latest election promise to the beer world, Slipstream's success at this year's Royal Queensland awards – plus our “Slays Beer” feature on the young brewer behind their green Pandan-Monium beer, the recent openings of Rocky Ridge Duncraig and the new Bracket Brewing, Bright's move into the heart of Melbourne, the closing of entries for this year's Australian International Beer Awards and more.We also celebrate more good beer citizens with the second winner in our "Have You Done A Rallings?" campaign: Russell Steele, from Easy Times Brewing in Brisbane.Start of segments: 15:47 – Richard & Kristian Part 1 42.48 – Have You Done A Rallings? 46.14 – Richard & Kristian Part 2Relevant links: TWØBAYS' World Beer Cup Gold Free The Taps Labor Boost Their Election Promise Slipstream's Awards Success John Nguyen Slays Beer Bracket Brewing Are Back Rocky Ridge Duncraig Opens Bright Buy PAs In Carlton Have You Done A Rallings? Jetty Road released their collaboration beer with neighbour Jimmy Rum, and the way it came together was kinda cool, so Blake told me a bit about it.Jetty Road BreweryJimmy Rum Distillery
Tell me if you've heard this before...two mates go to Oktoberfest and dream of starting a brewery. A pretty common occurrence, but not too many take it seriously once the hangover has cleared. Blake and Grant had a dream, and a bit of a plan, but I bet neither of them had any idea of what the journey would hold for them.Try to keep up with the pace in this one as Blake openly shares the ups and downs, twists and turns of this coming of age tale of a couple of lads from Dromana. Along the way, they add business partners, buy some stainless, face covid uncertainties, and find a couple of investors in the form of Mighty Craft who believe they could one day be a national brand.I look forward to having a beer with Blake one day, cos drinking an IIPA with him over Zoom wasn't enough...even if he was shouting the beers!Jetty Road BreweryWant to help spread the craft beer gospel?Follow me on Instagram, Facebook, or YouTubeRate, Review and Subscribe on Apple Podcasts...click the link on your phone and scroll to the bottomOr Follow/Subscribe on your favourite podcast player

This is a very unique episode recorded in a shipping container at Golden Plains music festival with Ben 'Tuffy' Lee. Plus a bonus poem from Emilie Zoey Baker recorded at Fairfield Boathouse. We start the conversation by talking about Tuffy's band The Dirty Bloods and what lead him to getting to the place where he would start his own band in his 40's. Many thanks to Ela Fornalska for being our MTAW Muse of the Week! Ela supplied the prompt 'Firsts', for which I wrote this poem. FIRSTS. My first kiss was at midnight on a boat shed deck on a Mornington Beach. She made me listen to Echo and the Bunnymen’s ‘Killing Moon’ on her Walkman. The headphones dropped from my head as she kissed me into oblivion. My first taste of marijuana was from a bucket bong in a rock and roll St Kilda share house. A baptism of THC fire. My first punch I ever received was at 15 years old playing football for Beleura against Dromana. I tried to wrestle him away from a teammate who he was also punching and then he turned around and punched me directly in the face. It’s true you really do see stars. My first sex was in a bedroom in Seaford while her mother baked cookies in the kitchen. To this day the smell of freshly baked cookies produces a Pavlovian tingle in my loins. My first time in a plane was flying to Mexico on a one way ticket with my girlfriend who I would marry three years later. We broke up 18 months later and divorced. She held my hand tightly as the plane took off. My first breakup was in the Melbourne Botanical Gardens on a clear bright sunny day. Which lead to the second and last time I was punched as she pummelled my chest with her fists while tears streamed down her face. My first record I ever owned was the Beach Boys Greatest Hits, a birthday present from my parents. My first record I ever bought with my own money was Pat Benatar live. Because I was in love with her and certain we would marry one day. Love is a battlefield. My first car was a 1965 Bottle Green Hillman Minx. I drove it all the way home from the sellers house with the hand brake still on and was terrified that I had ruined it. I hadn’t. I also used to keep a bunch of plastic flowers spread across the dash board because I wanted to be Morrissey. My first has never been my first because everything has happened before and will happen again. For Whelan and Stealin' Tuffy reads some of the lyrics of And the Ass Said to the Angel: "Wanna' Play Kick to Kick?" and Fosters Car Boogie from TISM. I read a poem by Matt Cook called James Joyce, that I first heard on a CD called The United States of Poetry created by the amazing Bob Holman. You can see the film clip for James Joyce right here. Lastly we hear from the wonderful Emilie Zoey Baker with a bonus poem recorded by the river at Fairfield Boat House. Emilie's poem is inspired by the song Alphabet Aerobics by Blackalicious, especially Daniel Radcliffe's mindblowing cover of it on Jimmy Fallon. Thank you as always to our generous supporters Luxe Country and Castaway Studios. (Sean M) Whelan, out.

Mike takes it back to the beginning doing laps in the school parking lot and then Little Athletics at Dandenong. He shares how he was recruited to Arkansas University, how the NCAA system bridges the gap between training junior and senior athletes and what his experiences were in the college team setting. Mike then goes talks about the qualification process to get into the 2000 Sydney Olympics running the 5000m, what the experience was like and the support received from Athletics Australia. Opening up about the difficulties he had in finding a coach afterwards, Mike then talks about what ultimately made him retire from the sport professionally, how he adjusted to life afterwards and recounts his traumatic scare with cancer and then closes with his observations on the NCAA college system and running culture in the US.

Grant Rodgers is the co-director of Jetty Road Brewery, a craft brewery on the Mornington Peninsula that is absolutely thriving in less than a year of opening its doors. The process to actually opening the doors in Dromana has been an epically long and arduous journey. Coming in late into the Great Australian micro-brew boom competition is also high. How has Grant, his mate since birth Blake and the Jetty Road crew made JRB stand out as a leader in quality beer, food and made themselves a must-visit establishment in under a year? There is so much more to running a brewery than we think, especially one as elaborate as Jetty Road.

When Kate McIntyre was 10 years old her parents established Moorooduc Estate on the Mornington Peninsula, which is not only one of the first commercial producers but considered one of the best. With only a casual interest in wine herself, it was culture and language that enticed her to travel overseas when she was younger. Upon her return she gained employment in the wine industry in a retail position, taking the opportunity to learn. She soon combined her burgeoning interest in wine with her love of Europe, working for a number of years for top Italian wine importer Trembath & Taylor. Eventually she was motivated to return home to join the family business, while concurrently studying to become a Master of Wine. She joined me on this episode to talk about her journey and how Moorooduc Estate is today.
Peter: Hallo Katja! Peter: Was? Was hast du am Wochenende gemacht? Peter: Was wirst du in den Ferien machen? Was wird deine Familie machen? Peter: Stimmt! Ich werde bestimmt tolle Ferien haben! LearnClick Quiz
