Message Notes: 9 I, John, your brother and partner in the tribulation and the kingdom and the patient endurance that are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. 12 Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest. 14 The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, 15 his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. 16 In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength. – Revelation 1v9-16 (ESV) “A man says to me, 'Can you explain the seven trumpets of the Revelation?' No, but I can blow one in your ear, and warn you to escape from the wrath to come.” – Charles Spurgeon About John: - He's our brother - Partner in the tribulation - Exiled to a penal island called Patmos - “On account of the word of God” - He was in the Spirit (on the Lord's day) 10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet 11 saying, “Write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea.” – Revelation 1v10-11 (ESV) Living for Jesus… 1. Living for Jesus starts with turning to Him 12 Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest. — Revelation 1v12-13 (ESV) Bear fruit in keeping with repentance. – Matthew 3v8 (ESV) I consider that the chief dangers which confront the coming century will be religion without the Holy Ghost, Christianity without Christ, forgiveness without repentance, salvation without regeneration, politics without God, and heaven without hell. – WILLIAM BOOTH 2. Living for Jesus is fueled by knowing Him 14 The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, 15 his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. — Revelation 1v14-15 (ESV) HIS HEAD - POWER AND AUTHORITY HIS EYES - HOLINESS IN PERFECTNESS “Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.” – Revelation 3:19 (ESV) HIS FEET - HE'S COMING WITH JUDGEMENT HIS VOICE - HIS DIVINE STANDARD HIS HAND - STRENGTH AND HONOR HIS FACE - INTIMACY & INSTRUCTION In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength. – Revelation 1v16 (ESV) For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. — Hebrews 4v12 (ESV) 3. Living for Jesus means listening to Jesus. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. — John 13v35 (NLT) If you love me, you will keep my commandments. — John 14v15 (ESV) 17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Message Notes: So if you consider me a partner, welcome him as you would me. (18)And if he has wronged you in any way, or owes you anything, charge that to my account. (19) I, Paul, write this with my own hand: I will repay it — not to mention to you that you owe me even your very self. (20)Yes, brother, may I benefit from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in Christ. (21)Since I am confident of your obedience, I am writing to you, KNOWING that you will do EVEN MORE than I say. (22) Meanwhile, also prepare a guest room for me, since I hope that through your prayers I will be restored to you. —Philemon 17-21 (CSB) At that moment the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Suddenly, the Lord's words flashed through Peter's mind: “Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me.” - Luke 22:61 (NLT) (14) This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead. (15) When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?" "Yes, Lord," he said, "you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my lambs." (16) Again Jesus said, "Simon son of John, do you truly love me?" He answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep." (17) The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my sheep. - John 21: 14-18 (NIV) Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. - Ephesians 4:31-32 So what's are THE SPIRITUAL fruits that we must have as believers on dealing with a brother or sister who has wronged you? 1. Love “Love is our trademark.” “by this all people will know you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” - John 13:35 (ESV) True love is not appealing. True love is on the contrary of our world view (I'm only going to love those that love me.) If I speak in tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. - 1 Corinthians 13:1–8a (ESV) 2. Forbearance (meaning self-control and restraining from taking action) The Lord will fight for you while you (only need to) keep silent and remain calm: - Exodus 14:14 God knows how to deal with our situations “My dear brothers and sisters, take not of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20. Because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. 21. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you which can save you.” - James 1:19 - 21 “Be quick to listen to God's thoughts on a matter, slow to speak your own point of view, and slow to anger, you should not like what God has to say in contrast to your own human perspective.” - Dr. Tony Evans 3. Gentleness Let your gentle spirit (your graciousness, unselfish, mercy, tolerance, and patience) be known to all people. The Lord is near. - Philippians 4:5 (AMP) I will say to the Lord,”My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!” - Psalm 91:2 WHAT GOD RESTORES HE MAKES BETTER!

I'm convinced God is working in my life 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.16 You will recognize them by their fruits. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God's heavenly call in Christ Jesus. Therefore, let all of us who are mature think this way. And if you think differently about anything, God will reveal this also to you. In any case, we should live up to whatever truth we have attained. - Philippians 3:12-16 CSB All memories can be moments but all moments can't be ascertained as memories as all of them aren't stored in memory or they aren't relatively memorable as those moments which are stored as indelible memories. - Unknown We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. - Romans 8:28 CSB 1.The Past Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come! - 2 Corinthians 5:17 CSB Don't be bound by the past and its failures. What does Forgiveness do? 1. Forgiveness changes me 12 Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. — Colossians 3v12-13 (ESV) The Types of Forgiveness: Detached forgiveness - reduction in negative feelings but no reconciliation in the relationship Limited forgiveness - reduction in negative feelings, partial restoration, with less emotions Full forgiveness - total cessation of negative feelings, relationship is fully restored Forgiveness frees you from needing to get even. 2. Forgiveness is a choice 13 I would have been glad to keep him with me, in order that he might serve me on your behalf during my imprisonment for the gospel, 14 but I preferred to do nothing without your consent in order that your goodness might not be by compulsion but of your own accord. – Philemon 13-14 (ESV) Forgiveness means you don't bring up what someone did anymore… When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. — John 16v33 (ESV) 3. Message Notes: 14 Remind them of these things, and charge them before God not to quarrel about words, which does no good, but only ruins the hearers. 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. 16 But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness, 17 and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18 who have swerved from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already happened. They are upsetting the faith of some. 19 But God's firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.” – 2 Timothy 2v14-19 (ESV) Orthotomeo (handle) – to cut straight, to proceed straight, hold a straight course 4 They will reject the truth and chase after myths. 5 But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. – 2 Timothy 4v4-5 (ESV) For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. – Romans 7v15 (ESV) WHY DO WE POST ON SOCIAL? Self-presentation: positioning yourself they way you want to be seen 24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life[a] will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? — Matthew 16v24-26 (ESV) WHY DO WE SHARE OTHERS CONTENT? Reciprocity - the practice of exchanging things with others for mutual benefit WHY DO WE COMMENT ON SOCIAL? Actions speak louder than words. 16 But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness, 17 and their talk will spread like gangrene. – 2 Timothy 2v16-17 (ESV) Thoughts to consider: 1. Comments will try to demand my response 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. 38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?”39 And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. — Mark 4v37-39 (ESV) Discretion - the quality of behaving or speaking in such a way as to avoid causing offense or revealing private information Jesus asked 307 questions recorded in scripture Jesus was asked 183 questions in scripture Jesus only directly answers 3 questions Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent. – Proverbs 17v28 (ESV) 2. Comments are different from meaningful debate but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, – 1 Peter 3v15 (ESV) DISAGREEMENTS DON'T HAVE TO BE DECLARATIONS OF WAR “Don't raise your voice, improve your argument.” – Desmond Tutu 3. Comments can distract me from my purpose 2 Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching. 3 For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will reject the truth and chase after myths. 5 But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don't be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you. – 2 Timothy 4v2-5 (ESV) 4. Comments can dominate my identity

HEALTHY EXPECTATION 13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. – John 15v13-15 (ESV) You have a right to expect things from friends that you don't expect from others. 36 Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here, while I go over there and pray.” 37 And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me.” 39 And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.”….. 40 And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? – Matthew 26v36-40 (ESV) 2. COMMITMENT NO MATTER WHAT 3 Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon's, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. 4 And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” 6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking. 7 They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink – Luke 5v3-7 (ESV) 9 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: 10 If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. 11 Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? 12 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. — Ecclesiastes 4v9-12 (NIV) “My best friend is the one who brings out the best in me.” — Henry Ford 3. AUTHENTIC ACCESS One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. – Proverbs 18v24 (NIV) LOVE IS GIVEN… BUT ACCESS IS EARNED 35 While he was still speaking, there came from the ruler's house some who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?” 36 But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.” 37 And he allowed no one to follow him except Peter and James and John the brother of James. 38 They came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and Jesus saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. 39 And when he had entered, he said to them, “Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but sleeping.” 40 And they laughed at him. But he put them all outside and took the child's father and mother and those who were with him and went in where the child was.41 Taking her by the hand he said to her, “Talitha cumi,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.”42 And immediately the girl got up and began walking (for she was twelve years of age), and they were immediately overcome with amazement. — Mark 5v35-42 (ESV) Be authentic with everyone but transparent with people you trust.

18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” 19 Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. 21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. 22 And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. 23 Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” 24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed. – Genesis 2v18-25 (ESV) Garden - cultivated environment that produces fruit. Marriage - cultivated environment that produces fruit. 3 And he told them many things in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. 5 Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, 6 but when the sun rose they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away. 7 Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. 8 Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. 9 He who has ears, let him hear.” — Matthew 13v3-9 (ESV) A happy marriage is a long conversation which always seems too short. – Andre Maurois He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD. - Proverbs 18v22 (ESV) Healthy relationships have: 1. REST 8 And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9 And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. – Genesis 2v8-9 (ESV) 2. RESPONSIBILITY The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. – Genesis 2v15 (ESV) 28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body. 31 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. 33 However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. — Ephesians 5v28-33 (ESV) 3. RESTRICTION 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” – Genesis 2v16-17 (ESV) 4. RESPONSE 4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. – Genesis 3v4-6 (ESV) Every marriage needs a response. There he found some disciples. 2 And he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” 3 And he said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John's baptism.” 4 And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.” 5 On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking in tongues and prophesying. 7 There were about twelve men in all. – Acts 19v1-7 (ESV) As the world gets more like the empire of Rome, the church has to get more like the book of Acts  Three Things in the book of Acts Demonstration of the Holy Spirit  Evident fruit of the spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control) The “Church” started as a prayer meeting  1 And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. 2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. 4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, 5 so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God's power— 1 Corinthians 2v1-5 (ESV) about the Holy Spirit… 1. The Holy Spirit comes in you to save you, and He comes on you to use you 1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 2 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; 3 to grant to those who mourn in Zion— to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified. – Isaiah 61v1-3 (ESV) 2. The Holy Spirit has moods, but He's not moody The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit. — ‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭8‬ (‭NIV‬‬) What matters is not the different ways He comes, but that He knows how YOU need Him to come.  3. The Holy Spirit is an untapped relationship for many 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. – 1 Corinthians 15v3-6 (ESV) In those days Peter stood up among the brothers (the company of persons was in all about 120) – Acts 1v15 (ESV) 4. The Holy Spirit needs to be honored And he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” And they said, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” — Acts 19v2 (ESV) And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. — Joel 2v28 (NIV) And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking in tongues and prophesying. — Acts 19v6 (ESV)

Message Notes: 2 Simon Peter, Thomas (called the Twin), Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together. 3 Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. 4 Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. 5 Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.” 6 He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. 7 That disciple whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea. 8 The other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, but about a hundred yards off. - John 21: 1-8 “Seeing is not always believing.” - Martin Luther King Jr. 1. RESTORE HOW YOU LISTEN So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. - Romans 10:17 ESV 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight paths. - Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV 7 That disciple whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea.  - John 21: 7 (ESV) If we restore how we perceive Jesus, we restore how we see our own lives. 2. RESTORE HOW YOU THINK 9 When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread. 10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn. 12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” Now none of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish. 14 This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead. - John 21:9-14 ESV 1.) Logical reasoning- They used to so it 2.) Security: There is always gonna be fish 3.) Practical: It is  a respectable career What does this show about the Character of Jesus? -He doesn't want you possessions (150 Fish) -He doesn't need your works (Called back out of the boat) -He will never shame you for missing the mark (moving off of their own logical thinking) 3. RESTORE HOW YOU RESPOND John 21: 15-23 For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. - Matthew 12:34 Phileo was viewed as a brotherly type of love. It is a kind of affection that says “I like you”. Among the common uses of the word today are: Philadelphia – City of Brotherly  Agape was defined as a divine love which is expressed by the words “I commit to you.” This is the love of Christ. Love that is sacrificially committed. “Your heart posture towards Jesus will always determine how you respond to him”

His mother's name was Abijah the daughter of Zechariah. 2 And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, according to all that David his father had done. 3 In the first year of his reign, in the first month, he opened the doors of the house of the Lord and repaired them. 4 He brought in the priests and the Levites and assembled them in the square on the east 5 and said to them, “Hear me, Levites! The exclusivity of Christ  “Aren't all religions leading to the same place?” Christianity is 1 of 4 religions based after a personality, but 1 of 1 religions that claim a verified bodily resurrection. 2. The criteria for heaven “I'm a good person, why must I follow Jesus?” 3. The call to a new life and ethic  “Why should I let God decide how I live my life?” Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. – Romans 12v2 (NIV) Three people see Jesus  Mary magdalene, the one who went to Him first Peter, the one who walked in and looked inside  John, the one who believes (sees the same thing as Peter) In case you missed it…  1. The gospel does not entice us, it invites us  Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb – John 20v1 (ESV) 2. Church is not a race, it's a family  It seemed to them like idle tales… and they did not believe – Luke 24v10-12 (ESV) 3 So Peter went out with the other disciple, and they were going toward the tomb. 4 Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 And stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. – John 20v3-6 (ESV) 3. Lordship is not a limitation, its liberation  Lordship - supreme power or rule  6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there, 7 and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself. 8 Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; – John 20v6-8 (ESV) We aren't limited from the good life when we follow Jesus… we're set free to live a whole new life. blepo - to notice  And stooping to look in, he BLEPO the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. — John 20v5 (ESV) theoro - to study closely  Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He THEORO the linen cloths lying there,  — John 20v7 (ESV) eidon - to see with understanding Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he EIDON and believed; – John 20v8 (ESV) 11 But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. 12 And she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. 13 They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” 14 Having said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher). – John 20v11-16 (ESV)

Untie it and bring it here. 3 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing this?' say, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.'” 4 They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it, 5 some people standing there asked, “What are you doing, untying that colt?” 6 They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. 7 When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it. 8 Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. 9 Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” — Mark 11v1-9 (ESV) The Bible - God is good, we are bad, we need God's help to be formed into His image. The Culture - We are good, some things with God are bad, we need to help God be formed into our image.  15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. — 1 John 2v15-17 (ESV) Repentance - A change of mind that results in a change of action (usually a reversal of one's decision) 3 Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? 5 But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed. — Romans 2v3-5 (ESV) Three ways to look at repentance:   Legalism - “just stop sinning” Liberalism - “avoid it God loves you”  The gospel - deep change as a response to Jesus Be perfect (telios - complete, mature, whole) therefore as your Heavenly Father is perfect. — Matthew 5v48 (ESV) Repentance isn't about perfection… but a desire to be perfected.  Lessons from a donkey. 1. Now Israel went out to battle against the Philistines. They encamped at Ebenezer, and the Philistines encamped at Aphek. 2 The Philistines drew up in line against Israel, and when the battle spread, Israel was defeated before the Philistines, who killed about four thousand men on the field of battle. 3 And when the people came to the camp, the elders of Israel said, “Why has the Lord defeated us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord here from Shiloh, that it may come among us and save us from the power of our enemies.” 4 So the people sent to Shiloh and brought from there the ark of the covenant of the Lord of hosts, who is enthroned on the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God. - 1 Samuel 4v1-4 (ESV) Characters of this story: Eli - the high priest at the time Samuel - newly called prophet to Israel Hophni & Phinehas - corrupt sons of the priest Eli's daughter in law - wife of Phinehas The Philistine Army - fear pushed them to fight 12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. 14 If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. — 1 Peter 4v12-14 (ESV) Lessons from this story: 1. POSTURE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN PERFORMANCE 10 So the Philistines fought, and Israel was defeated, and they fled, every man to his home. And there was a very great slaughter, for thirty thousand foot soldiers of Israel fell. 11 And the ark of God was captured, and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, died. – 1 Samuel 4v10-11 (ESV) THE BIBLE IS THE MANUAL, JESUS IS THE MODEL 58 For they provoked him to anger with their high places; they moved him to jealousy with their idols. 59 When God heard, he was full of wrath, and he utterly rejected Israel. 60 He forsook his dwelling at Shiloh, the tent where he dwelt among mankind, 61 and delivered his power to captivity, his glory to the hand of the foe. — Psalm 78v58-61 (ESV) 2. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no frequent vision. 2 At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim so that he could not see, was lying down in his own place. 3 The lamp of God had not yet gone out, (3am or 4am) and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was. 4 Then the Lord called Samuel, and he said, “Here I am!” 5 and ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call; lie down again.” So he went and lay down. 6 And the Lord called again, “Samuel!” and Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call, my son; lie down again.” 7 Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, and the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. — 1 Samuel 3v1-7 (ESV) Beware of anything that competes with loyalty to Jesus Christ. The greatest competitor of devotion to Jesus is service for Him. . . . The one aim of the call of God is the satisfaction of God, not a call to do something for Him. — Oswald Chambers Types of Calling: The General Call - For all to Repent and believe the gospel The Effectual Call - Deepen your intimacy with God The Technical Call - A specific area of vocation in the earth 8 And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. He struck Peter on the side and woke him, saying, “Get up quickly.” And the chains fell off his hands. 8 And the angel said to him, “Dress yourself and put on your sandals.” And he did so. And he said to him, “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me.” 9 And he went out and followed him. He did not know that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision. 10 When they had passed the first and the second guard, they came to the iron gate leading into the city. It opened for them of its own accord, and they went out and went along one street, and immediately the angel left him. 11 When Peter came to himself, he said, “Now I am sure that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from all that the Jewish people were expecting.” 12 When he realized this, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose other name was Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, 2 who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw. 3 Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near. – Revelation 1v1-3 (ESV) Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known. — Jeremiah 33v3 (ESV) What is end times revelation? 1) Revelation is a grace The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place. MESSAGE NOTES: 2 Six days later Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up a high mountain to be alone. As the men watched, Jesus' appearance was transformed, 3 and his clothes became dazzling white, far whiter than any earthly bleach could ever make them. 4 Then Elijah and Moses appeared and began talking with Jesus. 5 Peter exclaimed, “Rabbi, it's wonderful for us to be here! Let's make three shelters as memorials[a]—one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 6 He said this because he didn't really know what else to say, for they were all terrified. 7 Then a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my dearly loved Son. Listen to him.” (perspective) 8 Suddenly, when they looked around, Moses and Elijah were gone, and they saw only Jesus with them. 9 As they went back down the mountain, he told them not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man[b] had risen from the dead. 10 So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what this rising from the dead might mean. 11 And they asked him, “why do the scribes say that the first Elijah must come? 12 Jesus responded, “Elijah is indeed coming first to get everything ready. Yet why do the Scriptures say that the Son of Man must suffer greatly and be treated with utter contempt? 13 But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they chose to abuse him, just as the Scriptures predicted.” Mark 9:2-9 ESV “Another answered prayer is not the solution” 1) PRAYER IS SIMPLE 2 Six days later Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up a high mountain to be alone. And the men watched, Jesus' appearance was transformed Mark 9:2 ESV 2) PRAYER DOESN'T HAVE TO BE TRADITIONAL 5 Peter exclaimed, “Rabbi, it's wonderful for us to be here! Let's make three shelters as memorials[a]—one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 6 He said this because he didn't really know what else to say, for they were all terrified. Mark 9:5-6 ESV 7 Then a cloud overshadowed (covered) them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my dearly loved Son. Listen to him.” Mark 9:7 3) PRAYER ISN'T FOR YOUR RESUME 9 As they went back down the mountain, he told them not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man[b] had risen from the dead. Mark 9:9 But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.
