After the unimaginable deaths of her four children, she discovered practices that reframed grief through love and spiritual growth. Author of Mother of All Memoirs: The Crystal's Butterfly Effect and The Compass to the Soul, Vickie blends personal experience with modalities like breathwork, mandala art, and MAP (Make Anything Possible) therapy. Through her books, workshops, and private sessions, she shows others how to raise their vibration, process emotions, and reconnect with their true essence, offering hope and practical tools for navigating profound loss.Throughout this episode, Vickie shares her journey from the stillbirth of her daughter in 1980 to the later losses of three more children. Though devastating, these experiences became the foundation of her healing work. She explains how spiritual coaching, breathwork, and MAP therapy helped her process grief and shift perspective. Instead of remaining in sorrow, she now sees her children as pure love, often felt through signs like rainbows and synchronicities. She highlights the power of raising one's vibration to connect with loved ones, honoring their legacies by helping others heal, and transforming pain into purpose.Connect with Vickie Menendez:WebsiteInstagramTikTokVickie Menendez: Mother of All Memoirs book seriesLet's Connect: WebsiteLinkedInFacebookInstagramTwitterPinterestThe Grief and Happiness AllianceBook: Loving and Living Your Way Through Grief Hosted on Acast. Send us a textJoin Cheryl Lee - That Radio Chick on STILL ROCKIN' IT for news, reviews, music and interviews with some of our favourite Australian musiciansSarah Buckley's effervescent energy radiates through every moment of our conversation about The Buckleys, the dynamic sibling band that's breathing fresh life into Australian country music. Growing up in the Byron hinterland with a father who drummed for The Radiators before exploring big band, rockabilly, and boogie-woogie piano, music was always destined to be their path."Dad was always playing," Sarah reminisces, explaining how their father deliberately steered them toward country music as a more wholesome alternative to the rock world he knew. This musical upbringing included learning guitar from James T of Canned Heat fame and performing at local festivals from a young age. The journey from competing in the BluesFest busking competition as children to returning as official performers years later represents a full-circle moment that clearly still resonates with Sarah. The conversation takes an exciting turn when Sarah details her songwriting collaboration with Alexander Lasker from Kingswood. Unlike the structured Nashville writing sessions she was accustomed to, their creative process flowed organically into the early morning hours after breaks for dinner and drinks. This rock and roll approach yielded their previous single "See You Folks Again" and their new release "What Were Your Dreams Made Of" during one particularly inspired night. The latter track showcases Sarah's powerful vocals alongside a fierce mandolin solo in what she describes as "a high energy anthem built for dance floors, festival stages, and country playlists alike."The family dynamic adds another fascinating layer to The Buckleys' story. Recently, youngest brother Dylan has joined the band after earning his stripes and completing his "band probation," as Sarah jokingly puts it. When asked about playing with siblings, she candidly admits it's "a mixed bag" with moments that are "explosive and very short" before everyone moves on professionally. This authenticity extends to their annual "Buckleys and Friends" jam session at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, where they strip back to the spontaneous energy of their musical upbringing.Discover the infectious blend of honky-tonk heart and rockabilly rebellion that's made The Buckleys one of Australia's most exciting young bands. From their #1 debut single to festival stages across two continents, they're proving country music's resurgence is in capable hands. Give their new single a listen and experience pure Buckley magic for yourself! What have The Buckleys been up to lately? Kathleen Folbigg was convicted over the deaths of her four babies in 2003 in a case that shocked Australia. The first three were treated as cases of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) but when Laura died, the authorities looked to Meadow's Law and arrested the grieving mother. That controversial theory held that “one sudden infant death is a tragedy, two is suspicious and three is murder until proved otherwise”.She always maintained her innocence. In 2023 a judicial review found that the babies may have died of a genetic condition and having served nearly two decades in prison she was freed. Her case is now regarded as one of Australia's greatest miscarriages of justice. In August, the now 58-year-old woman, who was once branded “Australia's worst mother”, was awarded just AUS$2million for 20 years of wrongful imprisonment. The sum was far less than anyone predicted says award-winning investigative journalist Quentin McDermott. He wrote the book on Meadow's Law and made the TV documentary that helped raise questions about the safety of her conviction, leading to the review that freed her.In the first of two episode on the case, McDermot explains how the now discredited legal concept led police to Kathleen Folbigg's door.Presented by Bernice Harrison. Register for MAGNETIC: FIRST EVER women-only event in Phoenix, AZ November 2nd and 3rd 2024. www.AmandaHanson.com/MAGNETIC Do you believe balancing personal fulfillment with the demands of motherhood is essential for a happy and harmonious family life? During a recent heart-to-heart with my daughter, Ava, we uncovered an essential insight into the world of motherhood, it's fantastic moments and it's hard moments. The key takeaway: The significant role of self-care and personal fulfillment in being a mom. As someone who's been down this road, I've come to understand the vital importance of maintaining a sense of purpose and personal well-being while nurturing a happy and healthy family dynamic. Here's the thing: A mother's fulfillment is not a selfish pursuit. It's crucial to fostering an emotionally stable and nurturing environment for her children. Imagine when a mom's emotional cup is filled with joy, love, and nourishment; it lets her pour the same into her children's lives. But when that cup is empty and brittle, there's little to offer when faced with the inevitable bumps and challenges of parenting. Women's Pesach Class: This class waspresented on Tuesday, Parshas Tazria, 1Nissan, 5784, April 9, 2024, at Bais Medrash Ohr Chaim in Monsey, NY. Who are the four children of the Haggadah? Whats this great hullabaloo about them? Why four and not five, six, or ten? Why are they central to our Passover experience? What are their questions, and why are these questions so important? The premise to answering these questions is that the four children are not external to us; they are within each of us: Within each of our hearts, there are four children who ask four distinct questions. What are four bigquestions on Judaism? 1) The strange laws that we simply cannot wrap our brains ahead. 2) How can small people believe that G-d cares about their lives and actions, especially in a painful and scary universe? 3) I lead my own life and define my destiny; I dont need G-d. 4) I dont care. The Haggadah addresses each of these four powerful questions, with which each of us struggles in one way or another. Erev Pesach in Bergen Belzen. The Bloshever Rebbe sacrificed his life to obtain matzah. But when the Nazis discovered the matzah bakery, all was gone besides a few matzos. He decided the elderly would get them. The now 63-year-old Lawrence DeLisle killed 8-year-old Bryan DeLisle, 4-year-old Melissa, 2-year-old Kathryn, and 8-month-old Emily by driving his station wagon into the Detroit River on August 3, 1989. He was sentenced to five life terms without the chance of parole. (Credit: Getty) Eastpointe City Council voted 4 to 1 this week to keep the road five lanes from Tuscany Avenue to Kelley Road, rather than make it three lanes as voted "for" back in February, because there would be no money for the so-called "road diet."
A hypothetical based on a real-world situation, not at Temple Emanuel, but at another Jewish organization: Imagine you are on the rabbinic search committee for some institution near and dear to your heart: shul, Hillel, federation. You read the resume of a candidate. Superb. Excellent education. Deep experience at Jewish summer camp. Has lived Judaism in a rich journey. Doing exceptionally well in rabbinical school. You go into the interview very favorably disposed. At the interview, you like this candidate. You feel a connectivity. Chemistry is good. Then you ask this candidate about Israel. The candidate responds: I am not anti-Zionist. I am just not into Israel. I want to teach Torah, mitzvah, Shabbat, chagim, tikkun olam, a Torah of love and bridge-building. And I can't do that with Israel. Israel is just too divisive. Israel does not build bridges. It creates rallies and counter rallies. So I am not against Israel, it's just not part of my religious identity nor will it be a part of my rabbinate. Should we hire this candidate, reject this candidate categorically, or reject this candidate with some ambivalence? Here is a lens. At the upcoming Pesach s'darim, there is that classic kneged arbaah banim, The Four Children. The voice that says “I am very into Judaism. I am training to be a Rabbi to teach Torah and mitzvah. But I am not into Israel. I am not anti-Zionist, I am just not a Zionist”—is that Wise, Wicked, Simple, or the One Who Does Not Know what to Ask? One last layer of complexity: Last year Hebrew College's Rabbinical School changed its admissions policies so that intermarried rabbis can get admitted and ordained (a move that I enthusiastically agreed with and supported). How do you think of the non-Zionist rabbi in the larger context of the fact that intermarried rabbis are now being admitted and ordained? Are you good with both? With neither? With one but not the other, and if so, how does your thinking work? Complexity. It may be coming soon to a seder table near you.

Kathleen Folbigg has spent nearly 20 years in prison after being convicted of killing her four children. But in 2018, a group of scientists began gathering evidence that suggested another possibility for the deaths — that at least two of them were attributable to a genetic mutation that can affect heart function. A judicial inquiry in 2019 failed to reverse Folbigg's conviction, but this month, the researchers will present new evidence at a second inquiry, which could ultimately spell freedom for Folbigg. This is an audio version of our Feature: She was convicted of killing her four children. Florence lives in LA with her husband and 4 children. She's from the UK, but was partly raised in Spain where she met her husband who is Peruvian. Florence trained as an opera singer, and now is the Publisher and Co-Founder of an arts and culture magazine in LA. In common with many IFers, Florence has struggled with her weight since she was a child/pre-teen and spent all of her adult years trying different diets and ‘lifestyle changes'. After each baby she would retain most of the pregnancy weight and even gain more in the first year postpartum! After baby number 4 in 2018 she reached her highest weight and after a lifetime fighting with food and dieting, assumed she just had to accept it. Then Covid-19 hit. Florence got some sort of respiratory infection in April 2020, which may or may not have been Covid, but it suddenly became clear to her that she wasn't going to allow her kids to become motherless from only one pre-existing condition - being obese. Florence had dabbled in IF for a month the previous summer to ‘lose some weight' before a trip to visit family because she was ashamed of how overweight she was. But after the trip the pressure was off, then the holidays came, and IF went by the wayside. With the sudden impetus to live to see her kids grown, Florence started her IF journey in earnest in June 2020 and has never looked back. She will never go back to what she now refers to as ‘poisoning herself with food'. Florence originally found IF from a random comment from a friend. It had sounded completely bizarre to her, but she'd looked it up at some point later and joined Gin Stephens' facebook group. From here she found The Fasting Highway and Graeme's supportive community. Being on this sudden determined mission of health in 2020, she jumped straight into OMAD and thanks to the clean fast, found it easy enough. From here she has tried many different protocols, released 70lbs, become a daily runner, tapped into appetite correction, healed her relationship with food, and has settled into an intuitive flexibility with her IF.
