Alex Morinello is the owner of the incredibly successful boutique marketing firm called Pop the Campaign! I met her in the BOOM of her biz, worked with her and got to know her through the lens of creating marketing content for my work. When I was testing this new Healthy-ish framework I offered up a blueprint to some of my fav busy, working, moms friends and Alex jumped on board. It was a JOY to create a blueprint for her and to record this episode where we move through the many eras of Alex's health, the intersections fo business and wellness, burnout, and finding a way back. {CW: we do discuss weight briefly in this episode) You love hearing us talk about: the realities of a successful business and viral videos nervous system dysregulation how online work can erode self esteem and confidence what burnout looks like when you're still a busy mom, running a business dieting to IDGAF to finding intuitive answers to HEALTHYISH looking for validation in body (and large corporations) only to come home to yourself Healthyish Storefront Work with Dr. Jill Find Alex Morinello on Instagram --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/foodfreedombodylove/message
For real tho, does the word gratitude make you wanna regurge? If so, I understand and THIS IS FOR YOU. I've been living in a brand new space for the past few months - one that I'm resistant to call gratitude but, bb, I think that's what it is. Cliché perhaps but maybe for a good reason... In this episode I'm talking about this new place of peace and acceptance I'm in how upheaval in my personal and professional life have LOUDLY paralleled old patterns I've had with food and body and the TWO things that I believe have helped me get to this place, FINALLY But don't talk about it too much... I'm terrified I'll jinx it and this magic will go away!! lol UPDATE: I jinxed myself! Right after scheduling this episode I had two sick kids on my hands - one with an ear infection and one with a broken ankle. I'm serious. With a surgery needed, a healthcare system bursting at the seams, a full moon coating everything in BIG EMOTIONS - where does gratitude fit in. I'm not sure but I'm glad I'm in a place of more acceptance and calm. Tune in to hear more:) --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/foodfreedombodylove/message
A rambly episode about triggers, shadow work, attachment style and alllll the ways I self protect. I think you'll love this if you've been feeling judge-y, shame-y, embarrassed, or easily triggered. It happens to the best of us, right? Might as well talk about it and try to work WITH these parts of ourselves:) --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/foodfreedombodylove/message

On this episode of the Healthyish podcast, Sarah and Chrissy join Amanda Shapiro (not a lifelong vegetarian) to talk about their plant-based paths, when and why they break the rules, and how to cook to please even your most carnivorous friends... just in time for your July 4th parties. Lulu Wang, the director and writer of the"The Farewell," thought a lot about food while making her film. We spent the majority of this year and last cooking and eating at home, and while we're so sick of staring into our fridges, we did learn a thing or two along the way. If you're anything like us, it's been a year of heavy snacking, and we're NOT mad about it. Snacks are one of life's greatest joys, and despite what your health teacher may have told you, eating between meals can be a perfectly healthy habit. But as the “functional snack” industry booms, how do we know what's deliciously healthyish and what's B.S.? On this episode of the Healthyish podcast, Amanda Shapiro brings in Andrea Henandez, the mind behind the cult-favorite Snaxshot newsletter, and BA senior staff writer and in-house snack expert Alex Beggs to talk about how snacking is taking over our diets and what they've been loving and tossing from the snack aisle these days. In This Episode: Lily references "Ua Mau ke Ea o ka ʻĀina i ka Pono" which is Hawaii's state motto in Native Hawaiian; translated to English means, "the life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness." Lily's perspective on wellness and how it's our birthright that we don't just opt into. How Lily's childhood upbringing on Maui formed her connection to the land and her viewpoint on capitalism and plantation culture. Lily's personal observations of the effects of the pandemic-induced mass exodus to Hawaii by wealthy Americans. The lack of self-consciousness around race in Hawaii is paired with a false narrative that it is a utopic melting pot. Her personal journey with the work, and knowing her place, and how to show up as a White woman in a way that makes her a true ally. The harm caused by spiritual bypassing and ignoring real pain and harm and how this damages liberation movements by denying the truth. Lily's career in blogging was the gateway for her influencer career on Instagram so why did she want to leave it? How she created the inclusion rider for BIPOC influencers. How doing the work is quite similar to confronting oneself as one done in therapy. Her intention with the What's Your Story journal that she co-created with Rebecca Walker and how journaling can be the pathway for transformation. How acknowledging our interconnectedness is the beginning of our healing. How this is the only hope to heal the planet socially, politically, and in the wake of climate change. In 2020, Dawn Davis, took the reins as editor-in-chief of Bon Appétit along with Condé Nast's other food brands including Epicurious, Healthyish, and Basically, across digital, video, OTT, social and print platforms. In doing so, she made history as the first woman of color to hold this position. Acknowledged as "a book world star" by the New York Times in their coverage of the appointment, Dawn's editorial vision is directing a new chapter at the 65-year-old publication. Each year in October, Bon Appétit celebrates the "Hot Ten", a list of America's Best New Restaurants in its Restaurant Issue. This year, under Dawn's guidance, the Restaurant Issue was redefined and is reflective of the times. The issue honors "the restaurants, people and organizations that gave us hope with a brand-new awards list, Heads of the Table." The issue celebrates the resilience, variety of food, and the people who make them run, the ones that sprang up or pivoted during the pandemic to help their communities and others in the industry who needed it most, from giving opportunities to the formerly incarcerated to feeding neighbors. Dawn spent decades as an accomplished publisher and author, with a passion for food and culture. Her prolific publishing career at 37 Ink, a Simon & Schuster imprint, included bestselling and award-winning titles: Heads of the Colored People by Nafissa Thomas-Spires, winner of the 2019 Whiting Award; the National Book Award finalist, Never Caught: The Washingtons' Relentless Pursuit of Their Runaway Slave; Ona Judge by Erica Armstrong Dunbar; and several New York Times bestsellers , including Tough Love: My Story of the Things Worth Fighting For by Susan Rice; The Butler: A Witness to History by Wil Haygood, later becoming a major motion picture directed by Lee Daniels; The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl by Issa Rae that helped pave the way for her tv show, Insecure; and I Can't Make This Up by Kevin Hart. Her time at HarperCollins, overseeing the Amistad imprint, resulted in publishing numerous well-known, highly acclaimed authors, including Edward P. Jones, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Known World; Attica Locke, author of Black Water Rising; and Chris Gardner, author of The Pursuit of Happyness, that also became a major motion picture starring Will Smith. Her passion for food culture is exhibited in the first cookbook she acquired, Recipe of Memory: Five Generations of Mexican Cuisine by Mary Lau Valle and Victor M. Valle, and was nominated for two Julia Child Cookbook Awards and a James Beard Award. As an author, Dawn wrote If You Can Stand the Heat: Tales from Chefs and Restaurateurs profiling some of the most dynamic chefs of the times including Edna Lewis, Bobby Flay, Anthony Bourdain, Michael McCarthy, Patricia Williams and Linda Rodriguez. Listen in as Dawn and host, Brad Johnson, discuss some of the featured people, stories and recipes in the October issue of Bon Appétit: The Restaurant Issue, along with a variety of other topics including: Dawn's journey that led to publishing, some of her favorite Martha's Vineyard places to visit; reflections from time spent in Nigeria; the significance of a high-profile restaurant going meatless; expanding the dialogue around African American cuisine's contribution to American cuisine; her cookbook collection; and stories about the interesting chefs she included in the book she authored.
