Jam-packed genre films with Chris Hemsworth. Sarah Watt, Jeremy Downing and William Chen discuss Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) and Cabin in the Woods (2011). We begin by sharing our honest reactions to Thor: Love and Thunder, especially how ridiculous film is - comparing to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), Free Guy (2021), Black Panther (2018) and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968). We praise the performances of Russell Crowe, Christian Bale and Chris Hemsworth. We criticise the characters played by Natalie Portman and Tessa Thompson, considering their representation in regards to sexism and queer-baiting. We then pivot conversation to talk about Cabin in the Woods, both our first reactions a decade ago and our rewatching reactions. We praise the cast of Bradley Whitford, Richard Jenkins, Amy Acker, Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchinson, Kristen Connolly and Fran Kranz. We consider the film in connection to other Joss Whedon work, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003), Dollhouse (2009-2010), and Much Ado About Nothing (2012). We return back to Thor and consider how the two films successfully achieve their intentions. We compare the films to Get Out (2017), Scream (2022), Batman Returns (1992), Hunt For the Wilderpeople (2016), and Boy (2010).
Jon, JR, and Pierce go long on three Taika Waititi films. Hunt For the Wilderpeople is universally praised, Thor Ragnarok gets us talking about the trash the MCU is currently churning out compared to when the movies were pretty good, and during our talk about Jojo Rabbit, the phrase 'this is not allowed' gets used a whole bunch. thor_hunt_for_the_rabbit.mp3File Size: 112582 kbFile Type: mp3Download File [...]

Please be aware the stories, theories, re-enactments and language in this podcast are of an adult nature and can be considered disturbing, frightening and in some cases even offensive. Listener Discretion is therefore advised. Welcome heathens welcome to the world of the weird and unexplained. I'm your host, Nicole Delacroix and together, we will be investigating stories about the things that go bump in the night, monsters lurking under your bed or deep in the forest, that unknown creature lurking just out of sight and frighteningly imagined creatures, ghosts, supernatural beings and even some unsolved mysteries. So, sit back, grab your favorite drink, and prepare to be transported to today's dark Enigma.... And on today's Dark enigma well we have another listener suggestion and this one, well it's definitely one of my favorites. So, with that said, we will still be playing our drinking game and as you know, the drinking game is only for those of us that are at home and have nowhere else to go tonight. The choice of libation, as always, is yours, so choose your poison accordingly… Alright, now for the game part how about every time I say Vampire that will be a single shot and every time I say London, that will be a double shot. Now that the business end is out of the way we can jump headfirst into today's dark enigma… and we're going to be donning our Sherlock hats as we dive into The Hunt For a Vampire In HighGate Cemetery and Other Bizarre Happenings in 1970's London. Ah The 70's, a time when the clothing was the worst, the hair wasn't much better, and the porn had real bodies and real hair… hey the afro's weren't just on the heads my friends, but the 70s were a pretty crazy time, but the guys in today's story took it to a whole other level. Local newspapers in the 1970s caught onto a story that would attract national attention - there was a vampire on the loose in HighGate cemetery, and two men were competing to be the first to catch it. The cemetery, in North London, was the 'it place' for the resting souls of wealthy Londoners in the 19th century. The graveyard is an impressive landscape of intricate tombstones, gothic busts battling unruly ivy, and an A-list guestbook of permanent residents including German philosopher Karl Marx and novelist George Eliot.

#101 Pulp Fiction, Chasing Amy, There Will Be Blood We’ve reached triple digits! For a special one of a kind episode, we deiced to pick three films that are personally awesome. Luke went with the Kevin Smith classic Chasing Amy and we discuss its merits for such a 90’s movie. Oscar picked the quotable There Will Be Blood in order to further the dark version conversation about America and what it means to be American since the 1900’s. Ralf went with the coolest pick, Pulp Fiction and yes, we try to add something new to say about this beloved crime-comedy as with the others. Happy quarantine. Heyyy everyone! Sorry for the late upload. We had some technical difficulties. This week Elise and Alexis review the strange documentary "Hunt For the Skinwalker." We pretty much flame the documentary because *SPOILER ALERT* it's bad. We also offer our own theories of what really happened at Skinwalker Ranch. Was Peppa Pig involved? Was Robbie Williams? The world may never know We reference the Last Podcast on the Left series about Skinwalker Ranch quite a bit so here's the link to that. https://soundcloud.com/lastpodcastontheleft/episode-352-skinwalker-ranch-part-i-the-utah-flap --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

After sharing our top picks from September in Episode 5 we share our real and raw opinions of all the other books, TV shows, and movies we read and watched in September. We also talk about whether or not you can eat chips in a movie theater and what are some of our favorite modern westerns. At the end of the episode we speculate about the TV series, films, and books we are anticipating in October. We’d love to hear what you think about what we discussed. If you have a suggestion you would like for us to read or watch you can share them with us online. Amanda: Twitter, Instagram, and Goodreads Emily: Twitter and Letterboxd Thank you for listening! Time-stamped show notes are below with references to every book, TV show, and film we mentioned in this episode. For this episode, Kat picked Akira Kurosawa's Throne of Blood which was a first time watch for both of us. Did it live up to its reputation? The Criterion Blu Ray sure did not hurt its cause? "The Hunt For the Real Moby Dick" -In 1839 journalist Jeremiah Reynolds, writing for the New York Knickerbocker Magazine, caught up with the whaling ship "Penguin" off the coast of Chili, and interviewed the first mate, getting the eyewitness account of the hunt for and capture of the whale known as 'Mocha Dick", a 90 foot white whale that had been responsible for attacking and sinking the whaling ship "Essex" , the story of which has been recently released as a Ron Howard movie. Reynolds spends the first 16 minutes of this story introducing us to the island of Mocha, off the coast of Chili, in prime whaling waters, as well as the captain and first mate of the whaling ship Penguin. The First Mate, having recently gained notoriety as the man responsible for finally catching the killer white whale, picks up the story around 16:00, and thats where the action begins- so hang on to your seat for this eyewitness account. Whales are thankfully protected today and are no longer needed to keep the lights in the cities of Paris and New York burning, or the mills and factories running. But in the 1800's many a young lad was drawn to the ports of Gloucester and New London for a chance at adventure. Many never returned. WARNING: THIS AUDIO DEPICTS THE KILLING OF A WHALE.
