**yawn** Oh, there you are, dear listeners. You seemed to have caught me at a moment of residual drowsiness while experiencing my peacefully calm awakening. Give me just a second to open the curtains to let a sliver of morning light into my hovering capsule as I prepare a warm cup of coffee to thaw out my still-wandering grey matter. Would you like coffee, tea, hot chocolate? Name it, and I'll prepare it for you so that our morning routine of our minds slowly blossoming into the day is met with success and gratitude. If you'll allow, I'd love to drop a coin into the cosmic jukebox to get a jingle going. I have just the one. It's a lullaby wrapped in the stars and delivered softly to the transmission tower that beams radiant solace in the form of aural sugar. Today, as we climb skyward, you will notice the fog in our minds will give way to clouds that form familiar figures that only our individual imaginations can decipher. These clouds are multi-purpose in that they also form pillowy soft foundations that help us prepare for witnessing the splendor of Mother Earth coming around. Once the sky begins to awake, cherish the moments of viewing blissful colors in the sky, hearing the sounds of earthly gears beginning to rotate, and seeing life flourish once again. This phenomenon happens daily, but every time it's like the first. Bask in the glow that rains down from above, and realize the fortunes you have to be given allow you this luxury. Take time to reflect upon those who are not with us and no longer have this awakening luxury. In their honor, celebrate an appreciation for them that they impressed upon your memory with peaceful reverence. Seeing the sun rising and setting is a commemorative episode, one which we should celebrate. You old boy Tonepoet is here to hang out with you in the cloud chamber during this event. Mentally bathe yourself in the rich light that the heavens have delivered to you. This is a nectar of renewal, so lather up, rinse, and repeat. Unify with the peaceful envelope of optimism, hope, and emanate good will to one another. Yes, I'm a hippie today. It would be remiss of me not to mention this episode's esteemed co-captain on the voyage who happens to be one of my all-time favorite artists: HIDDEN SKY. Hidden Sky soared up from the land down under and boasts an impressive vault of sonic poetry. I own every Hidden Sky release, I'd be a fool not to, and I did my best to insert his music throughout the mix. Pay Hidden Sky a visit and show the love. Peace.
Escuchar audio

It's Thursday and Paul and Kyle are live on the ground in Miami Florida for the annual NAMAD Members Meeting. We grab new president Perry Watson IV for a quick chat, then also talk about the latest strike target, as well as the growing use of gigapresses in manufacturing as other OEM's take a page out of Tesla's playbook.Show Notes with links:“You just lost Kentucky Truck Plant”. Those were the final words of Wednesday night's negotiation meeting between UAW and Ford negotiating teams which included UAW President Shawn Fein. According to those close to the matter, the UAW informed Ford that they wanted to see a new counter offer by Ford on economics by 5pm. When they met and Ford didn't have an updated offer, Fein stood up and said, “If this is all you have for us, our members' lives and my handshake are worth more than this. This just cost you the Kentucky Truck Plant.”Ford labeled the union's decision as "grossly irresponsible" and mentioned they had already provided an "outstanding offer". The company also indicated that the strike would jeopardize many other jobs and facilities.Ford's Super Duty truck line holds immense significance for the company. The vehicle line alone generates more revenue than major corporations like Southwest Airlines, Marriott International, and Nordstrom did in 2021. It also accounts for over half of the market in commercial segments, including utility, mining, construction, and emergency response vehicles. With the addition of this plant, there are now over 34k workers on strikeItalian aluminum casting machine maker, IDRA, known for supplying Tesla's innovative 'gigapresses', has expanded its customer base to include Ford and Hyundai. As carmakers increasingly explore this advanced manufacturing technique, IDRA is also nearing a significant deal with a premium European automaker, signaling a shift in vehicle production methods.Gigapresses create larger vehicle parts, streamlining production by reducing assembly steps. This enhances efficiency, cuts labor costs, and potentially improves structural integrity by minimizing joints and seams.A 'gigapress 6,100' with Ford's branding and IDRA's largest press, the 9,000, are being tested, with the latter set to be shipped to Hyundai for R&D.IDRA has already shipped 14 presses to Tesla, including two 9,000 ones for Tesla's large cybertruck production at its Austin plant, Texas, according to sources and posts by Tesla on social media.Six gigapresses are now emerging as the standard for an annual production of 500,000 vehicles, one source added.ASOTU's coverage of NAMAD is brought to you by TrueCarHosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email ASOTU Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/automotivestateoftheunion

Governor Greg Abbott has followed through with his promise to call the Texas Legislature back for a third time - at the very least - in his effort to push through his deeply unpopular plan to redirect millions of taxpayer dollars to private schools - many of them with church ties - at the expense of the public schools those dollars were collected to support. School vouchers have been defeated over, and over, and over for decades in Texas - WHY is the Governor so dead set on something almost nobody, save the minority of well-off Texans already opting for private education, wants at all? We try to answer that question, and measure the potential for resistance, with a special talk featuring Texas Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa, Patty Quinzi of the Texas chapter of the American Federation of Teachers, and Dr. Chloe Latham Sikes of IDRA - the Intercultural Development Research Association. The session starts Monday October 9 - the time to express your opposition to school vouchers to your elected representatives in Austin is NOW. Thanks for listening! Dear listeners, I have a tale for you!! It was one of the best/worst thing to happen to me delivered by our sweet Mother Nature. I had been planning a camping trip for 1 whole year with a high school buddy (who only knows me only as a metalhead, shhhhhh......). He had never been to the mid-west, in any place like South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, or Idaho. I had, but for work-related travel, which was a soul sucking endeavor and left me devoid of any potentially wonderful life altering experiences. Our plan went from imagining to planning, and would take us to The Badlands, Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore, the Black Hills, Devil's Tower, Bighorn National Forest, Yellowstone Park, and beyond. It was going to be fantastic. I bulked up some snivel camping gear and I was ready. Imagine that: me, a sissy novice camper, eating barbaric foods over a fire and having a flexible agenda while listening to nature at night in a tiny tent. What could go wrong? We didn't bother to plan more than a day in advance, just in case we liked something so much we decided to explore it more. How exciting!! The first day after flying into Rapid City, SD was the Badlands. We hiked all over it, went places where we probably should not have (including into a buffalo field about a mile's walk from our car, how very wise) and spent about 12 hours there. It was blissful! That night, we set up camp at a very basic campsite. I was awoken in the morning at about 2:30 to hear some distant thunder and some very light sprinkling that lasted about 30 minutes. Perfect. In the morning, the sweet breezes dried everything flawlessly. This is how it is all going to be. Or so I thought. After another few days, we were succeeding, and confident. Nothing could defeat us! On the 3rd night, we set up camp at a popular chain camping place with great amenities and were nice and comfortable. We didn't even bother to see if it was going to rain. Like I said before, what could go wrong? Well, yeah, dear listener, I found out how wrong it could really go for us. I was awoken that night at around 1:30, and there was a torrential downpour above us. Not only that, it sounded as though the wind was whipping at about 300 miles per hour, and massive hailstones were pummeling my tent. There were flashes of lightning that seemed like a thousand suns happening every 10 seconds and thunderclaps with deafening roars. Not gonna lie, I was extremely petrified. I could hear by buddy sneezing non-stop in his tent during it all (we were under pine trees, he has a very bad allergy) that multiplied my fear because I knew that the end is near! It lasted for 2 hours, and I buried my head within my sleeping bag and wondering why I thought that it was wise to sleep under a lightning rod, uh, I mean a tree, and planning my escape to the car at a moment's notice if needed. Dear listeners, I was relegated to the fetal position and turning back into the sissy camper that I really was. I was indeed back at square one. When we woke in the morning, we had to carefully pack (after shaking out) all of our drenched gear and drove 5 hours to a hotel that was gracious enough to permit usage of a private room in which to completely dry out our gear. Dear listener, I made promise to Mother Nature that I would use my fortune of survival against the elements to create a session in the volume of the Camping Under The Stars series. I could only happily oblige. Even though Mother Nature can be comforting and offer serenity and peace, she also exists to put us in our places. She provides a balance of awareness, and offers us sanctuary. Remain cognizant of her beauty and power, respect her intentions, use this session to overcome your challenges, and invigorate your senses with monumental breakthroughs. Make the time to exercise your new mental awareness and gain a new appreciation and respect for Mother Nature in all of her beauty. Shameless plug time!! The very last song is an original song of mine that will be released on an upcoming album (waiting on one last song to be mastered). You can find my music at https://www.tonepoet-music.com Another very last thing, I did record a few sounds from this crazy camping trip and posted them to the app White Noise (I'm not affiliated with them, and I'm not endorsing anything, I just use the app). You can find those sounds HERE. Today I talked to Idra Novey about her new novel Take What You Need (Viking 2023). Leah, her husband, and their little son are driving back to where she grew up in the mountains of Appalachia. They are heading to the home where her stepmother fled after leaving Leah's father, and after the divorce, Jean was no longer allowed to stay in touch with Leah. But she was the mother Leah knew and loved. Now, Jean has died and left Leah her artwork, and when they arrive at the house, Leah is stunned to find giant sculptures welded from scrap metal. During her final years, Jean had needed the help of a troubled young man, a neighbor who has no chance of finding employment and who is squatting without water in the house next door. He's the one who tells Leah that Jean has died. This is a story about family, the opioid epidemic in rural America, the rise of hatred and bigotry during the past few years, and the grip of creating art on those who feel its pull. Idra Novey earned degrees at Barnard College and Columbia University. She's the author of Those Who Knew, a finalist for the 2019 Clark Fiction Prize, a New York Times Editors' Choice, and a Best Book of the Year with over a dozen media outlets. Her first novel Ways to Disappear received the 2017 Sami Rohr Prize, the 2016 Brooklyn Eagles Prize, and was a finalist for the L.A. Times Book Prize for First Fiction. Her poetry collections include Exit, Civilian, selected for the 2011 National Poetry Series, The Next Country, a finalist for the 2008 Foreword Book of the Year Award, and Clarice: The Visitor, a collaboration with the artist Erica Baum. Idra teaches fiction writing at Princeton University and in the New York University MFA program in Creative Writing. When she is not writing or teaching, Idra likes welding and making collages with old literature magazines. Learn more about your ad choices. Gloria gets a lesson on the nationwide effort to censor classroom discussions on racism and inequality from Morgan Craven and Ben Hodge. First, Morgan, the director of Policy, Advocacy, and Community Engagement with the Intercultural Development Research Association, debunks some of the misinformation about what is being taught in our public schools. Then, Ben, a teacher at Central York High School in Pennsylvania, tells the story of what happened at his school when an all-white school board tried to ban over 300 books written by and about people of color. Plus, Morgan shares a shocking statistic on corporal punishment in schools. This podcast is presented by Neighborhood Villages, and is brought to you with generous support from Imaginable Futures, Care For All Children by the David and Laura Merage Foundation, and Spring Point Partners.
