For Part 2 of our Summer Rep Report, film programmer Jessica Green joins to discuss Passing You By: Impostorism on Film, a new series she's programmed titled at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The series opens today and runs through August 15 and focuses on movies that all explore the act of passing—be it for another race, gender, class, or nationality.  Film Comment editors Clinton Krute and Devika Girish spoke with Jessica about some of the highlights from the lineup, including Rebecca Hall's Passing (2021), which adapts Nella Larsen's 1920s novel of the same name; Oscar Micheaux's silent-cinema classic, The Symbol of the Unconquered (1920), which was made in response to The Birth of a Nation (1915) and now features a score recorded by Max Roach; Omar (2013), a Palestinian film by director Hany-Abu Assad; as well as some lighter, yet thematically rich fare, like White Chicks (2004) and Coming to America (1988).

This is a really special episode for me, because today we are celebrating 6 months of the Mystic Dog Mama podcast, and 6 months of growing this beautiful community together! In this special episode, I have created a compilation. If you've been with me for a while, you'll know that I ask all of my guests what dogs have taught them about what it means to be human. The answers are so profound and beautiful, and they offer a real opportunity to reflect on who we are as individuals, and who we aspire to be. I've brought all of my guests' answers to this particular question together in this episode, so you can hear them again in one timeline. I hope you enjoy hearing the breadth and depth of their responses. I've listed everyone in the time stamps below, so you can see the speaking order. When I first decided to create the podcast, I set the intention that this would be a safe space to bring people together to talk about what nourishment for our dogs, ourselves, and the planet could look like. But, I never imagined that this little corner of the internet could create such a sense of home for myself, and for those of you joining me in this journey. We live in a strange time-space continuum that can be so divisive, and so alienating. It's such a testament to the canine spirit that a little 10lb chihuahua walked into my life, and became the catalyst for creating such a beautiful community. I am grateful to each and every one of my guests, and each and every one of you listening. This means the world to me to have you and your pups walking the spiritual path alongside me and Lucky. A quick note that this episode was sponsored by Aspirationery, which, in full transparency, is another project of mine where we create books, notebooks, and stationery to help you become all you aspire to be. "Make sure you pay your taxes; otherwise you can get in a lot of trouble.” I did not write that title.  It is a quote from President Richard Nixon.  The other quote I was thinking of using for a title was by Albert Einstein "The Hardest Thing in the World to Understand is Income Tax.”  That one is amusing because of course, Albert Einstein was a genius and if he thought it was hard to understand, what hope do the rest of us have?   Well there is hope.  And her name is Jessica Green!  Jessica is the managing director of Green Tax and Business Advisors.     Jessica has a Master in Business with focus in Accounting and has over 15 years of experience in business strategy and has been doing tax preparation, tax strategy, and accounting for over eight years. She enjoys solving complex tax problems and designing strategies to take the tax burden off her clients' shoulders and believes all clients should be served with the highest levels of accuracy, professionalism, and customer service.    We discuss many common issues that affect Real Estate Agents and Investors.  Imagine if you will:  You are a real estate agent.  You sell a house and make a $15,000 commission.  There is no withholding, and that money is going to burn a hole in your pocket.  Jessica can help you take the proper deductions and reduce your tax liability, and just as important she can help you plan for the eventual tax bill you will have to pay.     As Ben Franklin said: "In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.”   We are very glad to have net Jessica, we are glad she is a Signature Preferred Vendor and member of our Vendor & Affiliate Network.  And we hope you enjoy this episode as much as we enjoyed making it.   For more information or to contact Jessica please click here: https://greentaxandbusinessadvisors.com Have an idea for a podcast? Jessica Green has a podcast with Cam Harless. They are “The Mad Ones”, an absurdist comedy duo talking about what happened in politics each week and other silly things. Each episode is sprinkled with “white pill” humor based on the fact that the government is exposing itself as a giant monster, which makes spreading truth and anarchy easier. Give them a listen live on Wednesday nights at 10 pm EST. Jessica herself can be found on Twitter as @soupcanarchist.   In this episode, Jessica joins us to talk about emergency preparedness. Jessica got into this realm herself in 2014 when she got trapped in her apartment by a freak snowstorm in Atlanta with basically no food. Since then, she has moved out to the country, started stocking canned food, gotten chickens, started a garden, and began learning how to live off the land so she will never have to depend on government assistance (which usually proves to be too little too late).    Are you ready for an unexpected event? Look at what happened in Texas, where it never snows. We don't know what's going to happen tomorrow. There are forces outside of our control that directly affect us daily (weather, financial markets, civil unrest, governmental decrees…). We need to learn survival skills and be ready to come together with our communities so we can get through whatever crisis may come. This episode is a good place to start; Jessica is here to teach us how to take small steps every week that lead to our survival.   Blog submissions: thebadroman.com/contribute-to-the-blog   Connect with us on social: thebadroman.com/social-links   Want to get more involved?
