Flint on the Brink is a clear-eyed examination of an American rust-belt city struggling to decide who controls its future. In this episode, former Michigan prosecutor and legal educator Arthur Busch reads and expands on his essay Flint on the Brink: How Broken Systems, Billion-Dollar “Saviors,” and Flint-First Leadership Are Fighting for the City's Future. The episode explores how decades of economic decline, segregation, and institutional failure have weakened Flint's economy and its ability to govern itself and plan for what comes next. But Flint's story is not only one of collapse. It is also a story shaped by powerful outside actors, fparticularly large philanthropic institutions that have poured enormous sums of money into the city. While philanthropy has funded important programs, cultural institutions, and physical improvements, it has also created an unhealthy dependence on a small number of private funders to support basic city functions, including at times police and fire services. When grants substitute for sound taxation, budgeting, and public accountability, structural problems are masked rather than solved. The episode examines how this pattern has influenced decision-making in Flint, encouraging leaders to ask what foundations will pay for instead of what residents truly need and how those priorities should be funded. It revisits major cautionary episodes such as AutoWorld and the downtown redevelopment that followed—projects driven by optimistic studies, philanthropic money, and outside vision, but which failed to deliver lasting economic transformation and permanently removed valuable land from the tax base.At the same time, the episode acknowledges Flint's real strengths: a deep sense of community, a lower cost of living, cultural institutions. These assets matter—but only if they are woven into a realistic, locally driven vision for the future.Ultimately, Flint on the Brink argues that no foundation, state agency, or outside “savior” can substitute for accountable, Flint-first leadership. Public money and philanthropy can help repair damage and support good plans, but civic confidence and self-governance must come from within. The city's future depends on leaders willing to level with residents about hard truths, right-size infrastructure, confront segregation, and insist that decisions affecting Flint are made by people answerable to Flint voters. This episode is part of The Mitten Channel, a Michigan-based podcast and media network examining law, public policy, labor, and life in America's industrial communities. Send us a textWhat if prayer is less about polished words and more about a brave wrestle with a faithful God? We open that door and walk through it, exploring how real petitions meet real answers—even when those answers arrive wrapped in delays, trials, or unexpected turns. Anchored in Job 12, we challenge the reflex to judge by appearances and trace how God brings hidden things to light, exposing motives, overturning assumptions, and teaching us to see with humility instead of haste. From there, we turn to the defeat of death and the shape of hope. Death lost its power at the cross, yet we still await glorified bodies and the final public end of decay. Drawing on 1 Corinthians 15, Hebrews 2:14, and 1 John 3:8, we talk about the already-not-yet tension of the Kingdom: Christ has broken the works of the devil, we are being sanctified in the present, and the promise of resurrection steadies daily faithfulness. This is not escapism; it is courage fueled by a future that is certain.History comes into view next: God enlarges nations and brings them low, confounding expectations and humbling leaders. We revisit Daniel's image and the stone cut without hands to show why the Kingdom of God is not a distant dream but a present reality advancing even now. That perspective reframes politics, anxiety, and identity—we are citizens of a better country, held by a King who cannot fail. And because the Spirit seals what Christ has purchased, assurance rests on God's unchanging character, not our shifting performance. So we store Scripture in our hearts, speak when prompted, and trust that what God binds, no one can loose. If you're hungry for a faith that prays boldly, thinks biblically, and lives under a sovereign Hand, this conversation will meet you where you are and invite you deeper. Send us a textStart with the root, and the whole tree makes sense. We anchor in Job 12:16—“with God is strength and wisdom; the deceived and the deceiver are His”—and watch how that single claim reshapes our view of truth, power, suffering, and hope. From there, the chapter peels back the illusion of control: counselors are stripped, judges look foolish, kings are unbelted, and princes are led away spoiled. These reversals are not chaos; they're clarity. God's power and wisdom never come apart, never stall, and never miss.We talk honestly about the hard parts: reprobation, justice, and the unsettling fact that God governs even deception while remaining holy. That tension isn't a glitch—it's the backbone of providence. If God only winds the clock, we're stuck with our fears. If He rules all things without sin, then even storms serve His glory and our good. That's why Job's theology doesn't numb the heart; it steadies it. For weary believers, this isn't theory. It's oxygen. Trials pass, and they leave a sanctifying edge. Pride bends. Faith stands taller. We also challenge rival loyalties. Nations matter, but they're not our home. Policies shift, markets swing, and strongmen promise safety they can't deliver. The text frees us from civil religion by fixing our eyes on a King who reigns now, not later. Christ humbles the proud, lifts the lowly, and keeps His people when worldly power postures. If you've felt crushed by headlines or hollowed by disappointment in leaders, come hear why sovereignty is not a cold doctrine but a warm shelter. Send us a textPower can look like blessing, but Scripture warns us to slow down and test what we see. We trace Job's stark language—God removing speech from the trusted and understanding from elders—to show why sovereignty never equals endorsement. From Pharaoh to Nebuchadnezzar to Rome, God has raised rulers who opposed Him, yet He bent their plans to serve His own. That lens frees us from the myth that political momentum measures spiritual health and helps us hold the line when charisma and crowd size try to pass for truth. We share personal moments of answered prayer, push back on the urge to read prosperity as approval, and unpack why Christ's humiliation under corrupt authority was not a detour but the very road of redemption. His kingdom is not fragile; it is steady, present, and advancing by the Word. That's why we confront false teaching—like claims of angelic mediation—with clarity and conviction. Love for people means honesty about doctrine. We call out analysis paralysis, naming fear as the culprit behind our silence, and offer a simple path to readiness: stay close to Scripture, pray with purpose, pursue fellowship, and speak when the Spirit nudges. You'll hear a candid critique of political idolatry and the way allegiance to leaders can eclipse loyalty to Jesus. We don't deny the weight of public life; we refuse to worship it. The takeaway is simple and demanding: trust the God who appoints and removes, measure teaching by the Bible, and stand for truth even when it costs. If you've felt the tug to speak but hesitated, this conversation will steady your heart and sharpen your voice. If this resonates, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs courage today, and leave a review to help others find these conversations. Your reflections shape what we explore next—what truth will you stand for this week?Support the showBE PROVOKED AND BE PERSUADED!
Send us a textPower dazzles, but truth steadies. We open with Job's clear view of how God raises and lowers rulers, then bring that lens to modern platforms and hype. When the search for “good” turns outward, we end up disappointed; when we look to what God is doing in, through, and for His people, confidence returns. That theme anchors a wider conversation about discernment, courage, and the quiet force of prayer. We press into a common confusion: public zeal can mask private error. Bold tone, viral clips, and charitable headlines don't sanctify false teaching. Together we test a high-profile claim that angels mediate between people and God against the plain witness of Scripture: there is one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus. Adding middlemen dilutes grace and steals glory from the Son. Stories from our community bring it home—a VP humbled by a simple confession of allegiance to God, a new believer leaving old traditions, and the relief that comes from unfollowing voices that twist truth. We also revisit inherited frameworks and ask sharper questions. What truly changed at the cross? If Satan is not bound in any real sense, what victory do we preach? The New Testament points us back to the finished work of Christ, where power was disarmed and access was opened. That center reshapes how we think about politics, platforms, and timelines. And beneath it all, prayer carries the mission. The loudest microphone isn't our engine; the faithful intercessor is.If you're hungry for a steadier way to navigate noisy leaders and tangled doctrines, this conversation will help you test everything by Scripture, speak when the Spirit nudges, and rest in Christ alone. If it resonates, subscribe, share it with a friend, and leave a quick review so more people can find their footing.Support the showBE PROVOKED AND BE PERSUADED!

A year before the midterms, quarterly fundraising reports are already reshuffling expectations and causing some candidates to drop out. And candidates are spending almost as much raising money as they collect. That's because in congressional primaries and general elections, the top fundraiser still wins 92 percent of the time. Danielle Thomsen finds that candidates are raising money earlier and in larger amounts than ever. And everything from who runs for office to who rules in Congress is now governed by money, even though most of the value is in signaling rather than actually using it to communicate with voters.

In 1995, the world turned its attention to Beijing as thousands gathered for the Fourth World Conference on Women – an event that produced the landmark Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. Nearly three decades later, its legacy continues to inform gender equity movements around the world. What has its impact been within China, particularly in spaces where women are still underrepresented, such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics? In an interview conducted on May 29, 2025, Yangyang Cheng and Gina Tam join Abigail Coplin for a conversation that connects past momentum with present realities, exploring the roles women in China have played – and continue to play – in advancing national development. Episode 4644: 16 Year Plan To Destroy America; Who Actually Governs You
How did Heath end up calling an election on the question of who governed the country? Especially as the choice he seemed to be offering was between him and the minders. This episode traces the impact of two major shocks, the ending of Bretton Woods in 1971 and the oil shock of 1973, combined with the inflation that followed a last Tory attempt to manufacture a boom from Keynesian economics, that drove Heath to that decision. It also shows how all this led to the unravelling of the postwar consensus, particularly on economic policy, and the emergence of a new, radical current in the Conservative Party seeking to replace the consensus by a new departure in economic thinking. When Heath, having lost the February 1974 election, lost the next one, in October, too, the pressure against him became irresistible. He called a leadership election for early 1975. The self-destruction of the campaign of the initial darling of the right, Sir Keith Joseph, opened the door to the first possible ascent to leadership of a major British party by a woman. The brilliant election tactics of Airey Neave, ex-intelligence operative, ensured that she achieved it.Illustration: A Tory leader and his successor: Ted Heath and Margaret Thatcher. It's regarded by many as the most useful AI forecasting work in years.Beth has found models can already do “meaningful work” improving themselves, and she wouldn't be surprised if AI models were able to autonomously self-improve as little as two years from now — in fact, “It seems hard to rule out even shorter [timelines]. The Divine Council is a central Old Testament teaching. I would argue that much of the Old Testament doesn't even make sense unless one grasps this concept. In a recent message on Zechariah 6, which itself is a Divine Council passage (revealing the outcome of a Divine Council meeting), I reviewed two of the most important Divine Council passages in the Old Testament: 1 Kings 22 and Psalm 82.Due initially to the abandonment of this teaching by the rabbis around the year 100AD, and for Augustine's influence later, the Divine Council concept has been at best ignored and at worst utterly rejected.Thankfully, in recent years, there seems to have been a recovery of this truth.
A @Christadelphians Video: Description: The wisdom from above is pure. It is the word of God which abides forever and God, through His word, will mould and develop His character in those who seek Him.# SummaryThe PRESENTATION focuses on the theme of "Faith in Action," exploring how faith influences our actions towards others. It highlights the importance of being doers of the word rather than mere hearers, emphasising that genuine faith manifests through actions, particularly in serving others and demonstrating love. The speaker draws on examples from the Bible, such as Abraham and Rahab, to illustrate that both faith and works are essential in the believer's life. The presentation concludes with a call to embody pure religion by caring for the needy and maintaining a life that reflects Christ's love.
Enterprise AI is rapidly evolving from a decision-support tool to an autonomous decision-maker, fundamentally changing how businesses operate. Just as human metabolism regulates energy for sustainable growth, AI has its own metabolism of knowledge—continuously consuming, processing, and acting on data at unprecedented speed and scale. But without governance, this self-directed AI evolution can reinforce biases, create decision loops beyond human oversight, and introduce systemic risks—leading to operational inefficiencies, compliance failures, and reputational damage. How do enterprise leaders ensure AI remains explainable, aligned, and controllable—before it starts making critical business decisions on its own? In this episode, we explore the intricate role of the vagus nerve as a central regulator within the microbiota-gut-brain (MGB) axis, examining its neuroanatomical structure, signaling mechanisms, and interactions with microbial metabolites and immune pathways. We discuss how vagal afferent fibers relay sensory input from the gut to the brain, including signals mediated by short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and gut-derived hormones, and how efferent fibers modulate gut motility, intestinal barrier integrity, and inflammation through the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway. Finally, we explore vagal dysfunction as well as associated conditions and symptoms, and we touch on just a few potential root causes. Topics: 1. Introduction Focus on the vagus nerve's role in the microbiota-gut-brain (MGB) axis. Bidirectional communication between the brain and microbiota. Overview of communication pathways: neural (e.g., vagus nerve), endocrine (e.g., HPA axis), immune (e.g., cytokines), and metabolic (e.g., SCFAs). 2. Overview of the Nervous System The CNS includes the brain and spinal cord - control centers for the body. The peripheral nervous system extends beyond the CNS The peripheral nervous system is divided into the somatic nervous system and the autonomic nervous system. 3. Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) and Subdivisions Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS) Enteric Nervous System (ENS) 4. The Vagus Nerve and Role in the PNS Principal component of the parasympathetic nervous system. Governs "rest-and-digest" activities Contains both afferent (80%) and efferent (20%) fibers. 5. Vagus Nerve Anatomy Fibers originate at the base of the skull and extend into the gut wall. Fibers distributed throughout the mucosa, submucosa, and beyond. Interact indirectly with gut luminal contents via specialized gut cells, including EECs and immune cells. 6. Interaction with Intestinal Cells Enteroendocrine cells (EECs) release gut hormones in response to microbial metabolites. SCFAs, such as butyrate, activate free fatty acid receptors on EECs, stimulating vagal afferents. Immune cells within the gut wall modulate vagal signals during inflammatory responses. 7. Review of Functions Sensory input (afferent fibers): Detects gut-derived signals like microbial metabolites and mechanical stretch. Motor output (efferent fibers): Regulates gut motility, secretion, immune responses, and more. 8. Impact of a Diverse Microbiome on Vagal Activity Enhanced SCFA production boosts vagal activity. SCFAs improve gut barrier integrity, reduce systemic inflammation, and assist in regulating stress responses. 9. Examples: Intestinal Barrier Function Releases acetylcholine (ACh) to modulate inflammatory pathways. Helps enhance tight junction protein expression, preserving gut barrier integrity. Helps prevent the translocation of microbial endotoxins like LPS into systemic circulation. 10. Dysfunction of the Vagus Nerve Reduced vagal tone disrupts gut homeostasis. Conditions such as IBS, IBD, chronic fatigue syndrome, anxiety, depression, and POTS. Chronic stress, infections, and dysbiosis are common contributors. 11. Root Causes 12. Tying Back to the HPA Axis Low vagal tone is associated with increased HPA axis activity. Highlighting the interplay between the gut, brain, and stress response systems. 13. Conclusion Identifying potential root causes. Contributing lifestyle factors. An upcoming hearing on the future of the Warren v. Chico settlement agreement may be rescheduled if the court determines a need to hear oral arguments in the case. This comes after the city of Chico filed a motion in federal court asking that it be excused from certain provisions under the agreement. The mine has been leaking toxic amounts of pure acid into nearby streams for decades, and California's Sustainable Ground Water Management Act was enacted 10 years ago.

If you want to connect to the Universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.” as Nicolai Tesla said. We have to break through the denser vibrations that are coming at us from the lower vibratory types and channels. Chanting in Sanskrit is an ancient Vedic practice sometimes in modern times referred to as the “Yoga of Sound.” Sanskrit Mantras are sacred sound formulas that shift our spiritual physiology. They clear blockages internally and externally, allowing us to be more receptive to our good. By removing obstacles, known or unknown, in our body, mind and energetic fields, Sanskrit Mantras change our frequency so we become more magnetic to our good both on the material plane, as well as activating our soul powers and receiving spiritual fruits.1) EIM (I'm): Seed (bija) mantra to Saraswati, goddess of creative wisdom and divine knowledge.2) OM EIM SARASWATIYEI SWAHA (Ohm I'm Sara-swa-tee-yay Swa-ha): The foundation or mula mantra to Saraswati, goddess of divine wisdom. At the root of our sin is not a mind ignorant of God's ways, but a darkened love, a hardened heart, and a will bent away from God's ways.
India has reelected Narendra Modi as prime minister, making him only the second leader in India's history to have secured a third term. But Indian analysts call the results a shock because Modi's party lost at least 20 percent of its parliamentary seats, forcing him to rely on a coalition. As Nick Schifrin reports, that could affect how Modi will govern after 10 years in power. PBS NewsHour is supported by - https://www.pbs.org/newshour/about/funders
