Some of you know Dylan Louis Monroe from his work on what he calls the Deep State Mapping Project, where he’s put his artistry and creativity to work to develop detailed visual artworks that explain the many connections among the “deep state”, the Q Web, as he calls it. But he’s also produced some other similar diagrams along those same lines, two of which we’ll dig into here, the Cult of Baal and the Healing Web. This one does take a bit to really get going, because we cover off on some of Dylan’s personal background up front, but once we get going, we gone. I would recommend pulling open the show notes and following along with the diagrams as we talk about them, if you’re able to. Or, at the least, giving them a visit when you have more time to dissect and digest them, because they really are pieces of Art. The one and only Occult Fan, aka Nathan Lee Miller Foster, is back in the house for a third time. Nathan Lee is a musician, writer at OccultFan.com, and host of the Six of Swords podcast, and we are going to dig deep into a piece of art that was forged by four of the most marvelous magicians of our modern era. Collectively they are known as TOOL, one of the pre-eminent musical forces roaming the realm today. Their latest album, Fear Inoculum, is their first in 13 years. Highly anticipated by both fans and critics alike, and from the sounds of things, was well worth the wait. But this is not a critical review of that album. This is a complete and total thematic deconstruction of what this album is about, song by song, image by image, even tweet by tweet, because this is a band that has become known for their meticulousness. Every riff, every polyrhythm, every lyric, every liner note, every visual set piece associated with their musical catalog is carefully curated and then deeply dissected by their fanbase, for better or for worse, but always in good fun and good faith. Nathan Lee and I did this way back in episode 35 for another album by the band, so we figured, why not do it again and share it with all of you? Because, when we started to dig into this from a thematic standpoint, we found such a rich message laced with both apt cultural commentary and poignant interpersonal insight. It’s both a warning and a prescription, as any piece of good art is, and whether you know the band or not, or whether you’ve heard the music or not, it’s all kind of irrelevant for the purposes of this discussion, unless you want to completely comprehend all of Nathan Lee’s references that stem from his extensive knowledge of the band and their history. Phil Hall is the author of, among other titles, a book called The Weirdest Movie Ever Made: The Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot Film. Phil is a film writer whose work has appeared in The New York Times, New York Daily News and Wired, and he is the host of the podcast “The Online Movie Show with Phil Hall”, which is available on SoundCloud. What Phil has done in this book is look at the Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot film from a technical filmmaking standpoint and as a cinematic and cultural artifact. He also looks at the men who made the film and the details of their story before, during and after their infamous Bigfoot footage became a meme. We’re not too interested, for the purpose of this discussion, in the “authenticity” of the film. Whether the footage is real or a hoax doesn’t matter. Because this is a piece of art whose impact can be felt beyond belief systems. At the end of the day this is just a film, a movie. And as Phil says, it’s perhaps the weirdest movie ever made. Alan Abbadessa is one of the minds behind TheSyncBook.com, a multimedia web platform dedicated to nurturing and exploring the art of synchronicity. If you’ve ran in these circles online long enough you’ve surely come across their books or videos or podcasts. Alan is here to talk about one of The Sync Book’s latest projects, a docu-series he’s producing called Hindsight 20/20, the first episode of which is online now. It’s called 9/11 Spider-verse, and it explores a cinematic world where 9/11 conspiracy theories are just the tip of the iceberg. This episode is going to spider out and spiral out from 9/11 and explore the legacies of the Loose Change and Zeitgeist films as well as the synchromystic subculture and post-postmodern artistic movement these films may have spawned. One note on the chat from a sound quality perspective. Alan’s computer was out of commission, so we had to record via phone, plus we just recorded this on Monday, September 9, and I wanted to turn this around quickly because of the subject matter, so I did not edit nearly as much in post-production as I normally do. Bob Frissell is the author of, among other things, “Nothing in This Book Is True, But It’s Exactly How Things Are”, which was just re-released with a 25th anniversary edition. Bob’s work is something I stumbled upon several years ago, and this book was pretty instrumental in shaping the young, inquisitive mind I had at the time. Bob’s book is considered an underground classic in the realm of metaphysics and spirituality, and it explores everything from higher consciousness and human evolution to sacred geometry, the secret government, UFOs, Atlantis and so much more. We’re not going to get too metaphysical though, so if you’re here for UFO and Atlantis talk, this is not for you. This chat is more about the topics that more directly affect our everyday lives and how we can continue on the path of positive personal transformation. Aaron French has written what he says is the first academic paper focused on one of the most batshit theories any of us have ever heard of. His paper is called “The Mandela Effect & New Memory” and was recently published by the academic journal Correspondences: Journal for the Study of Esotericism. Aaron’s paper looks at this recent phenomenon and why it’s become such a popular conspiracy theory and Internet meme, and how it sheds light on our contemporary technoscience culture and the influence of advanced information technology on human cognition, memory, and belief, and aspects of the Mandela Effect that are familiar to esotericism, since both conspiracy theories and esoteric knowledge cohabit the same marginalized cultural space. Aaron is also an accomplished academic and has written many pieces of weird fiction, some of which we’ll talk about in the Patreon extension. Erik Davis is back in the house for a second time to rap a bit about his latest book High Weirdness: Drugs, Esoterica and Visionary Experience in the Seventies. No matter how you know Erik, you know he is the sultan of high strangeness, and High Weirdness may just be his magnum opus, which is saying quite a bit if you’ve read his previous work. High Weirdness charts the emergence of a new psychedelic spirituality that arose from American countercultural voices of the 1970s, including Philip K Dick, Terence McKenna and Robert Anton Wilson. Janaka Stucky is a mystic poet, performer, and founding editor of the award-winning press Black Ocean. He’s here to talk about his latest book of poetry, Ascend Ascend, recently released by Jack White’s publishing imprint, Third Man Books. Ascend Ascend was written over the course of twenty days, coming in and out of trance states brought on by intermittent fasting and somatic rituals while Janaka secluded himself in the tower of a 100-year-old church. The book is rooted in the Jewish mystical tradition of merkabah literature, chronicling an ascent up the kabbalistic sefirot. Janaka noted in his description of the book that traditional merkabah prose tends to be rather dry and focused on preparations for the journey while sort of avoiding descriptions of the experience itself. But Ascend Ascend skirts that norm and Janaka instead has chosen to document the entire journey, which he describes as the ecstatic destruction of the self. Michael Joseph is back in the house for the third time to wade into the deep end of his most recent YouTube series that centers around a conflict that he describes as the Old versus the New World Order in relationship to a Catholic or Universal doctrine. And that phrase, New World Order, conjures many ideas and images, but with it comes a question not asked by many: if there’s a New World Order, what then is the Old World Order? And that is a question Mike has sought to answer, and it’s an answer that will spiral out in directions that question the occult and esoteric doctrines we’re all familiar with, and it examines where they may have came from, who may be the true authors of them, and what secret doctrine they might be trying to impart onto us, the profane masses. That chat focused primarily on the Fabian Society and their brand of socialism and how it has shaped, or helped shape, modern society and the culture of abuse that seems to have grown up in it. This time around, Jasun is going to dig a bit deeper into the role occultism plays in this, particularly the brand of occultism made popular by Aleister Crowley. We also touch on the left-hand path as social engineering, and Crowley’s influence on Timothy Leary and Wicca. It is quite a thought-provoking chat, so make of it what you will. Pun intended. Of course, any healthy discourse and discussion is encouraged. Nikki Wyrd is in the house. This chat was inspired by a lecture she gave at the Occulture conference in Berlin last fall on age-old magic and ways to approach death. It was an appropriate theme there, because of the time of the year, and I still think it’s appropriate here in the northern hemisphere because we’re right in the middle of winter, which, if you deal with such seasons, you get it. And it’s also appropriate considering recent space weather. That astrology’s been crazy recently, especially with that recent lunar eclipse. Lot of things changing, lot of things evolving, lot of things ending, lot of things dying. Such is the cycle of life. Nikki doesn’t do a lot of podcasts these days, from what I’ve seen anyway, so for her to make some time for us was much appreciated. And hopefully the content and context of the chat resonates with some of you out there. Jasun Horsley is the author of The Vice of Kings: How Socialism, Occultism and the Sexual Revolution Engineered a Culture of Abuse. He returns to the podcast for another conversation after rattling a few cages back in episode 90. But that is exactly why I asked him back. I want to rattle some cages every now and then. I think that’s necessary. And the title is quite reflective of the content of the book and the content of this conversation. We are going to chat a bit about Jasun’s family history, which has ties to the Fabian Society and their socialist ideals and subsequent cultural movement, which may be the driving force behind the idea known as social engineering. We also talk about the role of occultism in this. One note, though. We had to cut this way shorter than we both probably would have liked, because Jasun’s schedule changed on the day of the interview. So a bit of a shorter show here both on Patreon and the free feed. Although there is a Patreon extension of about 22 minutes, which is where we talk a bit about the role the sexual revolution played, or plays, in this culture of abuse. Jeff Nixa is a shamanic practitioner, teacher and author of The Lost Art of Heart Navigation: A Modern Shaman’s Field Manual. In 2010 he founded Great Plains Shamanic Programs, an array of counseling, healing and education services, including one-on-one fire talks, seminars, university classes, outdoor retreats, and wilderness trips. In this chat Jeff and I are going to dig a bit into what is known as the heart path and that lost art of heart navigation. Basically, that’s taking wisdom from ancient shamanic traditions and using it to teach ourselves how to follow our heart so we live a more fulfilling life. And despite what I just said about my personal new year celebration, I think it’s a great chat for this time of year when many of us are looking to make some changes in our lives. And it is a great companion to the last episode of 2018 about the forgotten art of love. I was under the weather a bit when we recorded this. I think I had a bit of what Jeff calls hurry sickness. Just working myself into a state of dis-ease. Regardless, this conversation is - well, it’s fucking poetry on tape, I think. Yeah, I said tape. It’s the last show of 2018, and this year-end show has somehow developed a theme of what we call in my hood, real talk. Last year I chatted with a man named Gilbert Bates about love, the three levels of consciousness, primal pain and primal therapy, which got a tremendous response. So with that in mind we return to the subject of love to close out the Gregorian calendar year that has been 2018. Our guest for this one is Dr. Armin Zahdeh, who published a book in 2017 called The Forgotten Art of Love: What Love Means and Why It Matters. Armin is a cardiologist and professor at Johns Hopkins University. He has authored more than 100 scientific articles and is an editor of scholarly books in medicine. Besides medicine, he has a strong interest in philosophy with a particular focus on mending its ideas with concepts from biology and sciences. In the book, Armin revisits psychologist Erich Fromm’s The Art of Loving and examines love through the lenses of biology, philosophy, history, religion, sociology, and economics to fill in critical voids in Fromm’s classic work and to provide a contemporary understanding of love and a look at its role in every aspect of human existence. There’s a lot packed into this conversation, including love as a religion, love’s similarity to creativity, what Armin thinks of polygamy and so much more. Just a raw, honest chat about love. I even said during the chat this is nothing that groundbreaking, and it really isn’t, but that’s what I like about it. It’s just real talk about the one subject that seems to continue to elude us both individually and collectively. Especially collectively. It’s been a trying year for some of you out there, and with that in mind, there is no Patreon extension here. This is the full show for everyone, so I hope by the end of it you walk away with, at least, a reminder and some reassurance. It is with certain seasonal celebrations in mind that we welcome back the one and only Dr. Al Cummins. Al, of course, is a professional diviner and historian, as well as a poet and consultant of all things magical. He was here not too long ago, back at the beginning of October in episode 105 where we talked about geomancy, cartomancy and other forbidden arts. And what a great companion piece that is to this chat that you’re about to hear. Al is going to rap about a book he published earlier this year called A Book of the Magi: Lore, Prayers and Spellcraft of the Three Holy Kings. And in the Patreon extension we’ll also get into one of those other forbidden arts - necromancy, particularly as it was practiced in 17th century England, which is a period Al has some serious interest in. Brad Warner is the author of six books, including the critically acclaimed Hardcore Zen: Punk Rock, Monster Movies and the Truth About Reality. This book put Brad on the map in the Buddhist community because of its no-nonsense, plainspoken - and maybe even outspoken - approach to zen, meditation and the nature of individual reality. In fact, Hardcore Zen actually begins with these words: “Nothing is sacred. Doubt - in everything - is absolutely essential. Everything, no matter how great, how fundamental, how beautiful or important it is, must be questioned.” So you know that yours truly - what, with my plainspoken mantra recited at the end of each episode - you know that this is right up my anti-dogmatic, anti-authoritative alley. Quite a different experience this time around. Katy Bohinc is back in the house. She was our guest in episode 71, talking about her previous book of poetry Trinity Star Trinity. She’s got a new book of poetry out now called Scorpio, which has garnered some really nice press recently. I think the poems mimic the persona of the astrological sign of Scorpio, the traits and characteristics present in those of us born from October 23 to November 21. Equal parts dramatic, nostalgic and erotic, but with a throughline of that elusive L word that you hear so much about. And this conversation with Katy, I think, mimics those same Scorpionic traits and tendencies. Some good, grounded energy running through here. But the experiential part of this is we recorded this in the car, together, a few days after Thanksgiving, so just after Scorpio season ended. Driving through rural southwest Ohio. And I think the mood of that was also captured. Of course the car recording does come with a caveat in terms of quality, so venture forth at your own listening risk. But it is Kristen’s recent book High Static, Dead Lines that forms the basis for our conversation. This book has been described as “a literary mixtape that explores the entwined boundaries between sound, material culture, landscape and esoteric belief.” The book contains essays and fictocritical interludes are arranged to evoke a network of ley lines for the “sonic spectre” to travel through—a hypothetical presence that manifests itself as an invisible layer of noise alongside the conventional histories of technological artifacts. Stefan Kiesbye is the author of the recently released novel Berlingeles, a dystopian cyberpunk story that conjures up names like William Gibson, Philip K Dick, Franz Kafka and the television series Black Mirror. Stefan teaches creative writing at Sonoma State University in Northern California and Berlingeles is his sixth novel. It’s set in a future Los Angeles that has been walled in, much like Berlin back in the day, and follows the stories of Gaz, a rising member of the city’s most notorious street gang, and a 96-year-old man known only by the letter K. Here’s a line from the synopsis of the book: “Seeking a way out of this hellish maze of sweeping slums, waves of violence, and little hope, Gaz might just have found his path to salvation, while the underworld hangs on the prophecies of blind prophet Gerut, and the rest of the lost city still smolders in the ashes of a civil war.” And a story like that, with themes like this, combined with Stefan’s background, made for quite the chat, so hopefully you take something positive from this. Happy Halloween or Samhain or Day of the Dead or whatever you may be celebrating this time of year. And we have a show that’s apropos this time around. Dacre Stoker and JD Barker are in the house. They are the co-authors of the recently released novel Dracul, the official Stoker-family endorsed prequel to the original Dracula story. Very cool, very excited to have them here for our annual Halloween episode. As you will hear in the chat, Dacre is the great grand-nephew of Bram Stoker, the author of that original Dracula story. Dacre is a former teacher and athletics coach; he even coached for Canada during the Olympics. But he’s made the transition to full-time writer and speaker. He gives presentations about Bram and Dracula, takes folks on tours of sites related to the Dracula mythos as well as the real-life inspiration for the character, Vlad the Impaler. And, along with his wife, manages the Bram Stoker Estate. JD is an international best-selling author whose work has been broadly described as suspense thrillers, often incorporating elements of horror, crime, mystery, science fiction and the supernatural. His first novel Forsaken was nominated for a Bram Stoker Award for Best Debut Novel and won a handful of others including a New Apple Medalist Award. Any occult fans out there would definitely enjoy that novel. And that Bram Stoker nomination is what led to this Dracul collaboration. Thieves in the Night deals with complex and delicate issues pertaining to human sexuality, reproduction, mental health, and gender, with a particular focus on the Faery Faith and the parallels to UFO and extraterrestrial abduction experiences. And as Josh himself notes in his intro to the book, this should be treated as a thought experiment and launching point for further discussion and debate of the paranormal, rather than objective truths. Which is an approach I can absolutely get down with. And get down with that approach Josh and I most definitely did. I remember the first time I sat down and watched Night of the Living Dead. I was 16 years old, and I rented the VHS tape, no joke, from my local video store. Around this time of year. And I was blown away by the aesthetic of the film, the black and white, the social commentary, and what I would later come to know as the zombie motif in fiction. And I’ve been - not obsessed - but heavily interested in this motif since then. And I’ve been looking for someone to chat with about it for two years now. Because not only is the zombie an integral part of horror fiction and greater pop culture, it’s an integral part for an entire sociopolitical and religious structure that emanates in Haiti. You wouldn’t know that if all you know about the zombie is from George Romero films or Walking Dead comic books. Thankfully, our guest this time, Dr John Cussans, is in the house to dig deep into the history of the zombie and tell us about something he calls the zombie complex. John is an artist, writer and educator based in London with an academic background in art history and theory, and cultural history. His work is informed by critical re-evaluations of anthropological theory in the mid 20th century, and investigates patterns of theoretical and practical convergence between contemporary art, philosophy, psychology, social movements and popular culture from a post-colonial and anti-imperialist perspective. That is the foundation for his book Undead Uprising: Haiti, Horror and the Zombie Complex, which explores the uses of Haiti as a locus for Euro-American fears about African culture and spirituality in the Americas, and their sublimation into popular horror tropes, and which forms the basis for our chat here. Our guest this time is one of the first guests to share the airwaves with me. His name is Peter Bebergal, and he’s written maybe the coolest book you’ll read this year. Actually there’s no maybe about it. It’s the coolest. It’s called Strange Frequencies: The Extraordinary Story of the Technological Quest for the Supernatural, and it’s a journey through the attempts artists, scientists, and tinkerers have made to imagine and communicate with the otherworldly using various technologies, from cameras to radiowaves to maybe even something like this here podcast. Which makes sense, because technology has been used for centuries to bridge the gap between the material and the mystical, revealing that the workshop and the séance parlor have more in common than we might think. Dr. Al Cummins is in the house to chat about some of the forbidden arts, as they were known during the Renaissance: a few different forms of divination, including geomancy, which Al is gearing up to teach here very soon. More on that after the chat. And also cartomancy, which both fascinates and excites me, probably in an unhealthy, strange sort of way. Of course, Al is a professional diviner and historian, as well as a poet and a consultant of all things magical. His approach to ritual, divination, and sorcery comes from both a long-term practice and an academic background in the history of early modern magic. And we put that background to the test at the very end of this chat. We had a little fun, and if you’re a patron, there’s something really cool in store for a couple of you here soon. It’s the first of October so you know what that means. It’s time to get a bit spooky. And who better to get spooky with than Tracy Twyman. Because I’ll tell ya, every time I listen to her talk, I get the bejesus scared out of me. She’s real, she’s raw, and she brought something fierce here. Of course, Tracy needs no introduction. She’s been here before in episode 58 to discuss her novel Genuflect and some of the wild ass ideas she threw in there. I’d recommend listening to that first if ya haven’t heard it yet. It’ll give some further context to this discussion. But not completely necessary. And the plot just continuously thickens. Or maybe it continually thickens. I still don’t have this grammar thing down. Anyway, I’ll tell you who does have the grammar thing down. William Shakespeare. Or Shack-speare. Or Shake-spears. Whoever that is, whatever that is, you can’t deny the utter brilliance of those plays and sonnets. And you can’t deny that the Shakespeare authorship mystery is one of the more intriguing cultural conundrums that we know of. But our guest this time around takes the authorship mystery and turns it up to 11. His name is Alan Green, and he’s worked for the past 15 years trying to solve not only who was Shakespeare, but what was Shakespeare. That’s resulted in one book, with two more on the way, and several videos and multimedia presentations available on YouTube. If you’re like me and you’re a fan of short stories, detective fiction and the occult, then a book like The Weiser Book of Occult Detectives is something you rush to pick up at the old brick-and-mortar. So imagine my delight when that exact book arrived unexpectedly on my doorstep one day. And imagine my further delight to see Judika Illes’ name on the front cover. Because, even if you’re not that into the occult, if you don’t know much about the people who write in this genre, Judika’s name is one you’ve seen if you’ve wandered through any bookstore. Sadly, if you’re wandering through one of those chain bookstores, her books are typically lumped into the New Age section and relegated to a dimly lit corner. But any curious bookworm will have undoubtedly seen her name at the bottom of a spine on those shelves, and that is exactly how this curious bookworm first learned the name of Judika llles. Judika is, of course, a prolific scholar, educator and author of several books of folklore, folkways, and mythology about the subjects of magic, the occult, divination, diverse spiritual traditions, witchcraft, and the paranormal. I originally reached out to her to discuss The Weiser Book of Occult Detectives, but as it turned out, that was only a drop in the old cauldron, because this chat took us in all kinds of directions. You might say it turned out to be a bit encyclopedic itself, because we wandered through many pages of the occult encyclopedia, and I think you will dig each and every one of them. Our guest this time around is Aidan Wachter, talismanic jewelry maker and author of the recently released “Six Ways: Approaches & Entries for Practical Magick”, which is the basis for our conversation here today. This book really struck me in some feel spots as I was reading through it, and you will hear a bit about why and how it did that. Six Ways is a handbook of practical sorcery and magic, as Aidan knows and works it. He says that, “Magic and sorcery have many definitions, and will have many more as we move as a species forward through time. The basic idea is that there are ways of being and interacting in the world that allow for certain kinds of communication, the production of change on both internal and external levels, and the development of what could be called 'special skills and talents'. These are psychic powers or arts, in the old usage of the word: meaning 'relative to the soul, spirit, mind'. These arts of soul, spirit, and mind come down to us in various ways. They come as full-blown systems of magic or witchcraft, as religious practices, as shamanry, as tales and ideas surviving via folklore, song, and literature.” And if you’ve been listening to the show here for a while, it should come as no surprise that that description, which comes directly from Aidan’s book, is firmly my jam, as the older kids like to say. Hey yo, so I recently chatted with Alan Brunton, the CEO of a startup called Cymatrax. Alan is planning to launch an app that scrubs white noise and bad frequencies from audio files and replaces them with better frequencies. If you know anything about the history of the podcast here or have been a listener since its inception, you’ve probably heard me talking about experimenting with frequencies myself, which I’ve done since the jump. I’ve recorded episodes at 432, 528 and now 320 Hz, as opposed to the standard 440 or 441. And Alan is approaching this app with the same sort of mentality. There’s a long history of frequency manipulation and sound weaponization against populations, some of which we’ll get into. But the intent of this chat is not to delve too deep into the history or the conspiracy of this subject, but instead to focus on a practical, modern solution to a damn near undetectable problem that affects us all, whether we realize it or not. The cult has been accused of being the inspiration for Charles Manson's 'crimes of the century', influencing the assassination of Bobby Kennedy, and being the root of the notorious Son of Sam serial killings. Formed in 1960s England, many of its members were drawn from wealthy families and aristocracy. Newspapers branded them the 'Mindbenders in Mayfair' and 'The Devil's Disciples'. Thing is, former members seem to have taken a vow of silence and secrecy. They’ve stayed hush on the group’s beliefs, rituals and closely guarded secrets, and they haven’t addressed even the most mundane of the conspiracy theories levied against them. Until now. // A lot of names on the marquee for this one, and that’s because we’re discussing the Process Church of the Final Judgment with a few folks who know a thing or two about it. First up, Neil Edwards, the director and producer and - well, he did about everything for his documentary on the Process Church. It’s called Sympathy for the Devil?, and after more than two years of screening the film, it’s finally out for mass consumption on home video, so dust off that VCR because it’s well worth the time. Neil’s film gets behind the veils of the cult known as the Process and tracks their journey from their formation in London’s prestigious Mayfair district, through wilderness experiences in Mexico, flirtations with pop royalty, and their spread stateside that resulted in them being ‘christened’ ‘one of the most dangerous satanic cults in America’. The film features contributions and insights from filmmaker John Waters, musician George Clinton, artist Genesis P-Orridge, and several renowned authors, including Gary Lachman, former guest here. It also features commentary from leading former members of the cult, including Edward Mason, who’s also in the house to deliver a ton of inside perspective on the group. And if that isn’t enough, we’re also joined by Jeff Wolfe, who blogs at SecretTransmissions.com and holds a lifelong interest in the theology and psychology of the Process. This is Jeff’s fourth appearance on the show, and he brought a slew of great questions and valuable insights, especially in the Patreon extension, where we want from a foursome, to a threesome, to just Jeff and I chatting. They have recently collaborated on a project called The Sibyls Oraculum: Oracle of the Black Doves of Africa, which is a system of divination inspired by the Libyan Sibyls, the African prophetesses of the classical world. The deck was created by Tayannah, a tarot reader and researcher of religion, esoterica, and mysticism, and drawn by Katelan, a visual artist, writer, and occultist who specializes in vintage style mixed media art and photography. This contemporary oracle pays homage to the oft forgotten African founding mothers of the sibylline traditions. Drawing on both the African and the Classical traditions, the card art is in a style reminiscent of the Libyan mosaics popular in the 1st century B.C.E. And in the deck’s accompanying guidebook, Tayannah details how to consult the oracle, providing in-depth write-ups about the meaning of each of the 44 cards and the symbolic language represented by each card’s imagery. There’s also a history of the Sibyls of the ancient world and an exploration of the continuing Sibyl tradition in North Africa today. But the framework for our conversation here comes from the true intention of the deck, which is to directly address the spiritual lessons underlying the seeker’s question, and to facilitate self-examination and decision-making, and help improve the likelihood of success and broaden the perspective of the situation. Now, we did have some audio and connection issues, so that cut this chat a bit shorter than usual. You will notice Tayannah’s connection got better about halfway through, because we had to reconnect a couple times during this call. I think we damn near tore the house down with that one. So if you haven't heard that one yet, I’d slather that across your earholes first and then come back to this one. And he's also the guy who is fresh off a rather entertaining Skeptiko appearance which left me with both a chuckle and a reminder of why I no longer listen to that podcast. Anyway, in this episode Jason and I will be chatting a bit about John Dee’s mentors and syncretic beliefs, Dee’s interest in cryptography and if the Enochian tables could be elaborate ciphers, and Jason gets really into this idea of unlocking substrate consciousness with Enochian magick, which is an interesting idea, to say the least. Mike has uncovered a potential nexus of advanced-level conspiracy and occult history that centers around both the Susquehanna River, which starts in New York state and empties into the Chesapeake Bay, as well as the 40th parallel. I should also note that due to length of this - it clocked in at 3.5 hours in total - I did not do as much post production on this as I usually do. So if you hear more breath noises or uhhs and umms than usual, I do apologize. Thomas is the author of Sorcery: The Invocation of Strangeness, self-published recently on Lulu.com, and the book focuses on magic as a real force in the world employed by powerful people, as most of us overstand by now, but it’s an honest and practical approach to defending yourself against that force. This is one of the best books on the subject I’ve read, and one of the most entertaining, because not only it is narrated by one of the most outspoken sorcerers you’ll find anywhere, it also contains a ton of awesome stories and anecdotes. And as Thomas describes himself in his Facebook profile, he has no interest in waking you up, he’s here to improve the quality of your dreaming. And hopefully after an hour (or two if you’re a patron), your dreams will be much improved. You may remember the first time earlier this year, when Carl engaged in some sonically transmitted discourse with Mitch Horowitz. A really popular, well-received episode, but one where I had some questions left unanswered from Carl’s latest book, which is aptly titled Occulture: The Unseen Forces That Drive Culture Forward. So consider this is the redux of the meta-analysis that we began back in episode 67. This is a bit of a shorter episode than most due to some unforeseen circumstances. But I will say that it is jam-packed with some of the best and most satisfying conversation I think I’ve been able to produce. And that is strictly because of Carl and his book. This one will definitely kickstart your heart chakra. It has what I can only call a great rhythm throughout. So let's rock and roll to the beat of the funk fuzz and wipe your feet really good on the rhythm rug, and if you feel the urge to freak - well you know what to do. What better way to honor this 93rd episode than by talking about the life and work of the notorious Aleister Crowley. The Great Beast himself, the wickedest man in the world, the man who’s performed more sex magick rituals than there are pages in the book we’re about to discuss, and that’s a lot of pages, folks. 705 of them in this book called Perdurabo by our guest, Dr. Richard Kaczynski. Richard is also the author of The Weiser Concise Guide to Aleister Crowley. He has been a student of the Western hermetic tradition since 1978, and has lectured internationally on these topics since 1990. His writing has appeared in numerous magazines and books, including High Times, Concordance to the Holy Books of Thelema, and The Golden Dawn Sourcebook. Richard and I are gonna essentially make our way nearly chronologically through Crowley’s life, and if you’re on Patreon you’re getting nearly two hours of show here. But if you’re not you’re only getting that first hour. And, of all the shows you want to hear in their entirety, this is the one you really don’t want to miss, because you’re only getting half the story. Joe Atwill is in the house to talk about his work on typology and weaponized anthropology, which focuses on the crucial fiction known as the New Testament as well as the works of Shakespeare, JD Salinger, Ken Kesey, George Orwell and more. Joe has a new book forthcoming called The Secret Language of Oligarchs, and this is hopefully part one of a two-part series that will lay the foundation for what is a thought-provoking journey behind the curtain that reveals a symbolic framework employed by scribes throughout history. If you’ve been here before you know we have always questioned authority, and that doesn’t just extend to the usual suspects - ya know, the government, the church, the corporations. We questions all kinds of authority. And our guest this time around has been doing exactly that, but he’s taken it a step further and turned his attention towards authorities who are part of the occulture, for lack of a better term. His name is Jasun Horsley and he’s recently published a book called Prisoner of Infinity: UFOs, Social Engineering & the Psychology of Fragmentation. And when I first came across it that title immediately hooked me and then when I read the synopsis, I sat back in my chair and said, “Well, I have to read this.” In addition to this book, Jasun has authored seven previous books with another one coming in early 2019 that builds on his work from Prisoner of Infinity. Jasun also hosts his own podcast called The Liminalist, and has a blog called Auticulture, which is a portmanteau of autism and culture. The autism portion of that is an interesting angle, and we do talk a bit about that right up front here. Really, this is one of the more interesting pieces of research I’ve read, and Jasun is one of the more interesting people I’ve met since I’ve started doing this. This conversation will ruffle some feathers. And his book will ruffle some feathers (and already has). There’s a Patreon extension here too, another 30 minutes.
