The Toy and Action Figure Museum in Pauls Valley has thousands of figures on display, including those from franchises like Marvel, DC Comics, Star Wars, and more. In this episode, we continue our conversation with Charlie Romano and Harold Hodge Jr about their new musical, Call Me From The Grave. Call Me From The Grave explores the life and myth of the legendary Blues guitar player, Robert Johnson. In Greenwood, Mississippi, a young sharecropper, Robert, dreams of becoming a Bluesman. When his loving girlfriend, Virginia, becomes pregnant, Robert puts his dreams on hold to build a life and a family with her. However, Robert's life comes crashing down when Virginia dies of complications in childbirth and their newborn son is taken into the exclusive custody of her unapproving father. Feeling he has failed as a husband, father, and a musician, Robert is at his lowest when he is approached by the Devil. Robert exchanges his soul for the music career he has always dreamt of, on the condition that he never returns home. As the years go by, Robert gains all the fame and renown that he is promised. However, after learning that the people he loves are in need back home, Robert must choose between his fame and his family. In this passage, the Apostle Paul makes one of the most extraordinary statements of this entire letter: “Do not be anxious about anything.” Anything? I can understand saying, “Don't sweat the small stuff,” but “Don't worry about anything?”It would be easy to dismiss Paul's words if he were some lofty, ivory-towered theologian. But remember, Paul was writing this letter from prison! If anybody had reason to worry, it would be him. He literally didn't know if he would survive from one day to the next. And yet, letting go of worry was how he lived–how he survived.How is that possible? Let's see if we can find some answers by looking at three questions: Where does worry come from?What does worry cost?How is worry defeated?  1.     Where does worry come from?Your culture and history and biology can set you up to be a worrier. But we all wrestle with worry because we all have problems.An expert in this field says that worry results primarily from two things: A heightened sense of vulnerability, andA diminished sense of power.We worry because we're vulnerable and exposed and we know we can't do much about it. Conversely, where there's a decreased sense of vulnerability and increased sense of power, anxiety will be lessened.This is why Pauls reminds us to “Rejoice in the Lord.” When you have entered into a relationship with Him, you have no reason to be anxious because Someone real big is with you 2.     What does worry cost?Worry causes all kinds of physical ailments. But it also leads to a “divided mind.” That's literally what the Greek word means. Worry multiplies problems actually keeping me from finding a solution.  3.     How is worry defeated? We said earlier that when you increase your sense of power, anxiety is diminished. That's why Paul tells us, “Don't worry about anything, instead pray about everything.” Pray about the big stuff. Pray about the little stuff. If something is big enough to be in your thoughts, it's big enough to pray about. Call Me From The Grave explores the life and myth of the legendary Blues guitar player, Robert Johnson. In Greenwood, Mississippi, a young sharecropper, Robert, dreams of becoming a Bluesman. When his loving girlfriend, Virginia, becomes pregnant, Robert puts his dreams on hold to build a life and a family with her. However, Robert's life comes crashing down when Virginia dies of complications in childbirth and their newborn son is taken into the exclusive custody of her unapproving father. Feeling he has failed as a husband, father, and a musician, Robert is at his lowest when he is approached by the Devil. Robert exchanges his soul for the music career he has always dreamt of, on the condition that he never returns home. As the years go by, Robert gains all the fame and renown that he is promised. If I had to choose a word to describe the stage it would be - Uncomfortable.It rained.I limped.It sandstorm-ed.I hallucinated.I slept while I walked. I slept in a bush.I chose my response. I smiled.An epic day (and a bit). I spent the vast majority of it in a place I enjoy - on my own; in my own head. There was stuff to get some clarity on. The long reflective periods of silence were healthily broken by moments with Kevin from Cumbria, the 2 Pauls (@pfarr1980 & @paulbyas ), James at CP 7 and Gary from our @ironmindinstitute team.Despite the discomfort, there was little “1st level thinking”. You know - the focus that arises as a consequence of the physical stress: “How long is left?”, “How far until the next checkpoint?” etc, etc …. outcome orientation. I've practiced the 4 Controllables Method for close on a decade and mind - body connection has become my default state - even in duress.Discomfort is the price of evolution. Therefore the capacity to endure discomfort is truly important if you desire to do more with your life. The longer we can endure the feeling of discomfort, the more time we give ourselves to organise our psychology and change our state - a true superpower. Hosted on Acast. Her prolific scholarship includes notable works such as "Hungering for America: Italian, Irish and Jewish Foodways in the Age of Migration," "The Jews of the United States, 1654 to 2000," "We Remember With Reverence and Love: American Jews and the Myth of Silence after the Holocaust, 1945–1962," and "Immigration: An American History," co-authored with Carl Bon Tempo.
