The late, great Father John Hardon shares his wisdom with us.
Fr. Eric Nicolai evokes the nature of the apostolate with young people in Opus Dei, which is entrusted to the intercession of the Archangel Raphael. It is known as the St. Raphael work. He gave this meditation at Lyncroft Centre in Toronto, on October 5, 2024. "I am the angel Raphael, one of the seven, who stand before the Lord" (Tob 12:15) Saint Raphael, whose name means "God has healed" because of his healing of Tobias' blindness in the Book of Tobit. He is the angel that heals. Our words must have that healing power, if we invoke him. Healed from anxiety and worry. Healed from selfishness. Healed really from any suffering. But that healing is in the soul, in our soul. This is why with Raphael's intercession, our words can give hope to young people. When faith and life intertwine, extraordinary conversations blossom. That's precisely what unfolded as Rafael from Orthodox Review joined Cloud of Witnesses Radio, unveiling the interplay between his deep-rooted Christian beliefs and the everyday trials one endures. His moniker, "the guy with one and a half thumbs," isn't just an intriguing tag—it's a beacon of resilience, a story that underscores how life's twists can shape our spiritual journey. Nick and Jeremy's dialogue with Orthodox Review ventured through the essence of faith, centered on Christ, and the ways in which love, drawn from sacred texts and the teachings of modern saints, anchors our actions and interactions, especially in the digital realm where understanding can sometimes be lost. The authenticity of an Orthodox Christian life—imbued with simplicity and sincerity—is not found merely within the intellectual pursuit of religion. As Raphael, Nick and Jeremy exchanged personal anecdotes, it became clear that a genuine connection with the Savior lies at the core of our existence. We delved into the potent impact of Orthodox literature on our spiritual paths, sharing stories about figures like Saint Raphael of Brooklyn, whose exemplary life and dedication to God's work have deeply influenced our personal faith. Raphael's insights into the art of making prosphora, a reflection of his commitment to tradition and spiritual practice, promise to inspire and connect with the faithful in their own culinary explorations.Wrapping up our spiritual odyssey, we discussed the importance of feeding our souls with enriching spiritual literature, just as we nourish our bodies with food. We pondered over the growth of the Orthodox Church and the profound influence of texts like the "Evergetinos" on our faith. Raphael, candidly opening up about his personal battle with arthritis, exemplified how physical challenges can mold our relationship with faith. As we concluded, we highlighted the significance of making the wisdom of the saints accessible and engaging, inviting listeners to further explore Raphael's captivating work on Orthodox Review, where the sagas of the saints come to life for today's seekers of enlightenment.Visit our friend, Raphael, over at Orthodox Review:https://www.youtube.com/@OrthodoxReviewThank you for journeying w/ the Saints with us!

With tens of thousands of pro-life Americans will be gathering to demonstrate against abortion and for the sanctity of life. EWTN will be providing live coverage of the event, featuring expert guests and in-depth analysis. For more information about how to watch or participate in the March, visit Catholic News Agency dot com. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/256561/how-to-watch-the-march-for-life-ewtn-s-complete-coverage-schedule About two-thirds of Americans support some level of government restrictions on abortion, according to a recent poll released by the Knights of Columbus. The poll, which the Knights conducted with Marist Institute for Public Opinion at Marist College, found that 66% of Americans believe that “limits should be placed on when abortion is allowed” and only 33% believe that “abortion should be allowed without any limits” when given the two options. Respondents who labeled themselves pro-life were more likely to support limits on abortion, with 91% choosing that answer. Among respondents who said they were pro-choice, 48% still believed there should be some limits on abortion. About 84% of Republicans supported some limits on abortion, as did 49% of Democrats and 66% of independents. Since the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022, more than 20 states have imposed abortion restrictions, which includes more than a dozen states prohibiting abortion in almost all circumstances. Several other states, meanwhile, have moved to expand access to abortion in the wake of Roe's repeal. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/256572/knights-of-columbus-poll-two-thirds-of-americans-support-some-abortion-restrictions After nearly 20 years without a cathedral, the Diocese of Madison, Wisconsin, announced on Wednesday that the Holy See approved one of its parishes to become a new cathedral site. Bishop Donald Hying selected a local parish, Saint Bernard, to be the future cathedral parish of the Diocese of Madison. An arson fire destroyed the diocese's cathedral, Saint Raphael Cathedral Parish, in March 2005. Saint Raphael was designated a cathedral when Madison was made a diocese in 1946, with the cornerstone of the parish having been laid in 1854. Since the arson, local parishes have taken turns hosting important events. With Saint Bernard's as the newly established cathedral, the diocese will be able to host priestly ordinations, the annual chrism Mass, and other events. Saint Bernard Church is currently being renovated before its elevation to cathedral status. The diocese expects the remodeled cathedral parish to be ready by late summer or early fall of 2025. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/256569/vatican-approves-new-cathedral-for-diocese-of-madison Today, the Church celebrates Saint Canutus, King of Denmark, who succeeded his elder brother Harold on the throne of Denmark in the year 1080. Amid the glory of his victories he humbly prostrated himself at the foot of the crucifix, laying there his diadem, and offering himself and his kingdom to the King of kings. The justice of Saint Canutus as sovereign was well known. His charity and tenderness towards his subjects made him study all possible ways to make them a happy people. During a rebellion in his kingdom, the king was surprised at church by the rebels. He confessed his sins and received Holy Communion. Stretching out his arms before the altar, he was struck down on his knees by the enemies of his Christian reign. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/st-canutus-king-of-denmark-121

The VATT is a relatively recent extension of the Vatican Observatory, which has roots dating to 1582, making it one of the oldest active astronomical observatories in the world. The observatory was re-founded in 1891 by Pope Leo XIII, who intended to reinforce the Catholic Church's support of science. Originally located near Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome, the Vatican Observatory moved to Castel Gandolfo under Pope Pius XI due to light pollution from the city. In 1981, again due to growing light pollution, the observatory launched another research center under the famously dark Arizona skies. The VATT, which is paid for by private donations, is today located on a mountaintop in rural Arizona about 200 miles southeast of Phoenix. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/255512/celebrations-planned-for-30th-anniversary-of-vatican-observatory-s-arizona-telescope Today, the Church celebrates the three Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, the only angels named in Sacred Scripture. All three have important roles in the history of salvation. Saint Michael is the "Prince of the Heavenly Host," the leader of all the angels. Saint Gabriel, whose name means "God's strength," is mentioned four times in the Bible. Most significant are Gabriel's two mentions in the New Testament: to announce the birth of John the Baptist to his father Zacharias, and the at Incarnation of the Word in the womb of Mary. Saint Raphael's name means "God has healed,” and Tobit is the only book in which he is mentioned. His office is generally accepted by tradition to be that of healing and acts of mercy. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/sts-michael-gabriel-raphael-archangels-609
La Porta | Renungan Harian Katolik - Daily Meditation according to Catholic Church liturgy
Delivered by Father Peter Tukan, SDB from Salesian Don Bosco Gerak in Labuan Bajo, Diocese of Ruteng, Indonesia. Daniel 7: 9-10.13-14; Rs psalm 138: 1-2a.2bc-3.4-5; John 1: 47-51 THE ARCHANGELS The theme for our meditation today is: The Archangels. Today the entire Church celebrates the Feast of the Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. In the Christian tradition, we know that there are archangels and angels that are generally called guardian angels. At God's throne in heaven, the heavenly creatures who guard and glorify God are called the cherubim. Those who sing: holy, holy, holy is the Lord, God of all power; heaven and earth are full of Your glory..., are called seraphim. The scriptures say that these angels have another important task, namely protecting us humans, so there is a guardian angel for each of us. For example, it is said, God will send His angels to protect you in all your ways (Psalm 91, 11). Our scriptures only give us the names of three angels, namely Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. Church tradition teaches us that they are archangels. Why are they great? Because they have big duties and have very important role in the history of salvation. Saint Michael is the prince of the heavenly host. The word “Michael” in Hebrew means: Who is like God? He led the angels in war against Lucifer and his army when they rebelled against God. In honouring Saint Michael, the Church has developed the devotion of his people's resistance to Satan and all its evil acts. Church tradition recognizes and believes in four roles of the archangel Michael: 1) resistance to Satan; 2) protection of the souls of believers from the power of the enemy, especially when approaching death; 3) being the winner for the believers; 4) bringing souls from the world before the final judgment. Saint Gabriel, in Hebrew means: the power of God. He is most famous in the scriptures about the announcement of the birth of John the Baptist and when the joyful news was given to the Virgin Mary. Christian tradition believes that Saint Gabriel was the angel who came to Saint Joseph in the dreams and visions of the shepherds. He was also the one who accompanied and strengthened Jesus during the sacred moments of death in the Garden of Gethsemane. Saint Raphael, in Hebrew means: God has healed. He is known for his healing action on Tobias as told in the book of Tobit. His important role enshrined in the Church's devotion of healing services and all acts of love. The angel Raphael is also believed to have played his role, namely at the pool of Bethesda where he stirred the water to touch the sick who rushed to get healing at the pool. Today, let us fill ourselves with deep gratitude and joy, because through the help of the Archangels, our salvation has become a reality for ourselves and for the world. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... Almighty God, through the help of the angels on Your behalf, may we grow to be more faithful in the path of perfection as taught by Jesus Christ our Lord. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit... In the name of the Father... --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/media-la-porta/message

Friends of the Rosary: Today, October 24th, is, according to the Roman Calendar of 1960, the feast day of Saint Raphael the Archangel, one of the seven Archangels who stand before the Lord. He is also one of the only three mentioned by name in the Bible, along with Gabriel and Michael (Luke 1:9–26; Jude 1:9). On September 29th, we celebrated the feast of the three of them. Empowered with healing powers, Saint Raphael is also believed to be the archangel who healed the multitude of infirm at the pool of Bethesda (John 5:1-4). St. Raphael is the patron saint of travelers. Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! St. Raphael, Pray for Us! + Mikel A. | RosaryNetwork.com, New York

Today's Topics: 1) In this episode we discuss the Archangels. In the first segment, a Catholic definition of an Angel is provided along with the description of the various choirs of the angels. The Archangels stand before God and therefore are uniquely positioned to provide heavenly intercession when we ask for it, 2) In the second segment, the show discusses the Archangel Saint Raphael. The Hebrew translation of Saint Raphael is "God Heals." We look at the scripture passages that reference Saint Raphael and discuss why it is important to invoke his intercession when we need spiritual healing, 3) In the third segment, Archangel Saint Gabriel is the focus. A review of the scripture references to Saint Gabriel is undertaken along with how he is important to the show's location. Saint Gabriel is Hebrew for "God is strong" and provides courage to those he interacts with on earth, 4) In the final segment, a look at Archangel Saint Michael is provided. Again, we look at the instances in scripture Saint Michael is referenced and how as the "Prince of the Heavenly Hosts" he thrusts the dragon, Satan, into hell. He is, therefore, the defender of the Holy Church and thus we invoke his intercession at the end of each Mass. The feast day for Saint Michael is known as Michaelmas and was traditionally a celebration similar to Christmas. Theme: "Salve Regina" performed by Floriani. All rights reserved. Nearly a year into the COVID-19 pandemic that has plagued the entire world, local leaders in education are talking schools reopening in our community. The group discusses with the hosts the plan for going back to in-person learning, the anticipation in doing so, measures to keep students and staff safe, and what protocols are in place should someone within a school test positive for COVID-19. Guests Include: Dan Bridges, Superintendent – Community Unit School District 203 Dr. Adrian Talley, Superintendent – Indian Prairie School District 204 Mavis DeMar, Principal – St. Raphael Catholic School Schools Reopening – A Process and a Positive Outlook The three guests and hosts discuss the reopening as a process, with different grade levels returning to in-person learning at different times. In District 204 for example, Talley says grades pre-kindergarten through second phased into at-school learning in October. Then the district expanded grades three through five, followed shortly this year with middle and high school students. “What we’ve been very fortunate about is that the children and the students are all very energized and excited about what happening,” said Talley. “Very similarly, we are very excited in District 203 in transitioning to our hybrid model,” says Bridges. He goes onto explain that there have been groups of students at most of the schools from the beginning of the school year, “minus some short adaptive pauses” in late fall. “There is a new level of excitement now,” he says describing the eagerness of students. “A tremendous amount of credit goes to our educators for the work that they’ve done to prepare for this. We’ve asked them to do things they’ve never had to do before.” Saint Raphael in contrasts has been open in person since August 19, essentially the start of the school year. Demar attributes that to the thorough training of all teachers in safety measures, placing of six foot markers, and the students wearing masks. “They don’t even notice they have them on. They’re going through their day learning and being challenged. It’s really been amazing.” Remote or In-Person Learning? Deciding Factors With both private and public schools represented, the panel was able to compare and contrast the two and discuss why some schools and school districts were able to move to in-person learning sooner than others. They all agree that when it comes to comparison, it’s “apples to oranges.” “I’m a very small school,” says Demar. “I have one of every grade level. If I had five of every grade level, I’d be in the same way that district 203 and 204 are. Factors that determine schools reopening in a district include: -Size of the District -Class size -Available facilities -Classroom structure and arrangement “It’s really hard to look at and ask that question ‘Why is this district or this private school and you’re not’ because our conditions and what’s available to us are just so different,” says Bridges. “Every superintendent and every private school leader has to make decisions based on what’s best for their circumstance.”

During his post he was responsible for the planning and supervised construction of the railway between Kursk and Odessa. He was promoted to captain in 1862 and stationed in Brest-Litovsk. In Bret-Litovsk he started, taught, and covered all the costs of a Sunday school, accepting anyone interested. In 1863 he supported the Polish insurrection. He resigned from the Russian army and became the rebellion's minister of war for the Vilna region. He only took the commission with the understanding that he would never hand out a death sentence nor execute a prisoner. He was soon arrested by Russian authorities, and in June of 1864 he was condemned to death for his part in the revolt. Fearing they would be creating a political martyr, they commuted his sentence to ten years of forced labour in the Siberian salt mines. Part of his sentence was spent in Irkutsk, where his relics have been moved to sanctify the new cathedral.Upon his release in 1873, he was exiled from his home region in Lithuania. He moved to Paris, France, and worked there as a tutor for three years. In 1877 he finally answered the long-heard call to the religious life, and joined the Carmelite Order at Graz, Austria, taking the name Raphael. He studied theology in Hungary and then joined the Carmelite house in Czama, Poland. He was ordained on January 15, 1882.Saint Raphael worked to restore the Discalced Carmelites to Poland, and for church unity. He founded a convent at Wadowice, Poland in 1889, and worked alongside Blessed Alphonsus Mary Marurek. He was a noted spiritual director for both Catholics and Orthodox. He was considered an enthusiastic parish priest and spent countless hours with his parishioners in the confessional. Saint Raphael died in 1907 and was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1991.Source: Catholic-forum.com Saint of the Day Copyright CNA, Catholic News Agency

Full Text of ReadingsFeast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, archangels Lectionary: 647All podcast readings are produced by the USCCB and are from the Catholic Lectionary, based on the New American Bible and approved for use in the United States _______________________________________The Saint of the day is Sts. Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, ArchangelsThe three Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael are the only angels named in Sacred Scripture and all three have important roles in the history of salvation.Saint Michael is the "Prince of the Heavenly Host," the leader of all the angels. His name is Hebrew for "Who is like God?" and was the battle cry of the good angels against Lucifer and his followers when they rebelled against God. He is mentioned four times in the Bible, in Daniel 10 and 12, in the letter of Jude, and in Revelation.Michael, whose forces cast down Lucifer and the evil spirits into Hell, is invoked for protection against Satan and all evil. Pope Leo XIII, in 1899, having had a prophetic vision of the evil that would be inflicted upon the Church and the world in the 20th century, instituted a prayer asking for Saint Michael's protection to be said at the end of every Mass.Christian tradition recognizes four offices of Saint Michael: (i) to fight against Satan (ii) to rescue the souls of the faithful from the power of the enemy, especially at the hour of death. (iii) to be the champion of God's people, (iv) to call away from earth and bring men's souls to judgment."I am Gabriel, who stand before God." (Luke 1, 19)Saint Gabriel, whose name means "God's strength," is mentioned four times in the Bible. Most significant are Gabriel's two mentions in the New Testament: to announce the birth of John the Baptist to his father Zacharias, and the at Incarnation of the Word in the womb of Mary.Christian tradition suggests that it is he who appeared to St. Joseph and to the shepherds, and also that it was he who "strengthened" Jesus during his agony in the garden of Gethsemane."I am the angel Raphael, one of the seven, who stand before the Lord" (Tob 12:15)Saint Raphael, whose name means "God has healed" because of his healing of Tobias' blindness in the Book of Tobit. Tobit is the only book in which he is mentioned. His office is generally accepted by tradition to be that of healing and acts of mercy.Raphael is also identified with the angel in John 5:1-4 who descended upon the pond and bestowed healing powers upon it so that the first to enter it after it moved would be healed of whatever infirmity he was suffering. [Comment: Servants and Messengers of God] Friends of the Rosary, We celebrate today the feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael Archangels. They all three have important roles in the history of salvation. Their existence is a truth of faith. They are heavenly beings, servants, or messengers of God. They are pure, created spirits, non-corporeal; they have intellect and will, and are immortal. Saint Michael is the “Prince of the Heavenly Host,” the leader of all the good Ángels who fight against Satan and evil spirits. He is the protector of all humanity from the snares of the devil. St. Gabriel was the angel chosen by God to be the messenger of the Annunciation. St Gabriel announced to mankind the mystery of the Incarnation of the Word in the womb of Mary. His greeting to the Virgin, “Hail Mary, full of grace,” is the foundation of Hail Mary's prayer and the Holy's Rosary. Saint Raphael, whose name means “God has healed”, appeared to St. Joseph and to the shepherds, and strengthened Jesus during his agony in the garden of Gethsemane. Dr. Al Cummins is in the house to chat about some of the forbidden arts, as they were known during the Renaissance: a few different forms of divination, including geomancy, which Al is gearing up to teach here very soon. More on that after the chat. And also cartomancy, which both fascinates and excites me, probably in an unhealthy, strange sort of way. Of course, Al is a professional diviner and historian, as well as a poet and a consultant of all things magical. His approach to ritual, divination, and sorcery comes from both a long-term practice and an academic background in the history of early modern magic. And we put that background to the test at the very end of this chat. We had a little fun, and if you’re a patron, there’s something really cool in store for a couple of you here soon. Catholic Word of the Week -benediction Listener Questions -26:30 - I agree with the command to go out and baptize, I am wondering why then as catechumens especially since many of those people have never been baptized do we not allow the sacrament right away? It seems the instruction was to go out and baptize and there would be an urgency to do so if someone wants it. -27:58 – What is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit referenced in Mark 3:28-29? -29:20 – The three archangels, Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, are the only angels named in sacred scripture. I’ve heard them referenced with their archangel title, but have also heard them referenced as saints, Saint Michael, Saint Gabriel and Saint Raphael, is it correct and okay to reference them as saints? -31:03 – Is it hard to view people the same after they go to confession with you? -31:46 – I am amazed that some abortion supporters are angered when shown a model of an unborn baby. These 3-D models fit into the palm of your hand and are anatomically correct representations of what an unborn baby looks like around 12 weeks. One family member dismissed it as anti-abortion propaganda, which made no sense to me. How can I refute them? How is showing them the truth pushing propaganda? -33:58 – I am born and raised Catholic, but I did study the Jehovah Witness faith for two years with a friend. They claimed to be the only real and true faith, but are they really Christian or the true faith? -36:39 – What is the red mass, the white mass and the blue mass? 38:18 – You provide a lot of good book suggestions, what are you currently reading? -42:18 – During Eucharistic adoration, I have heard that there should be at least three people present at all times. What if you are the only one there and you can’t stay until someone else comes in? Is there significance in the number that must be present? ------ RESOURCES: Humanae Vitae Encyclical - http://w2.vatican.va/content/paul-vi/en/encyclicals/documents/hf_p-vi_enc_25071968_humanae-vitae.html ------ Truth in Charity is brought to you in part by Notre Dame Federal Credit Union. ------ Live: www.redeemerradio.com Follow us on social media: www.Facebook.com/RedeemerRadio www.Twitter.com/RedeemerRadio www.Instagram.com/Instagram Submit your question(s): Call / Text (Holy Cross College text line) - 260-436-9598 Online - www.RedeemerRadio.com/AskBishop E-mail - AskBishop@RedeemerRadio.com Subscribe to the Podcast: iTunes | Google Play | SoundCloud | RSS
